These guys saved my life!
Last friday I gave up on my laptop having no fan and I tried to get it serviced at Tekserve because the weather was getting hotter and FCP was just lagging. After wasting 3 days at Tekserve they said that my laptop wasn't serviceable because A. I didn't have a fan in here B. I had no bracket for a fan. C. The computer in their words "had some poor repair work done". A customer overheard my displeasure and referred me to Rossmann Repair Group.
After a diagnostic Steve told me I was missing a connector on my Logic Board (whoops). So instead of telling me he had to replace the whole thing (which I was worried about but prepared to pay for it) he told me he can solder it and clean my logic board for about 100 or so. I told him DO IT.
Even though I did call like 4 times checking up on my repair (i had an editing deadline to meet) they were patient with me and I got it back in about 2 days. Not only did the repair save my life but they decided to bring my laptop in better shape by adding some missing screws from the bottom of the case. Even though that's a cheap fix it wow'd me in the customer service.
While I like to do repairs myself. My bad work in the past caused this headache. So whenever I feel like not doing a repair I will come back because they were prompt and my laptop is back to normal.

Usually would have been faster, but had to take my first day off since March or else I would have passed out at my desk. After I spilled water on my laptop, the Apple store told me it was basically beyond repair. The screen was broken, it wouldn't charge, and they told me it'd be cheaper to buy a new laptop.
I brought my laptop afterwards to Rossmann and they replaced the screen and MagSafe board, and cleaned off the corrosion. A few months later one of the keys stopped working and they repaired that overnight.
Both times, I was very happy with the service and price. There's nobody I would trust more with my laptop. -

