When the roomies and I are hungover on a sunday and are too lazy to drive Rose Garden always comes through to save the day.
We order delivery here regularly.. Credit card minimums are $15, and after your first order you get these coupons that is good for a free appetizer or fried rice when you spend $25.. score!!
The food is pretty good, portions are hefty, and the price doesn't break your bank.. that's a winner in my book.
This place is good! everything is fresh and tasty. The prices are good, and of course its not 5 star dinning but its good in portion and pipping hot! I think you should give it a shot... its only 5.00 for lunch and you get soup, a wonton apptz, rice and a entree now thats a deal!
I called for delivery on a lazy Sunday, and shot from the hip without a menu. We tried the veggie egg rolls, which were good, standard egg rolls, and based on the positive reviews, the fried crab-cheese puffs, which were gross. The imitation crab flavor was overwhelming with a sweet cream cheese mix, yuck. The chicken won ton soup had good flavor, fresh veggies and tasty won tons. Standard chicken fried rice went well with my Sriracha. Quick delivery and relatively inexpensive prices. I now have a menu along with coupons to use when I'm being too lazy to cook or go out to get something.
I have been to Rose garden restaurant a few times with my partner and each time the food has been good, if not awesome. Almost everything is about five to seven dollars and the plates come stacked really high. There is an really good selection of vegan/vegetarian foods and this means you can bring your friends no matter what they eat.
The vegetable deluxe has a bit too much garlic but everything else that's vegan is yummy. The kung poa tofu with peanuts is really good and sticky. the vegetable chow mein is good and the szechwan dishes come highly reccomended by yours truly. For the omnivores double down on the chicken and duck if your feeling more carnivorous at lunch time, (I dare you to eat it all). I really think that there lunch specials are the best around all of San Leandro and maybe even the east bay.
If you like all types of Chinese food and foods that are cheap and delicious I can't come up with a better local spot than Rose garden. Their soups are a little iffy and some things are hit and miss, but once you find a favorite dish and come by here for lunch... you'll be coming back more often than you might venture to guess. Plus delivery is free with a $15 order!
CHAD
For those nights where you don't feel like cooking or getting out of your house to grab some food..this place is perfect!!! YAY for Chinese food takeout and delivery!! hehe Prices are cheap and portions are huge! I ordered
Chicken Chow Fun- it was ok...I had better..I wish there were more veggies in it and the noodles didn't stick together so much.
Shrimp Won-ton Soup- Was delish! The broth was tasty and the won-tons were meaty
Fried crab cheese puffs- they were good but not HELLA good..my only gripe is that the onions were too big..and where was the crab? All I tasted was onions and cream cheese.
Lemon Chicken- HMMM this is probably the best I've ever had! No joke! Usually when I get this anywhere else the batter is all I see and a small lump of chicken So I never order it but my gf wanted to try it out and I was very surprised. Just the right amount of lemon to it too.
All came out to 26 dollars not including tip! It fed 4 people and we still have leftovers for one more night! Very quick too! Definitely going to order from them again
Love this place. Went there for lunch on a trip. The food was pretty good & the servings were plentiful. They give you large family size plates w/food piled on. I had the Green Bean Chicken & Shrimp Fried Rice everything we had tasted pretty good. It was a bit greasy. And the eggrolls were so freakin tasty. The decor is not fancy. But, who cares. It took us 2 days to finish the leftovers. I love this place& look forward to going back.
An itty bitty hole in the wall place with friendly & smiley service. The food is alright with fairly large portions and a few dim sum items also available. Free delivery as well. I've had the tofu and mushrooms, chicken chow mein, egg rolls, and beef with broccoli. All made me super full.
If I'm breaking my diet, it's on their salt and pepper chicken, which is saying a ton because I usually don't touch chicken, word.
I've only ever ordered over the phone for delivery but they're quick, affordable and fresh!
This is a hole in the wall, the place is dirty and i will never eat here again. why is it so hard to find clean and good Chinese food in town?
the only reason I found out about this place was through people from work ordering food, so I said " why not.."
