What is not to like!
Roses, carefully tended. Much to learn strolling through this peaceful harmonic sspace. Birds chirp, butterflies! Scents waft by you as you wander, taking in beauty.
The sky changes, cars heard in the distance, peaceful roses, all kinds, a glory of buds, blooms, growth, aromas..
A quiet sitting on a bench. Watching, listening, not watching ( zoned out in peace) .. a young couple walking their child through the park.."look, honey, do you like these big red ones or the yellow?' slowly communicating their love and thoughtful appreciation of nature to a 3 year old child. A grandmother with teen children, teens by themselves, giggling, yelling(oops! they are wild! they are teens!), couples, friends.....
I have spoken to the caretakers a few times. Careful work, deliberate work. Loving work .. for us .. to walk by, wander in, feel peace sweep by us carrying us into calm.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
Can't wait to get married here in 2 weeks! :o)
Good lord. This place is goooooooooorgeous. One of those places that automatically sets off the "I want to get married here...[someday]" nerve in my brain. Of course the roses were not in season since it's the end of October, but regardless, it was gloriously green, perfectly manicured, quiet, and my visitors and I had the entire place to ourselves to photograph as we saw fit! It was a beautiful, free activity that was one of my favorite parts of my sisters' visit.
My dog and I came here a few times when we take a walk from our home to the zoo( about 1 1/2 miles walk one way). Sometimes, we would walk around the zoo (long route) and other times, we would take a short route which is through the rose garden. Prior to entering the garden, there is a sign that dogs must be on leash. It was just a nice short stroll. We relaxed by the water fountain before heading out.
Today, we saw the spring flowers in full bloom (tulips, daffodils, etc) and it looks like the rose bushes are growing. The roses will be beautiful by the time summer arrives! I can't wait to come back when the roses bloom!! :-)
I can see people having weddings/ commitment ceremonies here or having their pictures taken here during the summer time.
I love coming here, walking around by myself, getting lost in the floods of beautiful blossoms, totally ignoring every single other entity that may be there with me, and taking in nature's gems. I like to lose myself in this beauty, just a few moments of silence, where the world seems to melt away and my life is a bountiful place of lovelyness and dreaming.
Wish i knew how to grow roses, although my tomato plant looks promising.
It's strange. Even though I live 2703 miles (or 1 day and 15 hours worth of driving time according to Google Maps), I've been to two weddings here. And I'm not even FROM Seattle. Still, I can see why 2 out of the 4 people I know who live in Seattle chose to get married in this location. It's a very pretty, almost eye-poppingly so. A gazebo sits in the middle, flanked by beds of roses and facing a majestic fountain. As befitting the name, flowers and blooms abound and, depending on the season, cry out in a symphony of color as you breath in their floral bouquet. And then you'll remember that you're missing some football game somewhere and that you don't have a beer in your hand and you'd much rather be doing that on a Saturday afternoon than standing here in a rose garden watching your girlfriend cry even though it's YOUR friend getting married and, wait, why is she crying anyway? Is it because you haven't popped the question yet? I mean, you've talked about it, but hell, it's not time yet and besides, you've got to save up for a ring. Yeah, that expensive ass ring she wanted. And how long is this ceremony going to last anyway? It better not rain. I mean, pretty ballsy to have an outdoor wedding in Seattle. And I guess they can't cordon the park off, so these random people keep walking around while vows are being exchanged and I wonder what the score in the Florida-Ole Miss game is? Let me just check my blackberry **OW!** Y'know, elbowing me in the side is NOT the way to get me to marry you. Wait, Florida just LOST? I had MONEY on that game. Sniff. I think I'm going to cry too.
Four stars.
This garden is INSANELY GORGEOUS and Fascinating.
Forget the incredibly romantic setting, flowers everywhere, and the feeling of just being in some far away land, where your wildest wishes are coming true....
Forget the meticulous planning of the rows and rows of gorgeous roses, all with different colours, patterns, shapes and sizes.
Just go there and smell ONE rose. ONE... And you'll begin the wonderful experience of enjoying the fragant nature of these amazing blossoms, each one getting better and better.
I'm very excited on just coming here, and reading a book.
We went on a Saturday at 4 pm. It was sunny and beautiful. As we entered there were some guys on bikes saying bad words. It was not packed. Some guy was taking pictures. Some families were walking with their children. At the end it was empty. So we walked there with our toddler. There was a guy without a shirt laying there with his bike next to him. He looked as creepy as those at the entrance that you know they are not there to enjoy the garden. We turned and left. This is not a park to lay down half naked. They should go to a park.
I ordinarily don't care much for roses, but this garden has unusual roses and unique colors that make it worth a visit. It isn't a huge place, but it makes a nice little walk and the smell really is great, though almost overpowering in some spots.
So beautiful! If you want to escape the world, or have a romantic picnic go to the Rose Garden at Woodland Park. This is one of very few American rose test gardens in the US. These roses are tested here before they hit any sort of market. Walk around and smell the roses... they all smell differently and are oh so beautiful! It is free and near the zoo, woodland park, and greenlake. It only takes a few minutes to stroll through, but you'll want to stay a life time!
This is a great place to take your date, period. Why? Roses are romantic, they are expensive, and here you'll find all sorts of flowers that you can't see anywhere else. Its a bit strange to find couples canoodling in the flower beds, but don't worry you won't see that in Seattle.
