Review from Brad S.
Classic Chicago steakhouse, in motif, service, and (most importantly) food. The decor is dark and woody; the vibe is bustling power-dinner. What's nice is that there actually appears to be a nice mix of older businessmen, young up-and-comers, and regulars.
The food was delicious, my scallops were perfectly seared, with a delicious sauce and seasonal vegetables. The wine list was very nice, with a good variety of prices and varietals.
My only complaint is that the bar is a little tight and loud. -

The problem with this restaurant, they keep changing management. It appears every six months new managers. Managers seem smarmy! The same wait staff which are great, the bar staff Mike is wonderful! The hostess they are always changing also, we are locals just get good staff and train properly.
Food is good, doversole I love at Rosebud.
I just ordered take out one appetizer took 45 minutes. It was a crab cake delicious but way to long a wait. I use to love this place, they had it right two years ago. Fix it please! -

I am not a big fan of lamb but the Osso Bucco with Gnocchi was so good I was really impressed. My friend order the lamb chops which he absolutely loved. We shared an order of the Lobster Mac and Cheese.
Service was excellent and everything we ordered was delicious. -

Unfortunately, our last vacation night in Chicago was not the best.
We had reservations at 8pm and were immediately seated. Our waiter Tom was very nice but was operating at a different pace than we were expecting in a fine steak house. We weren't given time to sit down, relax, look at the menu, talk about some things. He wasn't being rude - but it did seem like maybe he had somewhere to go. Unfortunately he was going to have to stick around for a bit...
The old fashioned and dirty martini were very well done. Tom then suggested a few Cabs from the the wine list and I took him up on the Cafaro - which was also very good. We split a chopped salad that was a little healthier take on the standard - lots of lettuce, spinach, carrots, garbanzo, artichoke hearts and a few other veggies lightly tossed in a vinaigrette. Again - well executed.
For the main course - my girlfriend got the bone in filet, and I got the New York strip. Both Medium Rare. On the side we got truffle tater tots and green beans.
Now here's where the steak train comes off its meaty tracks. If there is one thing a high priced top notch steak place should be able to do is cook a steak.
The steaks arrived and the waiter had us cut into them to make sure they were cooked correctly. Both of them were medium well heading toward well. We are not usually the type of people to send things back, but for the price of the steak we felt it should be done to order. New steaks on the way...
Steak Round #2 comes out. The first thing I notice is that it is heavily charred on the outside. I cut into mine - it is cooked well to a depth of 2mm and then raw in the middle. My girlfriend has a 4" bone in filet that is cooked the same way - but with a 4" steak (compared to my 1" strip) the raw is going to be very raw. And it was. Not just raw. Blue.
So we both send them back.
Now unlike the last time they are working with 2 - split down the middle steaks that need to be fired to medium rare. Should be easy to cook steaks medium rare now that you can see the inside right? The steaks are again brought back, and we both cut into another part of the steak. And just like last time - more char on the outside with no change of temperature in the middle.
By this time we have the waiter, the sous chef, and the manager at our table trying to figure out what is going on - and to be honest at this point it's embarrassing for everyone. And we just want to run away at this point - so we all agree to give up on the filet and we will just re-fire my strip and split it. Again - to medium rare. And again, it is brought out with even more char with the internal temperature being the exact same - rare.
Team Rosebud comes over to ask how it is this time - and I have to be honest with them. Charred on the outside, rare on the inside. I ask if maybe the fire got too hot tonight which is causing these cooking issues. That question is greeted with silence and an offer to cook it one more time. We say "no thank you", cut off the charred edges of the $45 strip steak to at least have some rare edible bits, and proceed to eat what pretty much amounts to a $180 wine, tater tot and green bean meal.
In their defense, they tried to make it right. They probably would have stayed there all night cooking steak after steak if we has asked. But after try #2 the meal was ruined and it was time to throw in the proverbial Towel Mignon. They did only charge us for the one steak we ate, and then comped dessert and one martini.
Who knows what happened last night but I thought I would share. But what I do know is there are too many good steak places in Chicago (and the world) to make this kind of error. Probably won't be back but if this is a growing trend with the restaurant maybe this post will keep you from making the same mistake. -

