Review from Julia W.
Rubbish sells just that--only recycled and re-imagined to make unique jewelry, clothing, housewares and stationery. Another gem on Elm St., the main drag in Three Oaks, Rubbish houses a collection of pieces that are fashioned completely of recycled materials. They carry the now somewhat-ubiquitous seatbelt/bottle cap belts and gum wrapper clutches, but have thrown in a delightful mix of dried fruit jewelry (think a glitter mod-podged slice of blood orange on a fine silver mesh bracelet), candy cuff links, decorative airplanes made from vintage beer cans and journals and stationery composed of vintage postcards and photographs.
Each time I wander in to Rubbish, I'm warmly greeted by the owner, Amelia, and then treated to a feast for the eyes as I scour the store for my new favorite piece. Rubbish is a fab place for funky accessories and great gifts--if you don't mind spending a few extra bucks. It's beyond my reasoning, but apparently recycled materials are a bit pricey.
Edit 7/23/07: The Amazing Amelia passed away earlier this summer after a long, brave fight with cancer. Her creative presence in Three Oaks will be greatly missed!Listed in: Yes, Michigan! The feeling's…
