It's places like these that make me happy to be living in Lower Haight.
I popped in to give one of these puppies a try on Saturday afternoon and was unbelievably happy w/ the dog I devoured.
I went w/ the Beer Sausage smothered w/ peppers & onions w/ a squirt of curry ketchup. What was I thinking when I thought that I could eat this and go for a run afterwards?? ha! F that. Once I was done chowin' down, my afternoon was dunzo.
Lovin' the other sausage choices, friendly staff, & efficient system they've got goin' on. Rosamunde isn't a dumpy joint by any means, but just a small space to order & take out or to grab one of the 8 or so stools for a quick bite.
YUM!
Sidenote: There's motorcycle parking right in front. It's like Rosamunde and I were destined to be together. :)
We went to Rosamunde last weekend after reading so many positive reviews on Yelp.... It was not easy to decide what to get as everything sounded really good. I wanted the Wild Boar with Apple & Spice, but they were out of it. I debated between the Duck with Fig and the Nurenberg Bratwurst, but decided on the bratwurst to be on the safe side for my first visit.
The sandwich comes with 2 slender bratwurst sausages that's packed with flavor. You can choose your own condiments including sweet peppers, hot peppers, mustard, ketchup, and grilled onions. I opted for everything on mine.
It takes a good 15 to 20 mins for them to prepare the sausage, but it's well worth the wait. That was one awesome bratwurst and I'm ready to go back to try the more exotic sausages.
Had the chicken sausage with cherries tonight. It went really well with the onions and sweet, red peppers.
But the winner of the night was clearly the all-beef knockwurst. Do not order this if you don't like hot dogs, because that's what it tasted like: a really high-end, juicy, perfect, fat hot dog. I love that it had an outter casing with snap!
$3 pint and a Rosamunde sausage? What a way to start a Friday night!

Out-freakin-standing.
I needed to grab something to eat before pounding down beers at the Toronado next door - and I wandered by this place. "Sausages?" I thought to myself, "...why, I like sausages." If the sign and promise of meat in tube-form didn't grab me, the smell of grilling pig would have... having spent 7 years of my life in Madison, Wisconsin, I knew a thing or two about a good pairing of beer and tube-steaks... but, in Wisconsin they had bratwurst, see, and that's not something you see many places, so I doubt that...wait a second! Bratwurst! This place has brats!! (That's pronounced "brahts," kids.)
I grabbed one - actually two, since I came back here AFTER the Toronado - and the griller/proprietor/owner put it in a toasted bun and slathered it with mustard (proper, brown German mustard) and a whole crap-load of sauerkraut. Who the eff is this guy?
I'm gobbling this thing up like it's the last meal I'm going to have, and two guys walk in. They start talking...they went to school in Madison too...what's a coincidence...then the owner/griller guy pipes up - he's from Milwaukee! Ahhhhh...now it makes sense. The lord works in mysterious tube-steaky ways.
I said in my review of Toronado that I wouldn't go out of my way to go there - but this place? THIS place I would cross a raging river to get to... just next time I'll get my beer at the Mad Dog across the street.
Anyway, this place is just so effing brilliant., it makes me want to cry.
Rosamunde kicks ass! It has a superb location, being right next door to Tornados, where you are invited to eat your snausage! The selection is incredible and far surpasses my expectation when I'm thinking in simple terms of sausage and beer (next door). The staff can be a bit brutal, but hey, that's not why your there and it's not like you have to endure it for that long. Get over it. However, the German lady, is the nicest, friendliest face I have had the pleasure of dealing with here. There should be more of her, but there isn't, so whatever...
Try the Wild Boar or Chicken Habanero you can't go wrong!!! Their sausage is absolute deliciousity!
I spent a summer subletting an apartment right across the street on Haight street, and went there probably 3 times a week. I've had every single sausage on the menu at least twice, and they are all amazing. I couldn't pick a favorite, but you really can't go wrong with any sausage ending in "-wurst".
The toppings are awesome, and all really good. I like to go for the chutney and hot peppers. Add a little of the honey-wasabi mustard and you got yourself a damn good sausage. Then go to Toronado's and watch the Giants get slammed. I don't know why but every time I watched the Giants game at that bar while eating a sausage they got destroyed, losing by at least 5 runs. It happened like 6 times. I think it was just a bad luck combination. But ya know what? I didn't care. Ya know why? Because the sausage was just that good. Okay, I did care one time we lost 10-2 to the fucking Brewers. That knockwurst didn't sit so well.
