Restaurant attached to the Best Western hotel. Quaint 70's style, with great service and ok food.
Negative: after dinner, I got a serious stomachache. Not sure if it was the Brussels sprouts/bacon or the tuna. Food poisoning was not on my agenda for the evening and I didn't appreciate it...Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 1885291327Nov 30, 2017
Hadn't been here in the 3 years since it's been remodeled. It is way more aesthetically pleasing now. The food is great and they didn't mind my low carb requests. I got two scrambled REAL eggs and 3 perfectly fried bacon strips. The teenager got a yogurt fruit bowl and the granola was served on the side...she has no real complaints other than her usual nagging. Lol. My a la carte selections were a $1 each- def not bad & the granola, yogurt & fruit bowl was just $5. We ended up taking the yogurt Bowl to go and were provided a sturdy little plastic container with a lid and plastic ware without request.
So you can visualize the restaurant a little bit better you walk in, seat yourself, you can choose from booths, tables, or sitting at the bar. We chose the bar cuz I had a pretty fancy marblesque top. The color scheme is pretty awesome ranges from bright yellow, pale yellow, to tan. It sounds kind of weird but it goes extremely well. One of the cooks in the back explained that it must have been three years since I've been there because I was taking pictures and he wondered what I was doing. I told him I hadn't been there since the remodel. He explained everything that had been updated including the bar we were sitting at and the bathroom right next door. It's pretty brand-spanking-new from the floors to the ceiling. Had great but simple decor I wish I could take it home LOL.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

We are so glad that you had the opportunity to stop back and see us again! Yes, the renovation has been wonderful and while we stuck to a mid-century modern diner theme - it is bright, clean and fresh. We also appreciate you acknowledging the fresh quality of our food as we cut our own meats, make our own sauces, buy locally sourced produce AND use fresh local eggs. We hope to see you again soon!

Jumbo wings with a dragoon ipa beer and a steak dinner with a full moon was our dinner. Very good food here and excellent customer service. They guys working are really down to earth people. The food was very flavorful and very well priced. If you are staying the Best Western you will get some coupons to use here. They also have a bar built in to the restaurant. Great place to grab some good food.

This is our go to place for karaoke for the last 4 years
We have tried other places, but always end up leaving them to come here.
The crowd is always great and I've always felt comfortable singing.
The drink specials are always great and they allow me to experience something new.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

When trying to elevate your restaurant, it's vital that you communicate your vision to the line. I fear that the chef at this hotel-based eatery has failed to get the standards for execution across. My strip steak, ordered medium-rare came out medium-well and the sauteed Brussels sprouts were awash in cheap-tasting maple syrup water and way too much bacon. As for my wife's grilled romaine salad, that had to be sent back to be grilled. At least the chef is trying and that's better than a lot of places.

Hi Kenneth. Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We appreciate the feedback and apologize that your dinner was not to your liking. I hope that if you're staying here again, that you'll give us another chance to provide you with the quality of food that I know we can.

Cozy lounge, good drinks & very cool entertainment some nights.
My friends raved about the burgers so I ordered one. My medium burger was rare inside & the avocado & bacon we're forgotten. Disappointed!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 19, 2014
Unfortunately the restaurant is not near any attractions/businesses so it was never busy during the 2 meals i had there. I guess the majority of customers are from the nearby hotel which is a shame. People are missing out.
Good food at good prices and very friendly and efficient service.
Life is not fair knowing I've had worse food & service at more popular locations at higher prices, there is no God.
Besides the regular menu items, they also make the efforts to have daily specials.
They're keeping it realHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Business owner information

The most lively Karaoke spot tonight! Not only can you sing but if you sing poorly, everyone is super supportive. What a nice place to grab a drink, relax, casual sing, and comfortably make a fool of yourself! No worries in sight here. Beer is cold and the mic is hot. Come on down, join the fun.

