As a foodie with a taste for the weird, I really don't know how I had gone my whole life without trying the chicken and waffles combo. And I'm from the south, too! ::shrug:: Planning on making up for lost time.
I made a special trip here on my way back from Laguna Beach and was not dissapointed. I ordered the one breast (huge piece of meat!), one waffle combo. The fried chicken is the best I've ever tasted, and the waffle was pretty good. I've never had a bad waffle, come to think of it. They also gave us a biscuit and, even though I was absolutely stuffed, I tried it. It was perfection. Flaky and buttery and delicious.
Roscoe's will be added to my growing "when in L.A...." must-do list.
Chicken and waffles sounds like a joke but chicken and waffles are fantastic together! It's down home cookin' and damn good eatin'!
If you need a lot of ambiance when you dine Roscoe's is beneath you and that's a shame. The food can be awesome at all hours of the day and should be consumed whenever the desire strikes. I'll tell ya', just thinking about Roscoe's makes me hungry for that tender fried chicken and the crispy yet doughy waffles.

I have put off this review for months, purposely not wanting to put pen to paper or waffle to chicken as it were. I understand that Roscoe's represents itself as Southern cooking in LA. Wake up fella's if you've ever been to the ATL ..it's not all that.
I feel bad .. that I'm not gushing enthusiasm about this food that drives some folks into a catatonic euphoria about. I'm sorry ...it just does not give me a foodgasm. Visually, taste-wise or inventiveness are just lacking.
The bottom-line - it really doesn't matter what I think, since people flock to Roscoe's several locations in droves. The lines every time I pass by are testimony to that. That makes me happy - because it means people like their cholesterol in large regular doses. Evidently it is working because almost everyone waiting here should be in a Jenny Craig line instead. Proof positive it works for the masses.
It was my last night in LA and I wasn't going to miss Roscoe's again. I had dinner with the family and then some ice cream. I was stuffed but I HAD to have chicken and waffles, even if it meant that I might explode from all the food that I had eaten in my LA food marathon in the last 6 hours. I walked around Hollywood to digest a bit before having more food.
I shared a drumstick, a thigh, and a waffle. I just wanted to sample it. The chicken was good. It was crispy and flavorful. The waffle was okay. I made sure to eat it the way Alton Brown from the Food Network eats it... a piece of chicken and a piece of waffle with syrup smothered all over it. It was definitely good.
The environment was a little different than I had expected. The door that I had come through was roped off. A security guard let me through. Initially, I thought I was going to some exclusive club. Then I started to see all the people eating. It was very homey. No Snoop Dogg in sight.
The service was very pleasant and down to earth.
I'd come back if my friends wanted to grab some grub here.
Ok, so I didn't give their chicken breast enough credit the last time I reviewed Roscoe's. It's just so damn succulent and scrumptious that I can't think of many other places that have bomb chicken.
This time around my friends and I also ordered the sweet potato pie for the first time. I don't remember the last time I've even had sweet potato pie so I felt it was the right time... and what better place to have it than Roscoe's? My my my.... it was some good stuff, and with the whipped cream it was even better. So sweet and so tasty for my tummy.
I must say that between Gower and Pico, this one is my favorite location. Everytime I come here I feel "L.A." and everytime I go to the one on Pico I feel a bit ghetto and don't really feel like I'm getting an L.A. experience for some reason.
Lastly, parking really really sucks unless you get lucky. I wish they had a private lot. If you try to park next door in front of Red Ribbon you risk getting towed. My friends made circles around Roscoe's for about 15 minutes until they decided to just park at Denny's across the street. Luckily they didn't get towed. What a happy ending to a wonderful day.

Eating both chicken and waffles together never crossed my mind as a "good" combination until I heard… Read more »
This place sure SOUNDS good, but after going there for dinner on Wednesday, I don't see what the big deal is.
I ordered the Tues/Wed special which consisted of a fried chicken thigh, potato salad, mixed greens, and 2 pieces of hot water corn bread. The chicken was admittedly delicious, but everything else was average. I thought the special was OK, but almost everything else on the menu is overpriced. My friend got one waffle and the tiniest chicken leg I've ever seen for 7 bucks- what the heck?!
