I now work closeby, so I stopped by for lunch. I ordered a meatball sandwich with a side of tortellini pasta salad. Both the items were great, but especially the pasta salad: flavorful, the pasta al dente with pine nuts and sundried tomatoes complementing it. The amount of melted jack cheese on the sandwich was just perfect, the wait for the food reasonable, and the service attentive and friendly.

Plus, they've added to my coolpoints. I mentioned how much I had liked it to the employee at the front later that day (I had to go pick up a coworker's sandwich) and she told me that it was a brand-new item on the menu and that I had been the first to order it. Huzzah!

One gripe: it isn't the cheapest. Then again, they do use high-quality ingredients.

The mexican hot chocolate is really good.  The cookie that we bought, 'Sweet Caroline' was too sweet.  Its an oatmeal cookie with chunks of chocolate and by that, it was reallllllllllllllly chunky.

We ordered the Portuguese Scramble- eggs, portuguese sausage and brown rice.  I felt like it needed more flavoring so I kept pouring hot sauce on it.

Our friend got the Texas Toast Combo and that looked good.  Our other buddy ordered the vegetarian quesadilla  and it looked loaded!!

I don't know if we'll come back...maybe for the sandwiches.

Brunch places are hard to come by in Irvine, so you can imagine my joy when I found this place. I love how they use fresh produce from local farmer's markets to make their food. I've had their chicken wrap and tuna melt before. Both were delectable, and I plan to try their breakfast burritos next. I hear they're all the hype.

Seating and parking is a bit limited so try to beat the breakfast/brunch/lunch rush. Haha, now wasn't that helpful? =)

Found this place after doing a breakfast search on yelp since I was in the area. I remember it used to be a ramen place I went to several times. Since the overall reviews were good decided to give it a try.

I got the huevos rancheros and was less than impressed (I have to admit I have EXTREMELY high standards for Huevos Rancheros). I asked the guy at the counter if they came with a soft or hard tortilla and he said they could do either. Even after asking for a hard, fried tortilla (a tostada really) I got a somewhat dry semi-hard tortilla.  And the salsa (the key ingredient) was only OK.

Aside from that the rest was ok.  Service was prompt.  My wife got the breakast tacos and those seemed to be better. The place was packed when we left. The Mexican hot Chocolate was the best thing there. I would try it again and get something else off the menu.  Bu not sure I would drive across town for breakfast here when there are several excellent places near where I live.

I'm a brand new resident of Costa Mesa, so when I typed in "breakfast" in my Yelp search, and Rooster came up, I was on my way.

Breakfast tacos are a MUST. They also make a breakfast sandwich that can't be beat. Pricing is super reasonable! This is kind of a hard place to find, so be careful. It's next to a bar and hair salon.

BTW-when you see the people working there eating everytime you come in, you know it's good!

I had a breakfast meeting in the city of Orange so I came on Yelp, found Rooster Cafe, and placed my order the evening before (28 breakfast burritos- some with bacon, some with sausage, some veggie). I came in the next morning and they were all ready! I waited 1 minute for the salsa and paper goods and while I was waiting they immediately offered me a hot cup of coffee (which I gladly accepted). I paid a bit over 100 dollars for everything.

Everyone at the meeting LOVED the burritos, including me! They don't use the usual potatoes in them- they use the shredded ones - awesome. I had a great experience here that was no-hassle. They made my job easier for work. This place you can definitely count on for a large, to-go order!

Giving this joint 4 star only because you can eat froot loops cereal here at 3am ...which i have before after exiting bar across the street wasted. ...okay okay food is pretty good too ^_^

Super fast and friendly service

The breakfast burrito was pretty darn good, although mine looked smaller than everyone else's (this may have been a delusion because I was hungry).  It was filled with eggs, hash browns, cheese and bacon, wrapped up in a grilled tortilla.  It tasted fresh and was served with some salsa on the side

Overall, I found the Rooster Cafe to be quite enjoyable. It's quaint and relatively quick in terms of food turnaround. Each of my breakfasts only took about five minutes long to make and serve.

French dip?..... guess i have to try this since eveybody raved about it.