First off, it's been months since I've last visited Rossmann Repair Group. There are many cons to this store, like returning customer discounts and prompt replies to e-mails. However, it wasn't until I've decided to change my Macbook Pro's battery myself that I realized some things, which eventually lead to this three star rating.
I spilled some orange juice and hot tea about 6-7 months apart. First repair cost me $500. To give a little insight to my first experience with Rossmann Group: I contacted them and got a quote of $450 after Apple told me that it'd be $1200, so I took my computer to the store and dropped it off for about a few days. Second day or so, I got a message from their own forum-like system saying that there is a possibility that another part might be damaged and it'd be $50, but they didn't know for sure yet, and that they'd ask me beforehand before they went ahead and fixed it, which they NEVER did. I don't mind stuff like this, and this is still not the thing that caused the three star review.
Second repair didn't prompt a problem like that, however there was another one that's far more serious. When I got the Macbook back, the black plastic part on the bottom and behind of the screen was melted, possibly by a soldering tool. I told the guy who worked on my computer that there is no way it could be me, and even though he hesitated for a second, he agreed to fix it. A day or so later, a friend of mine called me on Skype. He told me that he couldn't hear me so I checked what was up. The OS didn't recognize the microphone, as in, the option/mic on settings was grayed out and not functional. So, I called Rossmann group and asked them about this, and they told me that they'd gladly fix it. I didn't have time to take it to them after that, but it was nice to know they'd realized their fault. However, this is still not the reason why I'm giving them three stars.
Last week, my battery failed completely. I called Apple and asked them how is that possible since it's only been over 430 complete cycles. They told me that the battery life is usually 1200 cycles and that it might be a defective battery (after 2 years), yet it'd still cost me about $500 to get it replaced. I seriously lolled at Apple's customer service, then called Rossmann Group again. They told me that it'd be $250 to replace the battery, and it'd be done within the day. First off, I am a little hesitant paying $250 let alone $500 for a computer battery. Regardless, I thanked Steve (I believe) and hung up the phone. Got myself a $60 battery/screwdriver kit and decided to fix it myself, and I did. Took me about 20 minutes to fix the computer and it now works like a charm.
Here is the reason why I am attaching 3 stars to this review: When I removed the bottom case of the computer, there were still large spots of orange juice and black tea residue. Let me rephrase that, it was all over the bottom aluminum case and still somewhat sticky. It has been months since the last tea repair, and about a year-ish since the orange juice one. Anyways, I cleaned it up with IPA 99% and went on with the repair. As I started to remove the screws along with the help of a iFixit article, I realized that about 7 screws were missing here and there. I mean, how hard is it to put back everything you removed, guys? There were pieces with literally two screw holes, and with one screw in them. It's not even a single screw under a pile of under electronic parts. It's like day and night. One screw is in, its pair is not. How hard is it to put it back together the way you put it apart? Let me clear something up, I've never ever opened this Mac, and Rossmann Group were the only ones to do so. Not even Apple has ever taken my computer for any sorts of repairs or diagnostics. But, I digress. There were spots of orange juice residue on both speakers, and some on the exhaust fan as well. The sad part in all this isn't even the screw part, it's the part where they told me that they'd clean the computer with ultrasonicsupersomething and that it'd look brand new. It's really disappointing, guys. I am really happy with the repair part of things, but it's really disappointing to see what I saw a few hours earlier when I was fixing my computer.5/20/2016 Thank you for your repeat business! I'd like to clarify a few things.
Firstly, you can't put a… Thank you for your repeat business! I'd like to clarify a few things.
Firstly, you can't put a speaker into an ultrasonic cleaner: it will kill it. Only the motherboard goes into the ultrasonic cleaner. no other part of the machine. If one looks closely, you won't find a spec of tea on a board that leaves here after being put through the ultrasonic. If we put your speakers in the ultrasonic cleaner with the same liquid solution we use on the motherboard, no sound would come from them anymore. If we put a trackpad or keyboard through the ultrasonic cleaner, they will die - the only portion of the device that goes into the cleaner is the motherboard itself.
Secondly. pieces like the backlight can store sticky liquid that we cannot get to. As you said, this was a six month old repair. Water is easy to compress air out of the machine, but sticky tea and orange juice tends to be difficult to remove completely from every crevice, and can slowly seep out over time. Even if we clean the bottom case, all it takes is a drop of something being pushed out after a month of temperature changes and it falls right onto the bottom case. As was mentioned here, this was a repair from six months ago. You can actually see here how we clean the board and machine separately youtu.be/iXiCjLias1w?t=1… - we have over 220 repair videos on the channel which detail how we clean the devices we work on. I am literally going over every single keyhole with a q-tip here.
Keep in mind this machine had been drenched not once, but *twice* by sticky liquids. Water is easy, tea/orange juice is a nightmare. It just gets everywhere and sticks behind and inside things like nothing else, and seeps out over time. These are not modular devices like PCs, half of the device is either riveted or glued together in a nearly impossible to simply strain liquid out of fashion. These machines were simply not designed to be submerged in sticky substances repeatedly.
Thirdly if you take a look at most batteries for $60 on eBay, you'll see why they're priced that way. Many retina MacBook batteries sold on eBay still have the original half ripped l adhesive strips on them from the used laptops they were ripped from. And they get sold as new.
Fourthly, I do see a note of mentioning to you the dc in board replacement in the beginning. I also see a note that we gave you a free displayport cable, which is a labor intensive job we usually charge $150 for, $75 if something else is already being done. This was done for free.
Where I am disappointed here is that you felt you couldn't reach out to us personally with any of these issues. It isn't about taking fault for the microphone issue - you spent good money here. The mic wasn't part of what we replaced or repaired; it was never touched. And still, I honestly would just give you one for free. If some tea that was stuck behind an I/O board creeped out and fell onto the bottom I'd have taken your entire machine apart and cleaned it again for nothing. We care about our customers. Something about your experience with us, I feel, has lead you to the belief that we lied about how we repaired your device and half assed it entirely on purpose, which is what I find to be the greatest failing. If we give off the impression in any way that we do not care about the people that leave devices here, then we have truly failed. Read more -

They know what they're doing. Not to be trite, but why bother ever going to the Apple Store again. Following some physical damage, my old Macbook Pro that was shelved for over a year was resurrected and works great again. Super fast, convenient, and reasonably priced.

