Still offering the giant slice of doughy New York pizza and a drink for $5.50. The pizza is fine, but its very obvious you're paying for quantity over quality. I will say the quality has improved a little bit over the past few months, as I'm less likely to get a cold slice. It is attached to a Jaffa Bakery offering numerous other options, but I always stick with the pizza.
Honestly, it still feels like a dive restaurant, but this is actually a benefit in the loop. Its the one place I know I can go to that won't have much of a line and I know there will be seating. And since there aren't many places in the loop that sell pizza by the slice, this might be your best option.1 Previous Review: Show all »

This location used to be a Bacci's pizza, but changed to Roma pizza a few years ago. I'm not sure… Read more »

New York-style pizza? Get your New York-style pizza here!
A former Bacci Pizza locale, Roma still stands serving up jumbo slices and a styrofoam cup of pop for $5. Figure that you can get any fast food Italian low quality greasy food as well as big ass New York-style jumbo slices here that are loaded with veggies and or meats. I treated myself with some crazy blend of pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, peppers, and onion. It was kind of bad ass considering all the junk pizza around the Loop (7-Eleven!?). -

I deeply regret that I cannot give Roma Pizza ZERO stars.
This place truly blows monkey balls!
The cheese tastes of horrible quality and lacks the texture of normal pizza (isn't gooey cheese sort of an important facet of a pizza???). Also, there really isn't much sauce on the pizza, or at least it didn't taste like anything if there was. Overall this pizza rests on the cusp of being completely tasteless and tasting like a regurgitated piece of microwavable lean cuisine.
Sure the slice is huge, but who has the endurance to withstand such crappieness for the 10 minutes it takes to eat it? I sure don't, threw half of mine in the garbage and went and got a snack from Walgreen's.
In conclusion, I wouldn't feed this pizza to a homeless person. Roma pizza fails at all aspects of making pizza. -

Oh, Roma. I wanted so badly for you to assume the mantle of King of the Go-To-Pizza-By-The-Slice Places in the Loop after the demise of the Bacci on Washington and Wells. But alas, you are a pretender to the throne in every conceivable regard. To paraphrase former VP Candidate Lloyd Bentsen, "I've eaten at Bacci. And you, sir, are no Bacci."
It may be unfair to compare you to Bacci, but when you advertise yourself as "Home of Jumbo Slice and Free Pop," you are seeking to piggyback off Bacci's good will and will be judged according to their standards.
Where Bacci routinely had a line out the door, and a prime location next to an El stop with plenty of lively street traffic, Roma, you are in a basement food court that somehow manages to be even sketchier than the one at Clark and Lake. With blasting music, a Dunkin Donuts, and lackluster cleaning, you take what should be a fun hole in the wall and turn it into just a hole.
While holes in the wall can be fun...this tends to only hold true IF the food is good. Roma like Bacci offers a jumbo slice and free pop for less than $6, but the similarities end there. Whereas Bacci would often run out and make you wait for another pizza to come out of the oven, this minor inconvenience would remind you that the pizza was a very popular product, and that it was being freshly made as you waited. At Roma, on the other hand, I have never had to wait behind ANYONE in line, and the grease on the pizza has already glazed each time. I can only wonder how long it has been sitting out. An hour? A day?
The pizza itself is a pale imitation of Bacci. Where Bacci's crust was flaky and crunchy, the Roma crust is gummy and doughy, much like a take-home pizza from a grocery store, or the crust after you toss some Domino's in the microwave the day after. So disappointing. While the slice is slightly bigger than Bacci's, the poor preparation is proof that more for less doesn't always mean better.
I'll probably end up back there at some point when I'm craving pizza by the slice for lunch for a cheap price, as I don't have many options untill a Bacci returns to the Loop, or another slice places opens with a superior product.
But when that day comes, Roma, like an exiled mob brother, you are dead to me. -

Sitting at home sick on a Sunday night, in no mood to cook but in the mood to try something different so I took to http://grubhub.com to see who delievered. This pizza was rated rather well so I gave it a try. I love flavored crust and they had garlic crust so I was ready to taste that!
I got cheesy garlic bread and cheese pizza with garlic crust...I know I'm boring and totally up for a cheese overload. The cheesy garlic bread was delicious, dipped in ranch even better. The garlic crust was pretty good but the crust itself was pretty eh blah. Without the garlic the crust probably would have ruined the pizza. My breath is currently wreaking of garlic so this is not a good date option ha. Give it a try it's good!! -

