Review from Paul I.
Cheshire, CT
I have been going to this restaurant since, well, I was born (or there about). I believe I said my first words here, "Umm Good." I'm 21 and still coming back. My father has been coming here since he moved to Cheshire in 1983.
I will say that I have had better Italian food, Consiglios in New Haven, Osteria del Circo in NYC, Lo Portos in Troy, NY, but this restaurant is a true staple. The pizza is the best in Cheshire by far. Grand Apizza comes close, but does not catch it. I love New Haven style pizza. It is truly the best pizza in the world, Pepes being my favorite. Joe Bimonte worked at Pepe's before working with Luigi and Tony Rossini in Cheshire, opening his own restaurant in Hamden (now Eli's Pizza). There is some fine lineage here. The pizza is fantastic. We usually order Pepperoni and Meatball, plain sauce with grated cheese, or a variation there of. We order the pizza extra thin and well done because we like it that way. Although I don't mind the normal thickness or done-ness.
The remaining menu is standard, consistent Italian fare. The food very good. I usually order chicken parmigiana, cavatelli, or veal Marsala. I have also ordered many grinders and calzones. Even the Philly Steak and Cheese is quite good. You will not leave disappointed. My family usually orders take-out. The pizza does travel well; another user said it doesn't. You have to pick-up the pizza when they tell you to. Takeout dinners also travel well. The pasta that comes with the dinners is an entire dinner itself when you order takeout!
I have eaten in the restaurant many times over the past two decades. The interior has undergone many renovations. I love eating here. The waitresses are the same after all these years and you really get a hometown feel. When we walk in we are greeted by the owners who are usually making pizza behind the take-out counter. Don't expect a gourmet dining experience; there tends to be a lot of loud families and groups of friends here (again the hometown feel).
Overall, I love this restaurant and will never stop going. A must if you are visiting family in Cheshire or if you are passing through. If you live and Cheshire and have not been, you now have an important assignment. -

Best pie in the area. Rivals anything in New Haven, even the sanctified Wooster St. establishments. Their chicken parm Apizza is arguably my favorite in the world, and should be enjoyed by all.
Eat in, take out. Busy, but never intolerably. Just awesome, family-owned, homestyle Italian eats. Go. -

Great Pizza, there sauce is the best part, very strong tomato flavor. Of all the restaurants on earth this would be the one I would miss the most if it were gone. (of course the fact that my wife and I had our first kiss in their parking lot has nothing to do with that!)

people who give this 5 stars probably do not get out much. A-OK means solid. You will not be disappointed, but neither will you be blown away. The house salad had been in the refrigerator for a while but didn't have rust colored edges. Just very slightly wilted
The bread / roll like things were warm and terrific. The house Chianti was drinkable but just barely. None went to waste but wine snobs better buy one of the bottles
I had chicken Florentine. I enjoyed it but the chicken wasn't tender. I needed a knife. The spinach did not appear to be fresh but was fine. Lots of garlic. I am not complaining about that but be aware.
Bottom line: good reasonably priced Italian food. I would not have a problem going back, but I would prefer to explore other options -

This place has been a staple in my family since the early 90s, and little has changed about it since then. High quality, authentic Italian food for a very, very reasonable price. If you've never had pizza so amazing that it almost makes you weep, this is the place to go--it's up there with the revered New Haven establishments, but without the hassel of waiting in long lines or endlessly circling the block for parking. Not into the pizza? The toasted eggplant sub (fresh, never frozen eggplant), lasagna, and pasta primavera are among my favorites. There are also some more traditional Italian foods on the menu for the adventurous foodies. Their garlic bread? Mario Batali would order seconds.
Service is always on point with the same waitresses from my childhood still serving up their awesome fare. This place is a secret among area locals, they do awesome takeout, but if you decide to eat at the restaurant anytime between Thursday-Saturday, be ready for a cozy wait in the brick-lined lobby. As far as ambiance, it's nothing fancy decor-wise and the vibe is an unassuming, working class feel. This is the kind of place where you can go chill with your family or friends after a long work week, sink back a cold one, and thank your lucky stars it's Friday.
Rosinni's carries locally brewed sodas made by Foxon Park--the Cream Soda and Birch Beer are most excellent with a slice fresh out of the oven. An added bonus: they started carrying Peroni beer on tap: crisp, cold, and refreshing. God damn, could it get any better? -

