Hmmm what to say about this? Both the other reviews are dead on.  Here's my take.  If you don't have small children, or a relative participating in the parade, stay away, far away. You'll be bored to tears.

If on the other hand, you have a small child who likes horses, you won't find another parade where you can get closer to them than this one.  You will probably still be bored to tears, but your kid will be thrilled.  I can't decide if I'm going to tell my kids about it this year or not....

I give it 2 stars, only cause of the kids.

I spent the better half of the day on a walking adventure to this annual parade. There were horses (lots of them), clowns, and tons of businesses that catered to kid's activities. My son was in awe (it's always great to find entertainment that captures his imagination and spirit). I love Castro Valley because they always have awesome family-orientated events (because they are unincorporated and thus can afford such). While this great mother's day/Cinco de Mayo event only happens once a year, I encourage anyone that has young children to definitely attend!

Another wretched event that brings out the embarrassing factors of being a Castro Valley resident.  I've taken to leaving town the weekend of this parade, just to avoid the ignorant, tabaccy-chewin' folks that block traffic, overpopulate downtown with their screaming misbehaved children, and make the weekend a living hell for us fun loving folks.  If you want to see bad stereotypes, sadly that's the only recommendation I can make for this event.
