Rockit Room is a good looking place. it's spacious with plenty of lounge-esque seating, multiple bars, flat screen TVs, and a huge dance floor. so why the two stars?

1) the women's bathroom upstairs is always a mess
2) fucking rude bartenders who act like they are too good to make you a drink. blank stares & eye rolling are not very inviting. plus, when we came here for a friend's 21st, i ordered her a birthday shot &, of course, told him it was her first legal drink. he responded by raising his eyebrows & saying "so?". if you don't want to deal with 21st birthday celebrations, don't work at a fucking bar.
3) the fact that they booked Buju Banton is appalling.

i will not be back. ever.

I like the Rockit Room.

It's big.

With two floors.

There's a pool table.

Two bar areas.

Decent amount of seating room.

It's well laid out.

Well decorated.

It has one of those electronic juke boxes.

It has buckets with jenga in it.

It's located right by a plethora of delicious restaurants.

And the upstairs is a sweet location to see an intimate show.

I came here for a Richie Spice and and Spanner Banner's performance recently.

I swayed to and fro in a familiar haze  - the San Francisco fog just outside, while a an older grey haired woman smiled, as she revealed that she was just in town from Oklahoma for a night. I never would have pegged her for a reggae fan, but her eyes glowed as she disclosed that she had picked up a rental car from Oakland just to come to the show, was running on 2 hours of sleep and had an early flight the next morning.

She shook her head...

"Not many reggae acts in Oklahoma."

Great music, cool atmostphere.  The upstairs is for the concert hall and serves many event types including salsa lessons Monday nights.

Downstairs has a cool bar, free live music downstairs on Sundays, pool table, foosball

As a member of the LGBT community, I had a very negative interaction with this business, and I would alert others to be careful.

This will be a very truncated version of my previous review, which the Rockit Room complained about and it was removed--supposedly bcuz it was too "political".

Short story: this is the club that booked "Buju Banton," the infamous "gays must die" singer.  The full back-story is available out there on the internet, but I for one was outside protesting when the show happened, and, fwiw, club management were rude and unaccommodating.  I for one am now boycotting this place, and invite all our allies to join!

Rockit Room deserves 4.25 stars!  I'm a fan and will likely return often.  Here's why:

* Cleaner than you'd think it looks from the outside
* Long, inviting bar
* Fair amount of seating both in the front areas, bar and the back towards the pool table
* Jenga game pieces floating around (drunk jenga is awesome!)
* Free popcorn with toppings such as cayenne pepper, bbq and nacho cheese (score!!)
* Friendly, attentive, generous and stylish bartenders (Renee has style--watch her pour.  Nice she's down to earth and spunky.)

I'll have to catch a live show upstairs soon.

Great for a big group or small.  Tons of stimuli from the jenga to the pool table to the modern juke box to the multiple tvs.  Just go, and expect a chill, fun night out.

The place is always dirty and the bartenders are not very attentive plus my friend has a local band and was treated rudely. Don't go here if you want a decent venue - there are other local bars that have live entertainment that are much better.

What is the deal with women?! I can't figure it out. Stressed for no apparent reason. Working hard, people never understand why?  Hmmm who am I talking about?? I wonder. Well, not to fear. Happy Hour is here!!! Actually a 3 hour happy hour. Thats a pretty dang skippy happy hour! More specifically 6  t o 9 pm e v e r y  d a y !!!
Easy to remember 69!
They have a great amateur stand-up comedy show that goes on all night. You laugh not because they are funny but because it takes some freaking nerve to stand your ass up there and "act a fool". Good thing the crowd is drinking huh. Well, at least good for you! We laugh at anything when we are buzzing!!!
Plenty of seating, pool tables, couches, stools, popcorn, clean restrooms! Bar on Clement and clean restrooms! Is that a contradiction?
Shouts out to Lisa the bartender who pours 'em nice and strong!!!

I'll be back...gotta love the Inner Richmond!!