02/11/2016 - about a month after I made that post, I decided to start it back up and it worked fine. And as you can see, it's been working ever since.
I do hear something rattling inside so i think something in there came loose, but I'm not gonna open it since it's working and I want it to last until I buy my new msi laptop.
So once again the only reason it's working is cause of these guys.
So thank you very much!Where do I even begin?9/25/2015 Previous review

So I had issues with my mid 2010 MacBook Pro since back around March. Literally just had the battery fixed a few months before, only to have the screen flicker oddly and then go completely black on me. I was at a loss for a few months and finally decided to set out for a repair search once I had a recent photoshoot job set up in October. I found MacBook medic or whatever first, but after reading how they sometimes pressure you to replace the boards entirely and start going into other problems that were never previously even wrong (once it's suddenly in their hands.) I decided against it.
So... I decided to look up diy ways to fix the graphics card issue and conveniently found the roasting your logic board in an oven videos. Skeptical at first, I though "well if this is the only way..." I was immediately stopped by a suggested YouTube video after that one finished. It turned out to be one of Mr. Rossman's videos on why NOT to do that and why it could simply be a circuit issue before simply a piece of the board needing to be soldered onto the board.
After watching, I was so impressed that I started watching more and more that I became assured that this was the man who could get the job done. Call this story heavily biased for Rossman, but if this same part happened to you (which I'm about to bring up.), you'd be just as pleased.
So I sent it in around sept. 11th I believe. Didn't get there until around the 14th. Called in a few times, but couldn't get a hold of him. However as I had been following his current videos, I already knew he was going through some busy times and virtually was hardly getting much sleep. A few days later, around the 16th, I finally got a hold of him and we went over the issues with my laptop. Turns out that it couldn't truly be fixed and in the long run even if he did fix it, it would be a waste of my money and that id be better off aiming to buy a more stably built sort of laptop for my line of work.
He gave me suggestions, options and we even discussed a bit of his YouTube channel before he got off the phone. Overall it was a great experience. So... I ended up getting my full refund back even though I was told 20 would be taken out to send back the laptop andddddd I got the laptop back today only to see.... That it turns on perfectly.
When I say I was deeply humbled at this moment, I truly was humbled. For him to actually still have it working now and give me a refund made me feel as if he gave me a blessing and I definitely stand by supporting his business. Although we went over stepping away from Mac based products, when I move to New York, I will definitely be buying a refurbished MacBook from him just to support his business.
This review is not to say you will get a full refund, as your cases may be different from mine and my issue could've simply been a simple fix for him along with this being a situation that's still doomed in the long run since how Apple created this logic board's design. However, this man gives top of the line service and stands by his morals. And if you don't believe that, his business work and ethics shows for itself.
Update: after almost a week it's back at it, but at least the screen is up. This gave me time to swipe up some of my important photos, but it's done. Thanks so much for your help mr. Rossman. I couldn't have gotten this without you.
For those who didn't watch the video: this MacBook was doomed to fail but miraculously worked for a few days once sent back with full refund. Thanks to that I was able to pull files and plan to grab more ASAP. Read moreWhere do I even begin?9/19/2015 Previous review

See here, this video is of your logic board repair. youtube.com/watch?v=jG0W…
All I can think of is that I did not add C9560 poly cap in until AFTER I had decided it was dead. I think it needed C9560 there even if I was using an external, linear, lab power supply to the PP1V8R1V55_S0GPU_ISNS_R rail. I really thought the filtering in the PSU would be sufficient, it is rated for 10 amps and is linear, not switching. I put a poly film in there and had ground side of it going to the CPU heatsink screwhole(which is obvious and probably disgusting looking if you take the board out).
So weird that I didn't even think to turn your laptop back on to see if it worked after reassembling it. I figured it was f'd!
I am glad it works and good luck with it for as long as it will live. Thank you for the kind words and good review! Read more -

