Normally we enjoy Macaroni Grill. I especially like their Insalata Blu. My wife usually has the Spinach Salad. Today both our salads were sub par. My Insalata Blu had maybe a teaspoon of blue cheese and a total of 3 walnuts. I have had this multiple times and I have never not enjoyed it. This time is was just barely okay. The mix of flavors was not right.
My wife got the Spiinach Salad and instead of having Prosciuttio on it, it had no meat at all. We ate the entrees and then told our nearly always absent waiter about our salads and he said "you should have said something." Well, we WERE saying something! Anyway, the service has declined and they can not seem to fix a halfway decent salad according to their own recipe. Check your order before your waiter leaves as you won't see him again until it is time to pay the check. -

We have frequented this particular MG for the last two years, and they seem to have an ebb and flow to their quality and service. There are times the spaghetti and meatballs comes with one or two pathetic little meatballs. Other times there are six or seven. IF you bring the problems to the attention of the server and manger if necessary, they generally take care of it. Of course, the problem should not occur in the first place, but stuff happens. So, if your meal comes out prepared well, it will probably taste pretty good. I also enjoy the seafood pasta, it is light and the little roasted sherry tomatoes add a nice acidity to the salty seafood. The little lemon cake is a small, nice refreshing treat on a hot day.

I've only been to the Macaroni Grill in Columbia, so I can't compare it to others. However, the food is really good. I usually always get the mushroom ravioli. I feel like the service is a little too personal. I don't really like when the servers act like they want to be my new best friends or when they right their names on the paper table cover with a crayon. I probably won't ever need to say their names. I do appreciate that everyone is friendly, though. One more thing I like about this restaurant is how they package the leftover food you want to take home. They put it in a round tin with a cover that gives you directions on how to reheat your food. Perfect. I always ruin my leftovers because I never know how to reheat them.

I don't usually eat at chain restaurants, because I prefer to spend my money at locally-owned places, but I was impressed. I was meeting a friend from out-of-town and the location is easy to find from the interstate. Really good fetticini alfredo, great salad, plenty of leftovers for the next day, well-trained staff, good bread, and good ambiance. That's where we meet now.