Might come here if I'm in the neighborhood and happen to be craving some fried chicken. But I don't plan on driving all the way out here just to eat at Roscoe's.
This review is for this location only. I've been to other Roscoe's and enjoy the chicken and waffles.
I will never EVER go to this location again. First off seating took about 45 minutes and once you get in its small and hot. We sat down... looked at the menu. I look around to see a roach crawling on the wall near the table across from us. I notify the rest of my party. As we get up to leave the lady (customer) kills the roach and keeps eating. UGH!!!!!
The fried chicken tasted just alright. The combo of fried chicken + waffle = good. Great combo to eat when you're drunk or extremely hungry. :) Overall, Roscoe's house of chicken & waffle is over-rated and hyped up. It did not meet my expectations.
Chicken = ~3
Waffle = ~3
Chicken + Waffle = ~4
price = ~2.5
service = ~2
I don't like this location as much as I like the one in Pasadena but only because I think the service here is not as great as the other locations. This could be due to the volume that this location turns.
One thing I can say about all of the Roscoe's Chicken and Waffle's the recipes are consistent no matter what location you choose the chicken and waffles are the same as well as the other items on the menu.
Parking here in Hollywood is a BI-YATCH you are lucky to find any as this is in a residential neighborhood to the back and just right off of Sunset Blvd. I have never been here at any time in the past 18 years where I didn't have to wait to be seated and the food orders take longer as well as this location... again probably due to the fact that this one is a LOT busier. It is also rather dark inside =/ and the front counter staff (every time I have been here) aren't really all that friendly and I have seen Security at this location
I'm just sayin...
Respectfully Reviewed
Very good chicken but waaaay overpriced. $6 for a small piece and a waffle.
Plus, parking sucks.
SO YUMMY! Took my cousins here for the first time on Saturday and they LOVED it. We got a lil bit of everything and just shared: chicken, waffles, omlettes, mac n cheese, more chicken. They thought I was crazy for pouring some syrup on the chicken but it's so good.
The service could be a little bit better as far as paying attention to your tables. Not once did our waitress return after the food was brought out to see how we were doing. And we had to wait 15 minutes after we were done eating to get our check. But oh well.
If you're ever in LA and you haven't tried it yet, GO!
Chicken and waffles together at last! Great food, people and atmoshpere. Good prices as well
My heart stopped.
Stopped. Blip Blip Blip.... Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...
Number 23, chicken breast, mac and cheese, greens, cornbread and a waffle to round it out being that this was my first time at Roscoes.
Sweet Tea.
Dear lord.
Anyway, it is a pretty bare establishment, it could be a wood paneled diner but it isn't.
The menu is all over the place.
The food is just fine. Not the best southern food ever, but perfectly tasty no less.
FYI: I don't like waffles, french toast, pancakes, and eggs! Sorry breakfast meal.
EXCEPT, for their waffles and eggs (which have onions; I don't like onions, however I loved them anyway). Oh-Em-Gee! I really do love their waffles, I have no idea why I do, they seem cinnamon-ish to me. Call me crazy. Their gravy is, okay. But their waffles...so good to me.
Since the dawn of time, the belief that fried chicken and waffles could even be remotely be consumed together was a taboo. Even the smallest mention of the two in the same sentence meant death by deep fryer. But times have changed and while we still enjoy mutton and mead, society no longer looks down on those who eat these two together. In fact, they call the pioneers of this combination, geniuses.
For some reason unbeknown to me, chicken and waffles hits a spot in me that I never knew existed. The ability to smother your fried chicken in syrup and eat it WITH your waffle is amazing! Roscoe's put the concept on the map for the rest of LA and it has been frequented by many, many, many people.
Being a watershed for tourist eateries in Hollywood, Roscoe's is busy at all hours of the day. When we went at 11am, we were able to be seated quickly despite the hustle and bustle of the restaurant. But I could imagine a pretty long wait if I went on a weekend night.