Ate here last night (Saturday) with my husband.
I'll just start with the negatives and get it over with, so here are the reasons I'm not giving 5 stars: We were seated at a table meant for 4 and it was directly along the path for the waitors/bus boys/bread basket people/hostesses/managers/everyone who had a seat in the back of the restaurant or had to go to the bathroom. Our table was run into 3 separate times, to the point where the table shifted and we had to move it back into place. Also knocking down to four because the noise level was very high in the restaurant the entire time. It felt like we were shouting and everyone else around us was shouting. And lastly, there were children there. To me, any place where there are big knives, white table clothes, and no children's menu = no children allowed.
Here are the positives: We had 7 pm reservations and we were seated immediately. The staff was very attentive. We were brought a bread basket and it was one of the best bread baskets I have ever enjoyed. There were 7 total different breads and the buttery spread was delish. Our waitor politely answered all our questions and was up front about the sides/salads being big enough to share, so that we didn't over-order. We did order the tator tots for an app because of the reviews here saying they were amazing. We will skip them next time. They were ok but I didn't wet my pants over them. The order was def big enough for 4 people to share. I did however wet my pants over the eggplant caprese salad that we split as a side to our entrees. It was definitely big enough for 2 peope to share and we both thought it was super fresh and tastey. For entrees, my husband ordered the skirt steak and I ordered the lobster mac and cheese. My husband raved about his steak. I really did like the lobster mac and cheese because it was oozing with cheese, but I was so stuffed from the bread basket, tater tots, and eggplant caprese salad that I had to force myself to eat it any of it. The timing of the food being brought to us was perfect, we didn't feel rushed and we also didn't feel like we were kept waiting too long. Our glasses of water were fequently replenished, and our dirty plates were removed promptly so that our small table didn't feel cluttered. As far as decor, it was standard steak house, dim lighting, white table clothes, dark wood. In my opinion lighting was perfect, light enough just to the point where I could still read the menu without squinting.
If we are back in the neighborhood we will return, but ask to be seated where we won't be bumped into. -

Simply one of the best steaks I have ever had in my life! It was perfectly cooked! The breads were great. The salad was so fresh! The mac and cheese was so good and some of the best I ever had! Its a meal in itself! Warning its so rich you most likely wont be able to eat most of it. We came one night with a party of 6 while in Chicago for Business. It was so good, that we came back the very next night! Simply the best steakhouse that I have ever been! When ever I go back to Chicago I will make sure to stop here!

We coordinated the perfect steak house dinner at Rosebud. Friday night: Share everything - 1 Bottle of Justin Cabernet Sauvignon; 1 cup of NE Clam Chowder; 1 8oz bone in filet medium rare; sautéed asparagus, bacon & cheddar mashed potatoes. Dessert elsewhere. Total bill just north of $100.
Our server was awesome. Many steakhouse waiters are too pretentious and hardcore salesmen. Our server was very attentive and supportive of our shared meal. He split out steak into six strips for us upon delivery.
We had a perfect size meal. It was delicious, filling and best of all no leftovers. I would go back here on any visit to Chicago even if was already set to go to Chicago Chop House, Gibsons or somewhere else known for large bills.
Thank you Rosebud for a great dinner!
This was another "Open Table Reservation" success. -

Was taken here as part of a group;. You know how steakhouses always seem to be the choice for big groups...seems they have something for everyone.
Rosebud did not disappoint. It was a great atmosphere, good food, good wine selection and good dessert choices.
Coming here in a group or just as a couple, it is worth the visit. -