Staff incredibly rude, food bland and cheap.  I ordered a pastrami specifically with no mustard. When it came out, with mustard, I asked for a fresh bun (not a new sandwich), and was brought back the same sandwich, same bun, with mustard.  The guy who worked there could not care less that I did not get what I wanted.  That kind of indifference makes me wish Yelp had a minus-5 rating.  I hate mustard, and was forced to wipe it off my meat and eat it with no bread.  That is not a positive dining experience, he literally just did not care ...  we had a party of 4, and all of the food was below average, I have no idea why people have rated this crappy place as a 5 star?  Just cause there's nothing else in the neighborhood doesn't make it good.

While not the most exotic or complex menu, Rooster Cafe has become one of my favorite breakfast spots for several reasons:

1. It's cheap and quick (when you can find parking!)
2. The few items they have are all filling and tasty
3. The ingredients they use are very high quality and they even advertise that something like 96% of what they use is all locally grown

While I have tried a number of things, my two favorites is their breakfast burrito and early riser breakfast sandwich.  The breakfast burrito is very filling and very hearty.  It is stuffed with delicious eggs, potatoes and a meat of your choice.  I always get it with the linguicia.  The early riser is a nice alternative if you are not looking to stuff yourself or if you are not super hungry.  Taste wise I think it has more flavor.  The sandwich itself consists of two thick slices of sourdough bread with cheese, hearty bacon, fried egg and some sauce.  The bacon is just succulent and thick.  Just a great solid meal!  With both my burrito and sandwich I always ask for avocado, what doesn't go well with avocado?

Besides those two items I've tried their french toast which was delicious but unfortunately it did not come with anything else.  I would recommend getting it with eggs or another item to make it a complete meal.  I have yet to try their sandwiches and am dying to get the much talked about french dip sandwich.  My friends all rave about it but one did not like the fact that there are mushrooms in it.

One thing I do have to mention is that they do rent the facility out in the evenings on the weekends to a tapas place.  I drove past it one time coming back from the gym and much to my delight I see that it was open.  Looking for a nice shot of protein, I go in there and see an entirely different crowd and atmosphere.

If you are looking for a high quality under $10 breakfast, this is the place for you.

Curious location makes this an out of the way joint that must deliver good food to keep the people coming back.

I discovered it when I was getting new tires put on my car at Discount Tire Company (across street).  I wandered over, ordered coffee and the breakfast sandwich (egg, toast, cheese) and grabbed an available LA Times.

The cashier was friendly.  The delivery was timely.  The crowd was a mix of alternative/rocker and suburban wives.  The sandwich was good.

I like that you can see right into the kitchen, and the simple menu reflects their minimalist approach to the entire operation, but when it comes to the food I am optimistic they deliver on all their items.

I will be back.

We come here often on weekends for breakfast. Cute little local spot with good simple food. I like the early riser which is just a breakfast sandwich. I get tomato added to mine though! Its cheap and yummy. The bf likes to get the huevos ranchero or something like that. The potatoes are not that great here, I prefer them to be crispier. The place is pretty small and gets fairly busy on the weekend mornings so be prepared to wait for a table.

On a side note, at night on the weekends the place turns into Boqueria which is a tapas style restaurant. We went with some Spanish friends who were not too impressed. It was still fun to try different foods in a very small place with attentive staff.

Yeah, I'm totally ready to give Rooster Cafe 5 stars. Love this place. I'd be here alot more if it were a few blocks from my house.

Love it when I can get rice with my breakfast, reminds me of vacations in Hawaii.
Love it when the decor suits me perfectly, sorry if you don't "get it", Modern, Minimal, Polished Concrete, Stainless Steel, etc.
Love it when the food is prepared with a little extra time and care.
Love it when a place is off the beaten path yet has a good following.
Love it when I'm thinking this is the kind of place I'd open up some day.

mmmmm.....Breakfast Tacos....Happy Fathers Day to me....http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Would I change anything about Rooster Cafe? YES. I'd display a giant fiberglass cock on the roof - I love those. http://www.yelp.com/bi...

I had the hearty scramble and coffee.  i enjoyed it.  the coffee was good. the house water sits in a jug with a bunch if cucumbers floating around it it. it was nice and refreshing.  the menu warns you that each dish is made to order. I could taste the freshness and didn't feel that it took too long for it to get from the kitchen to mouth hole.

Whoa baby, you want the best breakfast/lunch ever for a great price. This simple but diverse menu has it all. Saturday and Sundays are perfect for a FAT Breakfast burrito that is just stuffed with everything you want in it. Wash that down with a full mini-bottle of champagne mimosa and you have started your weekend perfect. For the work week, go for lunch and try all of the sandwiches which are delicious, especially the Randolph, the French Dip, and most especially the Pastrami.