One of the boys took us to Rockit Room. I liked it because it was chill, they had specials that my friends liked, a pool table, and chill booths. The bay homies got the special "Jack and a Bud Jack?" for $7 which ended up being a shot of Jack Daniels and a Budweiser. I personally do not mix my liquors nor do I like Bud so I stuck with my Washington Apple (made with Crown) but they liked it.  Seven bucks for a shot and a beer? That's crazy!!!! Of course everyone else got the specials, Long Islands, Henessey's, and more so it was a good night. A random guy asked my girlfriend if she wanted to play him in pool and it was a good game to watch. Good friends, crazy boys and crazy girls, drinks, and pool is always good times. :D

The Rockit is the musical gem of the Richmond.   Open mics, comedy nights, and big live shows in the upstairs area.  Great venue, great people, great bartenders, great drink specials!  -5 stars-

The place is under new ownership as of last Dec.  The new owners are attracting some of the best shows in the Bay.  Warped tour after party?  Yuk Mouth?
They also have about 15 beers on tap now.  Drink specials are off the chain.  Thursday night: Pint of pyramid FOR 2 BUCKS ALL NIGHT!!!!!  Can't beat that

A real bar band's bar.  A great friend of mine brings his band to play here a couple times a year, and the main reason is, he gets a good, fun crowd that's open to their music.

It's always fun to catch them play.  The beer's cold, the bartenders are friendly, and the sound is surprisingly good for such a small establishment.

Leather sex room, here I come!!!

Gone:
Paranoid-psycho manager firing their best bar-tender, and making bands hate to come here because of weird, ever-changing rules.

New/Returned:
New owner, new manager, new bouncer.  (And might I add that I fucking admire that bouncer.  He is extremely serious about his job.  Not a dick.  Just dead serious.  I would not mess with him.)  Aaaand, they rehired that good bartender (still charming and handsome, still pouring the perfect dirty martini).

Same wonderfulness:
LEATHER SEX ROOM
Excellent layout & sound system.  Upstairs is such a perfect live music venue
Foosball table lives on
Very eclectic mix of shows (from Bismarkee to DAK and I do believe they've even hosted our very own Yelper Keane's band, Festizio)

Nice about-face, Rockit Room.  You get your stars back!

I met some friends there and got lucky with street parking right in front. They had no problem either. It was a week night and we were a bit early. There was a kool rock band playing and surprizingly enough, there is an upstairs and they had salsa lessons. The Salsa lessons were packed and looked like fun.

Anyway, the downstairs, where I was, had nice bartenders and I hear that the bands there are usually pretty good.

I had a good time and so did my girl friends. I would like to come back and check out the upstairs.

I remember when the Rockit Room was the Last Day Saloon.  They managed to clean the downstairs up a bit and created a bathroom that has absolutely nothing in common with the rest of the bar.  When I walked in there I thought I was magically teleported to the Marina.  Then poof spit back out onto the bar's dirty floor.

So I like it, I don't love it.  I have gone to see friends' bands play but I will not get on the bus and go to the Rockit Room just to hang out.  There isn't anything necessarily wrong with it, but it's not exactly memorable.  My only memory of this bar is when it was the Last Day Saloon and they wouldn't let in my friend.  There were a few USF bar nights there but I don't know if they still go down there.  Actually I would rather go next  door to the Dogs Bollix.  Again, I have no rhyme or reason for this.  Oh I do have one memory oh it as the Rockit Room.  The DJ upstairs told me if I requested a song he didn't have I would get a free drink.  I requested "Shotgun" by Jr Walker and the All-Stars.  No he didn't have the song and no he didn't give me a free drink.  Shady!

Went to Clement Street to dine at the most popular food establishment on the block between 4th Avenue and 5th Avenue. Name on list with a 1 hour wait. Alrighty...so what do we do? Find a local bar, of course! Lucky us, there were at least three within a block of the restaurant.

It was a toss up between Rock It and the place next door, but when we saw the pool table (albeit coin-op and not free) AND the foosball table...we knew we had found a diamond in the rough.

PRE-DINNER:

Foosball and pool challenges ensued with me getting my "ass served", repeatedly. But it was soooooo much fun that the time totally flew by (the two beers helped - $3 NewCastle at happy hour?! Awesome!) There were also pretty chill, laid back people hanging out there. 1.5 hours later...with a comedy show about to start.

