Holy Roo Bar Batman, not sure what happened to this place but I love it. Roo Bar is now offering a variety of gluten free options sandwiches, pizza, chicken strips, they have a separate fryer completely dedicated for the gluten free stuff.
They now have a couple gluten free beer options New planet and Bards.
The husband had the "crack" wings and the "golden dragon" wings both of which he thought phenomenal, I had the sweet potato fries spiced with cinnamon and sugar served with a side of mango chutney.
It is perfect little to watch football, hockey or any sport really...
Way to step up your game, if you are gluten free and looking for good bar food and if you like great food in general Roo Bar has it -

They were out of a lot of stuff on the menu...bbq pork sliders, pretzels, some kind of fish, and a few other things.
Nachos...very good
Bacon and blue burger dipped in hot sauce...interesting, edible but nothing great
Chicken tenders...were awesome last time and this time drenched in grease, not edible
Fries...handcut and fresh. Boyfriend raved about them all night
Tator tots...nice and cripsy, served a whole mound with the burger
Service was ALOT better, it was great. Waiter/bartender was fast and attentive.
This place seems to be hit or miss. Has good and bad with each visit.1 Previous Review: Show all »

* Average location
* Drinks can be a hit or miss - wavering between watered down or perfect.
* The food wavers between 2 to 3.5 stars. The menu is impressive for a bar, but sometimes a touch stale. The wing sauces are amazing! Perfect for when one is a touch inebriated.
* Service is A- OK, definitely get more attention when seated at the bar.
* The last time we were there, the crowd was odd - middle aged, gum chewing Barbies with teased hair, neon talons and rather abrasive demeanour. Out on a night with their lesser halves who looked bored and sweaty.
* The place could benefit from some cleaning.
Overall, hard to find, but good to remember when one craves spicy wings or a cheap drink. -

The place has the worst bar food Ever.
From frozen salsa to old stale chips . And don't get me started about anything that has chicken. Totally disgusting.
I have been to the place on several occasions and tried to give them many chances to make decent not great food but they are definitely on my don't eat there list forever. YuckComment from John Z. of Roo Bar 6/30/2011

I pretty much dig this place. The staff is always awesome and their nachos are super awesome and they layer the toppings so you're not scraping toppings off the plate when you get to the last few chips.
Yay Roo Bar! -

Wasn't sure what to expect, which was probly a good thing.
We went in on a Sunday night, didn't feel like cooking and had a tasty meal. I felt bad for the bartender looked like he was alone, and it was surprisingly crowded for a sunday night (at least to me)
We had the fried pickles, hard to go wrong. Nicole had a pizza with a salad on top that she liked, and i had a grilled cheese with bacon.. Yeah it was as good as you're imagining it right now.
Certainly an interesting crowd, especially the people who had their toddler, hope her hearing is ok as cuz Roo Bar is definitely loud.
Being pretty close to the house, I think we'll stop by from time to time because the atmosphere is perfect for coming in, taking a load off and enjoying a beer or three :) -

Great sportsbar! High points - menu, beers, and great specials. Only downside is the seating is a little strange for watching the big screens. Some funky tables are set up that don't sit too many people.
We had the cheese curds - yummy and wings. They offer lots of sauces for the wings and we really liked the mustard and crack sauce.
A friend had the taco pizza and another had the veggie sandwich. Both were happy. -

Two Star Food
Sure, it's a bar with a pool table and a Golden Tee arcade game so why would I expect decent food? I know I shouldn't expect decent food, but you do serve food, so why don't you try to make it edible?
I ordered the ONO burger that goes by the same description of Red Robin's Bonzai Burger, it's nothing like that. It said that there would be pineapple, swiss, and teriyaki sauce on it and perhaps there was but it was poorly executed. The burger itself was dry and tasteless, there was one sad little pineapple ring was also tasteless, and no teriyaki sauce in sight. When I asked for a side of teriyaki, they gave me a liquid that lacked viscosity completely. The fries that were a rugged fresh cut, which I generally love, were dried out and were the best part of the meal.
Otherwise, as a bar, it was ok. The staff, though friendly enough, was not enough to care for the amount of business that came in. It took about a half hour to get my order in, and then I was told that the kitchen was backed up and would take time for my order to be ready. -

A sea of tchotchkes hang suspended throughout this clean, hip pool hall and bar. Some of the areas better tasting bar foods are on the menu for those craving high-end deep-fry should definitely stop in here. Another bonus for those looking for malted barley and hops, is the establishments selection of brews on tap.

