You take her to Joshua Tree for a weekend of climbing--she has never gone. The first day is great and that picnic lunch of roasted vegetable muffalattas you crafted in your kitchen was perfect. The weekend is going to be a dream. Then, she has a fall. Nothing serious but a bit frightened and an abrasion that draws blood. You get to show your wilderness medicine training and take care of her--she is pleased and you both return to the rock.
The plan is to camp out for the night under the stars (you brought a tent as well). The day is beautiful, but at 5:00 PM the skies go black, the winds pick-up and a deluge of water illuminated by the cracking of lightning. Her eyes, big as saucers and this is it. Your next action will decide the future. She is hot--the find of a lifetime and you cannot let her get away.
Quickly you motion to the car. She gets in and you gather the last of the gear. Without letting her in on your state of panic, you smile and say you have an idea. Driving down the road, cell service returns and you dial Google 411. Soon you are talking to the Rougheley Manor--"The Farmhouse" is available and you take it. 20 minutes later you drive down the dirt road and park under the protection of the palm oasis and run in to get the keys. You are a hero.

Nice place to rest when visiting Joshua tree. Only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that other lodging in 29palms is really cheap (esp. on Hotwire or Priceline), so to me staying here again isn't a no-brainer.
But, if you do want a nice place to stay and are willing to spend a bit extra, you will like this place.
Classy service and great food. The banana cream pie is phenomenal.
A diamond in the rough known as 29 Palms.
Rooms are beautiful and comfortable. Beautiful NE style stone manor in the middle of the desert.
Highly recommended to everyone, just don't eat all the pie b/c I want some more.

We were looking for a place to stay that was near the Joshua Tree national park entrance. We turned to trip adviser and couldn't believe the high marks this place got. A place with that many great reviews has got to be worth visiting. We called 2 nights before we needed the place and booked a lovely stand alone room with powerful air conditioning that gave us all of the comforts of home. The inn keepers were attentive and helpful in picking places to eat and in pointing out what not to miss in the park itself. The breakfast was the best we had experienced on our long southwest road-trip and we stayed in a lot of B&Bs.
After visiting the park at sunset and having a nice picnic, we returned to the Manor for cookies by the pool and was treated to a flying show by the resident bat diving around the pool feasting on bugs.
In the AM we had a lovely breakfast (check out that picture) next to the tree that was home to some baby owls. Overall an exquisite experience and a wonderful way to end our road-trip.

The Roughley Manor could not be more perfect. Beautiful, huge rooms that were CLEAN. Huge, delicious breakfast in the main house. And owls living in the trees! This is the best place to stay in Twentynine Palms.
A delightful Bed & Breakfast tucked away in the Mojave Desert. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for that personal, friendly retreat. With an interesting history and an abundance of wildlife (including a couple of Grey Horned Owls) Roughley Manor is perfect! Jan and Gary were wonderful hosts and very welcoming with plenty of stories to tell. This was a beautiful place to spend the romantic Valentine's weekend my boyfriend planned and the breakfast was amazing!
I recently spent a weekend at Joshua Tree National Park and stayed at the Roughley Manor - a Bed and Breakfast in Twentynine Palms. It was awesome! I was there with three other friends and we stayed in a suite plus the "overflow" room inside the main house. The grounds and the suites are beautiful and kept very well; they are clean and comfortable. The owners are extremely sweet and welcoming. The food is great too: they serve cookies and tea in the evening and a divine breakfast in the morning. Another plus it that it's a very short drive to the Twentynine Palms entrance of Joshua Tree. We only had one issue: locating a good pizza place! They recommended a local joint (not great), but in fact there was a Papa John's just down the street!
