2 reviews for Rodeway Inn
Let's see... I decided on a four day excursion to San Diego recently and I didn't want to spend too much on lodging because I had my days planned from the wee hours of morning until late at night and figured I wouldn't be lounging around a hotel for any significant amount of time. Well, the price was right at around $72 a night on July 4th week-end. Now, let's talk about the room. The rooms are pretty standard with dated design and feature 24 in. television, (ample sized) refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and hair dryer. The air conditioner was impressive and kept the room cold in the 95 degree heat. Room service is decent. Walls ARE thin, but the only disturbance I encountered were people walking down the halls occasionally, which died down almost entirely after around 11 pm. It wouldn't hurt to sleep with ear plugs.
What I was most concerned about when I had finally made the decision to stay at Rodeway Inn was its proximity to San Diego and La Jolla. It turns out, this is a great location and its right near all freeways. There never seems to be any traffic in SD and it never took more than 15 minutes to get to either downtown SD or La Jolla from here. I have to say that for the price, I was really pleased. There's also an amazing restaurant nearby called Mario's De La Mesa and Vons is really close, so you can stock your 'fridge.
I found it through http://kayak.com, averaged around $74 a day with tax and fees. Couldn't find anything in the area through priceline.
I give the staff 4 stars, from Harry at late night check in to find me a 1st floor room since they don't have an elevator to Veronica during the day, who couldn't get my TV fixed but offered another room and a discount of $20 at checkout because my TV didn't work. Even the cleaning lady got me extra pillows and the check out guy printed my boarding pass for me. They were welcoming and friendly and helpful.
Now the motel itself, 2 star, run down, old, old school dusty AC unit in the window, carpet peeling from the wall, smell of cigarette smoke when you first enter the room and it is a non smoking room, tub worn through, dust in the corners and edging of the carpet, TV was staticy, fridge had condensation inside, parking slots are tight for SUVs and mini vans, can hear your neighbors having sex next door and people walking and talking at all hours in the hallway.
Did like the free wifi, fridge and microwave in room. Near both highways and Spring Valley, where I was visiting friends. Henry's organic supermarket nearby and downtown, Los Pinos Taqueria and Denny's across the street.
