I'm pretty much always coming here once every two weeks or more--all because I freaking get a $5 off coupon two times a week. Lolol so tempting. The only reason I come here is so satisfy my craving for their highly-addicting rosemary bread...their pastas are okay. My bf and I ordered their Alfredo fettuccine with chicken and it really lacked the gooey sauce and Parmesan. The Bibb & Blue salad is really good with added chicken...I just felt it needed more dressing.

Anyways, go with the make-your-own-pasta and you'll probably be good to go.

Come here during lunch hours, it's the best time to go since you'll be avoiding the stampede and lack of service during dinner.

And never, ever, ever take the booths that line parallel to the kitchen...they're small and you'll hate eating there.

    Romano's Macaroni Grill
    Friday the 13th - 7:30pm - Anaheim Hills
Chain restaurant parking lot - 3 times around the lot, no parking spaces
    My wife didn't hang up her phone - she's inside - I can hear her - it's a 40 minute wait.

    I'm in Yelper Hell.

Why are we even here? - main reason - a gift card - and a new place to try.

My wife says I need to disclose that I had barely slept the night before; was grumpy and tired - as a disclaimer.

In my defense, the next day I read Fern B's review - she was there the same night, a same time, and had almost the same experience!

Restaurant was packed - looked like a bunch of big family groups everywhere - not people looking for quality - just looking to feed everyone.
It's so crowded they're out of beepers (for your table) and there's no room in the place- only standing room is in a corner of the foyer between the inner and outer front door - we need to stay alert and move when the door opens, so we don't get hit- there's another couple in the other corner - they have a better spot, their door doesn't get used as much, wish I could be stuck in that corner -  I'm so glad I'm here in Hell. Yay - they left  - quick honey, let's get that spot! Best part of the evening - getting to snuggle with my wife in the "good" corner.

One of the host's is walking around calling names - looking for parties of 2 - it seems several parties of 2 have left. We start popping off every time he comes with "ya - that's us!" After a bit, he asks our name, then he looks at his pad and says "I think you're next" - sweet - wait ended up being about 25 minutes.

We were taken to a nice booth - tables were packed with groups and pushed together - people looked crowded, I was glad to be away from them - however I found the booth to be uncomfortable - the back of the seat was too straight - vertically - and too far away from the table.

Server's have a cool move - writes his name on the paper table covering - with a crayon - kind of like artist signing his creation. That was the best part of the service. If I provided such lackluster service - I would have signed someone elses name! I felt rushed - when we wanted to look at the menu a bit longer it took forever for him to come back - this was the way the whole service went - spend as little time with the customer as possible - then nowhere to be found. This got worse as the night went on and business slowed. He only had one other table, a bunch of other servers and bus persons were hanging around talking - our guy - was MIA. The other servers in the area weren't doing much for their tables either. It seemed like that was pretty standard.

BTW- I worked as a busboy, server, waiter, bartender and manager for 3 restaurants over a period of 10 years while I went through college (aka my 20's).

I had several other problems with the service - they give you olive oil for dipping in a dish - the waiter grinds pepper into it - but didn't ask us if we wanted it - fine for me, but not for my wife. Luckily, there was a bottle on the table to pour some for her. People say the bread is really good - it was OK in my opinion - I felt it had a little too much rosemary, and my wife felt the crust was too salty - no problem - she ate the inside and I had the outside! I was thinking that I would like to have some balsamic to put in with the oil. On the way out I see a few tables with bottles of balsamic on them - IDK, maybe u have to ask for it, it was not offered - I thought it was BS.

Started our meal with "Italian Tapas" - Bruschetta Crostini which was OK, Oven Fired Artichoke Hearts also OK, and Spicy Ricotta Meatballs which sounded much better than it was.

I had the "Mama's Trio" which included Chicken Parmesan, Chicken Cannelloni and Lasagna Bolognese. I was as disappointed with this trio as I was with the whole evening! It seemed like buffet or frozen food quality with a nice presentation. I can't remember saying anything was good the whole time.

