I would give Roli Roti 6 (maybe 7) stars if I could. Their Porchetta sandwich is now my favorite sandwich in SF!
The porchetta itself is incredible. When it comes off the rotisserie, it has an incredible glassy skin, and the inside is moist and deliciously infused with flavor from the rub.
What makes the porchetta sandwich so great is the love put into making it. After halving the ciabatta role, they use it to sop up some of the juice released while cutting the porchetta. Who needs mayo or mustard when you've got meat juice?!
In addition to several slices of the incredibly moist meat, the sandwich has some bits of the crackly skin for extra crunch and flavor. The caramelized onion marmalade and cress add additional flavors and textures that perfectly compliment the meat. Oh, I almost forgot the rosemary and sea salt that they sprinkle on before serving. It's the perfect final touch!
Just writing about that sandwich makes me want to eat another right now!
SoOOoo good.. their Porchetta Sandwich is ORGASMIC.. well.. almost.. :P I tried this for the first time while at the Ferry Building's Farmer Market on Saturday.. it's just a truck.. with one HECKER yummy sammie! When you finally get to the area to order (because there's a LONG line) the chef/server cuts open your rustic bread.. then rubs it all over the cutting board where he cuts the Roasted Pork meat.. greasy juicy goodness.. yum. then he layers it with LOADS of succulent dripping Roasted Pork.. and adds the crunchy fried skin on top, then layers it with a mountain of Arugula? and adds his sauce.. DELISH!!! and their potatoes.. they have it under the rotisserie chicken that's turning.. so all the ooie-gooey drippings from the chicken land on top of the pototoes.. ooOOOoo artery clogger how I love u.. :)
Will definitely come back..
There are a few things I regret in life.
I regret not finishing the great American novel that I attempted to write when I was 9.
I regret breaking up with my high school boyfriend three times. (Seriously, right? High school girls are not very nice)
I regret spilling water all over my not very resilient Dell laptop during the week a 10-page paper was due.
And I regret not getting the porchetta sandwich a couple Saturdays ago when I was at the Ferry Building and the line was a reasonable, not too crazy length.
I was impatient. I saw the sign for chicken and potatoes -- go to register immediately! no line! I like chicken. I like potatoes (a lot). So I procured a plate with 1/4 chicken and potatoes. Yum yum yum -- the rotisserie chicken had great crispy, seasoned skin. It was a bit difficult to eat, though, without a table for plate balance. I loved the potatoes, which were cooked in the fat drippings of the rotisserie chicken. Brilliant.
For $6, I was pleased with my meal. But the more I looked at the other people who had waited for porchetta sandwiches, the more I wanted one. When I came back to read the Yelp reviews for them, my desire burned even more.
One day you will be mine porchetta sandwich.
And I will update this review with my thoughts.
You must have the porchetta sandwich.

OH. MY. FOODILICOUS. GOODNESS.
what a delightful invention the porchetta sandwich is!
juicy.
tasty.
hearty.
crispy.
pay the $8.50 for the hype. wait 45 minutes in line. run up and down the embarcadero in preparation..
for a truly harmonious sandwich.
ps. porchetta sandwich line is the LONG one. chicken roli roti line is the short one.
I had the Porchetta Sandwich with Rosemary Potatoes at the FoodBuzz Street Vendors "Fare" last weekend. Check out my full blog post at http://www.biteandbooz... and follow on twitter @biteandbooze!
For me, the winning dish of the street vendor "fare" was the rotisserie pork at the RoliRoti truck! The Porchetta Sandwich that they turned the pork into featured a pork belly rolled into a loin with crispy skin and fresh organic herbs. It was cooked right in front of our eyes on a rotisserie grill that was built onto a truck and driven around to different events. The concept was original, creative, and the product couldn't have been more perfectly executed!