"hey, should we go check to see if our table is ready?"
"why yes, that sounds like a good idea..."

As we're heading out the door, the comedian starts his act and we just had to say to him:

"it's not you...it's us..."
he says, "oh, it never is..." sarcastically

haha. Funny guy. I kind of wanted to stay after he said that.

POST-DINNER:

Still buzzing from the two beers from earlier and the one beer at dinner...we mosey on back to Rock It. We didn't see our pre-dinner "friends" anymore but we did find a couple fellow diners at the restaurant we had just come from. Guess they were still buzzing from the beer at dinner too...or digesting...or just wanted to check out how cool Rock It was because we were raving about it back at the restaurant entrance while we waited to be seated.

Let the games begin, again...foosball (I was kind of getting a hang of it....KINDA)...more pool where I made some sick ass shots and then a lot of freakin' lame misses. =P

Good music - they use Pandora. How awesome is that?

There's some sort of theme every night. Tuesday nights are Comedy Nights, apparently. Supposedly there are bigger shows here (see other reviews) and they take place upstairs. Wednesday nights are Guitar Hero/Rock Band nights...? Thursdays you can get $2 NewCastles all night! I wish I lived closer because you know where I'd be.

We had a blast. Evidenced by the fact that we stayed until closing. How many places have you stayed at until closing? And as they were closing...they played "Closing Time" per our request. AWESOME! I love that they can be serious (doing their management job stuff) and have a sense of humor at the same time.

And....THAT'S ALL FOLKS because that's all I can remember.

For a place this popular, you need to hire more bartenders.

Drink prices are reasoanble, and definitely not hard to grab a table for a Saturday night.  Maybe because we didn't come on a band night.

Good place to kick back with a bottle of beer and a handful of friends, looking up at the multiple screens on various basketball games.

Alright.. I promised myself I would update the review...as I was talked into attending Friday night for a concert and run in with some fellow yelpers.

As I made my way up to the gloom and doom upstairs I was surprised by the space. I don't know if I was drunk the first time, or maybe it was too crowded but the ceilings were not as low as I previously stated. It still seems a bit attic like, but I will not be had for a liar, hence the update.

I thought the 10 dollar cover was excessive for the venue.. but Rockit did exceed my expectations.. I wish more people would hang out downstairs, its much nicer than upstairs.

They probably keep it that dark so you can't see the filth!

No good, scummy, dirty, way too dark...

Apparently my last review for them got removed so I'm just going to say, that I worked here for about 2 weeks when first living in San Francisco. Horrible way to run a business, and other bartender was always wasted. They make their bartenders clean up puke???? That's right when I said, buh-bye! I don't think so buddy, I'm not a bar back or a janitor. Manager used to call me at all hours cursing and being really unprofessional.

First and foremost, I came here to see my best friend's new boy's death metal band. Terrible idea. There was a $10 cover. I reluctantly paid it. Let me also mention that the guy in the death metal band has a 30 year old friend that's way into me. In fact, he had asked me out five times that week. Um, get a clue?

So it's not the Rockit Room's fault that I was in a shitty situation. I get that. However, they in no way whatsoever helped the situation.

We go upstairs and it stinks and it's gross all around. I head straight to the bar where I am told there's a $15 minimum on credit cards and they don't do tabs. What kind of fucking bar  doesn't do tabs? If it was cash only I could slightly understand that. But if you can take credit cards then you better start me a freakin' tab. So now I'm in the position of where I have to order four beers for two people just to make the minimum. The bartender gives me my beers and says that one of them is on the house and the total is $10. Oh, hell no. Don't give me a free beer when I'm trying to make the minimum! So I had to order another beer. Thanks. Now I'm drunk.

The death metal band sucks balls and the guy in it completely ignores my friend after the show. I asked his friend what's going on and he tells me his friend is trying to hook up with other girls. He then goes to the bathroom. My friend comes over and tells me someone puked on the stairs. And that's my cue. We leave while the guy is in the bathroom and I tell him to "fuck off and die" when he texts me to ask where I am.

I hope I never end up at the Rockit Room ever again.

