Update Alert!!!
Since I wrote the review below I have been back to RC a total of 7 times and I have to say they have completely fixed all the "Negatives" and have built on the positives. I've tried the Turkey Ruebin and the Grilled Italian hot sandwiches. AWESOME!!!
The cold sandwiches seem to be made better as well. Consistency has finally come to Rosemary Cafe and I for one and a big fan. I'll be going back once a week for the best sandwiches in Vancouver.
Previous Post:
3 Stars simply because I've had a mix of good and bad service and or food.
Positives: Great consistent cold sandwiches. I love the tuna and the chicken salad. The turkey with cranberry is fantastic as well. Service is always friendly but a little spacey depending on who you get. Grilled sandwiches can be fantastic if the right person makes it however lack of consistency makes me always leery to order one.
Negatives: Service can be spacey, as in Jessica Simpson spacey. 1/2 the time when I order a grilled sandwich they appear to be made without the love necessary to impress me. They rarely have enough meat for a $7.50 sandwich.
That's about it. Try it and make up your own mind. I'm still going back for the cold sandwiches. -

Portland Foodie Expedition Day 11 - Breakfast
This was to be breakfast before I left. I went with the Rents to one of my bookmarks. They were both happy. I liked the food, but the service left little to be desired. Two servers for the whole place that hardly did anything.
I had the RC Breakfast Sandwich: http://www.yelp.com/bi... This sandwich is done Panini Style with Ciabatta and comes with scrambled eggs, choice of cheese (I chose Pepper Jack), and a choice of ham or bacon, but I chose both. I enjoyed this sandwich, but again our server pretty much ignored us. Sad considering I normally love restaurants up here.
Seating comes in the form of regular tables. There are 4 four tops and the restaurant normally has two tops everywhere. The place can get busy, so you might have to wait a bit!Listed in: Portland, OR, Breakfast...

Wandered in early on a Saturday morning to nice little cafe and found the owner, seating person, waiter. cook and cashier to the same person. Larry.
I ordered the Monte Cristo w/ potatoes. Wifey got the french toast.
We ordered coffee and cream and got two huge cups of good coffee along with a cute little cream pitcher of cold half and half. Nice.
Food came soon after. French toast was french bread decently cooked. Syrup was fake and cold. Fake I get, (the real stuff is spendy and I expect to pay more) cold syrup I don't get. Needs to be warm. Came w 2 strips of good bacon.
Monte Cristo was nice. Generous, nicely fried, little layer of cranberries in the middle actually worked nicely.
Potatoes were a bit disappoining. Not hot, Only a bit warm. Needed a bit more sear to them. Seasoned with rosemary (signature dish I was told) but the rosemary was a bit over powering to me. Wifey disagreed with me on that point so I guess it just depends on what you like.
Overall good place in DT Vantuckey. I will go back to try some other dishes. -

I work really close to Rosemary's so a lot of the people I work with suggested it and frequent there. I've only had lunch there but the breakfast menu looks worth trying. My favorite is the Wednesday special that is always grilled cheese and tomato bisque soup. It's really good and worth splurging once in a while. I've had a few of the soups and haven't had any complaints so far. Everyone suggested the chicken salad sandwich and it's definitely one of my favorite menu items. Every time I've been in service has been great, the girls and owner are very friendly.

I go in all the time...but when I went in and decided to use the restroom prior to ordering one of the staff acted like I was a transient trying to use the facilities without being a customer. I didn't appreciate that, but no one's perfect.
I was doing my banking and realized I paid just shy of $10 for 1/2 a sandwich, a pop, and a cookie....the day before I had gone to subway and gotten a foot-long and 3 cookies for $8.39. Ouch. I support local businesses, but that one is a little out of whack price-wise.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Nothing beats Rosemary Cafe for a quick sit down meal! Locally owned, amazing service, and a well prepared, foodie-friendly menu! I eat here whenever I need a meal downtown.

Excellent breakfast burrito, served all day on Saturdays. I order it without olives.