Pork Loin with Pork Belly, Organic Herbs, and Crispy Skin
The meat itself had an indescribable flavor. The pork's succulent and juicy flesh made me (and everyone else there) giddy with excitement. But the loin was not all they did! RoliRoti sliced the pork on the cutting boards and loaded it onto a magnificent piece of sliced artisan bread. Every sandwich was packed full of pork loin, pork belly, and, most importantly, the taste and texture of the crispy skin! They added a little sauce, a touch of onion marmalade, some fresh curly cress, and a side of rosemary roasted French fingerling potatoes, and you were not looking at food, but rather a work of street vendor art!
The Roli Roti truck came down to my work in Mountain View, and my life has never been the same. The Rotisserie Porchetta sandwich is life changing.
The Porchetta is Heritage's free range pork loin rolled into the belly with Thomas's original herb mix with lemon zest. It is grilled on the rotisserie for four hours until crispy brown on the outside, succulent on the inside.
This is basically the part of the pig where bacon comes from. The crispiness on the outside is like almost like roasted pig skin was wrapped around it. Was it pig skin? It must be... Heavenly...
Now for the visual. Take that hunk of slow cooked pork loin and put it on a cutting board. All that drippings and fat from the pork on the cutting board? Let's take a roll, cut it in half, and rub it around in that drippings goodness. Then we'll put a healthy (or unhealthy?) amount of pork on there. For some crispiness, let's put some of that crispy skin in there as well. Then, we'll top it off with some grilled onions. Yep, they did all that. Right in front of my face next to the truck.
And yes, it tastes as good as it sounds. And then some.
It was a foggy morning last Saturday at the farmer's market in SF...and as I walked by the Roli Roti Truck, I noticed the porchetta was ready and no one was in line! I seized my opportunity, as the last time I had their porchetta sandwich was in August *gasp*.
Yum.
Flavorful porchetta, bread slathered in the porchetta drippings, carmelized onions, sea salt, and peppercress.
'nuf said. Go get yourself a porchetta sandwich!
one of the best sandwiches i've ever had. $8.50 -- go get one now
(the secret is to visit thursday right at 11:30 AM to beat the line)
reasons why the porchetta sandwich is so amazing
few simple ingredients which combine perfectly
1) ACME ciabatta bread (soft and fresh)
2) slow roasted pork belly sprinkled with herbs (so soft moist and flavorful with perfectly crisped skin)
3) marmalade onions and cress (side ingredients not overwhelming)
4) the bread is used to "wipe" the cutting board, and so all the juices soak into the bread = key
there's no line for the chicken! just the porchetta sandwich...
Yes, that porchetta sandwich is definitely worth the wait.
JONASAPPROVED!
"You spin my head right round, right round..."
I always think of that line when I see the chicken truck. (Gee, I wonder why!)
Located next to the Waffle Mania Truck at the Civic Center Farmer's Market on Wednesday mornings, Roli Roti sure knows how to work the crowd with their oven wall rotating a few dozen rotisserie chickens and roasting their rosemary potatoes right below. The aroma of the chickens while spinning round and round until they're perfectly cooked is undeniably irresistible. After being brought into a somniferous daze from taking a quick whiff, my friends and I decided to split a Roli Combo (1/4 chicken + rosemary roasted potatoes). I couldn't think of a better way to spend $6. The rotisserie chicken was super juicy and plump and the potatoes complimented the meat utterly well. Though they were drenched in a tad too much oil, they're still probably one of my favorite potatoes on the streets.
Don't be fooled by the size of this hearty meal - it's sure to be a filler. I always love watching the crowd as they OOH and AHH at the chickens circulating to perfection. I'll admit I'm a bit touristy myself whenever I see this cart, but put away the freakin camera and get in line so you can eat already!
I LOOOOOVE porchetta! So when we turned the corner after getting Blue Bottle iced coffee at the SF Ferry Building Farmer's Market, we had no choice but to line up to find out what the craze was all about. 40 minutes later, we had a $8.50 porchetta sandwich and a $6 combo of 1/4 chicken and fingerling potatoes. The four stars is for the porchetta sandwich only.