Delicious exotic to regular sausages to buy to take home to cook or cooked on site. I had two, the wild boar with apple & spice and then the smoked chicken with cherries. Both were great. This place is located next door to a great bar where many people bring their food. I counted 13 different sausage flavors including a vegan variety. You also get the choice of two of four toppings, sauerkraut, grilled onions, peppers or spicy beef chili. Freaking hit the spot.
The guy working the joint was a character as well. Nice bloke.
I highly recommend stopping by for a sausage or two!
This sausage was delicious! I had the special which was lamb, and got peppers and grilled o's on it. We took ours next door and grabbed a pint of beer, which was awesome.
Yes as other reviewers have said, the counter staff can be a little rough and if that bothers you then you should probably pass. But if you can handle it for five minutes, go get a sausage and head over to the bar next door for for a tasty treat.
OMG! so.....this is the ABSOLUTE BEST sausage/hot dog place I've ever been to! NY's gray papaya has nuttin on it! Berkeley's Top Dog is definitely 2nd rate compared to Rosamunde! GREAT STUFF! plus, you could get it to go and take it into the bars nearby.
ordered:
Wild Boar w/ apple & spice with toppings Sauerkraut and grilled onions.
There are over a dozen sausage flavors including duck, vegan, pork/lamb, plus more.
You choose 2 out of 4 toppings: sauerkraut, grilled onions, peppers, or spicy beef chili.
The sausage was delicious, the "bun" was grilled nicely and they did not hold back on the toppings. Best sauerkraut I've had (although, honestly I haven't had much experience with sauerkraut)
Again, definitely an awesome place! I will try to always remember this place if I happen to be in Lower Haight with a friend from out of town looking for a quick snack.
Note: Be sure you order your sausage first, give your name and the person will tell you how long it will take. When your name is called, they will ask what 2 toppings you want and then you pay. Very organized and efficient. They will correct you if you do it in the wrong order.
I looooooove SAUSAGES!!
The line here can get pretty out of hand and the workers can be a bit curt--but they're not rude, just busy. My motto is never piss of the man cooking your food, so let me give you a breakdown of how it goes: 1. Choose the Sausage 2. They will grill it 3. You wait somewhere where you're not blocking the doorway 4. Once your sausage is done grilling, you tell them your toppings (onions, peppers (sweet or hot), sauerkraut or chili) 5. you pay 6. EAT and wait for the flavors to explode in your mouth.
These sausages were soo juicy, flavorful and succulent. I had three to taste and was satisfied with each and every one of them. Perfect bun to meat ratio. Excellent, quality toppings. Unique and memorable flavors. What more can I ask out of life? Well, I wish they would let me buy all the flavors to take home and grill myself but that's besides the point. This place hit the spot and left me wanting more!!!
Secret tip: they have curry ketchup next to the grill so you have to ask for it if you want it; everything else is accessible to you on the side of the store
You can also choose to take your food to a local bar close by but I was just sooo excited, I could not wait!
Rousamunde! I will be back!!!
I tried the smoked lamb sausage... delish!
I also tasted my friend's andouille dog and the duck with fig dog... both did not disappoint. I still really like the chili and peppers toppings. The chili is pretty spicy, btw.
Wait was a little bit long on a late Saturday afternoon. We waited about 10 minutes, people who came in later had to wait 25.

Dang, I wish I would have tried this place sooner. I ordered the beef & lamb sausage with peppers… Read more »
What a great concept for quick and cheap eats. About the service, all that I have to say is KNOW WHAT YOU WANT before stepping up to order. Reminds me of the Soup Nazi episode. If the service sucks, tell them about it! Of course, do this after you get your food to go. Try the lamb sausage with sauerkraut and onions.
While the ordering system seems a big chaotic and inefficient (my sausage was lukewarm while my friends was piping hot) the quality of the sausages were outstanding. I got the lamb sausage.. it had fennel and sun dried tomatoes.. a perfect combination. Topped with sauteed onions and I was as happy as Oprah in a fast food joint.
As a visitor from Reno to SF, this place was interesting.
The place is small, with only a few bar stools along the counter lining the front of the store and maybe two small tables. I don't think I'd really want to eat there, as even when we went at late afternoon (4:30 ish?), there were maybe a half-dozen or so milling around, waiting on their orders.