Spilled water on my less than one year old Macbook Pro. Now the Apple Store quoted me for $1300 to repair the laptop because the keyboard, track pad, and speakers were all broken. I went to other "authorized" repair shops and they gave me virtually the same price all over $1000+. I saw Louis' reddit AMA and later saw some of his videos but honestly still felt a bit skeptical. When I went to the store the guy behind the counter quoted me for $475+tax to replace the parts and they said it would be done in 3-5 business days. I thought there would be a hidden charge for the repair and was prepared to negotiate after dropping it off. I came to pick it up and was charged that exact price. He said they fixed the logic board in order to fix the speakers which would normally be a $100-200 repair (which is already way cheaper than buying a new logic board at $800) but I would not be charged more since I am already paying $475 for the keyboard and track pad which they said was alot. In the end the final price was around $510 including tax.
As a side note, when I went to pick it up there was a young woman before me who brought in her phone for a screen repair. She was quoted $80 by the guy behind the counter because they don't use bootleg screens and he told her if she's not comfortable with the price or using a third party store to just take it to the Apple store since it's just $20 extra. She was being a bit sassy but the guy remained professional. What a gem to find such an ethical group in NYC. 10/10 would strongly recommend. -

I had a graphic problem with my MacBook Pro from 2011. I brought the computer to these guys and one of the guy looked at it & told me that apple recalled models from 2011 which I didn't know at all. He could've just not tell me & fix the computer to charge $$$, but he didn't. He told me to bring it to Apple & they'll fix if or free. I really appreciate their honesty & definitely will bring my electronics to them in the future.

On a Tuesday, my three year old Macbook suddenly "crashed" (blinking file folder with question mark screen). I took it to Apple, and they quoted me $750 for a logic board replacement. Of course, it's insane to spend $750 on a three year old computer, at that point you may as well get a new one.
I took it to Rossmann on a Thursday afternoon. By Friday, they have called me with a diagnosis. They say the hard drive is completely dead, as well as corrosion on the logic board, with little chance of recovering my data. They quote me at $350, over half of what Apple wanted to charge me.
By Tuesday afternoon, they call me to come pick it up with a brand new hard drive and extensive internal cleaning, and to my surprise, the data is completely recovered. I take it home that night, and it does the same problem screen. I take it back the following afternoon, they say the wire that connects the hard drive has failed (a common problem with Macbooks) they fix it in fifteen minutes (!) and for free.
My computer is now working like new, for $350! I hope to never have electronic problems in the future, but if I do I will certainly come here and recommend it to all my friends. -

I took my macbook air here for a second opinion after the first place I went to told me I would need to completely replace the logic board for $$$$ and that it would take almost a week to order it.
Louis checked out my computer as soon as I walked in and told me he could fix it for half the price. He fixed it and even let me watch/answered my questions as he worked.
In total it probably took an hour for him to get my macbook working like I had never spilled water on it (oops...). Very happy with the service & will be returning if I ever need work done again in the future! -

Amazing, quick service AND it's really cheap. They will diagnose what's wrong with your electronic for free and then offer a price quote, which you don't have to take but it's fractions less than Apple repairs and other repair places. My MacBook retina screen was replaced for $4-500 less than Apple quoted me. I've also had iPhone batteries and buttons replaced.
I've been here twice (in the morning) and received same day service both times. They're efficient and really know what they're doing when it comes to diagnosing and fixing your electronics. -

No bottled water at the door, no cutesy decorations, no numbered tickets to grab. This place just fixes computers and they do it well.
My first problem was a frizzy laptop that was refusing to function, hella scary as I only had one backup and I wasn't super confident about that one. They said it was an old hard drive, replaced the drive, copied the data, upgraded the system, I picked up the computer the next day. Problem solved at a reasonable price, and fast.
Next, my kid's laptop had a W key go broken (his fault, jamming that game key). And I do mean broken, not just popped out of its socket. Brought it in. A few hours later I was called to pick it up. No charge, just a tip if I wanted to. (I wanted to and I did!)
That's what I want from a computer shop. Fixed computers. I can buy my own bottled water. -

Extremely pleased with service rendered on a MacBook Pro. Professional and reasonably priced, repairs are top notch and done well. I discovered the Rossman Repair Group after watching one of Mr. Rossman's many repair videos on YouTube. As an IT professional myself, I really liked what I saw, he certainly knows what he is doing. Many of the videos provide a fascinating look into a small business and a straight forward how-to fix it yourself if you're able. When our company needed a repair we couldn't handle onsite, we decided to give them a try and were glad we did. Thanks guys!