The space upstairs is wide open, the sound was not bad and the drinks were cheap.  6-9pm was happy hour and pretty much everything was $3.  I was given 4 whiskey sodas throughout the night, maybe 2 of them were right.  I'm pretty sure one of them was made with tonic water and that's an abomination.

Johnny Hi-Five, United High, the other 2 opening acts and Jamie Scott's intro of Johnny Hi-Five were worth the aggravation parking around here usually entails.  After Jamie's performance, he was asked by management to open for Biz Markie next month.  Pretty exciting.

Have you heard of that new show on VHI called "Tool Academy" where tools get a last chance at love and learn to change their tooly ways?

Well this place screams Tool Academy. It tries way too hard to be a "cool" bar and fails miserably on every level. The music is horrendous. I've never heard more dreadful music in a bar--there's a constant stream of old, lame Usher, Rhianna, and Nelly Furtado tracks blasting in a largely empty bar in some sad attempt to get people to dance. One point for the enormous leather couches--good for big groups if Dirty Trix is crowded or you can't stumble across the street to the Bitter End.

Final thought: eew. I need a shower.

Im so glad Curt L. had his birthday bash here last night. I always passed by this place but never stepped in. Never knew why because this place is one of the better bars/lounge I've been to. Very spacious. They had so much seating! Tables and even booths and comfy seats all around the bar. They even have a stage AND a dance floor! And the DJ played awesome music!

Drinks were pretty cheap too! Since I have been working practically every single day, I really needed a drink. Maybe I had a little TOO much because I woke up with bruises on my legs and arms, Facebook picture of me kissing my GF, hearing that I bumped my head, fell on the floor.. etc. BUT I did have fun... that night.. NOT the morning after. Having to wake up at 530 did not help my hangover. Going to work in PJs, no makeup, and didn't even brush my hair? NOT good. I hope you're happy I went Curtis cuz I would NOT do that for anyone else!

I'm all about improvement.

I think life should be better at the end of a day when compared to the start, if even just by a little. So when I found out Rockit Room underwent new management, I expected good things. The new team provided more attentive service and helped plan a seamless night even during their hectic transition. Hopefully, they'll get the kegs working upstairs again, but as long as they comp me a few bottles, I won't mind so much. ;)

Thanks to everyone who showed up last night for our show to support Spark! There's a little girl whose dreams are closer to coming true thanks to you. It's yet another brilliant, bright light in the glow of the Holidays! And if you still feel like giving, please visit: http://sparkprogram.or....

I'm all about improvement, evolving into a state where what once was a huge deal becomes an appreciated routine, where you end up spending the big night not wandering the streets plastered with Mel's on your shirt, but rather eating apples at home and watching the first half of "The Incredible Hulk."

Rock on.

We found ourselves here after majority of our group was snubbed by Bruno's at new year's eve and had to count down in line in front of stoney-faced bouncers with pea-sized brains.

By contrast, Rockit room had no wait, friendly bartenders (one of whom was sporting a cute English accent), strong drinks (think 151-proof liquor that hit you seconds after you take a shot with the bartenders and one guy who, quite possibly, was the proprietor.  It was, after all, toward the end of the night, the mood was subdued and we could actually score a couple of the bar stools.

In hindsight, I wished I had chosen the more laid back Inner Richmond as a NYE countdown option, as opposed to the trying-too-hard-to-be-emo-hipster Mission.

For the record:
1) Bruno's is now on my sh!t list, and
2) Some of us did manage to sneak into Bruno's using the age-old technique of "sharing" the hand stamp with others who legitimately made it in, only to find out about the overpriced vodka and tonic.
3) A few seconds after count down, 80% of the Bruno's patrons were leaving by the droves.  Half an hour into 2009, the place was deserted.  At that time, we weren't there to witness it - we were having too much fun at the Rockit Room.
4) Up yours, Bruno's.

Rockit Room is quite a decent venue for checking out music acts and having a good time with friends.

There's plenty of space to sit around and hardly a wait for a drink. My bartender was helpful and patient with my indecision, which is always good. The drinks are about average price, but they do take credit card after $15, which is convenient for people too lazy to get cash.

Oh yeah, it's a venue too! I'm certainly no expert in the fine workings of a sound system, but everything sounded crisp and clear enough for my ears.