Didn't care for the house Chianti either.

My wife had a large Chicken Parmesan salad or something like that, which she said was OK.

When finished it took forever for our waiter to come by, then a long time for our check and its return - by then my wife agreed that the service had a lot to be desired, and we wouldn't be returning.

It gave us time to look at the water bottle on the table - the ceramic topped glass bottle was cool, thought it was a good idea, and went along with the Italian theme. Only problem, while looking at the bottle we saw a bunch of stuff floating in it, mostly white - looked like floating dandruff. We quickly checked our glasses - luckily none in there - must have stayed at the bottom. Pretty gross, who is filling/checking these things?

Overall 2 stars - everything we tried is easily found better elsewhere, but it was edible. Service was a bit below average - maybe a D grade, barely passing. On the bright side we got rid of a GC, got Priority Rewards points, and got a new Yelp friend!

Not what it used to be, but almost acceptable. The food is not bad, but for the overall experience it is overpriced. It appears that there is no one in charge who is customer-centric. Most people working there look like they are just trying to get through the night one task at a time and not focused on the customers.

Surprisingly, the flat bread pizzas are not bad, just ask for extra sauce. I suspect the manager is trying to increase profit by skimping.

WOW! This place has gone down hill fast. The quality of the service has seriously taken a nose dive and the food is just BLAH! If i could given them 0 stars, i would have!

I went here on Friday night with my BF. Not our first choice, but the fact that we had a $50 gift card convinced us. Never AGAIN! We will be using any future Macaroni grill GC as re-gifts from here on out! The entire experience was pretty bad.

We arrived around 8 pm and the place was packed. We waited about 20 mins to be seated. Our server was nice, but boring and he looked super stressed. When we tried to make conversation with him, he kind of just rushed us along the menu. He kept turning to the tables around us while we looked down our menu deciding, or would disappear and ask how we were doing as he flew past our table. I asked him for more bread 3 times and the bread never came. It was just horrible.

Finally, we just ordered. I had a make- your-own pasta with shrimp (extra $4). It LITERALLY had 3 shrimp in it. I counted.... THREE! and, not the good kind either. Lucky for them, it was my first meal of the day and I was too starved to argue. The pasta itself was no better - probably slightly worse than what I can make at home.

My BF got a make-your-own pasta with pesto. The dish came out swimming in olive oil. It could have been soup, it was so bad. And, the pasta was bland and under cooked. It tasted nothing like pesto. It was beyond disappointing. We had to send it back.

Despite all this we still had dessert (we had $50 worth of GC anyway, and we knew for sure we were never coming back by this point, so we figured - why not). We ordered the tiramisu which we've had here before and I remember it being quite good with nice coffee taste. What we got was a bit of an atrocity. It looked nothing like what a piece of tiramisu should look like. It was in a bowl and too creamy, like pudding that you didn't mix quite well. No lady fingers were involved in the actual dessert and the coffee taste was indistinguishable. Still edible, but had i known, i would have used the extra $4 on our GC to tip the damn server.

This place is much better than I expected, particularly for a chain with such a ridiculous name.  The food here is great, and you get a decent amount of it for the price.  I'll come here over Olive Garden any day.

I have been dining at this location probably at least once a year for the past five years. It's never my choice, it was always for a work meeting or a family gathering. It seems like over the years the quality and service have gone way down.

Over the weekend I was here for a birthday dinner for my boyfriend's dad. We were a party of seven, plus a baby. They were able to set up a table for us pretty quickly, which was nice. Other than that, nothing else was very noteworthy during our visit:

The flavored iced teas used to be very strong, sweet and flavorful. Everybody who had one this time complained that they were very watered down.

I asked for butter for the bread. I had to ask two times, and by the time they brought the (cold, hard) butter, the bread was gone. They did not replace the bread.

My boyfriend's pizza was burnt on the bottom.

His brother's pizza wasn't cooked long enough and the cheese didn't get enough time to melt all over the pizza which caused the whole thing to fall apart when he started eating it.