I'm very pleased with the quick and quality work this group did to repair my MacBook Air, which took a small spill and suffered a cracked screen.
I am generally not squeamish about doing some basic repairs myself, but when I looked at the cost of buying the parts, along with the trickiness of Apple's construction on this model, I decided paying a small bit extra to have a pro do the job would be worth every penny. The cost was very reasonable, and super competitive compared with any other outfit I found.
This is also the kind of small business I want to support. They obviously work very very hard and hold themselves accountable for getting the job done as they promise to. I also love the owner's profanity-laden diatribes on youtube (he and I seem to share a complete lack of tolerance for BS).
I hope I don't have occasion to need their services again -- but if I do, I'll do business with them again in a heartbeat. -

Update Oct, 2015. Another great experience at Rossman!
My mac book pro would not turn out..deads...no lights..nothing....I called an Uber and immediately brought it to Rossman. Did research and saw it could be a logic board, or power supply, or perhaps bad keyboard...repair ranging from $75-$575 depending on what it was.
Three hours later, Steve, calls me..."it was a loose ribbon...get your MacBook" I arrive there and have my credit card ready to pay...the price.ZERO... they said no charge..Not only is that almost too fair I am sure many shops would have found as way to make it an expensive repair.
I am sure it took at least a half hour to diagnose, and they charge me no money...For the record, I donated $50 in Rossman's name to a local charity that I will let them know of personally and not on here.
While Rossman's location may be slightly inconvenient for those above 23rd street , I highly recommend that anyone with any mac or iphone issue go to them and no one else!If you have any apple product that needs repair and you are out of warranty this is the only place… If you have any apple product that needs repair and you are out of warranty this is the only place to take your apple product.1/30/2015 Previous review
Steve should wear an "S" on his chest because he's the Superman of Mac Repair. I had a lapse of judgement and bought a macbook pro from craigslist. Though it seemed like a good deal there was some internal damage to the logic board that from my research seemed like would be a $600 fix minimum. Steve got his hands dirty and found out it would only be a $100 fix and had it to me the next day.
They are honest, and friendly and I'd highly recommend them! Read more -

Brought my Mac in because of a hard drive corruption. Previously took it to Best Buy and TekServe and was quoted $500+ to get the data- not affordable. Brought it to Louis and he was able to pull up the files in 10 minutes. My jaw hit the floor, I couldn't believe it! He extracted all of my data into a recovery folder on my desktop for me and restored my OS at a fraction of the price of other places, and it only took 1 day. Incredible!! I'm so appreciative, thank you Louis!

We also offer top of the line CCTV security camera installation services. Our prices for top of the line security cameras are far below that of blocky pixelated old setups. We come to you to assess your needs and perform all installation.
History
Established in 2008.
I spent four days at LaptopMD in 2009. I grew disgusted at the culture of the place.
The idea was to milk the maximum amount of money out of everyone who walked in. Management figured out the upper limit of what someone was willing to spend, and weaved a tale to take it; it was a predatory culture that trickled down to the junior staffers, even though they were not paid commission! Scary.
You could FEEL the misery in the air. You were micromanaged by people who know less. On day four I walked out while in the middle of a repair and never looked back. Two years later I had an office, and in three years a store - all built upon opposite ethics. Positive, transparent practices run our company.
We can educate you while remaining honest, humble, and respectful to our customers & employees, while remaining financially viable in an expensive city. Our store exists as proof to those who say "you can't run a business the way you do" that yes we can!
Meet the Business Owner
I began working on electronics professionally in 2007 for studios such as Avatar and Progressive Music in midtown Manhattan.
In 2008, I started a service that replaced LCDs on Apple laptops with same-hour service, with my last $268.
In 2011, I became a supplier of the LCDs and opened a separate company with the purpose of supplying companies that started where I was in 2008, at the bottom.
By the end of 2011, we stopped outsourcing a lot of our motherboard repair and began doing a lot of it here. This opened the door to a large set of business opportunities.
From humble beginnings of $268, we've evolved into a much larger business. We perform all repairs & fulfill all orders out of our storefront in the east village, but haven't forgotten where we came from.
You will notice from the second you walk in here that we retain a customer oriented perspective. Pragmatically treating everyone as we would like to be treated if the same thing happened to us is how we run our business.
