    LOVE LOVE LOVE!

my lil pup (10 lb terrier) LOVES IT HERE!! and when he's happy i'm happy! It's A LOT smaller than i anticipated but that didnt seem to deters some of the huge hounds I saw. I love dog parks and all but sometimes it can get a bit dull so i love coming here and walking along the beach while my dog trots by my side san leash!

I always park on the street vs parking inside the parking lot...it's free! and seriously only an extra minute or two to walk over.

hey it's summer time! why not let the pups enjoy some sun as well =)!

    Gotta love this dog beach!
I truly enjoy taking my dogs here. It is perfect for my cocker spaniel who loves the water and the shallow waves, and to my golden retriever who mostly likes to roam around the wide stretch of sand.
Plus this spot is very to Belmont Shore and its awesome restaurants/bars.

My fiancé and I used to take our dog here quite often when we used to live in Long Beach. There was always plenty of free street parking, but most of the time we lived close enough to ride our bikes over.
The section that is coned off for dogs is right at the shore on one side of the beach and there were always plenty of people and dogs here in the afternoon and early evenings. Owners were pretty good about picking up after their dog and so this dog beach was pretty clean.
Even our shy little dog enjoyed coming out here to run along the shore with my fiancé and bark at the waves (I'm guessing he is either thinking the waves are growling at him or he thought that he had some kind of special ability to make the waves go back).
Weather was always perfect and the waves were calm. I miss coming here and watching my dog enjoy his time here rolling in the sand and digging in the sand (make sure you bring a towel for your little friend or friends). This is a must place to take your dog if you live in the area and want to give your dog a new scene from his typical walks. Just don't forget to bring a few bags in case your little pup needs to use the restroom and bring a towel to dry him or her off and put on your sun block.

This was Rosie's (my dog) first time at a dog beach and she loved it! I'm not sure if she's a fan of going into the water, but she loved interacting with all the other dogs. People were friendly but of course you'll always have the rude folks. I went on a weekday so parking is available, although it's metered. I thought the beach was pretty big and empty, considering it was a weekday. I'd definitely go back on a hot, sunny day.

I love this place but Miss Daisy may rate it 3.75; most time we go she tries to run back to the car especially if it is crowded. (Being a Shih Tzu that could also be one of her "tricks" or "jokes," that the breed is known to play tricks on the owners) so on those joke filled beach days she is fine just chilling next to me or on the leash smiling. But today she was happy playing off her leash just not with the dogs. 99% of the people and dogs that go there are always very nice, friendly, unpretentious and open to chat. The first time I went there someone gave me directions even though it was just over the wall from the the street parking.  I may enjoy it more than my dog but its a great day out at the beach and she sleeps the whole way home! Enjoy! Don't forget to bring a water bowl and water or fill it up at the restroom/public showers that are very close.

Although Rosie's Dog Beach is limited on space, its a sufficient amount for Mochi to get his wiggles out.  He loves the water, loves the dogs, loves the sun.  What more can he ask for?

I'm gonna give it a 3 stars because I don't like the cones and it is sectioned off by cone's and makes it a smaller section for dogs. I usually don't stay that long because it takes only about 5 minutes to walk from across.
There is ample meterd parking and we will be back when we can't get to our regular beach.

It was 89 degrees last Sunday (in November)!  And where did I decide to go...Rosie's Dog Beach in LB City, of course!

Me and my little Krissie carpooled with my yelper friend J.C and her 3 dogs. It was quite a drive coming from Marina Del Rey. But everything was smooth sailing once we arrived there. There were plenty of metered parking....who knows but maybe people stayed at home thinking November wasn't appropriate for beaching:-)

Despite of it all, there were plenty of peeps and their best friends hanging out all along the coast. Besides regular dog parks, I've never seen so many people and their dogs at one place. I felt at home. Krissie felt at home too (for the most part). It's like we all understood each other. I took off the leash from Krissie but she stayed with me the entire time. I managed to take her into the water and she didn't think it was fun.

I got myself distracted with so many pretty shells on the sand. We started walking about a quarter mile up (as I was collecting shells) and almost got cited for leaving the dog beach area. Apparently a lot of people were complaining dogs were running amuck past the cones (which I didn't know). So be careful not to get sidetracked and stay within the cones!

Krissie and J.C.'s 3 dogs had a blast going through other people's stuff (ahem....) saying hello to other people and their dogs. It was one BIG happy family.