Porchetta sandwich - Absolutely delicious and totally worth the wait. Crackly salty pig skin with a thin layer of fat, herbilicious pork, parsley & tangy sauce in a freshly baked ciabatta bun. Each bite bursted with crunch of the pig skin, moist juicy fat and the oh so yummy sauce. Warning: the porchetta is VERY salty when eaten alone.
Roli combo - I should have known this would not have been that great because there was no line for it. ;) The skin of the rotisserie chicken breast was well seasoned, but the flavor didn't permeate through the rest of the chicken. The meat was dry and left me craving $5 Costco rotisserie chicken (I'm almost positive they put crack in that chicken!). The rosemary fingerling potatoes were tasty but the potatoes were too firm and didn't seem cooked well enough.
I visited their rotisserie truck on a Thursday for lunch. They are located right in front of Taylor's. I ordered the porchetta pork sandwich. It's a revelation. The guy who cuts the meat is hilarious and very friendly.
Before they assemble the sandwich, they use the bread to soak up all the juices from the pork rotisserie. Yes, your sandwich bread is soaked in delicious rotisserie juice! Amazing.
I got a side of their rosemary potatoes too. The potatoes were tasty but not as good as their porchetta sandwich. Man oh, man.
After my first bite of the Porchetta sandwich, I knew my fellow citizens had sacrificed for a great cause... roasted in the back of a Truck, chopped then flopped between two crispy slices of rustic bread, added grilled onions, argula, sprinkled a morself of herbed sea salt and you could call it perfection. It's simple, but it's such good tender juicy pork and the ancilliary ingredients and sides are very fresh and well prepared. *The sandwich is $8.50 and sides like potatoes and corn salad are $4, not cheap, but it's not steep either.
Not an everyday treat because the porchetta will eventually show on your belly, BUT when you treat yourself, DO ask the chef (the nice french guy with the accent - he invented the heavenly sin) to chop up the crispy pork skins and rub the bread against the juice filled cutting board so that you'll get all the savory goodness in every bite.
Now you can go wait in line at the Ferry Building's famer's market on Thursdays and Saturdays. You can smell the roasted pork from a mile away. The line is always long, and people gawking back and forth will make you anxious to get to the front, so come early or else you're left with, rotisserie chicken. Oh, ya - you didn't know they sell chicken right? Because that's not what you should get when you pay a visit to the Roti Truck.
What is it about this truck that inspires people to crowd around and gawk? Have you never seen rotisseries before?
I experience mild rage every time I wait in line and have to endure the Roli Roti groupies hovering in my personal space, peering over the line, bothering the "chef," and taking photos. And the tension around the front conjures Vietnam-esque flashbacks to the passive aggressive crowds that form before boarding an airplane. Get to the back of the line or F off!
The pork sandwich on Sat in SF is terrific and the Roast Beef I had at the Thursday Ferry Building was amazing. But I will say- they do not come without sacrifice (especially the pork).

Every Sunday, so many market-goers pass the enormous line for Roli Roti and say, "Oh, wow! Look at… Read more »
I finally tried the awesome porchetta sandwich and it's probably one of the best sandwiches I've eaten. The bread is toasted along with the rotisserie chickens making for a nice crusty exterior. The roast pork is carved to order, with crispy skin and all. They sop up the juices with the bread before the sandwich is assembled.
Slices of pork, crispy skin, balsamic sauteed onions, greens and a sprinkle of salt are all put together while your mouth waters. One bite and you'll realize the greatness of this sandwich.
With a reusable bag full of organic, farm fresh groceries I am never in the mood to wait in a huge line behind tourists and East Bay weekenders on Saturdays for the Porchetta Sandwich. Thankfully, the Thursday market quietly popped up and attracts a smaller (in crowd size and BMI) crew of FiDi office workers/slaves This respite from overhearing stories about aunts/cousins/neighbors saying you must get the sandwich when in the "the city" allowed me to to mainline pork ecstasy in a lightning fast queue!
