My sweet Odin just loves going to Rockin' Roxy's. The people in there are friendly, and seem like they genuinely like dogs (i.e., they aren't just kids looking to get their beer money). The price is fairly reasonable, and it's a good way for me not to feel guilty on the three days that he would otherwise have to be hanging in his kennel. I think that regardless, it's a good way for your dog to get socialized (especially when they are puppies, like Odin is). It's also a good way to tire him out. I don't think that he gets a second of rest all day long... when he comes home, he inhales his food (this is actually not a common thing for him), and passes out.

The process = take your dog for an appointment, make sure he can get along with others. Once you get the thumbs up, then you can start taking your dog to day care. The first package that I bought was 1/2 off, which really made it a good deal.

    They board as well.

    Overall great experience thus far...

I checked out Rockin Roxy's for potential Christmas boarding of the pup.  Everyone was really nice and the place was clean.  The only problem was that it's a bit small.  For smaller or older or lazier dogs it's probably just fine, but for a medium sized runner it wasn't a good fit.  We had her do day care one day and she wasn't tired out at all.  In a pinch I would feel completely comfortable leaving Q here, but it won't be our go-to place just because of her exercise needs.

***Reviewer's Note: I wrote the review below to comment on my experience a couple of years ago. After I initially posted it, I was contacted by the owner, who accused me of purposely trying to ruin her business. Therefore, I am re-posting the review with this disclaimer, as I don't feel it was appropriate for the business owner to NOT offer a way to fix the issue instead of accusing me of trying to ruin her business.***

I had to go out of town for 5 days and left my little guy here. He'd been to many overnight boarding places before, but when I picked him up from Roxy's he was definitely not happy with the situation. Usually he would see me and run and give me some attention. But when I picked him up from Roxy's he ran right past me and straight for the door, scratching at it furiously. When I let him out he peed for what seemed like 5 minutes. So not only was he miserable, he also hadn't been let out that morning. Nice. Won't be taking him here again. In hindsight I realize that I should have gone back to report the issue to the owner.

Rockin Roxy's you truly do ROCK!  Why do we profess our utmost respect and admiration for you?

Your facility is clean.  It's well staffed.  You get on the floor with the dogs and let them slobber all over you.  You actually seem happy to see our dog and enjoy having her as part of the group.  You do what you say you will; you feed her and give her nap times and take her for walks.  You watch the dogs while they play and you interact with them, instead of shoving them in kennels and listening to them bark.  You love dogs.  We can tell you love dogs.

Oola spent 9 hours there yesterday, the longest she has ever been away from us.  When we picked her up she was hanging out with the owner in the front office, looked happy and healthy, and she fell asleep on the car ride home.  She slept all through the evening and night and even is a little pooped today.

We know she will be well cared for when she's boarded, and we aren't going to worry about being away from her when that time comes.  We were thinking of bringing her back for a half day here and there just to wear her out, because a tired puppy is a good puppy, and Rockin' Roxy's makes all of us happy!

    Addended on 12/27/07:
Now I've used the services for boarding too, for 5 nights.  Oola seems to have had a great time!  I was able to call and get an update, since I'm neurotic, and they even sent a photo of Oola playing with the stinkiest dog to my cell phone.  She was SO STINKY when we brought her home, as were her bedding and toys, which tells me she had a great time getting slobbered on by all the other dogs.  I'll be going back to Rockin' Roxy's for our boarding and day care needs.

    Addended again 3/08:
We've used Rockin' Roxy's again for boarding and as we expected, everything went just fine.  She lost a bit of weight because she refuses to eat while boarded, despite the staff enticing her with liver powder and chicken broth.  She came home so tired, she slept for a day.  We'll be back!

We lurv Rockin' Roxy's.  One, it's in our dog, kid friendly walkable, shopable Sellwood hood.  Cute diner like décor in vintage black, red and white.  Youthful staff that engages with pups.  My Siberian blocks the door and won't let me out on many am's to work until I load him the car to play all day.  Accessible outdoor area with great little ghetto dog pool when it starts to heat up.  Staff has always been helpful in a pinch for doggie shuttle service as well.  Great deals on packages also for frequent fliers.

I picked my dog up from Roxy's half an hour ago, and right now I'm at home, attempting to keep him from touching anything, and waiting for the only dogwash open on Monday to open. He came home absolutely reeking of urine, crusty-faced, and with poop all over his butt (suggesting that he had diarrhea, but the Roxy's folks didn't mention it if he did.) I've gone to Roxy's repeatedly over the past few years, mostly because of all the good reviews and because once he went once, I figured it was better to leave him somewhere familiar than to keep trying new places...but I think after this last time, we're going to have to find somewhere else.

The first time I left my dog there, I brought him in wearing a harness...which they apparently left on all week, to the point where his poor armpits were rubbed raw when I picked him up. Another time, I was told "Oh, he got peed on so I was just about to give him a bath..." (I guess since I was there to pick him up, that honor was transferred to me. It wasn't particularly early on the pick-up morning, either.) They also somehow lost a favorite toy, and replaced it with some narsty thing from the doggie lost-and-found (but the dog seemed happy enough with the trade so we didn't really care. I'm not sure how a doggie lost and found can exist without them forgetting to send home toys, though.)  The dog always seems happy enough when we pick him up, but after paying hundreds of bucks for boarding, I don't think I should have to cancel my plans and haul him over to pay for a U-Wash immediately afterwards every time,. y'know? I'm crossing my fingers that whatever diarrhea he picked up was mild and has passed, but who knows. We won't be back, though. He'll just have to adjust to somewhere else.

These guys really love the dogs. There's always someone in playing with them, and they're really attentive to inter-doggie dynamics. Thanks Eric, Jkea and Tricia for giving Koko a home away from home on those busy or rainy days when we can't get her the exercise she needs. She always sleeps well after a day of Rockin'!

I don't know what I'd do without Roxy's. Three months ago I took home a wonderful/terrible 1ish year old Border Collie/Lab rescue dog. She has more energy than I know what to do with. When I got her, I thought I'd be able to work from home with her, but the sad truth is, I'm not not that much fun when I'm sitting in front of a computer. I take Mississippi to Roxy's a few times a week so that she can have fun with other dogs while I work. Since she started going to Roxy's, she has mellowed considerably at home. Some of her more destructive tendencies have been tamed and she is getting great at playing with other dogs. We've used their boarding care facilities a couple times and I know she's in the best hands possible when we can't take her with us.
