Rocksport is your usual hard-working neighborhood bar that tries to pack in as many different attractions as it can. They do pull it off well enough.
The place is probably half a block long, for starters. It goes for rooms and rooms, almost like a club. Pool tables, dart boards, a frillion tvs, including a gigantic projection system with a wall-size screen. The projection system is in the biggest dining room, which also houses the stage.
All these things are cool with me--I don't dig pool and darts as much as I did in college, but they're fun. The TVs all have good pictures, as far as I could see. Seating's comfortable, service is friendly and quick. I wouldn't ask these servers detailed questions about the way the food is prepared, or the wine cellar or anything, but they do their jobs as well as they can be done--their jobs are mostly taking orders and delivering them, and that's just fine.
But to be clear, there's nothing to set this place apart. They rarely book a band that you'd drive clear across town to see, they offer no top shelf alcohol of any kind, and the fact they offer a couple steaks warrants a whole page of celebration in their menu. I didn't try the food, but it looked and smelled fine on its way past the table. The glasses were clean, and the beer appeared to be poured through clean lines.
Bottom line, I wouldn't say a thing against Rocksport if friends wanted to go in there, but I probably wouldn't make a special trip across the street to visit it, either. With Elliott Bay Brewing, Husky Deli, and a couple other interesting places just around the corner, the only thing that would probably get me in here proactively would be to watch a game with a big group of people. But I'd be perfectly happy doing that. It's just one of those perfectly fine in-between places that doesn't do anything really wrong, or anything really amazing, either.
Rounding up because I've been here twice in the last 2 months and both times were great!
Today came here with hubby & a friend for lunch after rollerblading at Alki. Hubby got the big shrimp, avocado, bacon wrap with onion rings. The onion rings were definitely worth the extra $1.50 sub fee. Friend had a BLT that made me jealous. Bread looked perfect, nice lettuce & tomato & lots of well done bacon. I too was happy with my selection the philly sandwich with fries. I brought half my sandwich home and couldn't finish my tasty fries. Had an entertainment book coupon that saved us $10 and the pitcher of Bridgeport IPA was a very reasonable $13. Wish this place was closer to our house but whenever we need a place to go for a sportsbar, this is top of the list.
I think Rocksport is having an identity crisis. It was trying to be everything. It had a wannabe extensive menu that had lame looking items and it seemed like it was trying to cater to families... They had lots of pool tables, lots of TVs.... oh, and the condom machine in the bathroom (so rarely do I see those)... All the while it was blasting obnoxious techno-esque music.
I was confused as to what this place is. Seeing gangsta wannabes and biker dudes watching football, playing pool while eating with their families was a little too much for me. Their Heff on tap seemed flat and stale tasting and they mixed my friend's drink horribly. Their shots were decent at least...
Not that I'm ever really in this part of town but I doubt I'll ever come back.
First, let me say that I have worked across the street for about fifteen years and have dined here for a long time - but my review is based as a luncher only.
I wonder if this place has changed owners. The quality of the menu has been steadily declining. You used to be able to get all kinds of good eats...a much more upscale menu. Now it's ho-hum, so-so quality and a terrible value in relation to pricing.
Today I placed a take-out order for my coworker and I: two plain old green salads with added chicken - $27!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I looked at my bill I realized that in addition to the gratuity, taxes and menu prices, they are now charging take-out fees.
I miss the good 'ole days of Rocksport's awesome pub lunches...a wonderful variety of soups, sandwiches, seafood (I miss the calamari!!!) and a soup/salad combo that I could afford to do often.
If I'm going to drop the kind of money they're charging for a lunch salad, I expect more than aging romaine, under-ripe tomatoes, grated cheddar from a big Costco bag and a microwave re-heated chicken thigh. I can get the same take-out at Safeway for $5.
This place is pretty boring which can relative depending on opinion. The pool tables are all the way in the back almost secluded, it's pricey, it's yuppie, and well it's boring. Given this place several chances, but always take off after a drink or 2. I'm a talker and almost never is anyone engaging in conversation. The final time I was here, during football season, a patron asked if he could switch The Cowboys game to the Seahawks game instead. There was noone else watching it and the other area was full. The bartender commented "We're a sports bar not a Seattle bar" and said no. Well if that's the case I'll spend my money elsewhere. About the only thing cool in this place was the autographed Soundgarden poster. Funny, I thought this wasn't a Seattle bar?
Update: Flirted with the bartender. Very nice! (insert Borat impersonation). Last Friday I came here for a casual drink with a girlfriend and we ended up doing shots off the bar, chugging beers with people next to us and came to the irrevocable (as I proclaimed it too many times to be retracted) conclusion that these are some awesome waitstaff! Ahem...that is all.

Anything goes here. By that, I mean that you can come here to dance, play some bar games (pool, darts, video games), for a good session of pro sports on a big screen, or just to prefunk during happy hour onto bigger and better things.
The genre of people is so varied that there really isn't a pin pointed "type". The drinks are strong but food and beverage is a little more pricey than most average bars yet, there is nothing more than average about this place.
Nothing too special, nothing too bad....it is your standard notch-above-a-dive bar.
Oh what's not to love about the Cocksport, oops I mean Rocksport, actually a lot of things. It's a sports bar, it's a restaurant, it's a club it's so many things in one I get confused sometimes.