Porchetta Sandwich: Pig Paradise! Intricate layers of meat, fat and crispy skin cause a texture extravaganza with every bite into the mainstay of this sandwich. The meat individually is moist and tasty, but its unhealthy accomplices really bring the flavor to the table. I could have a sandwich of just the salty, savory, juicy, crispy skin alone. A sweet chutney of what I believe to be sauerkraut and onions is placed on top to balance the saltiness. There are some obligatory greens I barely noticed and then the encompassing roll yielded a hearty chew for yet another texture dimension. If you're lucky, your roll will even be wiped with pork dippings from the cutting board.
Rosemary Potatoes: The rosemary dusting on these fingerlings is almost inconsequential because the true flavoring is animal infused. I prefer the taters that are little burnt looking (which are too few) because it means they've caught a lot of yummy drippings. I only wish more vegetables served today came in chicken and pork flavors...
Chicken: I remember growing up in Connecticut to find rotisserie chicken popping up at specialty restaurants and a few select supermarkets. There was a certain virginal pleasure with the chicken back then because it was so much juicier than baked, grill and fried alternatives. Now rotisserie chicken has mainstreamed with the deluge of Boston Chickens (now known as Boston Markets) and appearances at any old Safeway. Through that jaded lens, this chicken is decent. It's juicy and there are tons of great herbs on the skin. I especially like the fact they give you a fresh lime to season it with. However, it's nothing novel or far ahead of competitors.
Oh me, oh my! I had the porchetta sandwich a couple two Saturdays ago, and I'M STILL THINKING ABOUT HOW GOOD IT WAS! Sometimes, when you spot a line, there just has to be a valid reason. My husband and I were roaming the farmers market on a rare Saturday morning without the boys, and we saw the longish line. Since we were already sufficiently armed with BB coffee and sans-kids, a line? No problem.
Chatting up the lady in front of us, I found out that the porchetta sandwiches were the popular choice for Roli Roti aficionados. When we got to the front of the line, I could see why ... amazing bread with the porchetta juice sopped up into it, thick slices of succulent porchetta with a few pieces of crunchy pork skin, some greens (flat leaf parsley, I think), and a sprinkle of rosemary sea salt. We had a small order of potatoes -- Yukon gold fingerling potatoes that had been sitting under porchetta and chicken sucking up the juices topped with a sprinkle of the rosemary salt, what could go wrong with those? Absolutely NOTHING.
Oh, bliss!
So, this past Saturday, I went back to the Ferry Building, this time with kids in tow. We didn't make it until lunch time, and sadness... Out of the porchetta, I was forced to "make do" with the chicken. That was seriously delicious and superbly cooked chicken (also with an order of the potatoes), but the chicken doesn't hold a candle to the porchetta. I was chided by the jovial Roli Roti man that I would have to get up earlier if I wanted the pork -- yes, sir!
porchetta sandwich + rosemary roasted potatoes = heaven
worth the wait, worth the money, worth getting up early on saturday morning to make sure you get it before it runs out.
i've had the chicken before as well, which is okay... but the porchetta sandwich is just da bomb.
I am use to seeing taco trucks and stands, but I've never seen a chicken truck. This truly is a a GOURMET Chicken Truck. If you go to the farmers market, you will be able to smell the chicken freshly roasting.
Roli Roti Gourmet Rotisserie is located on Market Street in San Francisco. There is normally a line but it moves rather fast. When it's your turn to order, the servers greets you, ask what you would like, and they have it set on the plate right away.
I had a combo plate, ($6.00, good portion) which include half chicken and half potatoes. Both items are doused in rosemary seasoning. The chicken is cooked well, there are some red spots closer to the bone. The potatoes are soft and a little salty. For a chicken truck... the quality is pretty good.
