Yall are scaring me - for real dogg.
Ok, I am gonna preface this by saying I stayed at the Royal Palm back in 2007. It was a fantastic experience for me since a) it was a company trip and b) I was asked to make one presentation and then spent the rest of the time on the beach. Or at the hot tub. Or at the bars with the Spring Breakers. That was wild.
Now I hear all these horror stories, and I called the hotel only to find out the Royal Palm (the front desk guy said all the beach hotels) had to get rid of their hot tubs. Man, that sucks, especially since I am going back there next month.
I will have an update after I visit, but here is what I've learned so far.
- Pay extra for the Tower room or suite, it's worth it.
- All the complaints apparently have driven the prices down, it's cheaper now than it was when I stayed there two years ago.
- Valet ain't cheap in Atlanta, why $40 seems insane at South Beach is beyond me. Valet say simply, I really don't want to take the time and find a cheap spot and haul my ass back to the hotel. Pay for the convenience.
- Yes, resort fees suck, but if you go to the beach at all, it's worth it. Besides, the folks without beach access hotels have to walk all the way to the street entrance, carrying their chairs and umbrellas and coolers, get over it. You want no resort fees, stay at a Courtyard.
- The dirtiness stuff is unacceptable. Ugh. Still, it goes back to my first point, pay for the new rooms.
I hope this is a better experience than my last in 2007, especially since this time it's on my dime.

I went here for a weekend getaway with close ones to celebrate my cousins birthday it was fun!
The pool is great and spacey the one upstairs is quite chilly so stay in the sun
the bar is overpriced but then again it is south beach
WARNING the ATM by the elevator has a fee of $3 if I can recall after a couple of shots of cuervo and agua ardiente who knows really
but overall the staff was great, I hated that we always had a problem with our card keys and had to hit the front desk to complain,
I love the blow dryers provided in the bathrooms I wanted to take it home with me it blow dried my bangs to perfection
comfy mattresses can't complain!
location right on the beach so a plus for that

The hotel is beautiful, the renovations have been complete and worth every penny. There are two buildings or 'towers' to the hotel, it can be a tad confusing inside but once you figure it out its no bigge.
The hotel displays Brito prints throughout which is nice since he is the epitomy of Miami. Whether you like his art or not you have to admit he IS Miami! Happy, fun and bright.
The rooms are gorgeous, decor modern and no expense was spared. They are comfortable. Location couldn't be better, it is within walking distance of Lincoln, Espanola and Ocean Dr.
Service 5 star. Its not cheap, but nothing is in SoBe.

We had the opportunity to check out this place during my friend's wedding. They had a couple of suites here - spacious, clean, nice minimalistic decor, great views.
The location is unbeatable, within walking distance to Lincoln Road or Ocean Drive or a short cab ride away from most clubs in SoBe -
The beach is pretty cool as well... it's South Beach after all.
We liked the pool too, the music was good without being too ghetto - and they were running a pretty good pool BBQ as well.
All in all - the place gets a pretty good mark in my book.

The reviews for this place are so mixed so I kind of took a chance by staying here but I'm pleased to say that everything went really well!
The staff was super nice and the location is perfect. The room could have been a bit larger but it's Miami...who the hell is in their room anyway??
We had a balcony with a view of the ocean. It was really gorgeous to see first thing in the morning. I would absolutely stay here again. It was clean and the staff was nice.
Also, the free beach umbrellas and chairs were the best part. I mean who wouldn't enjoy lounging at their private beach and having servants (not really) bring you pina coladas while you lounge in the shade of your complimentary chair and umbrella. Ahh...that's the life. :-)

Two words... MINI BAR! as in - get one in the rooms.
Might be a good idea to mix in a tv set from the past 5 years as well.
Room was extremely spartan, but not in a super modern way, more in a cheap - not updated way.
Housekeeping came in a made the bed, but didn't clean anything else up / pick up the room like they might.
Interweb didn't work.
$19 bucks just to "stay there" once you've already arrived.
Here is the good
Excellent location. Its right on the beach. 1 star. I had a room with a view of the water 1 star...
Probably the perfect budget place to stay on the beach if you are fresh out of college/on spring break/cramming 5 hoochies into one hotel room. Otherwise you will just spend most of your time wondering longingly about the rooms next door at the Loews who's pool DOMINATES the palms.
pretty downhill from there. Staying on the company dime, but seemed like an alright price at $230/night for southbeach...
I'd recommend hiring some folks to help you park your car, help take your bags out of your car when you arrive, and staff up the front desk so there is not just one person there and a line of 12 people waiting to check in.
Bar closes early. No way to grab a last bru on your way to bed, and no way to refrigerate one in your room that you bought yourself due to a lack of said mini bar.
Not a horrible spot - but I think you get what you pay for, and you are still getting ripped off. Stay at the Mayfair in Coconut Grove and just drive in to SoBe.

