Roger Williams Park Zoo is wonderful, educational and awe-inspiring place to go with a group of friends or the family. Filled with a large number of animals and exhibits, this zoo is sure not to disappoint. Admission for adults is $12. . . snag a coupon! They are easy to come by, I found one for a buy one get one free admission! Try your local library!
Exhibits divided into "lands" including Africa, North America, Tropical America, Australasia, and the Marco Polo Trail. Easily maneuverable, the zoo is set up in a circular pattern. Great for when you are walking around with a large group of children on a field trip. . . makes for less, losing the kids :)
I very much enjoyed the elephants, giraffes, snow leopard, and bald eagle enclosures. A lot of the time you can get incredibly close to the animals with little or no obstruction of view. There's nothing worse than trying to peer through heavily fenced areas and around trees and shrubberies to get a good look. . . clean glass/plastic and cleverly designed exhibits make for a more pleasurable viewing experience.
Food can get expensive here, as one would expect for a zoo. Consider packing a lunch and having a picnic at the surrounding park grounds, there's plenty of them! Along with parking! Also consider going to the zoo during the afternoon hours, it is far less crowded as field trips and families are on their way out after a long day at the park as you are headed in!
Keep an eye out this year for their pumpkin extravaganza. . . it is returning to this venue by popular demand!

The butterfly exhibit should definitely be viewed while it's still there. The delicacy and beauty of these creatures is so accessible that you feel like you can understand them as friends.
I'd not been to a zoo in a while because I don't care to see animals in captivity. I like to eat animals, or keep them as pets. Beside that let them be free.
Seeing them live offers some reverence and less abstraction. There is a remarkable variation of living things on earth and we are a part of that.
Except for the giraffes and that snow leopard the animals in captivity seem cool with it. If I was a big cat I'd want to eat one of those chubby little kids staring at me. It would be instinct of course, but I'd want to sink me teeth into one.

Took the kids to Roger Williams this weekend and we had a pretty good time. Entrance prices were reasonable, $12 for adults and $6 for kids. My word of advice would be to pack your lunch and drinks and bring them with you, the food was expensive.
The Zoo was pretty clean and only smelly in very few spots. Even though the park was under construction in areas there was still a lot to look at. We spent about two hours walking around and saw everything except the butterfly exhibit. A nice place to spend a sunny day with the kids. There are also swan paddle boats out on the lake near the entrance.
Had a great time. Relaxed setting. Could use a little more upkeep around the animal areas.
Yay for animals!
Great exhibits! They have so many different kinds of animals from all over the world.

We went for the first time last Saturday. Late start so we only had an hour and a half to visit but it worked. We even got to see the elephants being fed. The grounds were clean, the animals looked healthy, and the drive didn't kill us. I think it would behove the Zoo to stick a sign on the main gate though.
Better than Southwick's so we'll be back after they finish construction on the new Elephant/Giraffe sanctuary.

Soon to be 5 stars and more...
First of all, I noticed one negative reviewer wrote the review in February, and I'm assuming that she went in February as well. We just went - in March - and no, it isn't prime zoo season, since Feb/March in New England is far different than Feb/March in the African plains or Southeast Asia where a lot of these animals are from. I'm assuming that has something to do with the lack of activity among the animals. But the good news is that there aren't many people in the zoo with you, so you don't feel rushed or bugged by run-away children.
There's also a LOT of construction going on at the Zoo right now. It is still worth the price of admission at the peak of the season (disclaimer: we got in for free because of our membership at the Museum of Science in Boston), but maybe not so much so in the winter when animals aren't active and a lot of exhibits are undergoing renovations.
That being said, we still love the zoo and in the next few years, the zoo is going to become much more impressive. They are expanding their famous polar exhibit to be nine times the original size and adding many other new exhibits.
In the meantime, enjoy the zoo and be sure to check out the rest of Roger Williams Park, including the new Botanical Center, which is awesome.

Im sad to say it, because i LOVED the roger williams zoo back in the day, but this place is depressing. I was there last summer. Where are the animals? Where are the polar bears? Monkeys? Anyone...hello? They have a nerve charging people that kind of money to look at empty pens. People peering under logs and behind trees looking for animals that just aren't in there.
The only reason it gets 2 stars is because 1) i used to love this place and i cant bear to give it less than 2, and 2) the park itself, with the picnic areas, paddleboats and carousel are still decent.

This Zoo is one of the better Zoos in the country and I have been to plenty of them. This is situated right below Providence right off of Route 95. The park is huge and has plenty of exhibits to keep the family busy. It has pretty much every type of animal here and they are split up in different regions of the world and it is done pretty well. They keep it interesting too with facts near the exhibits and a detailed map to get you around. They used ot have the jack o laterns display here which was just awesome, but they have since moved this to Mccoy Stadium in Pawtucket. The prices here are defitnely reasonable for what you get. A must visit attraction in Providence!
Roger Williams Park is a very nice park.
I found the zoo to be very diappointing. While the layout is nice and the animals all looked happy, the polar bears were under construction, and there were no monkeys! How can you have a zoo with no monkey house?
I think next time I'll stick closer to home.

I thought the zoo was great, and I thought the park was even better.
The zoo is medium-sized and I haven't been to many zoos in my life, but I've been to a couple crappy ones and this one was pretty decent (and only 15 minutes from my house). Actually, my dad ditched me on fathers day, and this is where I went to feel better, so that's gotta say something!
But yeah, the park is amazing, very beautiful, I love the japanese garden and the big white thing (sorry) out in the field by the water. I'd certainly recommend if you're in the area, but I'm not sure I'd tell anyone to drive an hour if they have the Southwick Zoo or something nearby.
I don't agree with the last 2 negative reviewers, I was there a couple weeks ago and saw a ton of animals. Bears, the funniest group of monkey's I've ever seen, and a ton of others. The giraffes, elephants, and seals were great too! Seems like they might have gotten their act together since the others reviewed it.
The entire park seems like a nice place to spend the day, whether it be on a date day time date or with your family.

I was so very disappointed by this zoo! I had gone awhile back and I remembered it being so much better and I was excited for this trip.
I will start with the positive: The giraffe exhibit was cool and you could get really close to them. Food/Drinks not too pricey. Monkeys were cute. Reasonable admission price.
Okay the negative: No polar bear, not enough space to view the other animals, constantly competing for a good spot, glass covered with newspaper saying "we are getting use to our new home". Not enough room in the exhibit to view the elephants. You had to go in a building which was way too small. Bathrooms had no a.c. and long lines, seals exhibit was closed for cleaning.
Overall, it was not a good experience. Maybe I just went on the wrong day!!

The sun was shining and it was almost warm! Spring in the park! We went for a little drive around the park and it is slowly showing signs of spring. The Japanese Gardens are almost alive! Lots of birds especailly Geese flocks of them! It was great to be out of doors and the park was lovely. The only negative was the idiotic drivers who seem to think that it is the freeway! It is a damn park slow down you IDIOTS!