I ordered fried rice with sweet and sour prawns...where to start... well you cant mess up plain fried rice so that was okay a little greasy but it was edible. As for the sweet and sour prawns it was like biting down into a saucy breaded dumpling while searching for the prawn. after the second piece I decided to just tear the breading off of the prawns, and to my surprise found a tiny ass shrimp... well to say the least this is NOT good eating.
if you are craving Chinese food go elsewhere, panda express is better than this, and that's not saying much
food excellent
price cheap
fast, courteous delivery
I highly recommend this one!
My BF and I drive 30 mins away for their food. This place is one of those small, dirty looking chinese takeout joint. The probably won't pass those inspections. But don't judge a book by it's cover. The food is CHEAP and soooooo GOOD. Portions are big enough that we always have alot to take home and to feed a few extra heads.
Fried Crab Puffs and the Honey Walnut shrimp (?) are to DIE FOR!!! I'm allergic to crabs (Hives) and I Hate Seafood..... but these dishes are an exception and all worth the itching. OH SOOOOO YUMMY!!!!
Hot and Sour soup just hits the spot. PERFECTLY made.
Salt and Pepper chicken is delish. Salty but just right.
The guy there is soo nice. The food is GREAT. Worth every mile. I wish they would open one up by my house. I would definitely be there every night. Next party we're throwing, I'm skipping the party trays from King Egg roll n order em here.
Thanks to our Yelper friends, we finally have found a great Chinese delivery for Castro Valley!
We ordered Szechuan Chicken, Broccoli Beef, Chicken Won ton Soup, Crab Rangoon Puffs, Pot stickers, Steamed Rice, and they threw in a big portion of yummy pork chow mien.
Very friendly service -- they customized almost every dish for our very picky preferences, and the service was so speedy -- we'd just barely finished ordering and the doorbell was ringing with our dinner. Everything was just as ordered, piping hot, and huge portions. Prices were very reasonable.
I'm very fussy about won ton soup, and Rose Garden met my requisites: very clean broth, tasty but not too salty, nice greens, white meat chicken, perfectly plump won tons, with filling that is pleasant and not overly spiced. It is the perfect comfort food, especially for when one is feeling "deep inner chill."
I enjoyed all the dishes except the Crab puffs -- they do have onions in them, and since I don't eat onions, the first bite just said "No - not for you." However, the others (who do eat onions) thought they were yummy.
I will definitely be giving them lots of business in the future, especially on these cold days when it's just more fun to hang at home and be cozy.
Since moving here a bit over a month ago, every time we passed by this place, I kept thinking to myself, "I have to check for Yelp reviews on this place!" The three reviews before mine were enough to get us to dig up a menu online and place an order for delivery.
We had family over, so each of us chose a dish: Kung Pao chicken, sweet & sour pork, lemon chicken, beef & broccoli w/pan friend noodles, and Mongolian chicken chow fun. They threw in our choice of fried rice for free, and we chose shrimp. Also, I should mention that Jeremy was on BART when he signed online specifically to tell - no, BEG me to order the deep fried cream cheese crab puffs. We ordered two (8 each) just to be safe.
Ordering was pretty easy. I like that they repeat everything back to you, too, even if every once in awhile any restaurant is bound to make a mistake. Ours arrived in half an hour, give or take, and we received everything we asked for.
I didn't try the crab puffs, but my lemon chicken breast was delish. Jeremy asked if it was more lemony or more chickeny, and I said it was a great, even taste: bite into it and you get that tangy zing of the lemon, and tender, real chicken breast. I did have one bite that was like a sliver of bone in the batter (wtf?), as did my sister when she tried a piece when I was finished, so I'd take off half a star for that.
But the free shrimp fried rice was tasty, so that bumps it back up. It's actually been awhile since we've had decent fried rice that wasn't too soy-saucy or overpowering in salt and grease (as the one place we knew that did it right had changed owners and also recipes - boo!). Not only was the fried rice super yummy, but it wasn't a teensy serving that most places give you for free. It was big enough for the five of us, and I even had enough for leftovers. Hell yes.
I had a bite of my sister's chow fun, but I'm more partial to the Thai version (Pad see ew or whichever variation of spelling of which you're familiar). It was nice and spicy. Although the other dishes looked and smelled just as inviting, I was trying to finish my own dish because I don't care for reheated poultry dishes.