20 years ago in my second grade "About Me" book I wrote that Rossini's was my favorite restaurant. Even today it holds tried and true. Nothing is better! The food is reasonably priced, the pizza, I think, is better than New Haven's. Even on Friday nights you still see the owners working their butts off and coming out when they get a moment to make sure you've enjoyed your meal. Incredible place.

Visiting the East Coast again, and needed to go to Rossini's. I would live here if I could. Amazing pizza! My fav is sausage and onion, and Rossini's is the best. The leftovers were my breakfast and lunch the next day. The service is as good as the pizza. Also, I was able to try Birch Beer, which I can't get on the West Coast.

Hands down, my favorite pizza place on earth. One thing to remember, Rossini's does not carry as well as a lot of other pizza. To get the full experience, have it there.

This is AUTHENTIC Italian! The owners of this place are from Italy, and it shows in the quality of their yummy pizza and vast menu of pastas and other items!
Thank you to my yelp peeps for sending us here, hub was in the area at the end of the day, so I looked on yelp for Cheshire and here was Rossini's! A solid 5 stars from both prior yelpers....so we decided to try it!
I can only imagine how fantastic the food must be if you eat it in their restaurant, for it was 5 stars even as takeout! We got a small Mozzarella pizza (and wow, their cheese quality is delightfully delicious, and the sauce was just perfect), hubby got a combo calzone, and we also tried the garlic bread with cheese. All were spectacular and cannot wait for tomorrow's leftovers! LOL.
The menu is vast, they have lots to choose from: Pizza, Pasta, Calzones, hot and cold Subs, Chicken and Veal dishes, Italian Specialties, and appetizers and salads. We cannot wait to try some of the other goodies!
(I updated the business info but sometimes takes yelp a few days to post, so here is their website): http://www.cheshireros.../
The website also says the owner learned how to make pizza when he was 11 in Italy, and came to the US when he was 21. This particular restaurant has been in business since 1979!
I am so thankful to yelp for allowing us to 'discover' a place we never would have otherwise! Yaaay! :o) -

The pizza here was pretty good, Rossini's is the kind of place that everyone remembers from when they were kids growing up that your parents would take you to every week - they get to know your name, and the place is good just because it's like you are part of the family. You can tell it's run by people who care about the quality of the food.
This was my first time in, the place is very classic italian old-school pizzeria. wood paneling. brick walls. not as bright lit as most restaurants, but thats ok. i had a cheese pizza and it was good - the crust was thicker than the average new haven area pie, stiff - the tomato sauce was thick with a good overall tomato paste taste and the cheese was chewy and maybe a bit oily. I liked the pizza, but it wasn't my favorite in the area. They don't do slices (which isn't a big deal) but they do take charge cards (10$ minimum) and they do sell Foxon park sodas (really plus one for that) ..
a real good classic pizzeria with a full menu. -

If Rossini's averages a 4.5 or 90%, what should Modern, Frank Pepe's or Sally's be two towns over? Consiglio's? Luce? 4.5? Really??
Things that make you go hmmmm....??? -

This is the stuff. This is the pizza that you can't get when you leave the tri-state area.
I'm leaving off 1 star simply because it isn't one of the big 3 (Sally's, Pepe's, and Modern). This is still a million times better than anything else out there. Sweet lord I miss this stuff. -

In my opinion, the best pizza in CT. The crust is a bit thicker than New Haven style, but still has a nice chewiness to it. Other entrees are also delicious and prices are very reasonable. Service is fast and friendly and they have a few decent beers, Sam Adams and Peroni, on tap.

Bah! I will never understand why everyone in town loves this place! The pizza is not only really expensive...it's extremely greasy! Blotting it with a napkin doesn't even help. You can almost literally wring out your slice. So gross!