Definitely agree with Darika about the midwest vibe...I felt like I was back at countless sports bars that litter any midwestern city north of the Missouri.
That in mind, they had great drink specials and really good appetizers, fried Wisconsin Cheddar Cheese? Oh hells yea.
We were in for a treat open mic night, some really good talent rolls through here, usually to perform a trimmed down acoustic version of their more popular songs, the night I showed up a few guys from No Bueno were at it.
Had a good time, wouldn't mind heading back, I can never get enough fried cheese in my life... -
Review from Katie L.
Went back last night and had stuffed mushrooms (breadcrumbs, crab) with fried Wisconsin cheese atop. Yum.
Also induldged in some type of wheat beer, I should really try to remember these things...it was pretty alright but not as good as the one I just had at Wynkoop.
The menu is fun. Everything looks delicious. Everything I have eaten proved to be scrump.
Ended the night with a Schlitz. Classy.1 Previous Review: Show all »

The bar food here is some of the best I've ever had! I should mark it down because of its location, but the food is so incredible that I'm still giving it five stars.
The spinach pizza is what I've always gotten at Roo Bar (even in the Cherry Creek days). It's a white pizza with fresh spinach tossed with a balsamic vinaigrette. It sounds a little strange, but it's amazing.
Since their move to W. 38th, I've tried a few other things on the menu. The Wisconsin Cheese Soup is super good. I don't know if it's homemade but it sure tastes like it.
And the chili cheese fries are incredible as well. The fries are made from scratch and it's pretty obvious because they're so good. (Take note Indulge French Bistro, if a small bar can make its fries from scratch, so can you!)
The only thing that you could mark it down for is its location next to a train yard and a La Quinta. Pretty soon though, it won't be such a bad location. That whole area is really building up. -

Portland, OR
I've been going to Roo Bar for a long time and when the Cherry Creek one closed I was lost. I was a woman without a dive. What was I to do? I tried some other places, but nobody was Roo Bar.
Until Roo Bar came back!
You know you're a fixture at a bar when you walk in after not seeing your favorite Bartender for a year (BRANDON IS THE GREATEST) and he remembers that you like your martinis extra dirty with bombay sapphire and a couple of cocktail onions.
Aaaah, I was home. And this one has windows!
For those who remember, the old Roo Bar was neat because it was a secret little bar in a secret little basement in Cherry Creek. It had purple Pool Tables and fabulous art work. The new Roo Bar is not so secret, nestled in the strip mall over by the merging of the freeways at Park Ave and 38th. As much as I miss the secret atmosphere and the word of mouth buzz, I'm digging the new spot.
Oh, and they have shuffleboard now!
The bar is beautiful, poured concrete, as is the floor. Everything is so clean. The patio is fabulous. And Brandon is still a fixture. They got some new comfy sofas, they still have that great artwork.
Hallelujah, we are home!
Did I mention there's a parking lot? I think that's the best part. Parking for free.
The food is great as it always has been. I've always liked the pizzas, but haven't had one since the last place. I also used to eat the fried cheese curds, which are still on the menu, as are the jalapeno poppers. They still do all of these things and they are still delicious, and as long as you aren't a dick about it, they'll give you custom orders. I got nachos without cheese and sour cream. They were still good.Listed in: The Places I Go Out

Review from Darika S.
Reminded us of the midwest with all the decor. The chicken tenders with crack sauce was very tasty with a kick. I enjoyed the crispy nachos. I added jalapenos and I think I got a jar of them on my nachos, but that's fine with me, but maybe a warning to others. There are two pool tables, usually people playing beer pong in the corner and a shuffle board at the end of the room. The bartender was nice and attentive. They also serve cheese curds which they should be being a Wisconsin like bar. The night we went, there weren't any crazy people, it wasn't that crowded and were able to get a pool table. I'm not into very crowded places anyways so we'll be back.
It is a little hard to get there for the first time. -

