Yes Virgina, there is an airport in Southern Oregon!

When I was a kid my grandparents moved to Southern Oregon to avoid Regan, and California State income taxes during their golden years.  So, as a kid I got shipped up there during the summers.  Sometimes it was a road trip with my Dad, other times I flew......

Let me tell you, nothing made the pre-teen Rhubarb C feel more like a movie star than walking on the tarmac at this airport.  It totally affirmed my notion that I was the city girl, going to visit my country relatives.  I mean, if you had to WALK on the TARMAC, certainly there could be nothing redeeming about the entire state.

As an alleged grown up, I appreciate that getting in and out of smaller airports is often a lot easier than dealing with a monster like SFO or LAX with a billion different terminals.

The new terminal is just recently opened.  A restaurant is projected to open "soon."  There's already a newsstand.  There's also a viewing area on the second floor - you'll be able to see planes take off and land from here.  And there are tables and chairs where you can sit and wait between those events - actually you might wait quite a while for a commercial flight to be on the runway - in the afternoon there's mostly just Fed-Ex planes coming and going.  As evening approaches the pace will pick up, until the last planes come in around eleven p.m.

what I dislike about the Medford Airport...
I have come through MFD twice now- the first time was in 2005, and there was this cofeeshop there (The Red Baron)- it was a nice place to grab a plate of breakfast & kill the time waiting for my plane.
I came back through in July this year thinking "oh I will skip breakfast, I can fill up at the Airport"- WRONG! The Red Baron had closed in my absence, and I had to make do with junkfood crud from these two vending machines in the waiting area--
and after all that, while changing planes in PDX waiting to get home to SFO, they were forty minutes late (there) in delivering my dinner order!
Someone, please, bring back a coffeeshop to the Medford airport!
Otherwise, no meals for 200 miles either direction!
And also otherwise, so far as security lines, go, MFD is a snap and the TSA folks are Super Friendly- like everyone else in the Rogue Valley.

What Jenn C. says & more.  Medford/Jackson County Airport is now considered an "International" airport.  It is a quick in & out, parking is terrific & cheap; only one gift shop with your usual assortment of touristy do-dads & some local artistry.  No restaurant (so I minused a star).

This place is under construction right now as they are in the middle of building a completely new terminal and leveling the old one. I love how I can show up 45 minutes before a flight and not have to worry since it's a small town airport. The new terminal is expected to be finished in Dec 2008. http://www.airport-tec...