Perhaps I have an iron deficiency or am not eating enough red meat lately because I am having flashbacks of the greatest steaks of my life and this place was one of the places that came up.
It has that great old classic Chicago feeling and the giant juicy meat and portions to go with it. The lighting is dim and it has a cozy intimate feeling. It'd be great for a date or one on one meal and the food is great. I can't wait to go back when I'm in town -

i got the ribeye. it was freaking good. i like how they give you the bone and bone marrow....i've never had bone marrow, so i'm not sure what it's really supposed to be like. is it supposed to taste like fat and look like oily snot? if so, then it was spot-on. the steak was cooked to perfection, and was a good size. when i visited Argentina, we starting joking about getting the "meat sweats" in reference to one's body working overtime trying to digest the huge bolus of meat. i got a flashback of that this evening.
the mixed salad was good, although it would have been nice to be warned about the jalapeno in there. i always like to balance out my meal with some greens...it's a Californian thing, right?
ummm, let's talk about the tater tots....truffle oil and parmesan. crispy and freaking tasty. so, so good. that homeless guy that i gave my leftovers to was pretty stoked, i'm sure.
the white chocolate coconut cake was good too.
wow, i just realized how much food i ate....oink. -

You're going to drop a lot of money here, so be forewarned.
Rosebud Steakhouse feels like a throwback restaurant. A guy opens the door for you. The waiters wear tuxes. The menus are brief, but adhered to a heavy board as if to say, "Look, you're here for steak and we all know it. And if you can't lift this menu, just get the hell out."
I ordered the New York strip steak. My date ordered the brick chicken. We also ordered the truffle and parmesan tater tots.
The steak was okay, but the tater tots were completely amazing. Today, I find myself craving more of the $8.50 tots, while feeling blasé about the $39.95 steak. Wha?
A nice thing about the tater tots is that you get a ton of them, so there would be enough for maybe three people in the one order.
The atmosphere is odd. Most everything is shrouded in dark wood, like a set from "The Godfather." It was crowded and bustling on a Tuesday night. An older crowd. There were plasma TVs showing a basketball game, but no one seemed to be looking at them. (They're placed so high that you would have to make a deliberate head adjustment to see them.) And very faintly, above the dull roar of the diners, I could hear pop music playing. Neither the TVs nor the music seem to fit the rest of the vibe of the restaurant. Are you trying to be old school cool or an upscale sports bar or what?
Our total bill at the end of the night was around $100 (before tip). On the plus side, it was a ton of food. But we only had one glass of wine each. And other than the tater tots, I wasn't blown away. Didn't ask my date how she liked her chicken, but she did take it home with her.
I liked Rosebud and I might even go back someday. But for what you're spending, you want an amazing experience. I'd rather go to Texas de Brazil, spend the same amount and be blown away.
Although I may have to make a return trip just for those tater tots... -

We had a fantastic experience. Great food in generous portions. Great service with passion for the food. Great neighborhood feel and cozy vibe. The spinach salad with goat cheese and pecans was fresh and tasty, I had the "Fire Cracker Pork Chops" which were amazing with a sauce that I lapped up with some of the tasty bread that was offered. Our waiter said that the sauce can be added to other meats if we liked. Next time I might have it over the chicken. Can't wait to go back!

Rosebud basically does everything well, and their Steakhouse is no exception. This is one of the better steak joints for locals in the city. I'd say top 5 actually. You don't get too many tourists (Ruth Chris), and you don't get the obnoxious see and be seen crowd (i.e. Gibson's) that someplaces have. Don't be surprised though if you run into a local celebrity trying to have a nice quiet evening dining.
Food:
My steak on Friday was cooked to perfection, and had a small dollop of butter on top. You want it with peppercorns though, you got it. You want it crusted with blue cheese, you got it. Plenty of options if you need a little shake up. The sides are huge as is the case with most steak joints these days, so don't get more than one for every two people. I always start with the lettuce wedge with blue cheese and bacon. My wife usually orders their "Brick Chicken". They must season it with crack, because its the only chicken that makes me want to order it instead of steak. If you come for lunch, they have a fantastic burger. Definitely Top 10 in the city.
Service:
The waiters are very friendly. Expect the manager will come by and say hello. If something isn't to your liking, let them know and they'll replace it. Come a few times and they will remember your name.
Wine List:
They have an excellent selection of wine. It must be because of the Rosebud name. Prices are reasonable and they have a good mix of European and American.
Value:
I think you may get the best value for the amount of food you get at any steakhouse in the city. The 18 oz. NY Strip is enough for two, and costs less than several other places that serve 16 oz strips.
Desert:
I have no comment, because i usually feel like i am going to explode by the time i am done with my steak, and have no room for even a mint.
Rosebud gets 4.5 stars -