I discovered this little place today; ordered half a chicken salad sandwich -- which was YUMMY! -- another half of a tuna salad sandwich which was okay. I ordered the chicken and dumpling soup, but I felt it needed more flavor. I sprinkled some salt and black pepper on it, but it still needed something. It was cool to see the owner working behind the counter ... The blonde waitress was sweet; the other blonde, who was rearranging the display of baked goods, didn't seem to be having a good day even when my friend and I tried to talk to her. It was just a simple nod in response, but that was it. What a shame. But, she won't stop me from returning for more of their delicious chicken salad sandwich!

Rosemary Cafe is one block away from my work. Because of this, I have been there several times and I am always satisfied with my food. I always get the turkey-berry sandwich, toasted. Mmmm...delicious. Word on the street is that they are known for their chicken salad, but I cannot bring myself to break my ordering cycle. Maybe one day I'll man-up and order the chicken salad sandwich. Aside from delicious sandwiches, they also have some really tasty pastries.
The place is really small and does not feel like a restaurant, but more of a...cafe? Every time I go, there seems to be a pretty steady amount of people enjoying lunch. I'd say it is popular among the 9-5 working folk, like myself. I have never been in on the weekends, but I hear it is not as busy, although I can't speak for the breakfast crowd (which is something else I would like to try). The staff is amazing - they are all so nice and they treat you like family.
Given the 4 stars I dished out, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area, but I would not make the trip from my place in Portland. If there was a Rosemary Cafe in Portland...and near my house...then I would eat here more often. -

If there were half stars, they'd get 4.5. The only reason they lose a half a star is because the tables for two are microscopic! I felt guilty about taking a table for four, for our party of 2, so we were kind of squished.
But onto the food!
Sandwiches here are above par, way above. I had a tuna melt, my standing Tuesday lunch date had the special panini. Both were fabulous, on ciabatta bread; grilled to perfection but not so much that they produced the "cheese grater" effect on the roof of your mouth. Both were accompanied by chips and pickles. I had an Italian soda that was nice, and we shared a really yummy brownie with peppermint crunch on top.
They also have great soups and other sandwiches.
A nice shop, clean, comfortable, but the tables for two could be more user friendly. Also - there is a bar seating area and the assortment of bar stools were positively odd looking. Given that the rest of Rosemary's is so tastefully decorated, one wonders what happened. I'll be back again...maybe for breakfast. -

Thanks to these earlier YeLPer reviews, me and Colleen The Vinyl Queen hopped on I-5 and headed for Vancouver, Washington!
Wow... there we were... Vannnn-Tucky!
It's the first exit or two once you cross the river, follow the signs pointing to "City Center." Take a right on Main Street and there you are, Main Street USA. This could be any small town in America!
Continue up Main Street, look for the huge red KIGGINS movie theatre sign and a couple of doors before that sign, on the corner, you'll find the Rosemary Cafe.
We went on a Saturday around noon and it was very calm and relaxed. There were 2 other tables occupied. They say it's busy on the weekdays.
Do NOT fail to have an Italian Soda. Mine was strawberry, very unique! We both had paninis! Colleen had an excellent tuna melt with very good roast turkey soup. I had their extra special grilled cheese with a small side salad. "Extra special" is not a hype! The check was $20.
Much better quality than you're used to, this is a special place. The quiet vibe of "downtown" Vancouver is way cool too. I kept expecting Andy Griffith, Barney and Aunt Bea to walk in at any moment.
Their breakfast menu is available all day Saturday, til 10:30AM weekdays. They also have a small selection of baked goods on display.
The owner and staff treat you like relatives, excellent, ultra-polite service! -

What a great place for breakfast. We had a very nice breakfast here on our way to the Farmer's Market. I see what someone pointed out about small tables but ours we plenty big enough for our meal. The interior was very nice but I could see it could get a little cozy on a busy day. HOWEVER, don't let that stop you we both think it's worth a try.
We had a breakfast burrito and an everybody's breakfast. Both were quite good. The eggs are not prefab so if your expecting perfectly yellow scrabbled eggs skip this joint. It would appear (and taste!) that these are eggs that were cracked and cooked when we ordered them. The cottage fries are delicious and one of our highest points. The coffee was a little strong for me but then I'm a Folgers fan so my taste in coffee is a little suspect. The cups are very large as well so if you like a strong drip coffee this might be the place to check out.
Our waitress was knowledgeable and helpful. Directing us to items that she thought we might like. Quick with coffee and water she never really missed a beat.
We will certainly be returning. For $15ish including a cup of house coffee how can you go wrong? HUGE POINT: They serve breakfast all day on Saturday!!!!!! That's also why I marked under $10 per person. A fantastic find in downtown Vancouver. Do yourself a favor and skip the chain places and stop in. -

