I frequent Royale of London every other month, and have never experienced a less than satisfying appointment. The professionalism is superb; the staff is cordial and accommodating; the salon is very clean; most importantly, you'll walk away with the coveted look and feel you once desired.
I love George! -
Review from Kate D.
Elias has been cutting and coloring my hair for a little over 2 years now. While I love my haircuts, it's his coloring that keeps me coming back. When I first walked into the salon back in '07, my light brown hair was over-bleached and fried from past highlighting and dying. Elias knew exactly what to do to make my color bright and my hair silky soft.
This past winter I decided to go back to my natural brown and Elias blended highlights and lowlights to return my hair to its real color - something I hadn't seen for probably 5 years. It took him one try to get my color right and it has grown out naturally, with no ugly roots!
The salon is tastefully decorated and the staff is friendly yet professional. The receptionist always gives me a big smile and hello and offers me coffee - unlike most salons where snooty girls with too much makeup tell you to have a seat and wait your turn. There are often children around, visiting politely with salon patrons. One time there was even a well-behaved dog sitting in there while his owner got her hair cut.
My haircut costs about $55 and my partial highlights on very long, thick hair cost about $75. I've sent numerous male friends to Elias for haircuts and they've all come out totally satisfied and grateful for the referral. Male haircuts are $35. I highly recommend Royale of London, specifically Elias, for both haircut and color.Listed in: Pamper me!

Review from Alexis K.
I am a salon experience junkie. I want a nice atmosphere in addition to the obvious (a good haircut).
I went to Eli today, and it was an enjoyable experience. The inside of the salon is well-kept and the entire staff is very friendly. Eli made sure that everything he did to my hair was exactly how I wanted it; as a first customer, I'd rather have too many than too few questions. As a woman in love with her long hair, I'd rather not lose too many inches of hair.
My hair is stunning and not as bulky as it was, thank goodness. I definitely plan on going back.
It cost $55 to cut my rather long, very thick hair. It was well worth it. Bring cash for a tip. -

I used to live directly across from Royale of London so it was only logical that I give them a try. I decided last summer to completely chop all of my hair off into my own version of the "Posh" cut. I am pretty brave when it comes to hair so I just called up and scheduled an appointment with whoever they gave me. It was Sean and I am really glad that is who I ended up getting.
He gave me the cutest cut and even though I have since grown my long hair back, he did an awesome job. He is also a really nice guy and fun to talk to while getting your hair done. I went back again and got color done which I also liked but didn't love just because it wasn't exactly what I done and then I got charged $50 for a trim which annoyed me, so this is the only reason I didn't give Royale 5 stars.
Overall great salon and pretty decent and comparable prices to other salons in the area. If I still lived in that area I would go back and request Sean- especially for cuts. -

Sean has been cutting my husband's hair for 14 years and Sean is a true professional. Husband has super thick, stick straight hair. Husband's hair always is even, well shaped through varied styles over the years, and Sean pays attention to all the details...sideburns, etc.
I have great cuts and color from Sean, always attentive to changes I wanted.
Husband wants me to go to Jenny who does amazing things with color and hair extensions. He saw a girl getting hair extensions for her wedding day last year and was amazed at how thick and natural it looked.
Great atmosphere, friendly, fun salon, excellent products and attention to customers from all. -

I have gone here a few times now to get my hair cut by Jenny. She is SO great at what she does, and even when I don't go in for long periods of time she still remembers exactly how I like my hair cut. She also does a great job with bangs and layering. The rest of the staff is friendly and helpful as well. This is the only place I've found in Chicago that I absolutely have no complaints about.

Wow, I was never given a shot with Sean or the Jenny (whom was always very nice to me, and would never let me walk in and sit down without saying "Hello, luv'). I went here for over a year while I lived in the neighborhood, my cuts were sometimes uneven, it depended on the mood of my stylist. But I kept with it because it was convenient and cheap by salon standards. Then my stylist left, got fired, some hubbub...and I was automatically given to someone else that was not Sean or Jenny. Always low person on the totem pole... my cuts were better, but still not right every single time! This place always seemed slightly shady, or scattered or something just wasn't right. Oh, had I known about Yelp when I was going... but I've moved out of the 'hood, and I've moved on...