Had dinner here tonight. They are located right across the street from our hotel so I thought we would give them a try.
Started off with their mini-burgers as an appetizer. They were prepared medium-rare, the beef was good quality and they had the proper proportions of meat to bun. The burgers were topped with caramelized onions, bread and butter pickle, cheddar cheese, and a mild sauce that is sort of their version of the Big Mac sauce. They were quite good - I'd like to give their full sized burger a try in the future.
Next, we had a salad. I had the beefsteak tomato salad and the wife had their spinach salad with warm bacon dressing. The tomatoes in my salad were ripe and flavorful. They were drizzled with balsamic vinegar and olive oil and topped with red onions and a chiffonade of basil. The onions were a little strong but everything else was perfect.
My wife didn't enjoy her salad as much as I did. She was expecting a more traditional spinach salad. Instead, their salad was topped with strawberries and goat cheese. It was good just not quite what she was expecting.
For the main course I had their bone-in ribeye steak. The wife ordered a filet mignon and we shared a side of au gratin cauliflower and bacon cheddar mashed potatoes. My steak was slightly over cooked but it tasted great so I really didn't have a complaint. It was well aged and flavorful and came with a side beef bone filled with marrow. The wife's steak was properly cooked and she really enjoyed it. As expected, it wasn't as flavorful as the ribeye but it was tender and a good cut. The sides were served family style and tasted good. The cauliflower probably could have used a little more seasoning but was still very good.
Finally, we shared a bread pudding for desert. It was quite what I was expecting. The bread had a good texture and it held up well. The part I wasn't expecting was that it was filled with chocolate and what I believe were dried cherries. It also came with a side of vanilla gelato. Overall it was a pleasant surprise and I would eat it again.
The service was as you would expect. We had no problems here and were pleased with how we were treated. I was a bit surprised at how casual the customers were dressed. Over half of the place was dressed in very casual football jerseys. It didn't take away from our dinner but it did seem a little strange. -

Rainy Friday night. 9pm. Got seated immediately. Amazing bread basket with honey butter.
Beers. 2 burgers, fries, and onion rings. Dessert.
Onion rings were freaking massive. Came out piping hot and nicely crispy, with an amazing warm BBQ dipping sauce.
Burgers were big, perhaps a touch overcooked than what we ordered, but delicious nonetheless. Fries were pretty good as well.
Good dessert selection. We went with the Key lime pie. Nice and tart, creamy, refreshing!
Service was great.

Everyone had a good time. I had a good time even though, on a good day, there's almost nothing I can eat in a steakhouse. And this wasn't a good day.
But everyone else at dinner came hungry, sober, and stupefied and left full, tipsy, and loud. So Rosebud must have done something right.
I thought the service was indifferent, but otherwise have no complaints. -
Review from Hoang L.
Don't come here if you're still in your 20's because you're going to be treated like you don't belong there. Either our waiter had a bad day, or he had a feeling that we were young and cheap. He never came to check up on us.
The only reason Rosebud even gets 2-stars (and not 1-star) is because the filet mignon and scallops were decent. A bit pricey if you asked me, but it was a special occasion for us.
We couldn't finish our the filet mignon, so we asked for them to wrap it up for us. Later that night, I wanted to finish my steak and found a piece of chicken instead. Hmmm... Thanks for giving me someone else's half eaten food. Gross.
This place is for old people who won't notice if you bring home other people's food. Rest assure, I will never be back in this life time. -

More like 3.5 stars for me. I like the warm library look and the service was good. Unfortunately I ordered a bone in filet medium and they sent it our still mooing. It was cold in the center and I almost coughed it up in the middle of our table. Its so dark in there I couldnt see how red the meat was. Anyway they refired it and it was a little better but the steak lost all its juice when I did that. Sides and apps were fantastic and I would definitely go again but I have to ask for medium well maybe.

Choose to dine at Rosebud based on a number of positive http://Yelp.com reviews and they were all right on. Steaks are delicious, excellent explanations of each dish from our friendly server, mac'n'cheese was fantastic, wine prices aren't too bad. Highly recommended.