This place started small and slow but has blown up.. so it can be hard to find a spot in the lot, lines and wait can be long, but its definitely worth it. Get the breakfast burrito!

Ah, the simple pleasures... like a made to order breakfast sandwich on Texas toast.  The Rooster Café is a welcomed escape from hotel breakfasts offered to travelers staying along Bristol Street.  You can sit inside or outside, read the paper, sip a latte, and enjoy a sandwich for about $10.  I'll be back if I'm ever trapped at the Westin again.

My sister and I didn't want bagels for breakfast so we yelped this place and saw some good reviews.  We ordered 2 breakfast burritos because that seemed to be the most popular item.

Service: very friendly, although, I did want the Mexican mocha, but the espresso machine was broken.  He did give me a cup of coffee to go which was very nice.

Taste:  Eh, it was okay.  I didn't taste anything spectacular.  My burrito had hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, and avocado.  It was a bit bland.  I used a lot of Cholula and ketchup to make up for it.

It's rumored that they are open LATE LATE night on Fridays and Saturdays until 3am! on a Saturday night at 2:45am they were not. I know this because I made an attempt to stop by for some post-drinking food, hoping they'd be open so I could enjoy a breakfast burrito (sounded SO GOOD) but all the lights were out :(

On their doors read: Open daily 7am-3pm.. that's it.

Sadly, Carl's Jr. was our replacement meal for the night. :'(

I did, however, previously stop here last week for their breakfast and ordered a Veggie Scramble with potatoes and a Mexican Hot Chocolate. Veggie Scramble: pretty typical but still tasty.
Potatoes: YUM!!
MHC: Yummy cinnamon at first taste, then bland on the way down. mehhh

I'm gonna get my hands on that breakfast burrito though!! and we'll see if my feelings change for this place... :P

For my 200th review, I'm writing about... a wattle?

You know, it's that fleshy growth or loose skin dangling from the head or neck of certain animals, like the turkey or rooster. If you ever see a rooster in person, has it ever crossed your mind to give his wattle a gentle but firm tap and watch it flap back and forth? Do you think the rooster would be ticked off? Would I get pecked to death by his sharp beak as a result of flicking his wattle? So random, I know.

Of course, the real reason I bring up the wattle is because of the Rooster Cafe. The red logo on the menu and website clearly lets you know of it. And if you're wondering, no.... wattle isn't on the menu. We decided to check this place out for lunch. My stomach was growling from the night before, so by the time morning came around, I could hardly concentrate at work I was so hungry. I only had one thing on my mind... devouring the breakfast burrito.

The ingredients are simple and fresh, with essential components from a classic breakfast wrapped inside a warm, soft tortilla. Looking at the burrito at first glance, it looks like a white, fluffy, innocent-looking pillow. But after a few liberal dashes of red Cholula hot sauce and a smattering of homemade salsa, that burrito had just been severely violated and prepped for digestion.

Inside, there's a good balance of hash browns, scrambled eggs, cheese, and bacon. Not one ingredient is overpowering the other, and everything just blends well together. Starved, I tore through most of it in a matter of minutes, and ultimately struggled to finish off the last few bites. This was one serious breakfast burrito. On any other day, I could eat half for breakfast and save the rest for lunch. Then, I'd probably skip dinner.

I washed the burrito down with a generous cup of Mexican hot chocolate. Sweet, rich, with hints of extra cinnamon and spices that hit the back of your tongue. My friends enjoyed their sandwiches, and I'll be looking forward to trying the French Dip on my next visit. Service was quick and efficient, but could use a few more smiles, but hey I get it. It's all about the food. Food at very reasonable prices, I might add.

Oh, and I just wanted to give a quick shout out and fist bump to Yelp. Without you, I wouldn't have found this and hundreds of other review-worthy places to grub at. Here's to another 200 reviews. I'll happily flick your wattle any day of the week.

Had lunch here with my buddies Dru C. and Rob N.  This was sort of our own "yelp event".  We scope out local favorites via yelp and go together.  How romantic!  So today it was Rooster Cafe.