As others have noted, service is a bit rough. Only one person was working, and I didn't realize you order the sausage, get your name called, request your toppings, and then pay as your handed your sausage. A bit of a learning curve for sure, and I wasn't too impressed that when we walked in: the one person working was on her cell texting, and asked us to wait a minute while she finished her message.
On the other hand, merguez sausage with chili and peppers was fantastic. The sausages are in the display case, and looking at them, I noticed how some were smaller, more like hot dog size, and others were bigger, stockier affairs. Ends up if you order the smaller ones (like the merguez) you get two in your bun, so it probably all works out in the end.
We took our sausages next door to Toronado, and they were delicious.
Cool experience, and I'd probably give them another star if I went again and didn't have to deal with the learning curve, and constantly being corrected on the ordering procedure.
John B R. and I dropped into the "Rose" for quick sausage for dinner.
Let me just say that I'm not a big fan of sausages to begin with.
I ordered the chicken habanero with sauerkraut and peppers and was not a big fan. It really lacked the flavor I was craving at the time! I hate to say this, but it tasted like a plain ol' hot dog. I was not into it.
On top of that, the guy behind the counter was a damn jerk, basically telling us to tip. Sorry, dirt bag, I think not.

The food here for me is right around 5 stars. I have no complaints with an awesome sausage (as she says). none.
But the douche-bag behind the counter, well he was, a douche-bag!!!!!
I come to your f'ing hole in the wall and you dare tell me after i pay for your god-damn sausage "HEY MAN, A TIP WOULD BE NICE, IM WORKING MY ASS OFF BEHIND HERE".
I'm sorry buddy, not with that attitude.
Little did Mr Douche-Bag know, i like to tip at the end of a meal, and i like to tip big at the end of a meal.
So go F yourself, jerk-off that works at Rosamunde with the long hair that works on Thursday nights around 7:00 pm and who is really f'ing full of himself and his "hardworking" job. GO F YOURSELF.
I still give this place 3 stars. A-OK, as yelp is telling me to say.
"F**k you, buddy!"

I was sending this link to a friend to try only to realize that I haven't written a review yet!!
This place is soooo good! The choices are so interesting and every time you go you can try something new. The wasabe mustard is bomb and the peppers (sweet or hot) are delectable!
It is a great place to take someone that is new to the city especially cuz there is a bar right next door called Toronado. It has so many options of beer (always changing too!) So you can go get your sausage (which will take 5-20 minutes depending on the wait) and go to the bar and hang out, talk and eat. Best time ever!!
Enjoy!!
So really, why 5 stars for a hot dog place? It's obviously not 5 stars if you compare it Gary Danko and the like, but if you are a sausage fan, then this place is the absolute best. Think of it like your very favorite hot dog pushcart vendor moved inside to a small, modern metal room, not trying to be anything other than a place to get some tasty meat (and whatever else goes into a sausage --- like the farmers say: "Everything but the grunts") on a bun.
Let's be real. $5+ for a normal sized sausage? Is it that good, considering you can get a bigger and better sausage with a berry smoothie at Costco for half the price? I think not.
I had the beer sausage last week topped with onions, sweet peppers, and a little bit of dijon mustard. It did not blow my mind. Nor was it particularly delectable in the moment. Claire C. had the duck and was underwhelmed as well.
I actually thought the customer service was pleasant. The guy behind the counter, while harried, was friendly and polite and apologetic when he neglected our order and that of the girl in front of us.
What really makes this place is the fact that you can take the sausage nextdoor and doublefist sausage and Franziskaner. That's really what keeps this place going and if you're hungry and drinking, sausages are great. Otherwise, skip it.
Great sausies!
People often complain that Yelp reviews too closely resemble blog posts. While it is true that personal experiences are accentuated, this does not mean the review is not included in the text as well.
Here is an example also serving as my review for Rosamunde Sausage Grill (a great local joint with an amazing duck-fig sausage, perfectly grilled rolls and really friendly service):
I asked the guy standing in front of the restroom if he was waiting to use it. He said he wasn't waiting for the restroom but rather he was waiting for a sausage. I thought to myself, "In some places that would mean the same thing."
We can infer the following from that paragraph:
1.) There is a restroom in Rosamunde.
2.) Rosamunde sells sausages.
3.) The likelihood of your getting peened in the lav here is minimal at best.
See?
You can all mark this "useful" now.
I like this place. People are right when they say, its not about the customer service. Don't bother coming here if that's all that matters to you.