As a health freak, this definitely wasn't the meal I had in mind to start the day. But I knew what I was getting myself into and if I was going to go to Roscoe's I was going to go big. Hannah W. and I shared the Half chicken & 2 waffle combo. The fried chicken portions were HUGE, but more importantly, the waffle mix was amazing. Together (and with syrup) they make a good combo.
On the other hand, $15 for this meal seems a little expensive. I'm not an expert on fried chicken, but I'm going to say that if you're looking for bang-for-your-buck value, you better be looking at KFC and Eggos. Still, if you have friends visiting from out of town, you HAVE to take them here. Their trip won't be complete without it!
I heard from a couple of people that Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles was good. We waited for 27 minutes before getting seating. I love chicken, but not chicken with bones....so I ordered mac & cheese, waffles, and sweet tea.
The mac & cheese was good (B+). It was not super-cheesy, but had a good flavor. The waffles were not good (C-) because they were not crispy, but instead softer and chewy. I had a hard time cutting through the waffles with my fork and butter knife. I actually had to rip through the waffles to make smaller pieces. The sweet tea was okay (C+), but was not quite sweet enough. The tea tasted like it was made with artificial sweetener instead of sugar. I also tried the chicken (my sister cut some pieces for me) and it was pretty good, (B).
Overall, Roscoe's was okay but nothing to write home about.
Wish they had this in the bay too but blah oh well.
It's always a treat to go here when I'm in LA.
Of course the chicken and waffles are great but damn the Mac and Cheese is freakin on point.
The Sunset drink is hella sweet but just water it down and its all good.
LOVEz it.
I remember a Tech N9ne lyric where he talks about eating at Roscoe's on Sunset and Gower....anyways, I went here recently to meet up with Barry, Carlos, Al, Andrius, Cold, Ski, Ayesha and everyone else for Barry's Yelp mixer. I arrived kind of late because of the damn traffic. Right before me, Barry was late as well. It was really really cool meeting up with other Yelpers since this was my 2nd time hanging out at a Yelp event! I actually didn't eat anything because everyone had already finished their food.
Man, Al C. didn't even eat his chicken, so I guess it was that bad!? haha! Yes, the mac and cheese did look good!
The place...wow... outside, I was lucky to find parking right in front of the restaurant! Once I got out of my car, I wasn't surprised by the 2 guys that were trying to sell me some incense that smelled like glad in a bottle and some bootleg movies because at the other, BETTER Roscoe's on pico, they had people selling stuff, but the people there actually sold good stuff like Malcolm X shirts, hats, etc.
But yeah, so I went inside and met with everyone. I was amazed because this place looks like a damn bomb shelter inside for the next generation's underground railroad! haha! LOL @ Al C. saying that there were gnats flying around!? hahahaha! WOW! The staff was pretty damn cool, but you will get claustrophobic eating inside this "Rosco's Bomb Shelter & Biscuits".
Man, I believe one of our guests got sick after eating the food here, too! So in a way, it's good that I didn't eat! At least some of us hit up Delancey's right after!
Great experience going here and all, but I don't see myself coming back to this one!
I will stick to the one on Pico as well!
Getting my chicken and waffles fix here is a no brainer when I am in L.A. I rarely deviate from my standard order of a thigh and a waffle - if I am really hungry, I'll throw in a wing or a leg and some mac and cheese. I love that their food tastes consistent from location to location - you just know that it will hit the spot if it is what you are craving.
I love Roscoe's. It's so good. Some of them can be real ghetto, but this one's pretty good since they expanded the place. Never in my wildest imagination did I ever imagine chicken and waffles going together so well, but they do. And afterwords, I might be walking around with a brink in my stomach, like a pregnant nun for the rest of the night, but it's worth it.
If you haven't tried it, then you need to try it. And you can't do one, without the other, at least once.
Ok, this is the first time I have been to this Roscoe's and if you don't know it is there you will miss it. First, how could you not seat anyone waiting for other people to show up when noone is there? I don't get that.
I like Roscoe's food, I mean I only go there when I know I will be eating chicken and waffles & nothing else. Though the mac & cheese I sampled was pretty damn good.