Roster Cafe is located on the corner of Saint Clair and Randolph St in Costa Mesa.  It's next door to Hush Hush Bang Bang Salon and Tin Lizzie Saloon.  Parking is limited so look for street parking.  The decor is simple and the service is average.  They have odd but cool hours (daily from 7am - 3pm and 10pm - 3am on Fri. and Sat. only).  Dinner is skipped completely but instead, they focus on breakfast, lunch and drunken late nights.  Pretty smart in my opinion.  The menu is simple with only breakfast and lunch.  I don't know about you but when I'm inebriated, I want breakfast.  They did their research.

I ordered the early riser (fried egg, bacon and american cheese between toasted sourdough).  I love fried egg so I had to try it.  The sourdough was thick and fresh.  The egg was perfectly cooked.  The bacon was crispy.  The cheese was thick, unlike those kraft singles you buy at Ralph's.  Because the cheese was so thick, it didn't melt all the way.  That's my only negative comment about the early riser.  The combination was very tasty and it had enough calories to fill me up.  Oh I almost forgot...enjoy it with some cholula hot sauce.  It's guuuud!  At $3.99, you really can't go wrong.

Dru C. had the breakfast burrito and Rob N. had the hot pastrami.  Both looked really good (I'm talking about the food!).  Check out their reviews.  Both are my yelp friends.

Enjoy!

Roosters can be often heard at the break of dawn.  The are often viewed as cocky and vain.

Here at Rooster Cafe, they too can be heard at the break of dawn as they are opened from 10PM - 3AM on Fridays and Saturdays.  What do they focus on that would have people there at the break of dawn?  Breakfast and Sandwiches!  They have your classic breakfast items such as: a bowl of cereal, french toast and a 2 egg plate (that comes with toast, bacon or sausage and my personal favorite rice or hash browns).  They also have your Americanized Breakfast Burrito mixed with all the usuals (please see  http://dru8.yelp.com as he does a better job describing it).

Today, I met two friends here for a lunch and was debating on whether I wanted to try the Pastrami sandwich or the Early Riser.   Since my friend Alan chose the Early Riser, I thought his critique of the sandwich would be good for me (see  http://nala.yelp.com for his review of the Early Riser).  So I thought this would be a good opportunity to see if the Pastrami was any good and boy was I surprised how good it tasted as I am not normally a Pastrami kind of guy.

The Pastrami Sandwich was served on two slices of thick rye bread that was lightly toasted to maintain that soft moist center of the bread.  They spread a light base of mustard over the rye and then place a bed of pickled cucumbers to compliment that generous serving of hot Pastrami.  What can I say but simple and delicious.  I think the best part for me were the cucumbers.  Why do I keep referring to them as cucumbers as opposed to the common reference pickles?  These cucumbers were different.  They were still crisp and had a refreshing taste unlike most pickles that have been brined to death in vinegar and left to ferment to acquire that salty sour taste.

The Rooster Cafe has reason to be cocky and vain.  They have a limited menu but they know what they are doing and it shows as this cafe was packed when we came.   Apparently Monday through Friday they are only open from 7AM - 3PM.  Maybe this is because they trying to minimize operation costs.  Maybe they need the time to rest for the next day...whatever the reason, Keep on "roosting" Rooster Cafe!

I think 'Big Cock Cafe' would be a better name. A little more in your face... so to speak!

Tried this place twice last week. Just a simple, clean, friendly place for a quick, low-drama breakfast or lunch.
Both times the people were really friendly. Had the breakfast burrito both times. What can I say... I like breakfast burritos. They serve the whole menu all day so had one for lunch on my second visit.
It's a pretty good burrito. Good size. Not greasy. It is a little on the dry side since there is no sauce in the burrito. I like ketchup on mine! yum!

The place has a cool, modern, minimalist decor. Either you get it or you don't.
It's called the Rooster Cafe, but I didn't see one cock anywhere!? hum?

Came here for breakfast a month ago.

Very modest menu, and the prices are good.  They do have some interesting menu items, including Mexican hot chocolate, and Portugese sausage (not in the same dish, mind you).

I ordered the hearty scamble.  Crispy bacon, egg, ham, sausage, cheese, onions with a side of hash browns.  It wasn't anything spectacular.  The prices are good, and the portions are pretty decent.  Service was great and the owner and staff are friendly.

The dining area is simple.  Order first, then sit anywhere.