Oink. Call me a pig because I polished off my first ever porchetta sandwich here, and I think I like it a lot. If there are other places that make even better porchetta sandwiches than this place, then please let me know and I'll hop on the next flight over there. Pronto.
Yelp led the way. I was doing some research before heading out to the Farmer's Market and everyone kept mentioning this porchetta sandwich like it was pig heaven on bread. Otherwise, I would've thought hey, cute little truck full of rotating rotisserie chickens with a long line full of people, and probably strolled right on by.
It was a few hours short of noon, so the line wasn't long at all. I got to the front and observed the guy making my $8.50 porchetta sandwich. As he sliced the tender slow-roasted pork, the juices flowed all over the cutting board. But all is not wasted. He takes the insides of both pieces of bread, takes a few swipes, and soaks up all of the pork fat flavored juicy goodness. Brilliant.
Next goes on a few pieces of outer crispy pork skin, a slathering of some dark caramelized onions, and some green foliage for garnish. I took a huge first bite and loved it. There is such a contrast in textures and flavors. It's the softness of the bread, tenderness of the pork, the fattiness of the juices, the crunchiness of the skin, and scrumptiousness of it all. I think I just made up a few words in that sentence. You know I like the food when I'm making up words that don't even exist.
Eating a porchetta sandwich right now. Yum. They now have it at the Civic Center Wednesday market, making it the highlight of my week. It's quite possibly the best sandwich I have ever had.
I love how the address just says "Chicken Truck."
But that's what Roli Roti truly is...a truck that sells Chicken (and Porchetta Sandwiches, if you're lucky). My best foodie buddy and I are on a quest to try everything on that 7x7 Must Eat Food List. So we chased down the Roli Roti at the Civic Center Farmer's Market to try their famous Porchetta Sandwich. Unfortunately, they were not serving the sandwiches that day. Since we traveled so far, we decided to try their Rotisserie Chicken Combo. For only $6 bucks, it was a good deal. Not to mention the Chicken was juicy and seasoned to a tee. Tasty!
As for their Porchetta Sandwich, we were lucky enough to come across the Roli Roti at the Ferry Building on an odd Thursday and they were actually serving the Porchetta Sandwich. What else can I say about this sandwich that half of these prior reviews have already stated? All I have to say is...I KNOW WHY IT'S ON THAT MUST EAT LIST!!!!! Jealous? haha That's all.

Porchetta Sandwich
Totally worth waiting in a giant line of hungry foodies. All you need to know is that there are two lines, one for chicken where the line is always short, and one for porchetta sandwiches - yes that would be the huge line of people that goes all the way past the flower folks. Before you get in line make sure there is at least one untouched-still-cooking-porchetta round on the rotisserie. If you only see chickens roasting, then there is a good chance that by the time you get the to front of the line there will be no more sandwiches for you. And nothing, NOTHING, is worse than waiting in a porchetta line for 45+ minutes and leaving with only roast chicken.
The line takes forever because the sandwich guys take time and loving care making a beautiful well balanced porchetta sandwich just for you. Thereby ensuring that each bite has juicy herbed pork, crunchy pig skin, sweet caramelized onions, fresh greens, and a bit of rosemary and sea salt. All this comes on a crusty Acme rustic roll. Are you drooling yet? Have you clicked on the pictures on the top right side of your screen? Wipe the drool from your key-pad and make it a priority to get yourself out of bed Saturday morning and head to the Ferry Building for the worlds tastiest porchetta sandwich.
Waited an hour or more for a pork sandwich, and I would have waited longer. It was soooooo goooooood.
I was touched at the disappointment on the Chef's face when he realized he had run out of goods to feed the long line of hopeful folks at the Eat Real Festival. He's no joke, and showed such genuine sweetness in the few moments my friend and I got to chat with him. My boy crushes are few and far between, but this dude earned it!
My friend and I will be looking out for his truck and his excellent crew!
Every Thursday is known as the Pork Sandwich day in my office.
RoliRoti, thank you for your deliciously unctuous swine.