I had the Duck with Figs sausage. It comes with the choice of 2 free toppings. I chose the grilled onions (which I normally dislike) and spicy chili (which i hate spicy). Talk about WTF huh? If I don't like it, then why get it... well lemme tell ya, it was spicy and my mouth was burning. I'm not exactly sure if I actually tasted the duck with figs but it was tender. I think the chili masked the true taste. BUT IT WAS SO DAMN GOOD!
And to all that say she's not nice, she's actually pretty cool if you actually talk to her. I'll definitely come back next time I'm in SF. Maybe this time without the chili or onions.
I really like this place. Lots of different tasty sausages to choose from, from veal to duck to the always delicious bratwurst. There's very limited seating area available, but you can take your food to the bar next door. This is one of my favorite places to eat in SF, but I don't get there nearly often enough.
One of these days I need to try out the Tuesday burgers. I'll update this review when I do.
Cash only, FYI.
This place considers EVERYONE. If you're one of those pseudo hippy-punk vegan types who runs a t-shirt making company, they have a vegan dog for you. If you're a blood thirsty savage who will eat anything and everything in sight, there's a veal sausage. They have a sausage made from just about every meat - beef, pork, chicken, duck, etc.
If that alone wasn't enough to convince you, I'm pretty sure this place only exists for the sole purpose of taking it NEXT DOOR TO THE BAR and eating a goddamn sausage with a goddamn pint of beer.
Whoever started up this little joint: I love you. Marry me, regardless of your gender/sexual orientation.
Holy moly yummy yummy.
When you come here, you...
1. Order the sausage.
2. Wait for it to be cooked.
3. Answer the guy when he asks you which sides you want. The first two are free and you can choose from sauerkraut, grilled onions, peppers (spicy + sweet), and beef chili.
4. Pay.
5. Receive sausage and top it with ketchup and/or any of the three kinds of mustard.
I tried the Duck + Fig Sausage and the Hungarian (smoked pork) and I loved both! I had them both topped with honey wasabi mustard which really gives it a mildly horseradish and sweet taste. The Duck + Fig was not overpowering at all... I thought I was going to be eating chunks of figs. This particular sausage was smaller in diameter so you actually get two. The Hungarian was definitely juicier and a light smokey taste to it. Peppers are a good option because they include sweet red peppers and jalapenos which create a nice balance.
At around $5.50 a pop, it's a bit steep but the sausages are definitely gourmet and unique. It's like Top Dog for the elite!
The duck sausage was good, but couldn't taste a distinguished flavor. However, the chicken tequila habanero sausage was delicious.
There are many choices so I will go again and try something new.
And this whole time I thought costco had the best hot dogs... but I think i've just discovered a new favorite for hot dogs. Yup. I had the Nuernberger Bratwurst which is spicy pork and it was yummy. As described in the message below this one, they have a whole process. Order, cook, wait, condiments, pay, and EAT. Never thought they could make such a simple hot dog taste that great. Simple toppings. Exploding flavor. Cost is worth every penny. $5.25. Cash Only!
This is a great "dog" spot, many a after work brews were chased by this establishments hand made sausages. Everyone behind the counter has a unique personality that make it a great experience. The Variety of sausage is great some sell out early and on tuesday only they make hamburgers that don't last past noon! They even have a veggie option for those not stricken by the love of meat. the mango chutney topping is one of faves! See you in Lower Haight.
so delicious. the all beef with some grilled onions at 9pm, take it next door to toronado for a 6 liter duvell to find a place to sit and to wash down some of the just-right spiciness of the hot dog. the guys behind the counter are weird and it adds to how oddly scrumptious a simple hot dog can be. the weirder thing was that the other 5 people who i was with, all got different hot dogs, so we almost covered the whole menu in one night... no one looked disappointed.
Sausage....WANT. For over a year, I've been meaning to visit Rosamunde, but something invariably comes up. Now I regret all the failed attempts. I now want grilled sausages with an unhealthy fervor. Yes, want toppings! Mmmm, chili....mmm, grilled onions.
On our self-proclaimed food marathon, my friends and I made a quick jaunt to Rosamunde. My first time. I wish there was room at the bar next door, but it didn't take away from the bliss of eating a smoked lamb sausage. I smiled and was happy.
There are few more gratifying experiences than a late night jaunt to Rosamunde and Toranado for wurst, kraut, and bier.
Having gone several times, I still have a hankering for their sausage whenever I meander back to the City. I love the whole experience of ordering at one joint, and wandering to the other to enjoy the best of two specialized venues.