Review from Susan F.
I cannot tell you how much I hate getting my haircut, or colored for that matter. It never seems to turn out right, no matter how conservative I tell people to keep it.
Coming to Chicago more than 2 years ago, I have tried 4 salons to perfect my hair color. However, for cutting, I try to go to cheaper places...and very very less frequently.
I have lived in this area for a little under 2 years now and for some reason, never tried Royale out before (and I'm kicking myself for it now!!)
I made an appt the day of and got in an hour later. Eli cut my hair, and it took him no time at all. I told him exactly what I wanted, without even showing a picture. 4 days later, the hair cut is still withholding, no stray hairs, no blunt ugly bangs, no split ends, I really got a great haircut that even I LIKE--as well as others!
Like I said, I hate getting my hair cut, even more than getting it colored, so dependent on my hair cut alone, I might even have to try Royale for my coloring soon, too!
I would def. recommend this place, esp. if you live around the area.Listed in: Ma hood, The good, the bad, the…

I'm kind of surprised to be the first review for Royale of London because this place rocks! I've been going here for 5 years and my husband has been going for about 7 years.
The salon's co-owner, Jenny, is the bomb! I have super straight hair and she is the only one who can actually cut it straight across. She's also really honest with clients about what their hair can and cannot do. I've sent so many of my friends to her and everyone keeps going back. -

Last time I went in for a hair appt, Jenny was out of town so I booked with Eli & he also did a fantastic job. Definitely recommend!

my stylist left the salon i used to go to (b. rose on southport) and i didn't know where to go! based on the reviews here and a friend who has been i decided to check it out.
jenny did an amazing job! i am EXTREMELY picky about my hair and both the cut and color were fantastic.
only tiny complaints were that it was really cold in there and the bathroom was broken. -

Excellent neighborhood salon. It's small with a modern atmosphere, but that's not why I go there. Sean works WONDERS with my hair. I have thick and wavy hair during the summer, but limp hair during the winter. It's been very difficult for me to find a stylist who can work with my hair. Sean even spent extra time explaining to me why my hair acts the way it does (it's all about the cuticle!).

I've gotten a couple great cuts here (from medium to short hair and short maintenance cuts) and have a bunch of friends who go here as well. Jenny, the owner, cuts my hair (and cuts it WELL) in literally 15 minutes, so you can be out of there in a little over 20. Parking in the area sucks, so give yourself plenty of time if you are driving.

Review from hannah k.
My experience was not so stellar. After seeing all the promising reviews on Yelp, I made an appointment. During my initial chat with a very friendly receptionist, I explained to her that I need somebody who is good with color because since moving here, I haven't found anyone great. I was assigned to George. George was completely silent through our appointment, which was awkward in itself. He then turned my roots orange. I have really dark hair, so the brassiness and difference in shade was extremely noticable. When I brought it to his attention, he kept asking what I wanted him to do - if I wanted him to fix it or to get the owner. I became increasingly upset by his inability to take control and make a confident decision. He grabbed the owner, who was incredibly kind, fixed up my roots, and calmed my nerves. When I left there, my color looked great. (The cut was so-so.) However, only 3 days later, whatever magical fixing potion had been applied to my head was already faded and I was left again with orange brassy roots.

Review from jenny m.
My friend recommended this place and I've been going back ever since. I started out with a stylist who has since left and started going to Jenny only about a year ago. I love her. She is fantastic. The first cut she did for me was to chop off my hair for Locks of Love. I'm 30 and in all my life I've had short hair only twice - once when I was like 4 and don't remember. And once in college and I hated it. I actually cried after they cut it off and regreted doing it instantly. So chopping my hair is a big deal to me and I was really nervous to do it but I had heard good things about Jenny so I put my trust in her. And I did not regret it! She cut off 10 inches but somehow it didn't feel short to me. The cut was really cute and I didn't even cry afterward! I also got color at the same time. I decided to go all out and go dark and she did an amazing job with the color. I got so many compliments for weeks afterward. I've since gone back for cuts & color and always leave happy. I'm tellin ya - if you give Jenny an idea of what you want, she will nail it and give you a cut or color that is exactly what you were looking for.

Eli is my man! What a great place to get a haircut and color. The atmosphere is not pretentious, and the service is first class. Even my ever so picky Mother hasn't found fault with the cut, and she actually complimented the color. Wow, I can't ask for anything better than that.