We ended the day with a nice wash at the Tidy Dog (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) down the street and the dogs slept like a baby on the way back home.  Time well spent!

This dog beach is amazing. Even in the middle of the day on a weekday there were several dogs and their owners. The "enclosure" is only surrounded by a few orange traffic cones, which was a surprise to me especially since all the dogs weren't on leashes but it didn't seem to be a problem. It's a little difficult to find since it's just a sectioned-off piece of the beach. The people there were friendly and it was easy to start up a conversation. The dogs there are the happiest dogs in the world.

There's no cost to be there nor to park.

    Yay for the dog beach!!!

Free parking on the street!  Really nice people on the beach!  All the owners here seem to know their dogs really well and there weren't any problems with the dogs being off-leash.  It's easy to pass up since it's just a small stretch of sand marked off with cones, but it's plenty of room for the pups to run around and play in the sand  :)

My dog LOVES the beach and this is the closest (which is pretty close actually) one to our place. We love coming here with Chaka. This is a really clean beach and most owners are respectful of others and their dogs. You'll find great playmates for your pet here. The dogs are generally well-behaved dogs that go here. I'm sure owners have enough sense to only take their 'friendly' pups here, however, one time our little Chakito ran into a bit of an overly aggressive black lab once.

Other than that, it's a great place to enjoy any day of the week. Minus one star because the lifeguard reprimanded us on walking on the boardwalk to get to the dog beach. Dogs are not allowed on the boardwalk (which I think is quite ridiculous), we can't even walk on it to get to the dog beach.

The 'rule' is that you must cross from the parking lot through the sand in only the section that leads straight to the dog beach. It's quite silly if you ask me.

Remember to bring some water, people share, but the pups get thirsty quickly.

My brother and fiancee usually takes their dog to Huntington Beach but we decided to go somewhere closer to home so off we went to this one in Long Beach.

It's a bit dirty but the dogs still have fun. That's what matters.

Tidy Dog ($15 for a self service wash) is conveniently close by when you and your pup are done at the beach.

As far as dog beaches go... Its not somewhere I would travel to!

I live in Long beach and my girlfriend has a dog and we like the beach, hence we go here, but only because we can walk to it.

PROS: parking is easy, mostly friendly dogs and people
CONS: DIRTY!!! trash washed up on shore, sand fleas!

If you wana spend a day at the beach with your dog and live any further than 5 miles away, go to Huntington Beach's dog beach, much nicer! Because I live here, I will continue to go...

The place is not bad, is wide open and not that crowded.
However, I will NEVER ever bring my doggie there. We went Sat afternoon for one hour to check the place out and as shy and mellow my dog is, he didn't play much with other dogs but just walk on the sand. When we got back home, we showered him and next day, we found out he had many many bite marks. He was suffering, he was itchy... We usually maintain him very nit and clean. We swipe his paws everytime he goes out to pee or poop and we wash his paws when he takes longer walks.
MY DOGGIE GOT BEACH FLEA!!!!!!! I can't believe it!!! I didn't even know when he was itchy, Monday morning, I took him to the vet, he got a shoot and a pill, it costs us $121. If you want to spend time and $$$ at the vet, you are welcome to visit this beach... otherwise, please choose wisely where you want your loving doggie to spend their time.
    Good luck!

Quite a drive, but it's the closest off-leash dog beach to me in LA County. I believe there are a few closer on-leash dog beaches  (i.e. Leo Carillo) but like to let my little Boston Terrier run free, not to mention you can't do the whole Bay Watch slowmo run while holding a leash. I really need both arms swinging to get my man boobs bouncin'. Welcome for the visual.

If you've never taken your dog to the beach, maybe try an on-leash dog beach before this one (It can get a little hectic with all the dogs running around, it gets packed on the weekends, and dogs roam without supervision.) There were a few bigger dogs attempting to drown my smaller dog while fetching his ball in deeper water. I really don't think that was their intention, but it's still scary. Invest in a float coat if your dog likes to swim. Especially for dogs like mine that are very loyal to their ball, only coming back once they've grabbed it.

For the most part, it seems owners are responsible. What I also like about this beach besides the free street parking is that the waves are nice and calm. Designated cones mark boundaries. Inside the cones = good. Outside the cones = jail and dog impounding ... ok probably just a ticket. Don't tempt it.

My face hurt from smiling too much after an hour at Rosie's Dog Beach. This is by no means a bad dog beach, it's just no Huntington Dog Beach - I think that one is pretty unmatchable.

