When I was first married, we lived in Worcester.  We would trekk out to Millbury just to get the Royal House of Pizza pizza.  It was that good.  When we moved to Millbury, we were lucky enough to live down the street from Royal.  Every Friday night would be pizza and movie night with the boys.  If I couldn't get my onion pizza with double onion added to it...well it just wasn't a Friday family night!

Owned and operated by a family back then was what made it so special.  Over the years the older owner retired and the boys took over.  The pizzas were good but the Dad is what made the pizzas awesome.  It's been years for me since I've experienced Royal and I do miss it.  I will make it a point to get a pizza soon and update my review.

Having grown up near this local pizza place, I've had more pizzas and sandwiches than I can remember.  However, after leaving my small town and broadening my pizza-horizons, I realize their pizza was just okay.

The crust was fairly bland tasting, though the texture under the sauce and cheese was great.  The crust around the edge of the pizza was almost always overcooked and extraordinarily crunchy to the point that I once cut the roof of my mouth on a sharp piece of it (being injured by bread doesn't reflect well on me, does it?).  Their cheese and sauce was pretty standard fare, with the cheese being extra stretchy.  Their onion or mushroom pizzas are among their best, though my favorite was always the extra cheese pizza.  The sandwiches were decent as well, my favorite being a toasted Italian sub with extra oil.

The staff was always friendly.  In all my years going there, they never screwed up an order.

All in all, it's a fairly run-of-the-mill local pizza joint with decent prices and decent food.  If you love a really crunchy pizza crust, however, this place will not disappoint.