I may be getting carried away with my 5-star reviews lately, but I have to give credit where credit is due. Rosebud was a very pleasant surprise when my gf took me there to celebrate my b-day a few months ago. I knew we were going to a steakhouse for dinner, but didn't know which one.
When we arrived at Rosebud, it wasn't even on my steakhouse radar, as I had researched most of the Chi steakhouse staples. As a result, I was a little skeptical that this place could ascend me to the thresholds of carnivore-heaven, but Rosebud definitely delivered on that front. The bone-in filet was fantastic, and was actually reasonably priced for that cut. But oddly enough, their appetizers were what really blew me away, particularly their creamed-spinach, which I still dream about today. Best creamed-spinach I have ever had.
The service was solid, atmosphere was lively, and the food was fantastic. And although dining at a quality steakhouse is never cheap, I really felt like we got the most bang for our buck at Rosebud. I've paid more at some of the better-known Chi steakhouses, and left feeling underwhelmed by the steak. Not so at Rosebud, they deliver the goods where it matters most: my tastebuds. -

A coworker told us about the AMAZING $5 burgers here ..so a small group decided to try it at lunch.
First, Rosebud..serving $5 burgers ? Is it really true?
YES! For lunch-M-F, 11a-3p, $5 burgers AND fries. Best hidden (well not anymore!) secret!
They do charge you $1 or $1.25 for the cheese, but so what!
They also serve bread & Olive oil beforehand.
This burger was giant AND served on a pretzlel roll! Yummmm...
Wasn't too busy during lunch ..so it's doable. So that's why I took away a star, as we had to ask for refills of water.
BUT still - worth it - GO! -

Went here after winning a gift certificate. Typically if we go out to steak we do Ruth's Chris, the Husband's favorite. We were both very happy with rosebud though! We got a ceasar salad (good, but lots of anchovies). We split the ribeye and the burger and got the truffle tater tots. The burger actually came with fries also, so we had a bit of potato overload and overall a TON of food. The burger lived up to the hype and the steak was delicious. Everything was cooked perfectly. Drinks were good, and the bartender made a great dirty martini.
I do agree with the previous reviewer about the waitstaff being a little demeaning to younger people, I believe I was referred to as "kid," always a littler weird when you are wearing a wedding ring. -

Came here on a Saturday night. Very easy to make a reservation and we were seated right away. We were seated in the back of the restaurant, which was fine. It was quiet crowded.
I honestly can't remember what I ordered, so it must not have been that great. The man got blacked steak and said it wasn't all that fantastic either. Probably not worth the money. -

Middle of the road to me. Too expensive for the taste. Probably won't be returning here, I knew I should have gone with Chicago Cut Chophouse (haven't been there yet!) but I have a feeling I will like it better.
On top of that we had to wait a while for our reservation. No elbow room! -

