This is by far the nicest Macaroni Grill I have ever been to! It's almost ridiculous how nice it is. If you've been to any Macaroni grills in Los Angeles you would understand. Also, this place has a completely different menu the the chains in Los Angeles. It's a little more pricey at this location but i think its worth it just for the way the restaurant is set up. We sat outside, on the lawn. Not on a patio or a deck or anything. On the lawn! It was really awesome. The food was pretty good as well. Definitely a cute place to go to on a nice sunny day.

When I walked up to this impressive heritage mansion, I swallowed hard. I was there to meet friends for a birthday dinner and I thought I was in WAY over my price range. But that was totally not the case. The place smelled so wonderful when I walked in, and when I was seated at the brown-paper covered table and handed crayons to draw on it with I realized my charge card could stop sweating.
Unfortunately, nobody at our table of eight enjoyed their meal. It's an Italian place, but everyone who ordered pasta had it overcooked. Went for a trio - a meal plan with a salad, a main and a dessert ($21.99). I got a dish with prawns, pasta and spinach. The pasty pasta was in a really rich sauce, the prawns were overcooked and chewy and the spinach was just a handful of raw leaves chucked on the side of the plate. I was pretty disappointed.
They should work a lot harder to live up to the beautiful building in which they're located. -

While the Macaroni Grill at the Mansion is breathtakingly beautiful - don't let that fool you!
Walking into the mansion I was in awe; but after waiting (no exaggerating here) about 3 minutes for a hostess to even notice us, I was turned off. It was a Wednesday night and I needed a table for 4 to which the hostess barks, "well, do you have reservations?" When we responded with a no, she just turned and walked off WITHOUT even saying, "one minute please" or anything!
When we finally get a table (in the corner of the restaurant I should add), I happen to look up to the ceiling where all I see is cobwebs. Our server comes to our table, and pours us some oil and vinegar in a plate and then just leaves. No "hello", no "my name is...", and worst of all, NO CRAYONS to draw on the table with, which is a signature Macaroni Grill perk!
To top off this experience after we finished eating some mediocre food, a spider fell onto our table from the ceiling, and another bug was found in my friends sangria!
The only thing that I commend the Macaroni Grill for is their valet guy; even standing in the rain - he was amazingly friendly and helpful. -

It's almost worth eating here just to see the digs. Romano's Macaroni Grill is housed in a stone mansion built in 1900 by sugar baron B. T. Rogers. It's a fun and casual chain restaurant with an Italian-influenced menu. These are not highly complicated Italian dishes; the food is simple, understandable, and reliable. In the summer, you can't pass up the chance to dine outside on the beautiful garden patio. But make sure you do at least a walk thru of the stunning interior, filled with handcrafted wood detailing and stained glass. I had the best Bellini of my life in the garden. So yes this is a chain, but this location is special and highly recommended. The frozen bellini is a must.

You'd think that a mansion in the heart of the city would cost a fortune for dinner. And I hate giving bad reviews. But you know that when a mansion gets rented out to host Halloween parties and other functions -- it's bad news. This restaurant could be so amazing. The setting is awesome. The lawn dining is beautiful in the summer. But the food. You go to a restaurant to eat and since you're paying more than you would be if you cooked at home, you expect something great. It's not very expensive, but the pastas are overcooked, mushy and not innovative. The sauces are also blah. Nothing really Italian about it at all. They used to have opera singers during dinner, but then the last time I went they didn't have them. So yes, save your money and tummy for pasta on Commercial Drive instead and grab some sushi in the area.