This one is a relatively small section of beach (a little less than a quarter mile maybe) and because of the water break you don't get the same waves you get in HB, but still, it's a damn fun time. It seems like a the people at this beach are good at watching their dogs and all of the dogs seemed well-behaved. Penny had a great time too, sure - a bit of stimulation overload for the first 20 minutes or so, but then she got acclimated and had a grand ol' time trying to dodge the waves and chasing a squirrely little pug all over the beach.

One major plus about this beach as opposed to HB though is parking. It's .25 per 15 minutes, but is waaaay easier to come by than in Huntington. It's definitely a good time and I forsee many weekends spent here with Penny this summer.

I live in Whittier but my boyfriend lives in Belmont (about 2-3 blocks from the doggie beach).
Since I spend half the week at his place I tend to visit this spot often with our dog Jilly. Jilly isn't really big on interacting with other dogs, the water or people so we mainly come her for its convenience.
I would NOT make the trip to come here otherwise. There are better options in SoCal.
If you're local however, and you have a dog that likes to run around, swim  & fetch I would highly recommend this place.
The dogs and owners that I've met here are very friendly and everyone sorta watches out for other peoples dogs.

Warning: Be prepared for trash and sand fleas.

    Helpful Tips:

    1. This place has no signs so look for either Roycroft or Argonne. Its between these two streets.

    2. Don't park in the lot. Its $12!!!! Not a fan of that!

    3. Look for the orange cones. That's where you need to be.

    4. Bring poop bags and please do everyone a favor and pick up your dog's poop. Yes, I see you and everyone else does too. Pick it up!!

    5. Why would you bring your dog if its not spayed/neutered? Why would you bring your dog if its not on flea prevention program?  You are at a DOG beach with tons of dogs. Hello?!

    6. Ok I'll go right out and say it. My dog is shy/cranky/old. He likes the beach but doesn't care too much to play with other dogs. Don't give me dirty looks when my dog ignores your dog. That is why we stay closer to the end of the orange cones.

We rescued a German Shepherd the end of last year and wanted to try the beach. The  weather has been perfect for the dog beach, so we gave it a try. My dog LOVES the beach. He pretty much stays to himself or we play fetch and frisbee. He gets a great workout & lovess the space to run. The weekends during the middle of the day are a little chaotic but we went late afternoon and I usually go once during the week and we have a whole big corner to ourselves for him to run.  I rarely see anything more than scuffles between dogs and I have yet to step in it' so the beach is pretty clean. The two main things are parking and the wind. There is plenty of parking but if you are parking right in front of the dog park those meters take QUARTERS ONLY. Not dimes that would be equal in value to a few quarters. I hate that. Second, if it is windy, you will see the sand getting picked up and blown across the beach, your face, eyeballs, etc...

We live inland, so any beach is a trek for us. To get to a dog beach is even harder since they are so few and far between. We have gone to Rosie's dog beach a couple of times, and will surely be back if it doesn't close down (I heard rumors that might be on the horizon). That being said, compared to other dog beaches in Southern California, this one is pretty lacking. The area is just a small coned off area of the beach and the water is pretty crummy like the rest of the beach. Our go-to dog beach is a stretch of sand just north of Ventura. Santa Barbara has the nicest dog beaches we've been to. We also enjoyed the dog beaches in San Diego and the one in Huntington. So if we are in the area with our pup, we'll stop for her, but we won't make a trip to Long Beach just to go to Rosie's Dog Beach.

The corgi seemed a bit sad today (or so my human feelings projected on the dog thought so anyways).
The ocean always brings me to a state of zen so I figured it would do the same for my Dee.
After 45 mins drive we arrived and lo and behold its doggy beach heaven!
My Dee had a jolly time prancing and pouncing on waves sniffing various butts and what not. After a few hours of catching frisbees in the ocean she had a belly full of salt water and sand but in much better mood.

I'd give Rosie's a full 5 stars but -1 star is for random floaty pieces of turd in water from  retardo owners who don't curb their dogs. :(

I was so excited to find Rosie's Dog Beach in Long Beach.  It's not far from LA, and both my dog and I love the beach.  Well, she pretty much loves anywhere she can hang out off-leash.
This stretch of beach is popular, but not overwhelmingly busy.  It's funny how people only go to that part of the beach, though.... you'd think they could expand it...
The bigger dogs love splashing in the waves and playing on the sand.  My little dog gets somewhat overwhelmed by that, but there's plenty of space further back from the water in which to hang out as well.
People say it's dirty, but I honestly didn't think so; I saw no trash or anything.  I'm glad it's time for her flea medication today, though, just in case.
There's some free street parking, as well as the reasonably priced lot.