Thomas is the man.
The Porchetta sandoichi is awesome. I don't like it served original/classic style where they soak the bread in the meat drippings (too much grease). Just get it regular, make sure they put enough skin and pepper cress on it. You will not be disappointed. Get there early, don't plan on getting a sandwich if you line up after 1pm. The swine is gone by 2:00 fo shizzle...you can always get the chicken.
Worth the wait and the drive from Los Angeles.
First timer, here.
That line really builds up that porchetta.
Dayum, it wouldn't matter if my life ended, for i have experienced RoliRoti's porchetta sandwich.
The porchetta sandwich is a work of art. Watching the sandwich makers chop the crackly pork skin and assemble the sandwich is a show in itself.
Very few things can get me up on a Saturday morning, especially when there's been some "adult beverages" involved the night before, but one thing that can definitely get me out of bed early is the Roli Roti truck (and their Porchetta sandwich).
The first few times I went to the truck, I was intrigued by the little potatoes sitting on the hot flat-top grill getting dripped on by roasting chickens, and waited in line for the potatoes. I would get the potatoes everytime I was at the farmer's market, and I usually left pretty happy. One day when I was there, the line was longer than usual, and I heard the five people in front of me order the "pork-etta sandwich" and I had NO IDEA what they were getting.
When I got up there, I saw what the fuss was all about! There was a huge "roll" of pork in front of me, with crispy skin and herbs inside, and IT LOOKED GLORIOUS! WOW! I can't put into words my excitement at that moment when I just stared at the Porchetta and said "I'll take one of those."
When I finally tried the sandwich, I was hooked for life. The meat was so moist, the skin so crispy, and the meat juice that they dipped the bread in was just so damn tasty! I also loved the onion jam and the microgreens and the salt. All the flavors went to well together and I was in heaven.
I gave the sandwich the ultimate praise to some of my friends. I told them they had to go to the farmer's market to get this sandwich because "it was the only sandwich I'd ever eaten that wouldn't be better with cheese..." It's that good. It's perfect the way it is.
The line will look daunting, but it will be worth the wait. Too bad word of mouth keeps making my wait 5 minutes longer everytime I try to get a sandwich! Still worth it though...
Biting into this scrumptious porchetta sandwich for the first time was so wonderful it spurned another first... I stopped thinking, even subliminally, about sex for about 10 seconds. Amazing.
Friendly people, deliciously flavorful chicken. Perfectly seasoned. I always get a whole chicken to go for dinner that night, but the sandwiches look totally amazing so someday I will brave the ferry building line and get one.
tried this at the ferry building farmers mkt when i was in town for the wkd, and this porchetta sandwich is AMAZING.
gosh, i've been thinking about it for the last two weeks.
LOVE the owner- his attitude, his flair, his realness. he saw a couple eyeing the sandwiches off to the side, so he cut them a couple chunks of delish pork.
if you're undecided, and you shouldnt be JUST GET IN LINE... linger on the side and salivate confusedly. maybe he'll see you too.
Porchetta Sandwich. My my my, you are so tasty.
Usually when there's a long line, the prize at the end can either be a joyous relief or a complete letdown. After waiting about 50 minutes in line at the Ferry Building farmer's market, I found this sandwich to be completely worth it.
Many times, the staff would call out to the line "if you want chicken, you can come up right to the front. that's for chicken only" and nobody would budge. Seems they would rather wait for something better, so I followed their lead.
The porchetta sandwich is a slow roasted slab of pork wrapped in a crispy shell that keeps all the yummy juices in. It's then topped with sweet onions and garnish. The bread is also swiped over the carving board to pick up any extra juices. The end result is a flavorful sandwich that's juicy, tender, and crispy. The roasted potatoes were decent (and very filling for the small portion), but were nothing more than just fillers. I skipped over the chicken for this time, but it's a pretty popular item too.
Wait for this guy, it's totally worth it. It's probably the best meal I've had for $8.50.
