Well, let's just say as a guy I don't really need to have my nails done, but I do get a unibrow often (runs in the family) so I need somebody to wax it off of me!  I am too much of a chicken to do it myself, and forget about plucking!

So, I decided to try out Rose's Nails in Poway, mainly because my mom gets her nails done there.  Of course, like most nail salons it is staffed by the vietnamese, but they speak English!  I was amazed, and they talked English to eachother too!  You know how it can be awkward when you are getting your haircut etc. and they keep talking to each other in their language?  I always wonder what they are saying about me.  Anywayz, I digress.

So, it's a small little shop, but has a nice quaintness to it.  After I told them I needed my eyebrows waxed, they joked around with me a little then took me in the back area where they do it.  The girl who did it was really cute and nice which made me not think about the pain, and she did it so quickly and efficiently that I barely noticed!  After that I paid and went on my way.  It was quick, easy, and only ten dollars!  Definitely a good place for a wax!  I think they offer all kinds of manicures and pedicures too!  Check them out!

I started going to Rose's nails (then it was called Super Nails) 9 years ago when I moved back to Poway.  My sister suggested it as she worked next door at the beauty supply.  The first time I went I was surprised at how friendly all the employees were and after being there for about 15 mins realized more than 1/2 the people there were repaeat customers.  I heard conversations ranging from kids going off to college to a newly divorced 50ish woman talking about her first "date" since her divorce.  Everyone spoke english and was chiming in.  It felt as though you were at a weird family reunion!  Well 9 years later I'm now a part of that weird family reunion and couldn't be happier!  They handle all types of nail and waxing services along with great massage chairs while getting your pedi - at no extra charge!    And they are definatley competitively priced.

A strip-mall nail salon is a strip-mall nail salon is a strip-mall nails salon.  And Rose's Nails is no exception to the rule.  You go here because it's convenient, no reservations needed, and fairly inexpensive.  The ladies working in the salon (for the exception of the 2 perched closest to the front door -- who are hysterical, chatty and very helpful) speak little English, but they keep quiet.  There's no constant chit-chat in a foreign tongue here, so you never feel like they are bad-mouthing your nasty-assed feet.  Prices are reasonable and they do good work.  I've never had to wait to get a spa chair and have always been in and out of there quickly.  I bring my kids in for polish changes and they always accommodate them and try to make it extra fun.  The polka-dot add on ($8) is a favorite splurge.

Let's get this straight:

1) I don't like being around grumpy people- especially on my lunch break.

2) I don't like having to sit for an hour and a half with only an old magazine and a grumpy moon-faced Vietnamese lady to entertain me.

3) I don't like people who handle me roughly. (Okay, that's not totally true. Rough handling is okay in *ahem*  the sack...but certainly not at a nail salon. ) Don't whack my leg when you want me to put it back in the water, you can lightly tap me or just tell me. I understand broken English. I understand subtle gestures. I don't understand your ATTITUDE in the physical form.

4) And finally, I don't tip people who are rude and rough. The manicure and pedicure were average, but the "customer service" would've been gentler if I had been handled by a construction worker.

Go elsewhere. The Asian nail salons are a dime a dozen. This one is very close to work, but I'll drive the extra mile to go somewhere else.