I love this dog beach and it really is the best therapy ever to just take your dog here and watch all the other dogs running around. Never had a bad experience here and it's cute when you can tell the puppies who have never been before compared to all the regular dogs. I remember the dogs and their names easier than I remember the people! Lol.

It's in a nice area and it's so easy to find free parking super close. So I think that's a big plus. You have to keep your dog on their leash until you get to the area that's coned off for them, then you can set 'em free! The water is also very calm there and lots of the dogs loooove swimming. It's just fun to watch.

I always bring the doggie bags (of course) and a big bowl with a lot of fresh water. All the dogs end up making visits to drink from the bowl. Sharing is caring, so bring fresh water if you can. :)
So it's a great place to let your dog have a blast if you're planning on having them sleep good that night. Oh, and don't be worried if they go swimming and the next day have diarrhea. Swallowing some salt water will do that, no need to panic, haha. Can't count how many times new dog owners will freak out when it happens to their puppies and spend tons of money on vet bills.

I really loved taking my dachshund here when I lived in Long Beach. We lived in a small apartment so it was very exciting for him when he got to explore the great outdoors! My dog is a little social butterfly so he had a blast meeting new friends! His favorite were the bigger dogs. He always wanted to chase after them! This was a fun activity for us to do a few days out of the week!

One word of advice: if you have a female dog who is in heat, I suggest to not bring her! Seriously, wait until it's over unless you are looking to get your dog's eggo preggo. I remember one time a few years ago this woman brought her female dog who was in heat and all the male dogs were excited and after her (mine included). Guess what? She got mad at me because my dog was sniffing her dog's behind for "too long of a time".

Other than that small incident, we always had a wonderful time at the beach. Your dog will not stay in the cone so be prepared to chase after them. Also, be prepared to have your bathtub turn into a new beach because your dog will be dirty when they are done playing!

Bring the whole family. It's great here.

We have been to a few dog beaches in So Cal and I have to say that Rosie's is #2 on my list. My pup loves the sand and he goes crazy once he feels it on this paws.  This tiny dog beach is in a very convenient location next to tons of street parking and dog friendly 2nd St.  Every time we stop by the beach is not overly crowded and the beach looks pretty clean.

I just wish the doggy area was bigger.  The small coned off areas feels so restrictive.  And too bad dogs are not allowed to walk on the bike path.  I would love to be able to walk my pup next to the beach all of the time.

A nice area to bring your dogs off leash.  There's plenty of parking in the metered lot or on the street.  If I had to complain I'd say I wish it was bigger.  I would guess that it's about 200 yards long or so.  Of course, my dog Nitro goes "out of bounds" when chasing seagulls down the beach.  I wish it were bigger.

The water is mostly calm because of the outer break wall so it's nice for dogs to swim and frolic in.  A great place!

This was too awesome.  Our pups went nuts.  We regularly socialize them either at daycare or the park and give them regular exercise but the combination of beach + off-leash + friends was too much.  And they exploded into happiness when we set them loose.  Parking was close-by.

All manner of pups share this stretch of beach space, from big to small.  I am always a little nervous when big pups and little pups get to mix because sometimes little pups think they are giant pups and are easier to get injured or hurt.  But I am just really happy to that there is dog beach space around.

One word of advice for newcomers (from a newb myself), I thought I was going to have a nice picnic out here with the dogs running about.  But since you really should be watching your dog, it would be really hard to actually camp out at one place and eat your lunch, etc. unless you have someone to tag team with.  I actually ended up leaving bags of stuff at one place while I was looking after them, and that was definitely not smart.

Happy, sleeping pups on the couch.  :)

The only thing keeping this place from being a 5 is the water quality in LB, otherwise it's so cute to watch the dogs play! In the summer, my friends and I come to play volleyball every weekend which is right next to the dog beach so we get to dog-watch as they come & go. SO CUTE!! There are little dogs & huge dogs and most of them are friendly (if yours isn't, I'd recommend keeping them on a leash & close by because other dogs are really playful). I bring LeLe here sometimes and although she's super people friendly, she's not dog friendly, so I always keep a close eye on her, worried that she'll jump on the other guys.