The place is kinda scuzzy to put it lightly but it is not much different than eating in your moms old kitchen back in the day & watching her make some chicken for the family eating some while she does. Though I know my mamas kitchen had less gnats, well actually no gnats flying around as much as this place did.
Service was ok, I appreciated the fact that I got my beers fast. I will stick to the Pico location, it's what I know best. I need to try the Long Beach locale though.
I'll keep it brief. How did I miss reviewing this classic jernt? Great fried chicken, great waffles, brilliant potato salad, great biscuits and gravy, too crowded, and I love it large. I've been coming here for twenty years and it's never less than great and I never feel like I'm not going to explode after I've eaten there, like that girl in Willy Wonka.
YUM. Sigh... Oh Roscoe's why are you so far away from my hometown???
Ninja was in town to hit up the Ellen Show at WB Studio's and was feenin' for some Rosce's. With the appetite of a beast Ninja orders the "Carol Special" (Chicken breast & waffle), Cornbread, Potato Salad and an Ice tea.
From the pictures you can see that the food was AMAZINGLY Deliissshhhhhhh!
.::Overall::.
Carol Special - So Soo Good when it hits your lips (Chicken - perfect seasoned, not greasy, juicy.... Waffles- light, fluffy, a hint of cinnamon)
Cornbread - Good
Potato Salad - Very Good
Ice Tea - Solid brew very yummy
.::Recommendation??::.
Yes! Go! and when you go bring back some for me!
I went to Roscoe's because everyone tells me that their chicken and waffles were really bomb.
It had been a while since I had good fried chicken, and waffles didnt sound bad either, so I ordered the normal chicken and waffle.
It don't feel like Roscoe's uses the highest quality ingredients, as their chicken seems kinda KFC-ish, and the waffles were flat and hard.
This is an average chicken place, and an average waffle spot, and they get an average 3 star rating from me. Better Chicken, and better waffles can be found around town....but I guess the chicken/waffle combo keep s people coming back
This place used to be good a long, long time ago.
The waffles always sucked and now the chicken and corn bread does too.
easily the best branch...
-good parking
-crazy fast service
-clean bathrooms
-REALLY nice waitresses
-bump into rihanna
I love the food at Roscoe's. Their eggs, waffles, and chicken.
But, I shouldn't have to stand around for someone to seat me, especially when there is no worker in sight. Also, after sitting down, I shouldn't have to wait 10 minutes for a menu, and another 10 minutes for a waiter to take my order.
Maybe it's just this location, because I haven't experienced the same slow service and inattentiveness at other Roscoe's.
BTW, the chicken here definitely is greasy. Don't kid yourself if you only get one piece of chicken and think you'll be fine. Oil drips from the skin when you peel it off the meat.
I'm sorry to say it but... it's not the best fried chicken in the world. It's not the best waffle in the world.
I know what I just said is considered "blasphemous" by the hard core fans. Before you come after me with your torches and pitchforks, hear me out first.
Individually... these food items are pretty good but not mind-blowing. You know it's true. However...with their powers combined, much like Captain Planet, they become a force to be reckoned with. You're taste buds will explode and arteries will suffer the shock and awe that comes from all that fatty sugary goodness.
Sometimes, I like to add mac n cheese and grits. Once in a while I'll have some collard greens because that veg group has to be represented, right? Then...wash it all down with their Arnold Palmer... it's the best I ever had.
Good eats are to be had here. But, I don't come often because I value my cardiovascular system. I'm kinda funny that way.
OMG...this place has never let me down. This is on the regular for me after shows in the area. Carol C. Special..do it, it will change your life! Also, do not forget to put some louisiana hot sauce on that chicken for a little kick! Yes it is all that everyone says it is...and if Snoop eats here don't you think you should too?
It's fried chicken; and it's waffles --- nothing better. You get the savory with the sweet =)
And sometimes you can spot a celeb or two in the restaurant...FUN
The only thing I didn't like was the mac and cheese --- do not samps that! I've had wayyy better, which is a disappointment.

When I 1st saw Anthony Bourdain in No Reservations visited Roscoe, I was like "chicken with waffles??? WTH?"