I have to give 5 stars here, but in a different way than the 5 stars that I gave Pizzeria Marzano. They are two totally different kinds of pizza and have to be considered seperately.
My husband and I ordered a eggplant and garlic, and a Margherita. We were unaware that the medium pizzas are more like a large pizza elsewhere, so we now have yummy leftovers for dinner and probably tomorrows lunch as well.
The pizza had just the right amount of salt , although the garlic and eggplant was a bit saltier than the Margherita. Still it was not to the point of being over the top.
The sauce was flavorful and balanced on both pies. Cheese had a good flavor and nice consistancy, kind of stringy without being rubbery.
The crust was done really nicely and had a wonderful texture and crunch....and it had flavor! Imagine that....Pizza crust that has flavor! Not cardboard or styrofoam flavor, but a nice oven baked bread flavor, being neither tough & chewy or limp & soggy. It held up well to the toppings and didn't buckle, preventing them from taking a suicidal leap from their perch..
I had high hopes of ordering a dessert and an espresso, but I was way too stuffed for either.. Next time we'll be sure to order just one pizza and leave room for other items of goodness. -

This is our "go to" for pizza when we are home. Formica tables and booths, scratch-plaster walls covered with Plexiglas, and a noisy atmosphere. But the food makes up for it. This is true Italian, not from a jar. The pizzas are large, as is the calzone. One of the owners (Ralph) cooks regularly and keeps a small crew very busy every night. Plus, he recognizes me by sight now and always says "hi" to us. Not something I'd expect in the big New Haven pizza mills!

Really quite nice. Clam appetizer was excellent and the second best pizza in CT. (I'm partial to First & Last). Service a bit slow, but they were slammed when we were there. Definitely worth the drive!

Do NOT let this one go by - try it and see for yourself!
We were vacationing in CT this weekend, visiting Lake Compounce for the kids. Dinner time rolled around and we decided to use yelp to help us find an Italian restaurant. We found this restaurant and decided to drive the 20 minutes to give it a try since it got such great reviews.
It was awesome and completely worth the drive (we even pondered how long it would take us to drive here from our home the next state over, it was that good). We ordered the Sicilian pizza (a medium was more than enough for 2 hungry people - we ended up bringing some home to our hotel) with meatball and pepperoni. The crust was divine- the perfect thickness for a Sicilian pizza. It was tender and chewy while the very bottom had a crispy crunch to it. The sauce was perfect - not too tart, not too sweet, just right. We expected the meatball to be a somewhat generic sliced meatball on the top. Not here! Here it was pieces of meatball meat that great care was given to season perfectly - it had a wonderful flavor. And the pepperoni had the right amount of bite to it.
The kids had pasta (cooked to perfection, unlike another Italian restaurant I reviewed) and a kids' thin crust pizza, which was also cooked perfectly.
We were saddened that we were leaving the next day and didn't have a chance to come back and try all of the other mouth-watering Italian dishes they had. There was a great selection of chicken, fish, and veal that looked wonderful. But, we had to try to the pizza because of the reviews and we were very glad we did - this was the best we have ever had. -

I grew up in Cheshire, and Rossini's is my favorite pizza place hands down. Not overly salty, and if you are feeling adventurous, they have some great specialty pizzas - like the seatfood pizza with clams, crab, shrimp and calamari. The only problem I have with Rossini's is its just very confusing when you pick up a pizza, there is always a crowd so you are straining to hear them call your name or push your way to the front.

My all-time favorite pizza, period. I grew up on this place. Italian-style with a thin, crispy crust. Other places in nearby towns may be more famous, but do yourself a favor and visit this underrated gem!

Most pizza restaurants can be inconsistent, even in New Haven or NYC. Growing up in the area and considering I've been here a few hundred times my experiences overall have been consistently very good and the best in town. I recommend two pies. First, the meatball is unlike anywhere else as its ground up and with cheese and sauce it's great. For a white pie I love the broccoli as they dice it up spreading it across the pie. Most place serve large pieces of broccoli that don't cook and weight the pie down.