It is a nice place in West Seattle to go watch the games on Sunday. If you end up stuck there with friends in the evenings you'll feel like you stepped back into the 80's so many mullets and feathered hair it's enough to make you think you actually did stepped back in time as you walked through the door. I think everyone should go to the Rocksport at least once in their life.
I played on a Seattle co-rec soccer team for a few years on Thursday nights. Traditionally, we went out to a sports bar after the game either to commiserate, or to celebrate. My favorite of all of our sports bars is in West Seattle--The Rocksport. And that's because of two things: #1 cheap Killer Teas on Thursdays, which helps with the booze budget and #2 the Grilled Ham (and cheese) sandwich. I don't think I've tried much else there, but I haven't wanted to order anything else. (I got the impression that other options weren't so great, which is why this gets a 3.)
Now, I know what you're thinking--that thing #1 is why #2 is so good. But no, I have been back there and ABSTAINED from any adult beverages just to make sure it was soooo good. I don't know what these people are putting in those sandwiches, but they need to keep on doing it (I have a hunch they grill 'em in some sort of garlic salt or garlic powder...and probably with a lot of butter). It's basically just the most perfect grilled cheese sandwich I've come across in Seattle. I hear rumors that Hale's Ales gives them a run for their money...so seeing as Hale's is close by and I don't have to hit I-5, 99 or the West Seattle bridge to get a fix, the next time I have a hankerin', I'm gonna head over there for a little comparison.
Damn, that sandwich was good.
Part "rock" and part "sport" - the Rocksport has a ton of TVs, a huge projection screen, pool, and live music on Friday and Saturday nights.
It's not a classy place but there is an abundance of good people watching. Went there to watch a game Friday night and saw a fascinating mix of senior citizens, families, bachelorettes, and a couple of guys so trashed that the bartender had to 86 them.
The bartender was friendly (even when one of the drunks was hitting on his wife) and there were lots of beers on tap. Food was a good value too. Not necessarily high quality stuff but after a few beers it sure tasted pretty darn good.
Just wanted to show some stars.
Not too classy here @ the Sport, but I think I have had a carbomb here and I know I have gotten into some other trouble after leaving this place, so it can't be all that bad.
This bar has it all-- from live music and dancing to pool, darts, and big games on big TVs. It's got a wide variety of people, which makes people watching always interesting. Great for mixed groups. I can come here with my husband, his friends and my friends, and everyone can have a good time. The servers are friendly and attentive, and will sometimes throw in a free shot or two if you're having a big night.
The Rocksport is an fun place to go out and grab a few beers and a late night snack. It is a bit rowdy at times, and mellows at others. They have Poker on Mondays, and the place is usually pretty busy on Fridays and Saturdays. You never know what you are going to get in terms of the crowd that will be hanging at the Rocksport. They have a ton of TVs and sports on at all times. There is also a large stage for bands and karaoke??? (There was last night anyways). The food is quite good and better than most bar food. A wide menu variety. Next time you are in West Seattle and looking for a cold beer or stiff drink or a good meal drop by the Rocksport.
What a great place to get all drunk and enjoy your downward mobility!
This bar can't decide whether it's a sport's pub, family diner, roughneck bar, or wannabe discotheque - but it's actually quite nice. Avoid it during the day, the lunch specials aren't the best but at night [after the kids go to sleep] it has a special charm. Free pool night is awesome (why my friends dragged me here..), and the DJs on the dancin' nights are not bad.
Stopped in for an early dinner with the wife and munchkin after a day at the Museum of Flight and assorted shopping adventures. The place kinda reminds me of a mullet...business in front, party out back. Since it was family night for us, we hung out in the front with well-tattooed servers (Jenna was a doll!) and a gigantic projection TV airing the pathetic Sonics shooting for their 10th consecutive loss.
No frills in the house or on the menu, but solid, much-better-than-your-average bar food fare. I had the 12 oz. Balsamic Sirloin, thick and masterfully grilled to perfection with tasty mashed potatoes and just-right steamed veggies. A balsamic reduction comes on the side and adds a nice kick to both the steak and the mashers. It's an absolute bargain at $12.99, outdoing ANY of the chain joints who would charge more for a lesser quality, chemically marinated cut of cow.
The Mrs. snacked on donuts at the Daily Dozen earlier, so she opted for lighter fare, ordering a Turkey Dip. Simple, fresh and tasty with a slice of swiss and red onion. Came with a nice serving of lightly battered, perfectly crispy fries.
As we exited out the back door to the parking lot, we noticed it was starting to get lively, with a spattering of TVs and pool players in abundance. Smokers were huddled under the umbrellas outside the back door.
To reiterate, nothing fancy, but worth a trip across the bridge.
We go to Rocksport on Fridays for $10 prime rib, not exceptional but prime rib, vegetables, and parmasian mashed potatoes for this price is unbelievable in Seattle. The chicken wings are also good. Friendly service unless you ask to substitiute french fries! = )
In West Seattle, the Rocksport is the sports and entertainment bar of choice. Located near the famous "Junction" of California and Alaska avenue, you can have anything from a family meal, to a beer with the ballgame, to a hard-rocking night on the town with some of the best local and traveling shows.
the ex luuuuuved the salmon burger...but ...well i think there food is good, a little overpriced....and sometimes u have to B VERY specific....
popular sports bar tv watching place..