Perhaps it was a bad time, but my pizza experience from Roma was well below lack luster. I'm sitting at my desk during the lunch hour (noon) and craving pizza; however, I say to myself "NO! You should eat the hummus and pita chips with the strawberries you brought for lunch". I went ahead and chose the healthier option, but at the 2 o'clock hour I found the pizza craving had returned with a vengeance.
I decided to go ahead and step outside in search of a slice of pizza and I found myself at Roma. Maybe if I would have went at noon the pizza would have been fresh and tasty; however, at 2:00 this is not the case. My pizza was soggy and mildly warm at best. The cheese had this weird consistency that reminded me of the curds that one might find in a gallon of curdled milk.
To be fair, when I walked up to the counter and saw the pizza I knew it had been sitting out for awhile, but I made the purchase anyways. The positive side is that the purchase came with a drink, although I would have been happier to have paid less and and had my order sans drink. -

I stopped in here for lunch today and learned a few things about eating at Roma:
The first thing I learned about Roma is that you don't really want to eat AT the restaurant. The noise in the dining room area is deafening due to really poor acoustics. Every time somebody pulls out a chair or slides a chair under a table, it creates a very loud and annoying sound. This sound is then echoed off the walls and amplified to a level that's very uncomfortable (to the point of painful) to the ears. It almost sounds like somebody lit a rope of firecrackers and threw them onto the floor under the table next to you. In looking around, I noticed several people wearing iPods and realized "Oh, these must be the regulars who know better than to come here without some sort of ear protection/distraction."
The second thing I learned was that the pizza slices at Roma are absolutely GIGANTIC (one slice is more than plenty for one fully grown animal of the human species) and the pizza isn't half bad to taste, either. It is a lot better than most of the other "by-the-slice" places like Bacci, I can assure you of this. The menu also offers the standard fare of burgers, hot dogs, Italian Beef sandwiches and other items one would expect, but I didn't try any of these.
I had to dock them some points for not having ketchup readily available at the condiment station. I ordered a side of fries only to realize there was no ketchup or any sauces available at the straw/napkin/beverage area where it usually is located. This is just inconveniencing your customers for the sake of saving a couple of dollars a day. In doing so, you are requiring customers to go back up to the counter (after they've already sat down), making them wait a few minutes in line (while their food is going cold) and making them ask you for ketchup and mustard. Do you know how tough this is to do, especially if you're by yourself? The whole time you're in line, you're thinking "Gee, I really hope the kid wiping down the tables doesn't toss my lunch, figuring I've left." Or "Hmmm...I hope nobody does anything to my lunch while I'm standing here in line 40 feet away from my table that I can't even see from here." At the very least, OFFER the condiments to your customers before they leave the counter. Is that so hard?
So, net-net: HUGE slices, EXTREMELY BAD acoustics, POOR condiments system. However, the pizza itself more than works in a pinch. -

If I could have selected zero stars, I would have.
I am clearly very dissatisfied with the service I have received from Roma Pizza. I have now attempted to order from this restaurant two times. The first, I was informed an hour after placing my order that the delivery driver had been in an accident and my order would have to be canceled. There was no offer to re-send. I trusted that there had, in fact, been an accident, but after my second attempt to order from there, I'm convinced that there was no accident, but that the restaurant simply canceled my order.
In any case, I tried again. This time, when my order was delivered, I only received half the order. I immediately called the restaurant, hoping to have the remainder sent out immediately. I was unpleasantly surprised to have the person who answered my call disagree with me as to what I had ordered, despite me having received a confirmation e-mail with the order. The man actually argued with me, insisting that he was correct. Reluctantly, he agreed to send out the rest of the order, but conceded that they didn't have one of the items I had ordered and said he could replace it with something similar. At that point, I just wanted some food to be delivered so agreed. He told me the remainder of the order would arrive in 30 minutes. After 45 minutes, I called the restaurant to follow up and my call went straight to voice mail. I called a few more times, in case they were taking another order, and each time reached only a voice mail account. Two hours after my initial order, I have not received the rest of my order and am unable to reach anyone at the restaurant for an explanation.
To say my experience with Roma Pizza has been frustrating is an understatement. I will NEVER order from them again. -

Ran over there during lunch, around 12:00, since it is the closest pizza place to my office. The woman at the counter was friendly, but the pizza was TERRIBLE. I got a slice of the spinach and tomato. It was dry, cold, hard and tasteless. Probably the worst pizza I've had.
I do not recommend this.