I really wanted to like this place...how many times have I said that!
I drive past it all the time when i go to Starbucks and when i get gas by my house and have I never gone in (it always looks empty), so I figured I would stop by and check them out tonight for some wings, since i had to get gas and didnt want to deal with the hassle of downtown parking.
The 2 stars are for the for the "Crack" wings which were really good, however, I also had the "Grandma z's" wings which were absolutely inedable! The sauce was all chalky and pastie!
So why wont i go back you ask?
BECAUSE THEY CHARGED ME AN EXTRA $1 FOR THE PRIVELEDGE OF A TAKEOUT ORDER!!!!!
WTH? My order was $14 for 18 wings, so what makes them think they can charge me an extra 7% fee for the plastic bag and styrofoam box?The worst part about it is that this fee is not mentionioned on the website, menu, or by the person that took my phone order, nor was I ever presented with a check until I asked for one....it is like they thought I was stupid and wouldnt notice.
I hope they invest that $1 well as it will be the last ONE that they get from me!!
Bellow is the "Apologetic" message the manager sent to me to explain these costs....
"Kirk, I'm sorry that you feel so violated for having to pay $1 for a to go charge, many restaurants have a similar policy, as we want you to dine in and enjoy a beer or two. The to go charge is just meant to promote that. I often waive the to go charge for regulars and neighbors if they simply inform me. The charge was never meant to insult your intelligence or be sneaky or underhanded. The fact that 4 quarters angers you so much is disappointing. Trust me we are not getting rich by getting an extra dollar from each and every to go order, as most of our food is dine in. We are a bar first and foremost as our name suggests. Rent costs money, upkeep costs money, payroll costs money, the electric bill costs money and sadly TO GO containers cost money. Keep in mind if you take one item or 10 items to go, we charge you a mere dollar. Sometimes you come out ahead and sometimes you lose a little bit. Please don't be so upset and give us another chance. Introduce yourself and I'd be glad to buy you lunch to make up for the injustice you feel has befallen you.
Sincerely, John R. Zelzer"
Nope still not going back! -

Perfect Packer bar! Why go to Swanky's where it's super crowded when this place has awesome service, great drink specials and a Packer pool table? I won't hold it against them that the Vikings table is right next to it. The food was alright for a bar and I wouldn't have any issues going back for drinks, food and of course games!

Yikes Roo, your service is awful. I was hoping that this would be a great hangout for apps, drinks and football! I went many times this last season and the service, UGH. Only reason I go is for the Green Bay Packer feel, cheese curds and the wings. Service slow, staff unattentive and we even had to take our dirty dishes that sat there forever over to the bus area by the bar. Tacky. Hope you get it together before the hopeful 2011 season.

Never went to the original Roo Bar in Cherry Creek, but I am a fan of the newest incarnation. Location is a little odd, but close to home, so not complaining! Food is probably best when a little tipsy - don't think I could enjoy the Redneck Seafood platter sober. The spicy chicken pizza was excellent, as were the jalapeno poppers with grape jelly - again, both best if in a mildly-extremely drunken state. The place is roomy with a few TVs, friendly staff (even the cook was out talking to us), and a great selection of games. It even has the first Big Buck Hunter SAFARI game I've ever seen - FUN FUN FUN!! I will certainly be back on a regular basis, and not only because they always have $2 PBRs.