People here at work love this place. I love it too! But the food is not healthy - it's fresh - but not healthy. My co-workers love the Early riser and I love the Portuguese scramble or Early riser without mayo, egg white, and ham instead of bacon. The food here is H-U-G-E!!! And it does taste so good. But today I found out something - they offer brown rice with the portuguese scramble!!! NICE!!! Love brown rice!!!
But just make sure they are charging the right price - when you change some ingredients or add extras - make sure they charge the right amount. Sometimes it's so busy and they get confused - specially when the order is big. ;)
But the service is good and the food - YUMMY!

Rooster café:

I'm not amused.  I don't hate this place.  I also don't love it.  It's sort of like the guy/girl at a club who isn't so hot where you do the "Parker Lewis Can't Lose" double take, but also not ugly to the point where you just can't help but stare.

We ordered:

French Dip (just under $7.00)
The French Dip was good.  The bread was slightly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside.  The sauce was more like a gravy sauce than an au jus sauce, which was still good.  It didn't come with any sides, just a somewhat small sandwich on a plate.  I was hungry within 2 hours.

Portuguese scramble with Rice (around $5.00)
I thought that maybe it's because I tried the very flavorful French Dip before trying the Portuguese scramble, but even my BF agreed it was very bland.  This is probably something he could've made at home, which makes it a dumb idea for us to order at a restaurant to begin with, but somehow...we thought it would be magical.

I don't think we'll be returning.  There are just too many breakfast/lunch type establishments to try, and this isn't worth a return trip for us.  We thought that the limited menu would mean that the very few would be out of this world, but it just wasn't.

Wait: 30 minutes elapsed between time of order and actually getting our food.  When we went, there wasn't that many people, so it surprised me that it took that long.

Service:  Not stellar or bad.

Came here on a Tuesday early afternoon (11am) so parking was a breeze.

I got the egg sandwich, my beau got the french toast plate. I was a bit bummed at the amount of bacon on my sandwich. It seemed like a few crumbles rather than actual slices. Other than that, it was a tasty sandwich, toasted just right. I was also bummed by the amount of sausage that came on my beau's french toast platter (although the supposedly "one" egg really looked like two-three, so they definitely didn't skimp there!). The sausage was good, but I assume that the side of sausage for $3 or so would be the same portion that he got on his plate, in which case it probably wouldn't be worth it. I didn't try his french toast, but he ate it all.

I really did enjoy the service, and the man behind the counter (and often not behind the counter, since he was so energetic with making sure the patrons were happy and stocked with utensils and the like) greeted us very warmly, and even with a hint of sarcasm ("take your time folks, I'd be standing here whether you came in or not"), which really striked our fancy (since I am definitely one for a wry and sarcastic sense of humor!).

Their menu was small, but filled with goodies that I crave. I would be excited to come for lunch and try the French Dip or Cobb Salad, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here (we were in the area so we decided to give this place a shot).

I would recommend it if you're driving by, but I woudln't make a trip out of it.

Stopped in here Friday night around 9 or so craving a sandwich and didn't realize its another restaurant at that time. They called the place Boricua-I think? Anyhow the food was all Tapas style, not really what I was looking for so skipped out. I guess next time I should pay attention to the hours.

Does anyone know about this? Have they tried it?

Great lunch spot that can also fill a hankering for breakfast ... been coming here for a little over a year and although all the items in the menu sound good, I've never strayed from either the Randolph (can't beat Turkey BLT w/Avocado - I opt for Squaw rather than the Ciabatta), breakfast burrito (with Portuguese sausage) and the two egg breakfast plate (again w/portuguese sausage) ... lately, however, I have been having the breakfast burrito exclusively - so much food for so little coin ... the fresh pico is a good compliment to the burrito and although it lacks a little punch, there's a handy bottle of Cholula provided to fill the void ... only issue for lunch is the small parking lot ...

I came here for an espresso drink just before I getting a hair cut.  The coffee was average for OC.

Ventured here for lunch today, and thankful I did.

I tried the French Dip, which, frankly, was pretty amazing. With the typical dip sandwich, one anticipates crunchy french rolls waiting mercilessly for a dip in the ah choo pool for a good softening. This bread somehow transcended all other french rolls. It was warm and soft, sort of like, uh... warm and soft french bread. The sandwich itself was impeccable without even the juice.

"What? You no like-a the juice?!"

