Decor is "trying way to hard to be a Texas roadhouse". You'd expect that in a hotel outside of TX, but here it's just somewhat sad.

To the food--I went with my old standby, the bacon cheeseburger. It's was a pretty decent burger. I ordered it med. rare and it arrived as requested. Nicely charred on the outside, nice and cool on the inside. The bun was soft...possibly made on site, but I don't think the meat was. It was seasoned decently--nothing elaborate, a 1/2 pound of salty goodness.

The star of the burger was the pickles. If they're not housemade, I'd be surprised. They were sweet and spicy and chunky like a mofo (like an overweight Rosie Perez).

The bacon sucked pig balls, however. You could tell it was made earlier in the day and reheated for the burger. Shame on you! Way overcooked and brittle like an anorexic, bleach-blonde chick's hair.

Service was a little lacking, but she pulled the subtle move of touching us when she talked. Since she was hot, it made me forget about my empty tea glass for a little while.

Nothing stellar about this joint, but nothing that would keep me from coming back, although I would leave the bacon aberration off the next order.

yeah, the peanuts are cool and make you feel like a real bronco busting cowboy despite being in one of the most pretentious hotels in the heart of the downtown Dallas.  I guess it's a salute to the real Texas.

I was actually staying at the Adolphus for work so the first night I came in after our event for the day and got the smoked chicken quesadilla.  It was okay but very soggy from sitting in a pool of grease.  My friend had a burger which he said was very good and the service was very attentive and friendly.

Based on the burger review, the service and purely being lazy the next night I decided to just stop down here rather than head outside in the 100+ degree weather for some dinner after work.  The menu is a fried mess so I just ordered Jalapeno poppers.  When they came, they were completely frozen in the middle--the outside wasn't even warm to the touch.  I decided to change my order to the wedge salad (which mind you was literally $9).  I didn't want blue cheese dressing so I asked for thousand Island instead.  I literally waited for over 20 minutes.  When it arrived, not only did it have crumbled bleu cheese all over it but bleu cheese dressing as well.  The wedge itself was less than half of what you would expect from a wedge at good steak restaurant--where it's still probably only $7 rather than they 9 they charge at this dump.  I don't mind paying a lot for anything as long as it's quality--this was a complete joke.

I brought the dressing situation to the attention of my server and asked for check--she said "don't worry about it" and I left.  The Adolphus hotel should seriously rethink promoting this restaurant in their in room materials considering that the other establishments are supposed to be very well respected.  I would've loved to try The French Room but it was closed for renovations--oh well I guess I'll miss out because I don't ever plan on coming anywhere near Dallas again.

It was really tough for me, but I forced myself to do it. Everyone was doing it. It's "what you do" in Texas, apparently, or at least at the Rodeo Bar and Grill. My momma would have slapped me, but as I ate from the bucket of roasted peanuts while we waited to order, I sheepishly threw the shells on the floor, amongst the tables, just like the rest of the crowd. I caved to peer pressure.

It did make for a fun, relaxing lunch though. This place is right across the street from where I had a customer meeting, having traveled to Dallas for the day. Nothing spectacular on the menu, just your regular assortment of burgers, sandwiches, salads, etc. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich. I expected the buffalo sauce to be HOT since I was in TX. Well...wimpy wimpy wimpy! It could have been kicked up a notch or two in the heat factor for my likes, but wasn't bad. It was served with a side of habanero ranch dressing which had a nice zing. The service was quick and friendly, and prices were reasonable -- $40 for 4 people. Expense report -- filed!

Just don't slip on yer nuts on the way out. ;-)
