I've started to become a regular here. I love roller skating, just not the millions of children falling in front of you so you can roll over them.
Once I get AMAZING (which is likely to happen soon), I'm heading over to Chez Vous where the real roller skaters hang.
I'm pretty sure that people have died here.
I've been here a few times now, and each time has been overcrowded and crazy. Kamikaze kids everywhere having birthdays and taking out unsuspecting victims in the rink. My roller skating skills are pretty average, but getting any better is most likely not going to happen here.
I do like this place though. The outer space carpet is pretty awesome, the people-watching is usually pretty amusing, and it's a cheap activity with rentals only $7.00. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon, if you can make it out alive.

I never liked this place as a child. Always too crowded and my ass always hurt after falling on it so many times. The food sucks but the arcade games were my favorite.
Worth bringing your kids to, however, if you are above eighteen and have no kids.....you shouldn't be caught dead here.

Went to Roller World with some friends.
It was a lot more fun than I expected. For $7 you can sk8 to your heart's content, the cost includes rentals.
There are two rinks, a small "kiddie" rink and the "big" rink. If you've never skated before or are a little rusty I would suggest practicing in the "kiddie" rink first.
I'm no pro skater, but there were A LOT of young guys there tearing up the rink like in the movie "Roll Bounce" and it was kind of annoying. Seriously, them weaving in and out between lines of other skaters and racing 100 mph was as much as a hazard as the little kids who don't know how to skate and keep wiping out.
Of course, the staff don't say shit, because those rascals have talent. My advice, don't go in the early evening/nighttime if you're not trying to get in the mix with pathetic teens and random adults practicing for competitions.

Good god, other people's children are my nightmare!
Don't get me wrong--open skate on Sunday is kickass--$7 gets you all the skate time you can handle plus rental.
This place was a blast from the past for sure (I lived in Long Island until I was 11 and the roller rink was the hot shit place to hang out). Granted, I don't have the killer moves that I once did but Roller World gave me the opportunity to get my old, aged, bum back in gear--and I didn't even fall! Woohoo, go me.
The bathrooms are really wierd (be wary if you're tall) and the concession stands are lacking (seriously, you call those pretzels?!), but they've got super syrupy fountain diet pepsi and the requisite crazy ripoff hand grabby claw games (put in a quarter, grab a fake rolex! woot), so the place is not a total loss.
If they could get some staff on the floor to actually help out the little kids whose parents let them roll around unsupervised without their laces tied (we saw about 6 of them get knocked down and then rolled right over by bigger, older kids), then this place will be solid.
Either way I'll be back--I love skating, and after a 15 year hiatus I believe it's high time I got back into the habit.
PS--be sure you high five all of the 12 year old boys who know the choreography to Jessica Simpson's "Public Affair."--I have a feeling they're there every weekend.

Went here with a friend expecting the worst, but was surprised that it wasn't that bad. I haven't been rollerskating in about 20 years, so I was a bit rusty. However, on Saturdays, it's like $7, which includes the skate rental. Rollerblades are extra.
The place was very clean, with a space theme. Lots of birthday parties going on. They have a snack bar (we chose to hit up the Taco Bell/KFC that is right outside the rink) and video games, as well as a skate store (which was selling Danskin tights with packaging from the 1980s--no joke!).
It wasn't too crowded, but there were a LOT of little kids who kept wiping out, teenagers who were pretty pathetic, and random adults who were either practicing for skating competitions (seriously--we saw a couple people who could be ice skaters as well as a rollerderby girl) or were looking for partners. It was great fun to get back out and not fall, and the music wasn't too bad. I wish I had the moves though!
If you don't have fun at Roller World you officially take yourself too seriously. Nothing beats walking into this place and realizing you actually have, lodged in your brain somewhere, the memory of this exact smell of old school roller rinks. It's an utter explosion of the senses, including nothing but hip hop tunes and galaxy patterned carpets with a black light making your teeth and socks shine. If you're stumbling and falling you won't be the only one, and you're in for a treat if the dudes on the floor start doing tricks. Air hockey and skee ball are available when you need to take a break, but don't expect any surface you touch to NOT be sticky from small children's hands.

Roller World is an awesome place to go roller skating. It only costs between $5 and $6 depending on what day you go and that includes a pair of roller skates. If you want to use roller blades, that costs extra. Overall, this is a really fun place! Just be careful on Friday nights, I think it's teen night. You probably don't want to get mixed up in that!