I like-a the juice fine, I'm just saying that one could enjoy the sandwich as a stand alone. The beef was tender, and the mushrooms were not overpowering, as sometimes happens. Perfectly melted Swiss cheese and grilled onions. OH YES. Even still, with the juice, it took this sandwich to a whole different level. Try it.

I also ordered the soup of the day: Chicken Noodle from a can. Ugh. But the soup came with a nice little roll lightly coated with butter, crispy outside and warm inside.

They really kick ass in the bread department. I look forward to trying some of their other sandwiches and their breakfasts.

If you come here for lunch, be prepared for a serious wait. We arrived at 12:15p. Food took about 25 mins to come out. Understaffed in the kitchen and inefficient. But friendly regardless. I'm glad I waited.

My friends at work love this place...but I am not quite sure why.  It might just be because there are not that many other good lunch options near our office.  The food is simple and often needs a couple dashes of salt to give it some flavor.  Admittedly, breakfast is probably the best part of the menu.

I have been here about 6 times and 3 of them involved waiting for about 30 minutes before our food showed up.  Someone told me once that the best things in life are worth waiting for....  Definitely not the case at Rooster.

I would say that Rooster Cafe is not bad. It's not my first choice, but I've eaten here twice and both experiences have been pretty good. It's simple, with a small menu, and very affordable.

On my first visit I had one of the specials which was a salad. I don't remember anything about it since this was months ago, except that it was pretty good.

I ate lunch there today and went for the breakfast burrito with sausage. That thing was delicious. Usually when I think of breakfast burritos, I imagine cheesy grease-filled tortillas that drip heart attacks out from the bottom as you eat them. The breakfast burrito here is not greasy AT ALL. I added some cholula to mine to kick it up a bit. And it's a very affordable 5 bucks.

I would consider Rooster Cafe the type of place I would grab lunch from during the work week, but it probably wouldn't make the cut for me on the weekends, when I expect things to be a little more special.

First impression of the place: all the customers looked like they produce independent film. hahaha. i don't know what it is.  they all looked like that =P

mmmmm~ breakfast burrito was really good.. .but not the mexican greasy kind, it was more of upscale breakfast burrito in costa mesa.  like some of th review said, it had clean feeling to the egg... it was really good. i wish they gave us more salsa with that breakfast burrito tho.  thank god there are hot sauces on each table=)  my bf also ordered breakfast tacos with hash browns. they were also very delish!!  egg and cheese on top of warm corn tortilla and topped with avocados.  yum yum yum!! i LOVE avocados!!  the hashbrowns were really good too, not too burnt like other fast food places.

I tried mexican hot chocolate for the first time. it was REALLY sweet.  very very vey sweet. and had spices on it. i should've known it had spices on it=P  if you like uber spicy hot coco, then this item is for you~ it was a bit too sweet for me.  i added some milk and it was drinkable.  =P

I have found love, and it comes in the form of a mexican hot chocolate with a shot of espresso.....

Rooster Cafe has the most awesome service ever. They will always offer you a cup of coffee while you are browsing the menu....which I went for my first trip there with my boyfriend....and he ordered the mexican hot chocolate. Damn, was I jealous!!  Anyway, I've been hooked on the breakfast burrito....delicious! My favorite part though is probally the pico de gallo! Fab!!

Next time back, I had learned my lesson. Mexican hot chocolate....the added espresso shot was an added bonus for me. Rhea S. came with and got a scrambler. It was good. The BFF also got huevos rancheros which looked delicious.

Yeah, I'll be back.

My brain appreciates the small and simple menu. It makes my job a lot easier. Although everything sounds delicious, the menu is small enough to where you know you can come back a few times and try everything that you want. Definitely a plus for those indecisive individuals :)

I was first introduced to Rooster Cafe by Mariel C. She (along with my big bro) brought me home a breakfast burrito. The ironic thing was, I had made myself a breakfast burrito before they arrived and was just about to start eating when they walked in! Talk about perfect timing. So I ditched my sad attempt at a breakfast burrito and went for the good stuff.

I was impressed.
Cheese ... good
Eggs ... good
Bacon ... good
Hash browns ... good
fresh pico de gallo ... really good

What's not to like?

If you're not in the mood for a breakfast burrito, the hearty scramble is money!!Complete the meal with some of their Mexican hot chocolate!

I was in the mood for a breakfast burrito and after hearing about The Rooster Cafe from fellow yelpers, I decided to give it a try. I ordered the breakfast burrito with sausage and my bf ordered the breakfast burrito with bacon.