If you don't wish to read my whole rant here's the abridged version:
From what I saw and what I received, this restaurant CAN offer a great meal and experience, assuming you are over 21. I am not, and this was the worst experience I had ever had at a restaurant and the meal was sub-par, not even worth a quarter of its price. If my age (perhaps the minimal tips that are often associated with younger-aged individuals, the simple fact that we were not going to be ordering alcoholic beverages, or our assumed minimal verbal impact) played a role then I am incredibly disappointed. I will only recommend going anywhere else but here. The city is vast, don't waste your decision on this place, unless perhaps you're over 21 then go ahead and take the risk.
OK now for the full thing:
My girlfriend and I were in Chicago for just one night after visiting my niece in Wisconsin. I have been to the city a few times before, however, this was my girlfriend's first, so I wanted her to enjoy it as much as possible. I had heard incredible reviews for this place from my dad, his coworkers and others, so I had no hesitancy in booking a reservation at this restaurant right next to our hotel (The Drake)!
We got there around 7:50 for 8:00 reservations and were offered to either sit at the bar or wait outside, this is where the evening already turned into one of the worst we've had in a long time.
My girlfriend and I are not 21, so sitting at the bar was not an option (legally at least), so we chose to wait outside.
Upwards of half an hour later (20 minutes late for a reservation) we get seated in an unlit table right next to the cashier station and the doors to the kitchen, obviously the worst seats in the whole restaurant. We then waited another 10 minutes or so until we were poured water, and another 10 until we even saw our waiter. I wish I could remember his name (as I've thrown away the receipt by now..) but he did not introduce himself, ask us how we were doing (or anything you would expect and receive even from a waiter at Denny's) let alone what we would like to eat. He just stood there and waited for one of us to start talking. So I started, and halfway through my order, he excuses himself and heads over to another table and delivers some other customers' food. I watched as he even cut another customer's steak and talked with the whole table. I was pretty irritated at this point but we decided to wait it out. About 5 minutes later he decides to return, once again, speechless. We finish our orders and that is the last we see of him for the next hour or so. We get our steaks delivered by a bus boy (which I would not have had ANY issue with except we had the pleasure of watching our WAITER deliver other peoples' food, and then relax by the bar while our food was given to us). The busboy was fairly pleasant. I ordered my steak rare and my girlfriend medium rare, and never before have I had such a beautiful piece of meat be so dry and bland. The only service we received for the duration of our meal was by the same busboy that delivered our food and a random waiter who happened to see our veins bulging out of our foreheads and the steam coming from our ears. Our waiter of course returns to hand us our check and finally say the first thing he's said to us all night: "Have a good evening." I have never received such horrible treatment in a restaurant before. It would not even has been so offensive if he did not cater to everyone else's little whims and completely ignore our existence. For the first time in my life I gave a waiter no tip (as my brother was a bellboy during college and through his stories the importance of tips became rather personal) and I gave the busboy that actually gave us service his tip personally while our waiter watched on. The meal came out to around $80, the steaks were not worth more than $20 total.
I was ready to unleash hell upon the manager when my level-headed girlfriend decided if we did that it'd take more time and waste our only night there in Chicago. Instead we went up to the top of John Hancock Tower and then had dessert at Cheesecake Factory where the service was phenomenal. That was the only thing that saved our evening from turning into one incessant complaint.
Next time I come here I will NEVER return. I assume it's because of our age, but even then, I've never received such rude treatment from anyone in a restaurant. I strongly suggest you save yourself the misery and go anywhere else or skip the meal and go sightseeing! The city is too beautiful to have it ruined by one horrid restaurant. -

aww yelpers, you let me down on this one! Ihad passed this location for years and I had always wanted to try it. The BF and I have had a busy week with the family so we had a free (and quiet night) to ourselves. We decided to splurge on date night and since he likes steak I wanted to surprise him with reservations at RB. (plus: made resv on Open Table and got the time I wanted)
Dinner started out welll, nice small intimate table for two tucked in the corner of the restaurant, bread basket with honey butter-yum! who would have thought??
the remainder of the meal was uninspiring
Cobb Salad-large enough to split for two, it tasted more like coleslaw with the shredded lettuce, beets, carrots, hearts of palm and chick peas and vinagrette dressing
Lobster Bisque was overly salted
Creamed spinach had a large amount of bacon which was overwheming to the dish
Mac and Cheese-I have had better chedder cheese and since they bake it to finish it off, the top was dry
Chicago Style Bone in Ribeye- although the steak was cooked to our exact request, my BF and I agree that we have had better flavored steaks
Very disappointed, service was attentive in the beginning of the meal and tapered off. -