Another brother asked for Ranch dressing (twice) and it took them over five minutes to bring it.

The waiter would clear random things off the table, but not everything, so the entire meal we had a bunch of empty plates and cups that were crowding us.

I hope my boyfriend's family doesn't choose this place again for dinner.

So last night we headed to the restaurant. We were the only ones as we walked in and the hostess said we didn't need to put our name in. 4 more families show up and we got lost in the shuffle. I had to go to the host and inform him that we were there before anyone else showed up and finally got a table. So after we ordered, we were told that the pizzas weren't really due to the dough was still frozen and this is prime time in the evening. Strike two, there was something in my drink and I had to ask to replace it. Strike three, the dinner my son and wife ordered had no taste. The only plus was that our waitress was nice. Guess we won't be heading here for a while

We came here the night before the wedding with my relatives.

Dinner was just ok, nothing special.

I ordered a lobster ravioli, hoping that I could enjoy some creamy goodness.  What I got was a COLD plate of lobster ravioli, with very thin and watered down and not creamy sauce.  I was majorly disappointed.  I told the waitress that my dish was cold and she took my plate and they heated it up again.  They did not give me a new dish.  Not sure if they have microwaves in the back or whether they just re-heated on the stove but I was expecting for them to give me a new plate.  Guess lobster's too expensive for them to give me a new plate!

Service was really slow.  It took forever for us to get our food.

My family told the waitress that I was getting married the next day.  Instead of a free dessert or something special, they just had one of their singers sing to me in Italian...Uh, I'd rather get free dessert. =D

    Overall, just ok.  Nothing special.

My mother and I were over in the area and decided to try it out, we were not impressed. We ordered the Bruschetta to start with and they cremated the bread, which ruined the entire dish, then my mom asked for balsamic and they wouldn't give her the bottle, they wanted to sprinkle a few drops on her food. Did they think she was going to take the bottle or something? Then we ordered Mama's Trio to split, and the only thing on the plate that tasted decent was the Chicken Parmesan. The staff there apparently do not work as a team, about ten different waiters and waitresses walked by and looked at our table and didn't bother to take the empty plates or top off our drinks, we had to wait for our waitress, who even then didn't take the plates, it was the second time around that she decided she'd do something. We will not be returning.

If I could start off by saying that if I could give ZERO stars it would be my true rating.  My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for years and although we have NEVER had that good of service we kept coming back because we always thought the food was pretty good.  However, tonight will be the last time I ever eat there..EVER. I couldn't even really say I ate there tonight because of the disgusting food I was served.  First, I just ordered a water to drink and the glass our server, Nicko, gave me for water was the size of a toddlers sippy cup. That was just annoying so we had asked the girl that dropped off the bread at the table to bring us a bigger glass.  Apparently she was too busy standing there talking to another server and playing with her dirty hair to grab a glass for me.  When my mom tried getting her attention again she looked at her then turned away, soooo rude.

Then, I ordered the chicken scallopini, the ONLY dish I have ever ordered there and I used to love it.  When they finally delivered the food the plate looked a little funny but I started to eat it anyway.  Then I got a huge bite of prosciutto and it TASTED LIKE OLD MEAT!!!!!!  When I looked at it closer it was the weirdest looking meat I have ever seen, it was a purplish gray color and when I made my mom try it she spit it out. Besides that the overall taste was just bad.  So when we were finally able to find someone to come to our table (since our server had gone on break ) the manager came over and instead of apologizing she grabbed the plate back and twenty minutes later brought me the same dish back.  Since I lost my appetite and never wanted to see that old meat again I told her to just take it back and take it off our bill. The manager never gave her name to us, I had to ask a server on the way out, but the manager was so rude I wanted to just get out of there.  Sherri is the assistant manager's name I believe and she was ridiculous! The manager just said the meat was fine, it was just a different cut and was cooked in oil too long.  Prosciutto has never ever looked like that before and I eat it all the time!! I work at a restaurant and I know for a FACT our manager would have been kissing the customers ass just to get them to come back.  They would have been giving free meals up the ying yang to anyone who complained .  (I would not accept free meals to mac grill ever though!)  A GOOD MANAGER WOULD GO TO THE TABLE AND APOLOGIZE.

