I've loved this place since it was called "Hamburger Mary's" & they gave you the bill in a patent leather pump. Put me in a reasonably priced eatery with gay decor (& atmosphere) located in Wilton Manors and I'm pretty much in heaven. You walk in and any gay culture connoisseur will revel in the "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane", Marilyn Monroe & Drag Queen artwork. Boas, leopard print and stilettos galore. And then there's the food.
The names may have changed (Hamburger Mary's always had the "Buffy the Hamburger Slayer" turkey patty optional burger that was to die for), but the quality is the same. Delicious and sizeable burgers (their turkey burgers are tasty and juicy - a rare find!) and salads - all with super kitschy names. Sunday morning they have brunch - the Banana Nut waffle (can't get enough of the banana nut butter served with it) or the Miss Truvy's french toast are to die for (arguably the best french toast I've ever had). If you don't have much of a sweet tooth, you could always have one of their "Big 'Dicts" (eggs benedict that is) or omelets. And to wash it all down? $5 Mimosas, $3 Bloody Marys, or a bucket of beer for $8.
The food & decor may be fabulous, but what really sets this place apart is the atmosphere. Every time I go it's always packed. There's a sense of community here that is contagious. Everyone's having a good time & enjoying each other's company. All in all, one of the best (gay & otherwise) diners in all of South Florida.
Just had brunch here this past sunday and they serve the most delicious french toast platter i've had in a while. topped with crunchy, wamr pecans and drizzled in maple syrup, the french toast surely does not disappoint.
My friends were thrilled with their orders of Banana Nut Pancakes and Ham & Cheese omelet.
Did I mention they have grreat brunch drink specials? Like mimosas and bloody mary's for $3.50 and a bucket of 8 beers for $5. It's hard to beat.
Also, the place gets pretty packed, especially the outside seating so make sure you get a reservation. Great atmosphere, people and service.
This is a reliable place. The drinks are, for the most part, very good; however, their bloody marys are truly awful.
Brunch is their best service of the day. The outside patio is the more pleasant dining area. If you sit inside at dinner time, you'll not be able to hear yourself think over the loud music.
The service is friendly and very efficient!
Slight change...a friendly Yelper pointed out that four stars was too generous for Rosie's. He's right. Three stars is A-OK; and that's exactly what Rosie's is.
I'm surprised by the positive reviews here. Everyone I know will only order the only edible thing on the menu - the BLT. Their hamburgers are simply awful.
As for the atmosphere, the space is o.k., but the music. Eek gads! Bubble gum music played way too loud. The crowd? A lot of people continue to come here, but certainly not for the food or music. If it weren't gay it wouldn't survive 5 minutes.
Also, I like my waitrons to serve food, not dish. They should keep the repartee for their in the biz Monday night outings. I came to dinner with the people I want to converse with.
I think everyone I know comes here for the atmosphere and not the over priced food.
Burgers: Delicious and tasty.
Fries: Okay.
Mojitos: Not-so-good (not well muddled.)
Verdict: I would come back for the burgers. Good service, nice and clean laid-back atmosphere inside and out. Prices are a little high for a burger joint by a dollar or two, but I think the place makes up for it. Complimentary valet parking.
In my quest for a Great Burger and Beer, I learned of Rosie's and promptly fell in love. The menu shows a sense of humor with names like "Wilma Breathstink" and "Pinky Tacodero". Draft beer selection is not as vast as I'd like, but it's made up for by the atmosphere and the fun watching the gay boys and lesbians having a good time.
The prices are reasonable and the service is always good.
Whenever we head to "Disney World" as we call Wilton Manors, if we need a meal to soak up our 2-4-1 drinks from Alibi, we would rather eat here than Alibi's. Reliable and always good and portions are generous!
Totally casual.
Informal menu....burgers and wraps and such.
SUPER-friendly bartenders.
Excellent cocktails....voodoo punch! yum!
A place to hang out with friends.
The food here is beyond AVERAGE. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either lying through their teeth or from Idaho (sorry Idaho-ians, had to knock somebody). And the prices, both food and drink, are WAY too high. The staff are friendly and entertaining and the place looks presentable.
I won't even begin to mention what I found in my food the last time I was there. The kitchen is definitely not cleaned regularly, to put it mildly.
I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone, no matter how I disliked them. Seriously, I would recommend the cockroach filled bean burrito at Taco Bell before I ever mentioned Rosie's. SERIOUSLY.