I was downtown Vancouver for a conference and stopped here for lunch. The food was good enough, nothing really of note. Sounds like I may have just ordered the wrong thing.

Good, simple breakfasts and lunches.
It's very, very tight inside...just like it was before it moved. Even with years of waitress experience i kind of have to ponder my path through the place more than i'd like. The chicken salad is to die for, and i'm not even all that fond of chicken salad in general. The omelets are superb, not too cheesy and with properly cooked eggs, and the breakfast burrito is fine.
It's well-priced for breakfast, a trifle dear for lunch. I think this is because the downtown weekday lunch crowd can afford it. Nevertheless, that chicken salad's worth a splurge. -

I have been eating at this place since the day they opened- at least 3 days a week and every time I open the menu and order the same thing- Chicken Salad Wrap with cucumbers. I skip the chips and have a great salad instead. The service is absolutely incredible and they can always satisfy my change up of needs in order to make a happy customer.
I am not one for sweets but when I get my order to go I notice there is a fan club of clients coming in RAVING about the desserts they offer. This place is a MUST for local business and a MUST TRY for newbies in area. Downtown Vancouver is coming back and with quality businesses that take care of their clients like Rosemary Cafe does it will be sooner then later. -

Wow. First the service was outstanding. I was helping some vendors at Art in the Heart. When the people behind the counter heard I was they offered to deliver our meals. That is quality service! I ordered the chicken salad and I have to say it IS the best I've ever had. The combonation of the pineapple, cranberries, onions, almond, chicken and herbed mayo were outstanding. Other folks ordered the eat your veggies sandwich and the Monte Cristo - raves all around.

Excellent sandwich shop. I've tried the panini and a veggie sandwich, both were great. A little pricey for lunch, but still a great option for downtown Vancouver.

sandwich was pretty tasty but was mostly bread. Could really have used more meat and veggies.

Rosemary Cafe has absolutely the best tomato bisque in the world. Absolutely. Hands down. The best. But they only serve it on Wednesdays.
Being mostly-vegetarian (and hating cream cheese - why do so many restaurants insist on putting cream cheese on all their vegetarian sandwiches?), there isn't really much else on the menu I'm willing to try. So I just keep coming back on Wednesdays for the tomato bisque and grilled cheese special. -

Expensive for average sandwhiches! We walked into this place and it had a nice feel to it. It was comfortable and a nice place to take a date and just talk. We ordered two drinks and had a couple sandwhiches and couldn't believe that the price was over $20 dollars! These sandwhiches were something I could have made for a lot cheaper. The worst part was the crust around my sandwhich was stale and hard. They came out on a bed of "kettle" chips that were probably bought from Safeway. If you are a looking for a nice place that is casual and comfortable to take a date I highly recommend this place but be prepared to shell out some money. Overall not a bad place but definitely not great. Save your money and go to Subway.

One of my top 3 favs in Downtown Vancouver. "The Best Chicken Salad Sandwich" truly is! Almonds, cranberries with a creamy sauce. Yum. However, Rosemary is not inexpensive and since they've moved to the larger location, the feeling is more of a "restaurant" than a "sandwich cafe" thus compelling you to tip and increasing the price another 15%. The food is excellent, however I don't like spending $11 for lunch after tax and tip.

My wife and I stopped there for lunch after buying beer from "By the Bottle" around the corner.
We were pleasantly surprised by the incredible tase of our paninni sandwiches. I had an Flavored Almond Italian soda. We sat under the umbrella outside, the food and atmosphere were great. We will go back.
While there just 30 yards away was the theater, 2 movies back to back for 4 bucks.