I have had multiple experiences here, all unforgettable.
Experience 1.) Had dinner here with a girlfriend and some random guy we met at Pippin's. He offered to take us to dinner. Whatever! We were hungry and were able to order whatever we wanted. Great wine selection and amazing bread. Perfect service. The guy we were was actually a good conversationalist so that helped. To be honest, this was a while ago, and I can't remember what I ordered. I just remember thinking WOW that was good.
Experience 2.) Had dinner here again with a couple of friends. I had the white fish, AMAZING. Dripping in butter sauce, and sooo much food. My girlfriend had the chicken, which was enough for 10 people and maybe the best chicken we all ever had. Tim had the fish and chips special which was okay...
Experience 3.) Went here for a farewell date for supposedly the best burger in Chicago. I didn't have the best time, because my then boyfriend was being a d-bag. I ate my fries first, which apparently ticked him off. I ate half my burger, and my god it was heaven. They made it as rare as possible... mmmm. I took the rest home (apparently a no no in high class restaurants, but oh well). I ate the second half later, in the privacy of my own apartment and never met a burger I wanted to dance with until then. It was the best burger I ever had.
I dream of a time I am able to afford to come here on my own, buy up a bunch of burgers, and dance the night away in my apartment. SO DARN GOOD.
I do not recommend being younger and going there with older men. You will get snide looks from the geezers who live in Drake Terrace. Do come for the food and eat EVERYTHING! -

Beware, unless you are a regular or even worse, a group of all women don't expect to be shown to a good table. The excuse you'll be given is that all the good tables have a "standing reservation". Your reservation obviously doesn't matter.
So if you don't mind sitting in back by the kitchen then you'll have a decent steak dinner.
Enjoy. -

Hubs: Didn't I tell you? We're going to the Xs for dinner tonight - the ones in Streeterville?
Me: (Silence)
Hubs: I know I mentioned this.
Me: (Silence)
Hubs: Hello?
Me: I'm here. And you know I calendar taking a sneeze.
Hubs: Let's move forward here, eh? I'm on my way to you now.
Me: Bloody well right. Contact your favourite chef and order up a side dish for pick up. See you at the Xs at 6.
*click*
....15 seconds later...(phone ring)
Me: Yes?
Husband: Did you just hang up on me?
Me: I was moving forward.
Husband: Ha. Well...this is going to be a holiday dinner since we're leaving town, so let's call Rosebud and order up a side to go. The one on Walton?
Me: Indeed, I know it.
So we get on a three way call and decide to get the macaroni and cheese....the dish many love, but are too embarrassed to admit they eat cold from the refrigerator at 2am. It was, of course, a hit.
And why not? Rosebud is an attractive and robust steakhouse which aims to please. The crowds speak to this. They even allowed me to coax them out of a pretzel roll, which I ate as we strolled to our destination.
The staff that is, not the crowd... -

I hate giving 5 stars to a steakhouse because the expectation level is so high. Unfortunately my brainstorming just can't uncover anything to take it down to a 4 star experience.
* Beautiful room
* Great dining company
* Excellent wine list
* Bone-in filet was the best ever...the mushroom sauce sublime
* The prawn entree was huge and delicious
* The sides were beautifully prepared
* The wedge salad was cold and brought a tear to my eye
* Took a bath in the tomato bisque..gorgeous Mandy fell in love with the soup!
* Those that desserted were smiling
The other Rosebud restaurants are OK. Morton's and Gibson's are great but I think Rosebud Steakhouse wins on food. (I will admit that the bar area in Gibson's is a better experience) Next time in Chicago, you must go to this restaurant.Listed in: This Place is Dead Anyway.

The only reason they didn't get a five is they screwed up our takeout order and gave us the wrong salad. Wifey and I ordered a Filet Mignon for our last night in the hospital at Prentice Women's Hospital. Wifey lost a lot of blood during delivery of our baby and the doctor said her iron was low. She recommended eating red meat, so I walked a few blocks and picked up a delicious steak from Rosebud. We also ordered the bacon and cheese mashed potatoes, so good!
We were particularly excited about the lettuce wedge as we had the wedge from Rosebud 4 years ago the night before we left on our honeymoon. Since that time we talk about the lettuce wedge at Rosebud and how other wedges don't stack up. We were sooooo disappointed when we opened the carryout bag and found a chopped salad.
We'll be back sometime soon to try the wedge and I'll update if it's as good as I remember. -

The same vendors as all the other great steak houses only a little quieter and with a little less chaos. Warm friendly place located just down the street from the Westin Michigan Ave practically guarantees a MLB player enjoying dinner or cocktails during the baseball season.
World class service and very high quality meats. Excellent NY Strip, filet and veal chops. Traditional sides, again, the big portions. Really nice sized salads, suitable for sharing and no one will stare daggers at you if you ask.
Desserts are okay, nothing earth shattering. Wine list is really top notch but I have to say, this place screams "classic cocktail" when you walk in the door. I always want a martini or a Kir Royale. -