We've been to the Restaurant at Royal Sun a few times since the last review, and had great service and food each time, but this visit seemed different. Dinner was certainly more expensive than previous, $52 before the tip. The Menu is more limited, covering the basics, done pretty well, albeit slowly, compared to other restaurants.
What was different, was the absence of other customers. We arrived at 5:30 pm on a rainy Wednesday night and were out the door at 6:45 pm. No one else came in while we were there.
The food was good. 7 Spicy, Buffalo bone-in wings to start ($8?). We waited about 20 minutes for those. Lips on fire, spicy sauce.
A sizable dinner salad came with my friend's Tuna Steak, Rice Pilaf and Kale Mixture ($18). He said it was good, but would have liked the tuna more rare. Same with the Half-Pound "My Burger" with Bacon and Avocado at additional cost ($10+$1.50). The Restaurant was out of avocados, but the offer for the Avocado Crema was offered and accepted. Delicious, but not as healthy. Heck, it was like a lost weekend anyway, so I didn't mind. The Fries were different and REALLY good! I ate everything including most of the wings.
We ordered the Limoncello($8?) from a Dessert Menu of 4 items, and even that seemed perhaps a smaller portion than before, but pretty good. Tea and Milk were $4 total. No Wine List, but their House Wines, Cocktails and Beers were available.
The Restaurant looks very updated (Friend says "like a shiny, new, clean Student Union"), and our service was excellent, so we'll return periodically because its location is also very near to our house and their Burger is excellent. Friend said he should have ordered the Burger:(.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Apr 25, 2015Previous reviewWe stopped in last night for dinner on the spur of the moment after not having eaten here for at least a year and came away impressed and really happily full. We had stopped coming not because the food or service was unsatisfactory, but because of our perceived rapid employee turnover rate. We just weren't sure of who or what we'd be in for each time we went.
Our server, Nate, welcomed us BACK which shocked and amused us because we had discussed before walking in the door, how we probably wouldn't know any of the servers. He made liars out of us, so there. The cooks behind the counter were new (to us), but hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
The menu was slightly different, with a few surprising (good, interesting) variations. The specials were Tuna Steak, Carnivore Burger (bacon-stuffed) and the Chicken Pesto Sandwich.
Partner had the tuna which was sesame encrusted with a sweet chili-hollandaise sauce. Great presentation and even better flavor ( I was permitted a SMALL taste). I had the Steak Diane (ribeye with a shallot, wine, mushrooms sauce). My steak was prepared medium rare, less tender than I was used to, but having never had steak this way (I'd heard of it and always wanted to try it), I'm pretty sure that the preparation was spot on. This ribeye version isn't as thick as I'm used to, but it was very tasty, nonetheless. I would definitely order this again after trying a couple of other entrees that looked interesting (I.e. Swordfish Scampi).
The entrees came with soup or salad. Partner had salad (enormous and fresh), and I had the SOD, butternut squash (pretty good). One side note: I was very hungry, so for my choice of two sides, I chose onion rings. They were GIGANTIC, not homemade, but fried perfectly with good flavor.
The restaurant wasn't full (Thursday night around 7 pm), but there were more diners than the previous times we'd eaten there. I don't know if they were hotel guests or locals, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were locals who realized a good find when they saw it.
Our tab was $38 (before tip) for the food and one glass of Cabernet. I definitely recommend this unassuming hotel restaurant based on our visit. At a Best Western? Who'd a thunk? - Outrigger P.Long Beach, CA1114287Mar 19, 2018
This is a lovely little hotel restaurant that I enjoy eating at every time I stay at the best Western Royal Sun. The stuff is very cheerful and pleasant. Food is actually quite good and I've had dinner there many times, including homemade soups, fresh salads, and the surprisingly sophisticated Steak Diane.
Guests of the hotel get special coupons for two-for-one drinks and free breakfast which makes it extra nice. Breakfasts are hearty and all cooked to order.
For a little unpretentious local spot with positive vibes and good home cooking, this is it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