Both burritos were really great! They were not greasy at all, very fresh tasting, filling, and big! I love that they serve the salsa on the side.

I also ordered iced tea which was freshly brewed and delicious!

I really want to go back and try the French dip that everyone has raved about.

Thanks to Santa Claus I am a Wii widower. That @#%*! Animal Crossing City Folk game has all but ruined my life with the girlfriend, J. Today J hopped out of bed and started playing her game at 7:35 AM. She actually was up at 7:30 AM talking to her sister about the features of the game and developing her strategy for collecting fossils and bugs. Being the wonderful boyfriend that I am I let her have her fun and didn't bother her. Then about 9:30 AM she starts this conversation with me while guiding her Mii through her make believe city called Sydney.

J: Sweetie, sweetie, sweetie! What are we going to do for breakfast?

Me: What would you like to do?

J: Breakfast burrito!

Me: OK, we can do that.  Where do you want to go?

J: Uh uh. You go pick it up.

Me: You want me to go get you a breakfast burrito so you can keep playing your game?

J: [unusually long period of silence] Huh? Yes, breakfast burrito.

As I headed for the door I heard J cry out, "Hot chocolate tooooooo!"

Thanks Nintendo!

Rooster Cafe has been on the short list of places to try for breakfast and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to get one of their infamous breakfast burritos. I was in luck that they weren't as crowded as some of the other reviews had mentioned. I parked right in front and didn't have to wait to place my order.

Right off they bat the people working at Rooster Cafe could not have been nicer. After placing my order (two breakfast burritos, large OJ and a Mexican Hot Chocolate) the guy working the register took my name. He then proceeded to address me by my name. I know this bothers some people but I really like that touch. It is very comforting and makes you feel like you have been going there for years.

After a few minutes my food was ready. I was handed my food, gave a fist bump to my new friend and was off to feed the video game addict on my couch.

The Red Rooster breakfast burrito is very good bordering on excellent. They do a fantastic job of layering the eggs, potatoes, cheese and meat. This is the most efficient way to get a little of everything in every bite and the sign of a place that knows how to build a proper burrito.

We ordered one with bacon and one with sausage and cut them in half so we could try both. Size wise these are one of the bigger breakfast burritos in Orange County. I was definitely full after mine, J couldn't finish all of hers. J was impressed by the fluffy nature of the eggs in the burritos and I have to agree that the extra attention given to the eggs improved the flavor of the dish.

J is a hot chocolate snob so I was a little worried that the Mexican Hot Chocolate wouldn't win her over. I decided to not tell her it had origins south of the border and figured if she didn't like it that I could enjoy it because I love Mexican hot chocolate. J proclaimed it a winner and said she'd go back just to have their hot chocolate.

The orange juice was fresh squeezed and that was a very pleasant surprise.

I don't think I could have gotten more out of a first visit. I think the best way to sum up Rooster Cafe is they get it. They know what they are good at and they aren't trying to be something they are not. I will definitely go back and try more things on their menu. I can see a 5th star in their future.

Came here Saturday morning after reading reviews from fellow yelpers.

Of course I order the breakfast burrito with both bacon and sausage.  Really good portion and clean taste.  I've had a breakfast burrito at other places like Farmer Boys, which I thought was good, but those were really greasy.  This place is just good food, cooked well.  Plus the pico de gallo they serve with it is really fresh and tasty.

The BF had the early riser, he wished that there was more bacon on it but hes a true bacon lover and if they put as much bacon has he wanted on the sandwich i'm sure they'd lose money.

The mexican hot chocolate was SO GOOD, it was so richly flavored. And so fulfilling in your mouth.  My only gripe is that toward the bottom there were clumps of chocolate - like it wasn't dissolved enough, but thats only a small gripe.

Service is great!  Really friendly and helpful.

VERDICT - Defenitely a must try for good priced breakfast if you're in the area. For OC - there's not a lot of good breakfast spots so its a gem for us.

MUST TRY - break fast burrito with the pico and mexican hot chocolate!

This might be my favorite lunch spot near work.  Food is great... everything I've had anyways.  And you really can't beat a place that serves breakfast all day.  I love their chicken wrap, their 2 egg breakfast and every sandwich I've tried.  Simple menu, good prices, and great food.  Not a bad combo.