Overall, I was soooo disappointed with this place and even though we have been coming here for years I will never go back again.  I left without even eating dinner and now I'm just going to pray I don't eat up with food poising from the old meat.

One of my favorite go to restaurants when I want something hearty and good to eat.  The pastas on the menu are good sized and cooked perfectly.  It's a fun atmosphere and is always crowded so I'd make reservations.  The house wine is a huge jug on your table and decent, served on the honor system.

If you stick to the basics like spaghetti and meatballs or chicken alfredo it is impossible to go wrong here.  I've tried the stuffed mushrooms and the bruschetta which were very good.  The mussels and and clams are excellent as well as the chicken and veal.

I would put this restaurant on par with Maggiano's in quality and service.

I used to like this restaurant but not after today.  We have a group lunch of 20 plus people there just now, and half of our orders are wrong and the food portion have reduced by 20 to 30% compared to a few months back and my favorite Penne Rustica now tasted like cheap pasta made by a chef who is still in culinary school.  What happened?  Did I mention half of our orders took more than 20 mins to arrive and the restaurant was only 30% full.  I will think twice before going back again.  Very disappointed.

I used to absolutely love this place.  But, we went there this past weekend and I couldn't believe how horrible the food was.  I ordered the honey balsamic chicken & my husband ordered the halibut.  Both were terrible.  Not worth it at all.  And, these are plates we've ordered in the past.  The manager didn't charge us for our dinners, but it'll be a very long while before I step foot here again.

Oh, the soup & bread were great. Those deserve 5 stars & I ranked this a little higher because they didn't charge us for our 2 plates.

Seating is usually prompt for lunch.  Service is good.  The prices are good (especially when work pays for it).  And yes, the waiters there can all write upside down as well.

The Chicken Portabello is my favorite dish.  Two grilled pieces of chicken with large slices of Portabello mushrooms and melted cheese on top a layer of risotto, peppers and spinach.  It's quite flavorful.

I usually only come here for business lunches, but occasionally I'll get that craving.  It's the one thing that I stack against all the BJ pizookie fans: Lemon Passion Cake.

Say it with me.  Lemon Passion Cake.  Did your thighs and taste buds quiver in sync too?  Citrus cake soaked in a sweet cream, topped with lemon mousse and finished off with fresh Italian whipped cream and caramel.  Do I still need to tell you how it tastes?

Picture your tongue as a pair of legs relaxing on a velvet chair.  Lemon passion cake would be the hottest stripper in the champagne room giving you the lap dance of your life.

    Enough said.

I ventured out to Anaheim Hills to meet up with friends on a sunny Saturday afternoon and we chose this place after a lot of talk about Italian food and pasta.

Despite a mad rush and crowds, we were surprised to be seated within 15 minutes in a plush booth.  Our waitress Beth was quick to come around, introduce herself on the table, and get us some water. Sadly, that's all she was good at.

With our starter rosemary bread, we had requested some balsamic vinaigrette that arrived during the middle of our meal. We all took a scratch pad and created our own pasta - one friend ordered a salad that also never arrived.  After our meal arrived, our waitress brought a dessert menu and the check.  What the heck?  We're not even done yet!  Just got our meals!

Despite her pushy behavior and forgetfulness, my build your own penne pasta with alfredo sauce, mushrooms, tomatoes, and spinach wasn't all that bad.  I liked that the sauce was light, not overwhelmingly creamy which usually leaves me full long before I can finish my meal.

And even though, the service was terrible our food was great. We enjoyed ourselves despite our waitress.