So overall it was a fun and effortless experience on their part. That's all you really want out of a place like this, right?

Down down down.  New owners are as clueless as the old ones.  They wanted some ridiculous amount of people guaranteed for a wednesday night show at their overpriced venue w. asshole bartenders (at least upstairs), and since our booking agent couldn't do that (we had maybe 80 folks coming), the show got canceled.  I can't wait for this place to go out of business.

My friends and I call this place the Suckit Room.  There's no need for such pretentiousness in the Inner Richmond.  A testimonial to their own laziness - the "calendar" link on their webpage takes you to the myspace.  They don't even try over here.  Boo.

The Rockit Room is a lot like the Raiders--you know they will be great as soon as they get rid of one guy, for the Rockit, it was the former management, for the Raiders, it's Al Davis.  Well, Rockit is ahead of the Raiders, it's now under new management!  Now, Rockit still has a pourous O-line and no real threats, but for them that's actually a good thing.
So some pretty good changes have occured already, the best being the awesome array of quality alcohol!  Hanger One, bunch of awesome tequila's and whiskey's!  New floors downstairs and just making it a nicer place.  This place is a welcome Oasis from the dirty dive bars in this neighborhood.  And I love having a nice music venue on this side of the City.

If you used to come here and were annoyed by the ownership and workers, come back, give it another shot, you won't be disappointed.

And somebody poison Al Davis please...

I read a ton of negative reviews of this place while riding MUNI to the Festizio show last night so my expectations were not the usual blank slate, but as I walked in I immediately got a beer downstairs and headed up to check out the music space.

The space itself is really nice and the perfect size.  The bar upstairs was weak just b/c the taps didn't work so I had to run downstairs to get more beer.  Otherwise the sound was pretty good and the crowd was solid.

Of course it was a Festizio crowd mostly I would say and those peeps are all pretty awesome.  Festizio was great too - my first time - and overall the time spent at Rockit was fun so I'd definitely consider checking out some other bands there in the future.

The Boyfriend's band was playing a show, I got 25 of my good friends to join me in the inner richmond for what we expected to be a great night. I should have known something was up when the guy at the front  door was wearing a fedora with a feather sticking through it. and continously hit on me  aware my boyfriend was in the room. So then I went upstairs and went to get a drink only to find the bartender completeley ignoring me for some girl he was smooching. I will come back in a minute and try again. 10 minutes later I come back still he wont even turn around to look at me so I walk to the downstairs bar where throughout the night I order a total of 7 drinks aprox $50 including tip.

I watch the show, the sound is great, the audio guy did a great job. The bartender upstairs is still ignoring people. asshole. At the end of the night we pack up all the gear and the Fedora Bouncer man comes up to me and says "Amanda, I just wanted to thank you for coming, you have an amazing presence" Yikes, I'm outta here! Then to end it all they don't get paid, they don't even get a drink ticket. Apparently they didn't have enough people pay to get in, considering there were 50 people upstairs I would say

A.   Mister fedora man didn't do his job or
B.   They are sketchy

They also said the bar did not meet the $100 min which I know is total bullshit. I drank $50 myself!!!! Are you trying to tell me that all the people in the rest of the bar couldn't add up to me? I know my friend had a tab of $30. If they are only taking the upstairs bar into consideration than yeah, maybe it was $100 but thats because he was more concerned about getting laid than he was making drinks.

The band wrote the bar an email voicing their concern on not getting paid or even just a drink ticket and after some emails back and forth it ended with the owner telling them

"best keep your opinion to the emails. in person would be bad for you"

It was pretty chill here, but I still like Buckshot better because the drinks are not as cheap.  The atmosphere changes, sometimes there is a really fun crowd and other times it is full of old creepy men, you just have to get lucky... but I guess that depends on what you are looking for.  The bartenders are nice, the staff is nice, and the drinks are reasonably priced.  They also play pretty good music, and you can watch live music upstairs most nights.  It is a good place if you just want to chill with friends, and isn't too crazy downstairs.  You can also play foosball and pool which is great.