-order breakfast room service which was prompt

For those of you who don't know what wet towel smell is it the nastiest stench next to chao dofu (stinky tofu). Imagine mildew being baked in a steamy bathroom for years and this is what you have.
The bottom of the left corner of our shower curtain was black and reeked so bad we had to spray our curtain with body spray each day to mask up the smell. The tub was designed in the poorest manner with half the tub hidden behind a wall, which caused problems with water leaking onto the floor through a gap. The shower clogged and the water pressure was horrible, so they sent an engineer to fix this. They replaced the shower head, but the shower was still clogged even after they "fixed" it.
We stayed a total of 5 nights here and my first strike happened right after I checked in to find their wireless internet was shoddy. I asked for a cord and it never came, so half an hour later on my way out, I got one from the front desk.
Housekeeping was extremely rude with a chip on their shoulders. We did not get fresh towels each day even though they took our old ones, so we needed to call the front desk for new towels. There were 4 of us staying in the room, but the front desk said they would only be able to provide 2 towels when I asked for four. After bargaining, they sent up 3! They also had no common sense with toilet paper. Our rolls were clearing 3/4 of the way through and they did not leave backup toilet paper for us to use, so of course we needed to call the front desk once again.
Their ice machines are all broken except for the one by the pool. When we asked for them to bring us ice, they said it would be 30 minutes! Are you kidding me? This is unacceptable! Unfortunately housekeeping's quarters were right next door to us and they would slam their doors after each in and out with no regard to others staying on the floor. The walls are paper thin here, so you hear everything. We had asked them to stop more than two times and it kept happening. One of the girls we stayed with and even conveyed this in Spanish and they were still doing this.
Only one of the windows in the room actually opened up and we had to prop it up with a water bottle. We were SOL in the bathroom as there was a window, but it didn't open.
What pissed me off the most were the people who would place towels on the poolside chairs really early in the morning and come back hours later to claim their spots. This is so unfair!
Beware of the additional $19/day they charge you on top of your hotel room for pool amenities and internet. You cannot waive this fee.
Initially Royal Palm had two stars, but the more I wrote this review, the more I hated it. One star it is for its location and zero stars for all the negative aspects of this hotel.
I would suggest staying at a hostel in the slum than here.

This place is alright. I want to give this place one more star but i dont =P We booked the place on http://hotel.com however we had to pay extra $20 / day for amenities such as beach towels, umbrella, and wutever else...It's cool, hotel's a hotel. You dont really stay in doors all that much when you're on the beach, just a place to sleep.
Location is perfect, it's right in between Ocean Dr. and Lincoln Rd. and its on the beach. It is priced just right for someone who just got out of college like me.
Everything else is very "meh.." though. If you stay here be sure to ask for either a room in their new tower, or a room with a balcony.
Overall it was just right for what I needed, a relatively cheap place to stay right in the middle of everything in South Beach.
Now I realize we attempted to stay there during "spring break" but it was horrid. I say attempted because after about an hour we checked out. I suppose this is a good place to stay if you are the partying type but we are not, by any means. I would describe it as just a gross club with a few beds in it. The pool was unusable because it was completely packed with drunks and smokers all hitting on each other. For the little bit of time we were there we knew we wouldn't get a minute of sleep because of the constant noise in the hallway (and I can only imagine it would get worse with the more drunk the people in the hotel got). It also took them about 45 minutes to check us in because they had their entire staff looking for some drunk guys ID that he lost (I highly doubt their whole staff was needed for that). And when we were checking out the entire back part of the lobby had become a club and my boyfriend was fairly certain that the owner of the hotel (who came out when we told them we refused to stay there) was on some sort of drugs. And the 3 other people in the elevator with us were completely drunk at 4 in the afternoon.
it was horrible.
if your a partier then go right ahead, anyone else should steer clear

Just a quick summery for you boys and girls:
Two best thing about this hotel are.
A.The temperature inside the hotel is so low on the hot summer days, that the windows fill up with condensation. This give the hotel a really "chill" while keeping you "Cool" at the same time (Gosh that was lame)
B. Their hotel pool stays open for 24 hours. So if you get back from the clubs and whatnot, you can get in your skivvies and take a dip. Drinks are allowed at the pool.
C.Location, Location, Location. Right in the heart of everything.
And the bad.
A.The pool is quite skeptical, as you can not see your feet looking down in the water. Either due to over chlorination, which I think (Hope) is the case, or due to overuse.
B.Its not exactly a pool to stay at if you have young kids or if you are an old couple looking for quite time. It is more of a adult spring break type pool.
C.Rooms are Small, like dorm room quads.
Ok Bye.