Keep in mind, dogs are only allowed in the coned-off area (not along the bike/running path). There's also a bathroom, shower area, and water fountain very close by to rinse off which is convenient for your thirsty/dirty pup.

For me weekends always mean a handful of things: clothing optional, cooking and baking some bomb ass foodie, going out to try some new grub, catching up on some zzzz's and quality time with the fur babies and The Mr.

Lame, corny or predictable as my weekend sounds these rituals have landed me right into the Long Beach Dog Beach Zone. Going to the dog beach is a full on win of a situation. As you watch your pups get their fun in the sun and exercise, so do you. Basically imagine a world where cool and playful puppies and their owners who for the most part are as cool and playful as their better halves can go and just be themselves and interact with other owners and pups who feel likewise.

It's all true too...parking is a plenty and affordable to free and the dog beach is easy to find. Just read up on the rules and everyone will be good to go.

Roxanne and Frankie give the dog beach 2 enthusiastic paws up!

This is my least favorite dog beach in the LA area. Huntington and Malibu are a trek... but worth it. Much less crowded, much prettier and a nicer "scene". Oh, and while we were there (1.5 hrs) 4 dogs peed on our belongings. ICK!

Definitely an amazing park. Great to have dogs allowed to frolic in the ocean. Two things would make this park outstanding for me.

    1. Some kind of fencing, even if simple. I know my dog would not run but it was def a concern of mine with other dogs.

    2. A clean up area by the parking area (people would love it too!). Put in just a hose and it would be wonderful!

Overall a great play area for dogs.

This dog beach is totally awesome and I applaud the Long Beach community for roping off a good section of their beach for man's best friend. If only Los Angeles county would do the same I wouldn't have to drive a million miles to LB!   But it's okay I really like their beach. I just wish I could visit more often.

The great thing about this beach is that it's clean. People do a good job of cleaning up after their dogs because it seems like everyone is really keeping a good eye on their pet. Another thing I like is that you can come here for both yourself and your dog. This beach's vibe is definitely pro human and pro dog!  Plus, a ton of parking (metered so bring quarters).

Another great thing I found out after this weekend is that there is a self service dog wash called Tidy Dog nearby so after your dog plays it up in the ocean and in the sand you can take him to Tidy Dog to get clean before you put him in the car to go home.

My dog Scout is socially awkward. Lord love 'im, but he is. I used to take him to the Santa Monica dog parks but when I realized he would never romp with the other mutts but would rather sit beside me and stare off into space, I decided to try something new. Last summer was our summer of the dog beach. I had just come back to LA from Virginia and I wanted to spend some quality time with my doggy, give him a new adventure, and spend some much needed time in the salt and sand.

This is Scout's favorite place! I know he can't wait until the weather warms up so we can load back up into the car have a playdate down in LBC. When he's at the beach he actually plays, interacts with dogs, and has a great time! I'm so glad we found a place where he can get his ya-yas out!

This place is great!  High marks for dog friendly beaches or at least portions of a beach dedicated to the pooches.

It seems to be well-maintained and they provide poop bags at the entrance to the dog zone, but I have not noticed any station providing any fresh water.

My girl hasn't yet gotten the hint that she can swim, but as soon as she warms up to the other dogs, she's playing chase and having fun.

Some of the owners seem cliquey and to themselves compared to the parks I've been to in Venice or WeHo, but today I talked to a couple ladies who seemed friendly and asked about my pup.

It's definitely the new go-to spot especially since I can smell the one on 7th Street from where I live.....eewww!

I came here for the first time last weekend and I loved it.  I've lived in the general area for about 10 years and didn't even know this dog zone existed.  I highly recommend it!

It's off of ocean blvd between yankee doodles and ripples on the beach side (obviously).  There's a wall that is on the street that blocks the view of the dog beach, so you wouldn't know it was there unless you are looking for it.  There's a parking lot with a "boat launch" sign that charges you $10 to park there and it gives you a front row spot to the beach.  But $10?!  Pfffttt.... I'll park on the street.

And, when you park on the street, it's really not far from the beach at all.  And it's free.  I suggest bringing your own poop bags, because I didn't really see any around and you need to always be prepared for that so we can keep these beaches clean!

I love that everyone here is dog lovers.  Over at the HB dog beach, sometimes you have to deal with irritated surfers in the area - at this beach the waves aren't too big so there aren't any surfers.  The overall area is much smaller than HB, but it was a lot bigger than I thought it would be.  TONS of room for running around and playing.  My dog was very happy!