I don't exactly "hate" Macaroni Grill but, like it says for 2 stars - Meh. I've experienced better. In fact I've experienced better at Olive Garden for that matter.....OUCH. I've been to this RMG a few times in my pre-yelp days. It's never been me who suggests it though. So, tonight armed with a $25. Gift Card and a $5.OFF 2 Entree coupon, off we go to RMG-AH.

Service was good tonight, no complaints there.

My food was just OK. I had the Chefs trio with salad, Pollo Magro "Skinny Chicken" and Lemon Passion Dessert to go, $13. The chicken was good, my vegetables were good/fresh but, served luke warm/cold, bummer.

What can I say? Just another chain restaurant that over promises and under delivers.

I walked out with the same feeling I walked in with. I just don't think of RMG, especially not now - with yelp as my navigator.

I think A-Ok is a pretty good way to sum up this place.

The atmosphere is pretty good, I like the way it looks on the inside.

The service is usually pretty good (the 3ish times I've been here) but to be honest...I'd rather just go to the Olive Garden because the salad there is amazing and it comes with the meals!...unlike Mac Grille where you have to order a salad for extra $$$

The food there is also just "okay" I always feel a little sick-ish after I go...I think they use a lot of oil or something???

I don't know, it's never my first choice when I want Italian food, but I wouldn't turn it down if someone was offering to take me there.

I seriously don't know what the hype is about this chain restaurant.  We came here about 3 times due to the fact that it is only a mile from our house.

The services were good, but the food........ sigh!  The only dish good enough to eat was the calamari appetizer.  The other pasta entree's we tried were overly cooked, dry, or lack in flavor.  Now, usually I can 'fix' it by adding some tabasco sauce, but at Romano's, even tabasco couldn't rescue it!!!

Skip this place and head to Costco's freezer to get one of their frozen meat lasagna.  Pop it in the oven for 45 minutes and you'll have a better meal than Romano's.

We've recently come here for lunch on my birthday and walked home very disappointed. Frankly, I used to enjoy much higher professional level of service and better food quality from this chain elsewhere: Most recently in Livonia, Auburn Hills, MI., Hillsboro, OR., and Northgate, WA.

Well, it has been our first and last visit to this place. The 16.55% gratuity was automatically included in the bill; I'd otherwise never have rewarded that much for such lousy service.

Wife and I popped in to our local Macaroni Grill on a Friday night spur of the moment.  We hadn't had lunch so hit them early ... 6 o'clock.  We were seated after a 5 minute wait but 30 minutes later the crowd had come and there seemed to be a significant wait.

We started with shrimp and artichoke dip ... very good, flavorful, piping hot, plenty for two.

My wife had the spaghetti and meatballs just because she likes it and I had the Chicken Cannelloni.  We ordered this on the 3-course meal so it came with a nice Caesar salad.  The cannelloni was to die for ... excellent, but after the dip and salad I ate only one of three cannellonis.  My wife said the S&M was good ... but I have a hard time getting excited about S&M.

We wanted the sorbet for dessert but they were out (at 6:45PM on a Friday???) so we chose the Lemon Passion, which was good.

All in all a nice experience for the modest price.

I'm not a fan of Macaroni Grill. I don't know what it is, but it's just not that great.

Don't be deceived, the 4 star rating? not for the food, but for the service.

My cousin had her birthday dinner here last night with a group of 10+ (mind you, that's automatic gratuity!), and despite that fact, service was great.  The servers were both on top of their game and they seemed genuinely happy to be serving us.

The food wasn't  that horrible either....in fact, the pasta milano was pretty good...but i'm still not a fan of their food.

**I'm being generous with the stars because I came here when i was a few years younger...and my, was there one fine good looking waiter there. Caucasian guy, Black fo-hawk, bout 5'8ish, good looking face with a cute smile? if yall remember him from a few years back...tell 'em to hollah at me! hahaha oh, the memories:)

I have been going to this Macaroni Grill since I moved into the area in 2004.  The service has always been friendly.  The food is not spectacular, but it is not bad either.  I usually get the make your own spaghetti dish, and so am able to get a plate made to my taste.  This review would be a 3+ for the food, but the service and attentive staff make this an overall *4* experience.  It also helps that the kids enjoy eating here too.