1st, I dun like oily & fried stuff, 2nd who would have syrup & ketchup together? But boy, I love it right from the moment it was place in my mouth.
Not really sure how to describe it; u just gotta try it urself. It's just strangely addicting. I love the waffles =) The chicken was tender too. Not too fond of the gravy & onion, it was a bit salty. But the Southern chicken was good.
my cousins & I just ate & ate & we finished like after 10 or 15 mins. LOL
Can't wait to come back!!!!
Best. Anything. Ever.
Hands down.
This was a bit overrated. My chicken and waffles turned out dry, but I'm willing to give another go at it.
I don't believe how much fried chicken I've had in the past two months-- I'm surprised I haven't had a heart attack yet!
Roscoe's isn't the best I've had-- it's definitely close though-- but for some reason, the whole experience just fits together the best. All the other places, the chicken or waffle or something might be a skosh better, but Roscoe's just feels right.
I don't understand people's fascination with this place...i think its the name that gets people coming back...because for me it was just mediocre...
first off the place is filthy...even for me...whose used to living in filth...plz...my mouth alone...what comes out of this mouth is just constant garbage...but this place is pushing it...if the food was fabulous i'd overlook this misstep as i always do when there are diamonds in the rough...my motto a little dirt never hurt nobody...but that only applies to little hole in the wall places that are dirt cheap and have amazing food...this place falls flat on its face...
now anyone who knows me knows i love me some chicken...
i swear i was reincarnated and in another lifetime i was black...or mexican...cause i love me some southern soul food and some mexican food...
i love me some chicken...i am a connoisseur of chicken...i know a good chicken when i taste one...
I"M A CHICKEN SLUT...i've been around the block with some chickens in my day...and this one wasn't that fabulous...it didn't have the nice golden brown exterior or the flaky crispy coating...or the delicious juice that dribbles down your chin when you eat it bitching hot you can barely hold it in your mouth...but its so freaking good you don't spit it out...you just do that "woo ha" in your mouth trying to not burn the inside of your esophagus...
I ordered a two piece with a waffle...it was good...the waffle had a slightly crispy texture but i wish it was crispier...it has a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg that i enjoyed...it was probably the best thing..a little pat of butter...some syrup...yum..
overall the waffle was the best part...together with the chicken it was good..the waffle being its saving grace....i just wished the chicken was better...
also considering the ambiance and what not you would expect the place to be cheaper...but its kind of expensive for being such a cruddy place and the parking is terrible...lol...
god...who do i have to blow around here to get a good parking spot....
jeez....
Roscoe's is one of those places that doesn't need a string of reviews. The delicious chicken and waffles speak for themselves. I've been to most locations - Pico, Manchester and Maine, Lake, Long Beach...they're all good.
Long story short, If you are in L.A. and haven't been, it's a must try. Forget what everybody else has to say, get to Roscoe's and order the Scoe's Special for yourself. You'll fall in love too!
Ate there last night... great food, love the chicken with a little maple syrup, love the cinnamon waffles!
But, I got sick
Hubby did too.
Don't want to give a bad review because it is so good, but i don't feel good today.
Mmmm...
I love chicken and waffles. I love my waffles layered with butter and syrup. And I love my chicken covered in gravy and fried goodness.
Mmmm...
I HEART FRIED CHICKEN !
As a matter of fact when I'm craving fried chicken, this is probably one of the only places that will fully satisfy the craving. So much so, that I'm willing to make the piligrimage from San Diego to LA !!....... The last few times I went to LA, I made it a point to have lunch at Roscoe's. I usually opt for the Scoe's special: fried chicken, and two fabulous waffles. I've also tried the fried chicken smothered in gravy, and it's heavenly as well. In addition, I've also tried their biscuits, mac and cheese, and greens. Which are good, but not as great as their chicken and waffles. Even their chicken sandwich with fries plate is good! Needless to say they do chicken right! Maybe one day this LA institution will make its way down South to San Diego. In the right hood, I'm sure it will do well.
We came, we conquered, we would do it again. Howver, eating like this everyday is not a great idea unless you want to die somewhere in your early 30's. But it was definitely filling and amazing nonetheless.