I think next time I will try the wok-friend Chinese greens w/garlic. I didn't see that this time around, but it's one of my usual dishes when we order Chinese from anywhere.
$49 for 5 people, including tip. Free delivery. Good eats. We'll definitely be ordering from here again!
My friend called a few days ago to make sure we could be seated. He told me this is how it went:
- I'd like to make a reservation for 7 people, this Sunday at 6:30.
- This is a restaurant.
- Yes, we'd like a reservation.
- We're in San Leandro.
- Yes, we'd like a reservation.
... and so forth. Anyway, we got there after seeing a movie in the cinema across the street, and soon realized this is a place where people come mostly for take-out food. They served two other tables during the whole evening. And it was obvious that they don't often have 7 people at one table. The food was excellent and very cheap, and the service was agreeable. Considering the alternatives in the area are Chevy's and not much else, maybe this place deserves 4 stars...
Just tried the fried crab-cheese puffs. Yummy! Super creamy and fried. Can't beat that! (8 for 4.75)
The place is nothing great to look at, old, a bit dilapidated, but good food and good prices. The walnut prawns were cooked well, and de-lish. Not the same calibur as Eric's in the city, but still quite good. (8.25)
Mongolian beef ok, spicy, lots of onions. Not my fave, but again, good. (6.75)
Friendly people working the counter. Decent food, low prices.
I'll go again.
Yummy, yummy, yummy! We've eaten in the restaurant & taken out & will, I'm sure, use their delivery service. The food is excellent & I like the funky atmosphere in the restaurant. It's part of the weirdness of San Leandro where the two parallel universes of California-style big box homogenization & small town small business live side-by-side - not in harmony, but sort of in ignorance of each other.
We've had the General's Szechuan chicken, the Veggie Deluxe, the Kung Pao chicken, & the veggie chow mein - also the nummy crab cheese puffs. Great food & I'm loving the baby bok choy in the Veggie Deluxe. Wouldn't have found this without Yelp so thanks to everyone that reviewed for pointing us this way.
We kind of just stumbled upon this place. Good prices but all our meat dishes were a bit sweet, as was the corn drop soup. I think it caters more to "American" tastes. The fried rice was pretty good though.
crab puffs are delish!
you cant go wrong with the lunch combinations, i either get the salt and peer chicken with fried rice or the spicy eggplant with beef. they don't use msg. its a mom and pop. the owners are very nice. its a small restaurant so i usually get take out but they cook the food fast. portions are big as well. its probably the best chinese food in san leandro. try it, you wont be disappointed!
Excellent Chinese food, pass by this place so often, never stopped.
I didn't know what I was missing , the cheesy crab puffs w/ cream
cheese were great, I ordered the last menu item on the lunch special
tofu & broccoli with black bean sauce , it was great. Cheap prices,
two people can eat good for $10. Friendly girl at the counter and
fast service, highly recommended
I am addicted to Rose Garden on the weekends!! I have them delivered every weekend and it is best chinese food that delivers to the castro valley area. I usally order the shrimp fried rice, mongolian chicken, and spicy string bean...delish!!!! The food usually comes within 30 minutes and I always take advantage of the free appetizer. My favorite item is the crab cheese puffs!
I moved to my house 2 years ago and noticed that there was a little mom and pop, a hole in the wall chinese restaurant in my new neighborhood. It took me 2 years to finally go and try their food based on the reviews from Yelp.
Thanks to Yelp, I now have a new restaurant in my list. The food is absolutely good and surprisingly better than any other restaurants in san leandro, castro valley, hayward or even Union City or Fremont. Don't judge them from the outside. It looks really dumpy, old and unappealing but their food is sure good.
I never eat there, usually order for take out and they cook really fast. They give you a generous portion for a very good price (basically you can feed your whole family) and you get free appetizer or fried rice for order over $20.00
I like their house combination fried rice, their fried rice is actually the best fried rice i've ever had compared to any other chinese restaurants which cook really greasy and no taste beside soy sauce.
Their fried rice is not oily and is very tasty, you just can't stop eating the fried rice. House combination chow fun is very good, too.
I also like their double mushroom with tofu, 3 combination mongolian, spicy eggplant.