Review from Eli S.
Denver, CO
So a friend of mine invited me to Roo Bar tonight and since it's literally down the street, I was open to it! Let me give you the blow by blow on how this went down: We walked in to to 12 people, one of which was the bartender. We are greeted with a "How you guys doin" from the bartender. We kind of walk around aimlessly because it's not clear if somebody is going to seat us or we're suppose to figure that out on our own. We take heed and grab a booth toward the back. Half way across the bar are 7 people playing beer pong and you can tell they had to live close or knew somebody that worked there because there was no advertisement for beer pong on Monday nights and the bar is relatively new, plus they were the only ones playing on the only table. Anyway- what was most annoying about that situation is that they kept shouting. Now I get when you're drinking and you're playing a game that it can get exciting but this shouting was over the music, TV and other patrons' conversation. Shouting that staff would normally try to control but wasn't. My friends and I start to discussing schools and one of my friends pulls out some printed information and puts it on the table. The bartender comes up and tries to get our drink order and does it by throwing coasters over what we were reading; directly on! Doesn't apologize, doesn't move them, doesn't care. We were so taken by shouting and the missing menus that we didn't have that quite ready, we had been sitting down for like 15 seconds. The bartender gives us a minute and comes back. At the moment he approaches the table my friend found the menus tucked in a clip at the end of the table, (they looked like drink menus but whatever) she asks "Do you have a dinner menu?" He says "...That's whats in your hand" ... then... YEAAAAAH!!!!!!! (more screaming) I start looking over the menu and there is NOTHING even remotely healthy to eat. I would have to special order something. McDonalds even has a chicken salad. I didn't understand how a significant portion of the menu was fried. Now, I would compare this type of establishment to say, Old C's which i love to eat at. Even Old C's has got some healthier dishes. When the bartender brought the water, he set them in the middle of the table and i got half of a face full of half arm, half armpit. That's when I got my keys and walked home. (This story is true, nothing is fabricated or exaggerated. This is how it went down)
So I didn't care for the options in food, the service, the atmosphere or the decor (there was an old Avocado colored sofa you could take a seat on if you wished) I think had I known that the bartender doubled as the waiter, I would have made a PB&J sandwich at home instead.
If you like rude bartender/waiters, not just loud but extra loud drunks and an array of fried, pre-frozen foods, EAT AT ROO BAR!! :) -

I used to go to the Roo Bar way back in the day when it was in Cherry Creek. I mourned the day when I went and it was no longer and never bothered to drive all the way over to the new one. Until tonight. The new Roo Bar has lost some character but still has great service, cheap drinks, and a good jukebox. I don't know about the sign... and the windows, but I could get used to it.

So after driving by Roo Bar a million times and wondering how a place that sits at Park and i-25 could be so consistently busy, I decided to stop wondering and check it out for myself. I stopped in on Wednesday which happens to be bar trivia night, an obvious bonus. (For the record, I thought we were terrible at trivia, but we somehow managed to snag 3rd place and a $10 gift certificate.) We stuck with the $2.50 PBR drafts and found ourselves a table in the middle of the place. Roo Bar has somewhat of a Wisconsin/Midwestern theme which was enjoyable as I am a native of Michigan and more recently lived in Chicago. Everyone at the bar was really friendly and shared with us that you often see the same faces at this spot as it has many regulars. They also played really fun music- it isn't often that Warren G's "Regulators" gets play time anymore. The food was weak and I wouldn't suggest ordering the cheese curds (nothing like the kind you buy in Wisconsin), the jalapeno poppers, or the pulled pork sliders. The menu also lists Frito's a bunch of times, so that maybe should have been my first clue that this is a spot exclusively for drinking. There aren't many places like Roo Bar close to LoDo and we were pleasantly surprised by how much fun we had.

oh man. i had a friend coming to town, and i'm still a newbie around denver. i was looking for somewhere off the beaten track to go post-dinner, on a thursday, where there were possible diversions but conversation was still possible. the roo bar had 5 stars, so i wrote it down as a possible. first we get turned around trying to get there, and when we do arrive, i understand why. this place is in a strip mall! from the patio my view is: starbucks, a conoco station, and the signs for the highway. if i wanted to have a bar experience that was like being stuck carless at an out of town hotel with a sports bar that borders a freeway, then roo bar is just what i would be looking for. the truth is, i'm never really looking for that, even if i'm stuck in a hotel carless next to a freeway. and did i mention the sports bar part? the inside was guys and sports tvs blaring...maybe the patio will allow me to get away? nothing doing, even if you can't see the omnipresent televisions anymore, there are speakers out there that rival any freeway noise --or conversation--you could hope to have. to be fair, the service was prompt enough, but it is a disservice to call this place "cool" on any level unless you really feel best surrounded by blaring sports commentation and anonymous chain stores. it was a little embarrassing to my reputation with my out-of-town friends, but a newbie mistake. it will be a source of razzing for years so i'm sure i won't forget it, but i have no plans to ever return.