When I first sat down at this place, I actually didn't realize that you were allowed to draw on the table. Definitely a plus to me. However, the food didn't bring any more pluses. The fish that I ordered was pretty average. It did not stand out and was pretty flavorless. On the other hand however is the bread and vinegar. Now that is some good stuff.

As for the service, it was decent. The waiter checked up on my party several times, but we found ourselves looking for him sometimes. The environment is ok as well. It can get a little crowded depending on where you sit. Overall, this establishment is just ok.

If you like a lot of food and don't mind that this isn't exactly authentic Italian cuisine, go ahead and give it a shot. This Macaroni Grill is a good alternative to some of the other places around Anaheim Hills... and it's better than its evil cousin the Olive Garden.
Portions are aplenty, staff is kind and friendly, they're quick and they provide doodling crayons even for the adults. I'm not complaining.

Been here many times and the food was always just okay, nothing that great. Last time I was there, got seated right away and then waited 5 minutes for a waiter to come take our drink order and no one came... Got the attention on someone and they were very rude saying you guys aren't my table but I'll see if I can find someone. No one ever returned and after a total of waiting 15 minutes with no service what so ever we left.

Need to learn customer service!! Place smells really weird too..

There aren't too many places to go out to eat in Anaheim Hills,so we don't have many choices. This place is really poorly ran for a restaurant.
The servers are too busy to really give the customer the attention that they need. The food is mediocre ,and it really is noisy and cramped in there. The prices are too high for the quality and quantity of food you get.
I recommend to drive a little further and go to a decent Italian Cafe.

Okay, I couldn't find a Romano's Macaroni Grill in Huntington Beach, so I'm just going to make a review for the one in Anaheim Hills. I've been to this one about 2 years ago for my 20th birthday with a few of my friends. I really like the atmosphere of the restaurant. It's pretty awesome that we can eat & draw on our table at the same time! Their Lobster Ravioli is really good and not to mention their Italian Peach Soda is soooo delicious. Too bad you don't get refills :(

i have only eaten at macaroni grill 3 other times before this one.  i've never been disappointed.  they all pretty much look the same.. i like the decor a lot.

OMG Bellinis!  a must try is the Ultimate Leaning Bellini!!!!  A twist of red raspberry liqueur  blended and frozen with Bacardi Rum, peach nectar, white wine and champagne.  you'll definitely be leaning to the side when you're done.

we started with the tomato bruschetta for appetizer.  yum!  i had the sizzling shrimp scampi over linguine.  it comes out in this sizzling cast-iron skillet and they pour it over the linguine at your table.  soooo goood!  i luvvvv me some shrimp!  http://static.px.yelp....

my one-armed lunch date struggled with the simple salmon served with broccoli and asparagus.  that was very good as well!  their lunch special is add any appetizer and dessert to your entree for an additional $6.49.  pretty good deal!

for dessert, i was introduced to the famous lemon passion cake.  all i gotta say is... W O W.  so soft, so creamy... so WOW!

the staff was very friendly and very talkative.  by the end of our meal, i knew the server's life story.  poor guy broke a lot of bones when he was younger.. and he's getting married in April.. congrats josh!

I was looking for some ideas on where to go for dinner hoping for some good reviews to sway our negative opinion.  My husband and I will not return because we often would sit in the bar area, and the bartender who was there was so aloof and unfriendly!  Trying to get his attention to order a drink was WAY, WAY too much work.  It sounds like that hasn't changed.  Please, oh please, someone say the service has improved!  This was about two years ago.  But it doesn't sound much better.

Pretty standard chain Italian fare.  Their atmosphere is average.  Macaroni Grill falls short of great, but it doesn't try very hard to be great.  The food is good and the prices are a little high.  It's a good family-style place if you have to go that route, although I prefer Carino's.