I stayed here during a business trip at the height of spring break. I felt like I was back in college again. =) Most of the hotels in South Beach were booked but I was able to get a room at this hotel.
Scott M. is right on the money about the location. It's conveniently located just steps away from Ocean Drive, which is the heart of South Beach.
The motif here is art deco. I had a suite - more than enough room for me. Bed was comfy and it was nice waking up to a view of the ocean. It was just a shame that Art couldn't join me on this trip! You can't beat the value at this hotel. I would definitely stay here again.

My buddies and I just got back from a Bachelor party weekend in South Beach and we stayed at the Royal Palm.
The best thing about this hotel is the location. The hotel is in the center of everything on Collins Ave. and has a fantastic beach access. The lobby was also very nice, although the hotel bar was waaaay too small.
What this hotel has in location and convenience, it lacks in luxury. The rooms were not as nice as they appeared on the website. For the prices they charge, everything should have been much nicer.
I don't think I would stay here again, because there are much nicer hotels in South Beach (even if a little more expensive). If you are looking for a great location and "o.k." accommodations, then this is the place for you.

Great location, right on the beach! The rooms are standard, nothing special- they haven't upgraded their old school TVs yet, but who really comes to stay in their hotel rooms when in Miami? The hotel service could've been better- the housekeeper kept knocking at our door while we were still asleep (there are no "Do Not Disturb" signs to hang on the door) and kept replacing our handsoap but not our towels, and the concierge charged me $1 to mail a postcard (I should've brought my own .42 stamp! but whatever..). Our toilet kept flushing on its own every now and then- annoying but we got used to it after 2 nights. Otherwise, we generally enjoyed our stay since we were only here to sleep and shower. It's walking distance to everything (food, shops, clubs/bars, etc.) and did I mention, it's right on the beach?

Location is perfect! but the decor is better in the lobby than in the actual rooms. Not very impressive for the price. I would stay there again only if I got a deal never for full price.
Me and some friends stayed at the Royal Palm for a Bachelor Party. We got a great deal on the stay from Orbitz.
The location is key. Ocean Drive is a very short walk from the hotel; as well as other notable clubs and restaurants.
The hotel is beautiful really and the two pools are always open. Also, the beach is easily accessible from the hotel. You just need to exit via the poolside area and walk across the beach walkway.
The bar area was smallish but plush. The staff was helpful. The rooms are spacious and the beds are way comfortable. The only complaint is that the rugs in the hallways seem to be older and very dirty.
Overall a great place to stay. Score: 3.5-4.0

Good location and pretty reasonable for South Beach. It's a nice hotel right on the beach. There's also a few pools and a lobby bar. I'd def stay here again.

Here's the lowdown on the Royal Palm-
If you're on a budget, looking to have easy access to the best of South Beach ( Ocean Drive, Lincoln Rd, Clubs/bars on Wash Ave and of course, the beach), this is a great steal- not the poshest ( is that even a word!?) of hotels but for the price and the ability to squeeze 5 girls comfortably into a 1 bedroom suite looking over the pool- you can't go wrong. You definately get what you pay for here. The staff can be rude most of the time. It takes 5 phone calls to housekeeping for them to bring you towels, toilet paper or other necessities, or to remove the trash that has been sitting outside your room since the day before! The manager may very well tell you that the hotel does not provide comforters because it's miami and it's hot ( yet friends of ours in another room had a down comforter on their bed upon arrival) but aside from all this, if you're laid back, looking to spend more time and money outside of the hotel at the beach, shops and hotspots, then this place can be for you!

We got a really really good deal on the Royal Palm via Priceline for our last trip to Miami and it was such a treat. Besides the awesomeness of the location - near Lincoln Rd, no need even for a car to get around for a few days - it was just a great place to stay. We are used to just staying in regular hotels and this was a step up - gorgeous entry way, two pools (the selling point for me!), and a view of the beach, with direct access to the water. If I could get the same price, I would definitely go back. I HEART SOUTH BEACH!!
Probably can't go wrong with any hotels in this area especially since its a short walk to the beach and ocean drive but the Royal Palm almost treated us like royalty. Hotel features and a couple of pool area, compact bar in the lobby, an ok fitness center, and great customer service. We enjoyed our stay our here and would not mind staying here again when I comeback to South Beach.