My band played here last night with two other bands. One band was from the east bay and one was touring from Seattle. The venue is pretty large upstairs they have a 225 person capacity. The sound guy was great and very accommodating; he made the monitors sound great and from what I heard, every band thought it sounded amazing.

The reason I'm giving this place one star is because they totally robbed us at the end of the night! They paid us 0, that's right nothin! Not even a drink ticket. Their excuse was that we didn't have enough people to get paid. That is just bullocks for a club to say that. There were about 50 people there when we played in the last slot on a thursday night. So as far as I'm concerned, the club treated us like shit. For a touring band to come from Seattle, another band from the east bay, and then we came up from Mountain View / Redwood City; and for the club to give you nothing, when you bring them business! That's bad business if you ask me; I've played a lot of clubs and we always get something at the end of the night. Thumbs down to you Rock not Room.

when you walk into a bar and can't find your ID easily, it's nice when the bouncer recognizes that you're with people over 21 and that you're probably over 21.  It's not nice, however, when you say to the bouncer, as you're ruffling through your purse "oh believe me, i'm over 21" and the bouncer says back,

"uh, you're over 30".

okay, minus one star.

so we go into the bar.  filled with douchebags.  some with mohawks, some with tiny shiny tank tops.  Try to get a drink.  For a half an hour.  Apparently wasn't enough to stand there with money in hand, i would have had to crawl over my friend in the tiny shiny tank top and shout at the bartender.

I guess i choose to not do that because i am, as you all know, over 30.

Go up to see my friend's band play - decent space, good sound, no bartender, so you must go downstairs to get the drink that takes 1/2 hour and then get back upstairs to the show.  Because of this separation, people supporting their friends' bands only go upstairs when their friends' bands are on - not very cool for any of the other people playing.

Did i mention the douchebags?

All in all, not a HORRIBLE place, but not someplace I'd go back to, ya know, ever.

I went here last night to watch a couple of friends perform for "Acoustic Monday". The location is no different from when it was called the Last Day Saloon. My musician friends used to play that venue, too. Huge space upstairs with a stage. It's still a cool venue to watch your favorite local bands up close and personal.

Downstairs has huge comfy chairs and a pool table. No frills here, but enough space for you and a few friends to enjoy yourselves.

Monday night is $5 pint and a shot night. The website says $4, but they were charging $5 last night. Unless I was just drunk and couldn't hear the bartender correctly...who knows? The bartenders are pretty cool and helpful. My friend spilled wine on another friend's scarf and the bartender quickly delivered soda water and salt to clean the mess.

Tuesday nights are OPEN MIC nights which is open to all musicians. I have yet to check that out. But it's Happy hour all night with free admission. So, I'm bound to stumble in on a Tuesday night...

I've attempted to patronize most of the bars in the Inner Richmond feeling it's best to spread my money around (geez, I sound like Obama now...heh).

The Rockit Room would be a great bar in a different neighborhood. The Rockit Room is surrounded by numerous dive bars in a neighborhood known for its dive bars, yet the Rockit Room isn't a dive bar. It a music venue...no wait, I think it's a lounge? No, I'm greatly mistaken, it's a billiards room...yah, billiards room! No, that doesn't sound correct either. Darn. Truth be told, I don't think the Rockit Room knows what it is and what it should be.

And that's one of the bar's greatest drawbacks: its inability to establish an identity. Team that with an inconsistent clientele, (sorry, it's typically swarming with USF juniors) bartenders that have to consult a book in order to make a simple, classic cocktail like a Manhattan, cheezy pop music, the lack of a jukebox, and live music that makes ones ears bleed (c'mon, music helps create an atmosphere!) and you have a bar that should seriously count its blessings for still being in business.

They do have nice leather seating areas if, ya know, that makes a difference.

I like and dislike this bar equally. I like it because there's an upstairs venue area that has the potential to be something great. But they always have crappy bands and open mikes. I have yet to see live music at the rockit room that I like.

I like that it has a pool table here as well. As well as an ackward back area filled with metal furniture. I can't go back here anytime soon because my ex boyfriend and his friends frequent this bar often.

It's a good place for a first date because it's not divey, but it's not super fancy either. You can play pool and get to know each other. Make out on the metal chairs in front of everybody.