In some ways bare bones, the decor is spare, but the fare is sumptuous offering a wide variety of sausages and toppings. I love this joint, and I can't wait to have some more!
Some time last week, I was talking on the phone with a friend while he was watching the Food Network late at night. He was describing to me some of the foods that the chefs on that channel like to eat and one of them was a Merguez Sausage, which is 90% lamb and 10% beef. Sounds yummy, right? So what do you think I immediately did? Go online and yelp for the nearest place that served the Merguez Sausage, of course! I found Rosamunde, wrote it down as one of my places to try, and stashed the list away.
Then, as though it was meant to be, one of my friends suggested Rosamunde to meet for our reunion. As soon as we got there, I ordered the Merguez with grilled onions and peppers without a second glance at the menu. At first I thought, "$5.50 for a sausage?" but then I realized that it was for two sausages in a hot dog bun. Very nice and very worth it. The sausage was the best sausage I've ever had. The flavor of lamb was there but not too overwhelming. And after trying three of my friends' sausages (Smoked Lamb, Duck and Wild Boar), I decided that I had made the best choice.
Rosamunde is extremely small so as soon as we got our sausages, we left and went over to the bar next door and chilled with booze. Great combination if you ask me. Overall, I am very satisfied and excited that I can cross off something on my to-do list.
With over 800 reviews, does Rosamunde's really need another 5 star review? Probably not, but I've been enjoying and craving the wild boar sausage with kraut and hot peppers lately. In fact, I think I'll head there after work today. The woman from Berlin is sweet but a little on the yappy side and just that touch slower that makes me drool just a little more and get a little bit more anxious to get my sausage on. The tall skinny dude is a better balance of personable and extremely efficient. Either way, the result is delish, and I only wished I lived closer.
The best selection of sausages that the city has to offer.
However, the buns are too big, the wait is too long, and they, stupidly, close at 10 pm even though they could easily stay hella busy until Toronado closes at 2 am.
Many a drunken fist have been shaken at Rosamunde for closing early!
Duck sausage.... mmmmmm.....
* insert sausage joke here *
ps- their sign is lying when it says they are all served on sesame buns. They are NOT. No sesame here. HOORAY! (I'm allergic)
Rosamunde is sausage heaven.
interpret it whichever way you want.
don't be shy to order multiples and share, or not (that'll be me).
drowning your sausage in condiments is highy suggested.
If you get the delicious duck and fig sausage with toppings, don't put any fancy mustard on there. The spicy mustard was so overpowering, I couldn't taste my delicious sausage. I remedied the situation by scraping off the rest of the mustard and foregoing some of my mustard-stained sauerkraut. That's how amazing the sausage was. I LOVE mustard, but I just wanted to be able to savor the duck instead. I also recommend the beer sausage.
Will someone help me figure out why I only paid 5.50 for a delightful, filling meal? Maybe the owners forgot about inflation. Please don't remind them.
I know that someone will twist my words, but this truly is the best sausage around. Everything is so good especially the duck with figs or the smoked lamb. You also get to choose two toppings such as onions, peppers, or chili. They grill up everything, including the bun, and it is delicious!
This place gets packed and while they bust their ass behind the counter, most of the time there is only one person working so it takes some time. While there is seating inside, it is bare bones and you are much better just sitting at the bar next door (Toronado). I get a beer over a Tornado, then walk over next door to order my sausage, and I'll come back to pick up the sausage after I've finished my beer. Then it's time for a fresh beer paired with a delicious sausage!
YUM YUM YUM!
1) Long lines give you an idea of how desired this place actually is.
2) Metal music playing in the background. \m/
3) Semi-Cheap (5-6 bucks)
4) 10 minute average waiting time.
5) Beers next door and across the street.
6) Best Selection of amazing meats.
7) Order 2 - if your a male.
8) Mustard + Sour Krout = Orgasm in your mouth.
9) Small place - get the fuck out after you order.
10) Cry - cause this is the best sausage you'll ever have.
I expected so much more but all I got was decent. Maybe it was just my sausage; I got the beer sausage with sauteed onions and peppers but it wasn't juicy or flavorful at all. It's probably all the hype. The bread was ok, nothing special. I like my hot link at top dog so much more. I'm sorry. I have no more words.
P.S. I was the only girl, other than the server chick, for the entire 45 min we were there. Maybe I couldn't understand my sausage b/c it's a guy thing? I don't know...