I come to the Ferry Building Farmer's Market quite frequently, even though I think the prices are over-the-top. But, it's a great way to spend a Saturday morning - walking aimlessly among the crowd (oh, watch out for that tourist!), buying a $5 tomato (that's singular, not plural) and sampling everything around (definitely an upgrade from my Costco sampling experience). But what turns an average stroll into a heavenly experience...stop by the Roli Roti truck and grab a porchetta sandwich! I especially love the fact that the owner mops up the juices from the pork with the bread and he adds a few cracklings in there for a bit of salty goodness. Yummy! If the line is too long and you're starving, grab half a chicken first at the chicken line and eat it while standing the porchetta sandwich line.
STOP READING!!!!!
JUST GO GET A PORK SANDWICH ALREADY!
Honestly the best sandwich I've ever had in my entire life. It makes me sad to think I've already experienced the greatest possible, and every sandwich I eat from now on can't possibly live up to Roli Roti...
3 stars for the rotisserie chicken, 5 for the pork!
The line at this place is insane, if you go in a group, you should seriously take turns in waiting and as you get towards the front, dispatch 1 or 2 to hover over the nearby tables to get a seat. As others have mentioned, there's usually a shorter line (queuing from the side nearer to Embarcadero) for those wanting chicken only (takes a while to make the porchetta sandwich).
The sight of the bespoke rotisserie truck with the dozens of chickens rotating, and the amazing smells are a huge draw for this place. In fact the chicken actually smells better than it tastes. The chicken is above average in taste and moistness, but nothing too special.
The pork is the real star. Incredibly moist and usually accompanied with the flavourful and crispy skin, it's delicious on it's own or in the sandwich complete with meat juices, cilantro, onions and sea salt - yum!
The rosemary potatoes get great flavour from being cooked underneath the chicken, but I always find them to be a little bit too firm. A bit of parboiling would help!
So overall, chicken slightly above average, but the search for SF's best rotisserie continues...
There's a reason why this line is always the longest at the farmer's market on Saturday mornings! Their porchetta sandwich is AMAZING!
I hate being in the sun and avoid it at all costs...however, this past weekend I was willing to stand in the blazing hot sun for 30+ minutes to wait for my sandwich. I felt myself getting burned despite slathering on spf 55 on that morning...but it was so worth it biting into that sandwich.
It takes a long time because each sandwich is made to order. They pound the pork skin with the knife to get the fatty oil out and then use the bread to wipe up the oil - so bad but it tastes oh so good. It comes with pork (obviously), sauteed caramelized onions, and a gracious handful of a type of green vegetable that reminds me of cilantro (but it's not). Once you bite into it the juices start flowing down your hands/arms and it gets messy.
As much as I dislike the sun, I also dislike getting my hands dirty while eating. But again, it's totally worth it! It's $8.50 for each sandwich (so not considered cheap) but we usually get one sandwich and split it since they cut it in half for you. That way we can try all the other foods. There's just so much tastiness in the bay area!
It's good if you haven't had Porcetta sandwhich before. The Porcetta in NYC is still tastier but if you have a craving over here in the Bay area then you must hit this one.
It's at the SF Ferry Building on Saturday. The line is long because where else can you get it.
Fill me in if there is something more convenient. But it was definitely YUMMY and hit the spot.
It would have gotten 5 stars if the flavor of NYC wasn't still fresh in my mind.
It's all about the PORCHETTA SANDWICH people!! My God it was freaking amazing!! No wonder why the line is long but don't let that steer you away, it's well worth the wait.
Succulent, sweet glazed pork fresh off the rotisserie placed on fresh ciabatta like bread which they soak up all of the juices from the meat. The crunchy caramelized skin of the pork was the best part for me. Topped off with some caramelized onions and greens and you got yourself a sandwich unlike any other.
This heaven on wheels is a must when you're strolling through the market. Have a sandwich for b-fast or lunch and you won't be disappointed!