Having been to Rosebud Prime last year for lunch and Carmines often, I know my experience today is not indicative of their brand's norm, however today marked thee worst dining experience I have had in a long time. When the service is bad, fine... just ask for a new waitress. But when the food is bad, and unimaginative, what do I do? Ask for a different chef?
I came in for lunch excited about the lamb chops, as I've had them before at prime. The waitress returned with two well done (supposed to be medium) measly lamb chops on a dirty, stained plate in a puddle of au jus. How the hell is that supposed to be mouth-watering!? Its like the steak on the garbage can lid analogy that Bill Cosby gave on his show back in the day. I like steak, but I don't want it on the lid of an old garbage can. Today's lamb chop was that!
Next, the mac and cheese... should be spelled MacNCheeze on the menu. It taste like it was a Kraft Macaroni and Cheeze Eazy Mac. It wasn't baked. And the cheeze was more Velveeta or Kraft soft Cheeze Wiz, than actual cheese. It was God awful. I took two bites and pushed it as far away from me as I could. I thought to send it back, but chances are, the chef knew he sent Eazy Mac out to my table before I did! So what was the use?
Rosebud, I am very disappointed. Thanks for ruining my lunch experience. -

I'm a sucker for a good cheeseburger... and Rosebud Steakhouse has one of the best and most easily accessible cheeseburgers in Chicago. The quality of the meat and the pretzel bun cannot be beat. I recommend getting the aged cheddar on the burger, and bacon if you're in the mood!
Unlike Kuma's, DMK and several of the other great cheeseburgers in Chicago, you can get a reservation for Rosebud Steakhouse. I live within walking distance, so whenever I get the craving for a great cheeseburger, I enjoy being able make a reservation and conveniently walk in for my burger without a wait. -

My far the best steakhouse I've ever eaten at. From the service to the ambiance to the food itself, everything was perfection. Granted it's really expensive but I was being wined and dined by family friends and I took full advantage of it.
I had the petite filet which was a perfect size (and I ate every last bite). It was cooked perfectly and alone it would have been enough but when I slathered it with a side of mushrooms and onions, it was even more divine. The sides were great too -- yummy mashed potatoes, perfectly cooked brocolli and peas. Everyone else at the table raved about their steak (the cajun style was a big hit).
Also important - the second my drink got even a little bit close to getting empty the waitress was always there ready to ask for a refill. The staff treated us all extremely well and we felt very taken care of. A great place!!Listed in: My weekend trip to Chicago

This is one of my parents favorite restaurants. They call this place "Baby Rosebud." Is that a generally accepted nickname, or just my parents making stuff up? Either way, it's hard to find this Rosebud in the phonebook... which is unfortunate because it's really small and completely crowded on weekend nights so you need a reservation. The majority of the crowd is locals from the neighborhood, according to the P's, which is better than wading through the tourists that crowd most of the restaurants in Streeterville.
It's not really a chore to have to wait for your table at the bar. The bartenders are the really chummy, older male, professional type that you see at cool old school restaurants like this and they're fun to talk to. The same goes for the waiters. That, combined with the woody, dark atmosphere give Rosebud the clubby atmosphere you're looking for when you go out for a steak. It's the kind of place where you assume they've got a table reserved for Sinatra or Hugh Hefner, because they might stop in that night.
The steaks (and pretty much the rest of the menu) are outstanding. The portion sizes are the kind that makes you double take when the food hits the table. My dad's crab legs were literally stretching over the sides of the huge plate. If I met that animal alive, I'd fear for my life. The girlfriend's veal milanese was enough to provide both of us with the leftovers (which is good since I'm such a pig at steakhouses that I'm able to consume twice my weight, leaving me with nothing the next day). On Saturday nights, they have a prime rib special that looks like a Fred Flintstone steak. Honestly, it must be an inch and a half thick.
In a city that boasts the best steakhouses in the world, Baby Rosebud definitely holds its own. -
