4 reviews for Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park
I loved this zoo - its not as huge or as big as most of the major metropolitan zoos would be, but here is why I was impressed:
-fare is only $6 for adults and $4 for kids
-its not crowded, even though we visited on the memorial day long weekend
-every exhibit is well kept, clean, and actually has animals/birds/fish in them
-the staff has arranged exhibits and swabbed animal habitats with certain scents that invoke natural behaviors in them (hunting for food, looking for bugs etc) so you get to see animals moving around actively, versus just drugged and hiding in a corner
-the half mile hike was worth it, to see the tigers, bears, wolves, and other bigger animals
-the food isn't priced at ripoff prices, so you can actually afford to eat here and have yourself a decent meal even if you didn't pack yourself a picnic.
I had a blast here - definitely a must see.

Nice zoo in the Syracuse area. I came here on a college field trip, and we saw some behind-the-scene stuff that casual visitors aren't usually made privy to.
Oh man, I love this zoo. Even on a trip back home a few years ago I demanded that my mom and sister go with us to the zoo ... mainly for old time's sake. But I was shocked at all the improvements they've made over time!
First, the penguin exhibit is by far, the best thing there. I was so happy to see that addition. Some of my other favorites are the red pandas and of course, the monkey house.
They still have the wild life forest path where supposedly they have foxes and wolves, but really all you see is a lot of open land. But I digress.
Overall, a great zoo, and definitely a great way to create memories for families.
The first time I went to the Burnett Park Zoo I was in Kindergarten. I remember that my mom went as a chaperon and we ended up with a picnic in the park. When was really young the zoo was fascinating but as I got older I started to notice how dated it really was.
Like Zoos all across the country Burnett Park Zoo remade itself to be more animal friendly several years ago. The improvements are very noticable and it became a great place to visit with young children.
I have not been back to the Zoo since I brought my daughter and her cousins a couple of years ago. I imagine that it has not changed much since.