This place has grown on me over the last several months and I now visit almost weekly since its really the only good and reasonable place to eat in Wilton Manors. The teriyaki burger is killer, the turkey versions are also good. The 'Paul Lynde' salad with chicken and goat cheese is also great. They've got Sam Adams on tap, plus buckets of rum drinks on Saturdays. The wait staff is fast and friendly and there's always a good vibe. Kudos also for having the only outdoors, but still non-smoking, seating section in Fort Lauderdale. The place is mostly LGBT clientele, but is family-friendly in all senses of the word.
We saw their Sunday brunch ad in one of the local gay publications, so we went there for Sunday brunch. I wasn't aware that it used to be Hamburger Mary's. If anything, that just would have stopped me from
going, based on my experiences with the one in West Hollywood.
The food was good, but nothing to write home about. The service was decent. The portions are pretty good for the money.
I think the place is popular beacuse of the eye-candy. Practically, they have a waiter for everyone's type. They're all cute and hot in a way.
I liked it and wouldn't mind going back for another brunch if I'm in the Ft. Lauderdale area.
love it. great campy service. superbly priced. delish menu- something for everyone. great atmosphere
I've met friends here for dinner a couple of times since it became "Rosie's" a few years ago. It always seems to have a laid back atmosphere, good food, the staff is friendly and attentive, you can eat outdoors on the covered patio or inside, at a table or at one of the stools at the bar. One tip is to avoid the valet parking if you plan to leave your vehicle here and move on to another establishment after dinner; This place closes early compared to many of the bars in the area, and so does the valet.
Once known as Hamburger Mary's, Rosie's ,on the North side of Wilton Manors, retained most of Mary's trendiness while loosing some of it's clientele (though they are trickling back). The food is sometimes fresh and sometimes not-so-fresh, depending on what you order.
Both the food and the service seem to have gone up a notch since the name change. The price went up a notch as well.
The outside patio, Rosie's biggest draw, is a great place to enjoy the beautiful South Florida weather and cruise the area locals and visitors alike.
Live music, another draw to the patio area, occurs several days a week, and is usually lively and loud. If you want a quiet night out with the boys (or girls) this is NOT the place to go,,,but if you're in the mood for a mixed drink, a decent burger, and some people-watching, then head to Rosie's !
Rosie's added quite a few new items to their menu in November of 2009, including more "healthy" choices, like veggie and turkey burgers. Both had really good flavor and are highly recommended.
Food: A- (HINT: - order any meat or burgers one level lower than you normally would - the cook tends to overcook the meat. I.E. Like it medium-well? Order it medium instead.)
Price: B+ ( an ok value for the quality )
Service: A- (often a bit slow but waitstaff is friendly and cute - but be sure you get what you ordered and you may have to ask 2 or 3 times for "extras" of anything. )
Atmosphere: A (very trendy - the place to be see and be seen.)
Front End: A ( usually very friendly and helpful )
Location: A (2.6 miles from downtown Ft. Lauderdale)
Valet parking: A (south-side parking lot - valet is recommended - local parking in the area is hard to find)
Overall: A-
I've been there a few times now, for both brunch and dinner. The food is really good...there are a few nice creative touches that you would not expect at a place such as this. Rosie's has a great convivial and breezy atmosphere. The service is attentive and, yes, fun. They must be told to be peppy all the time, bordering on being "Stepford Waiters", but whatever - it works! Probably the best casual dining experience in the Fort Lauderdale area.
My partner and I tried this restaurant for the first time last night. It was a little too loud for our taste, but the waitstaff were very friendly and welcoming. My partner had a cheeseburger, he liked it, and he is very picky when it comes to burgers. I loved my grilled mahi mahi sandwich. We would definitely go back.
The food is really good and overally pricier than other spots within Ft.Lauderale but i believe it is overall worth it. I really like the outdoor seating and the addition of the fans that mist you briefly is a pretty nice touch to keep you cool in that southern florida heat and humidity. However the fans kind of fight against you as well when you're trying to eat and the fans speed is blowing over your lettuce and napkins onto the ground or table next to you.
The waiters are pretty friendly and they will sing along with you to the music.
Don't forget the valet.
Well actually, This place was once named Rosie's then Hamburger Mary's and now back to Rosie's. This was the highest grossing Hamburger Mary's in the country and for good reason.
The food is the good but not great category. Service is usually done with a smile and free valet is a plus. Dont go during peak times as the wait is worse than Cheesecake Factory at 9pm on a Saturday. ***Rosie's does the beeper thing too.***
Lots of cute boys and girls... but its all about the same sex!
