Review from Chad L.
Chicago Park, CA
I really like coming here. The price is good, the people are friendly. They can accommodate whatever sized party I have quickly. I would give it three stars if my expectations were higher, but this place is what it makes itself out to be.
Somebody decorated this place and bought the furniture in about the turn of the 198o's, but it's clean.
Let's talk sushi, because there is a lot of comment by reviewers here so far. Here is the question: would you ever stoop to eating sushi from a supermarket? A hard boiled egg sandwich at a gas station? "Chicken Surprise casserole" at a Nebraska truck stop? If you said No to all of the above, this place probably isn't where you would want to eat sushi. You definitely will not be able to brag about it to your friends.
However, some of us don't mind a bit of dubious adventure if the food is appropriate to the setting in one's life at the moment. If my parents would have taken me to such a place as a kid (and they did), it would be a great culinary adventure, and the sushi would have opened up fresh horizons.
This is a great place to take your family. Your kids will love the approachable Chinese food, and the dessert will make it special for them. Your crotchety old cheapskate parents or grand parents won't think you are getting all hoity-toity on them for taking them to someplace too fancy-schmantsy. Your wife will appreciate your frugality.
And you will enjoy the sushi. You won't fool yourself into thinking they landed the Yellowtail that morning, iced it down and flew it in so that it could be fresh on your plate by evening. You won't imagine the crab to be fresh dungeness trucked in that morning from the coast. The salmon isn't wild, line caught sockeye, but you should have known that anyway. What is it, like, $8 a plate? You can tell these guys aren't paying much attention to whether or not they are cutting with the grain of the fish, heck, it looks like they went to town with a serrated edged knife bought second hand from a seventies Sizzler.
It is good though, the tobiko is tasty, the rolls are put together well. The salmon slabs do look a bit scary, like they decided to just give up instead of lay pieces delicately onto balls of rice. You can have some oonagi, some octopus, some California rolls. Drown it in Wasabi and soy sauce, eat a bit more pickled ginger, and wash it down with some hot sake. I know you sushi purists are cringing, as some part of me is also.
But enjoy the dirty pleasure. I remember eating 'sugar sandwiches' on white bread when I was a kid. Now THERE's a dirty pleasure. Sometimes you just have to enjoy where you are at in life and love it for it's own sake. -

Decent for a Chinese buffet. Pot stickers were good. Egg rolls left much to be desired. All in all, decent meal, but I've definately had MUCH better. Quality could be much better. They also served sushi, but I never tried it... I'm very picky about the sushi I eat and if it looks like it's been sitting out for a while, I wont touch it.
Staff is friendly but speak broken english. Can be hard to understand if you're not used to the accent.
Definately try it. -

Excellent Chinese and oriental (esp. sushi) food in buffet setting.
Also serves fish (eg, crab legs, clams) and American side dishes.
All in a nice inner and outer setting even for a buffet !
Nicely staffed for come as you are comfort. -

This place is rIdiCUUULOUSSS!!!
~Noontime on a sunny Thursday:
99% of the customers were above 70 years of age, the place was quite packed, and I needed SUSHI! I had read in an earlier review that they had a mediocre selection of sushi. However, I beg to disagree. I probably ate about 3 rolls worth of Cali, Super-ish Cali (cali+ avo & salmon on top), roe Cali...the list goes on. Had some orange chicken. Meh. Not into greasy stuff. Their Chinese selection, oddly enough, was less appetizing to me than the sushi/seafood and desserts.
Lunch buffet comes up to $8.15. $10 out the door with a generous tip (because, c'mon, I know these old folks aren't tipping for the great service!)
Great place to go if you want to overdoes on sushi, clog your arteries with greasy Chinese, or succumb to a sugar coma.
P.S.... drinking the entire pot of tea will make everything go down easier :) -

I have dreams about Royal Dragon II. I miss living in Grass Valley for many reasons...but, this is a big one.
Very clean, good variety, cheap cheap cheap for lunch.
I love that they are super attentive when clearing plates and refilling drinks.
Dessert is either pudding, jello, fruit, sherbet or chocolate/vanilla ice cream.
Love their chow mien and, like James mentioned, the crab puffs are AWESOME.Listed in: Favorite Food Spots

Royal Dragon rocks my world.
Yes, there's a new Chinese buffet in town...it's over by Raley's...and yes it's nicely decorated and they have some good food...
BUT...
I'm still loyal to Royal Dragon. NOBODY has brandy-fried chicken like they do. NOBODY has triangular cream-cheese puffs like they do.
I love this place. -

Point Reyes Station, CA
Excellent Chinese Buffet.
Loses one point for a combination of usually rude and disgusting customers playing around with food and also the fact that these usual customers also pass gas openly... Also, partially loses that point for being chinese buffet, instead of traditional sit-down. -

It's pretty good food and it's gotten better over the years. The crab cream cheese puffs are by far the best anywhere! I usually load my plate up with those fried goodies. I also like the self scoop ice cream. I would stay away from the sushi though. I'm not a fan of that.... It's usually pretty gross tasting but so is the story of all sushi that comes from a buffet. The staff are all really friendly though and one guy even remembers my name! I would go here before going to Lin Q down the road.
I would give it a 3.5 if i could! -

I gave this place 5 stars because they are the best BUFFET chinese food in the area. I have been going here since they opened, and they have even expanded since then. They have sushi, salad bar and desserts as well. I love the chinese food and it is always fresh when I go there. They also have a GREAT fried chicken that is very flavorful. This is my great grandmothers favorite place to go for lunch. The waiters are effecient and never leave a finished plate on the table for more than 30 seconds. The chinese food is great, better than the other chinese buffet next to Raley's by far in my opinion.

Royal Dragon is the place to go if you have a hankering for dimly lit, greasy buffet Chinese food at below cost prices. Otherwise, steer clear! I'm sure you won't get sick off any of this food but I found the chicken too grisly and the beef too chewy and fatty for any sort of good digestion to follow. The veggie dishes excel because they're in a lighter sauce and not over cooked. Hey, I guess the price is right for what it is but I'll still take my sushi from a real sushi place and my Chinese from Fred's.

I used to really like this place, but the food just didn't seem so fresh this last time I went.
The staff is very nice though. -

Grass Valley, CA
This place is awesome. They easily best all of the buffets I've tried in the Sacramento area. The food is hot. It is plentiful, and there is a nice variety that changes. I like a little sushi, a mess of veggies, and some meat.
Ok, their Curry Chicken isn't the best, but you don't expect curry at a chinese to be as good as an Indian place.
I'm not a dessert fan, but it's hard not to like a bit of jello and rainbow sherb.
Yo - the staff is great. They greet you and I often see long time customers greeted by name and a bit of "how's the kids" banter. -

Grass Valley, CA
We eat here at least once a week. We seriously never go anywhere else. The food is good, resonably priced and the service is friendly. A few of the staff know us by name and they have always been very nice to us. They have the best Brandy Fried chicken ANYWHERE and their crab meat puffs and walnut shrimp is the best!!! I would go here before ever going to Lin Q.

I come here about 2 to 3 times per month for a quick and cheap lunch. I order off of the menu as one of their servings off the menu which includes soup, egg roll, crabpuff , water, tea and the main dish is more than enough for lunch and cheaper than the buffet. Very consistent food with an occasional hiccup once every few months. Staff is attentive and if you are a regular they get to know exactly what you want before you even sit down. Have never been for dinner, but a great place for an inexpensive chinese lunch for about $6.00
