    BAGELS! GET THE BAGELS!!!

I live in North Idaho, and I'm very disappointed with the selection of just about everything. Seriously, I've been hard pressed to find much of anything food related that has impressed me, so I wasn't expecting to find a good bagel within 200 miles of where I live, but a friend took me to Rocket, and BAM! They knocked it out of the effing park.

A couple months later I was driving a friend who lives in NYC to the Spokane airport and we hadn't had any breakfast, so I suggested we hop into Rocket for a bagel and coffee. My friend was so impressed with her bagel, she actually said, "This is the best bagel I've ever had in my life!", and I'm pretty sure she meant it.

You practically can't turn a corner in Spokane without running into a Rocket Bakery. As running into things go, you could do a lot worse than the Rocket. I mean, the Rocket on Howard practically got me through grad school.

The bagels and pastries are delicious, as are the pre-made salads, quiches, and sandwiches. Drinks are good, too. Most of the Rockets have wi-fi, and the atmosphere is clean and inviting. Hanging out seems to be encouraged. And if you get there early enough, you just might be able to grab one of the prized bags of day-old bagels for $1.00. Bonus!

What's not good about the Rocket? Oh, that would be the service. Most of the Rocket branches I've visited have had surly, hipster barrista types working behind the counter. "So sorry be a bother while you're standing there doing nothing, but could I trouble you for a pesto bagel?" Not so great.

But there are a few gems out there, like the Rocket on Howard. Everyone there has always been unfailingly nice and helpful. I only wish the employees of all the Rockets could be as terrific.

Pricey by Spokane standards.  Half sized portion of the Greek wrap (hummus, tomatoes, feta, black olives, and cucumbers), small Thai chicken pasta salad that comes with your choice of a bagel or a day-old pastry.  I went with the pesto cheddar bagel.

Wrap was bland and needed a tangy Greek dressing sort of sauce in it.  The veggies were cut more for a hamburger and not a wrap making it really awkward and messy to eat.  Lastly, the pasta salad was bland and didn't spell Asian to me.

Ambiance is nice.  Quaint cafe looking place in Downtown.  They also have an open layout, like the doors slide open so you feel like your sitting outside but are actually still inside.  Community tables available too.

Parked on the street.  Metered 2 hour parking, except Sunday.  It was Sunday :)

I love love love the pastries and sweets at Rocket. I used to live in Millwood and would stop in twice a week for something sweet and some nice hot coffee. I live downtown now and the location isnt as nice, but the product is always amazingly delicious and the nobake cookies are still my favorite.
The staff is always nice and it's a pretty chill place to relax and sip on some coffee. (with something sweet of course)

Rocket Bakery is completely perfect in every way except customer service. Most of the time, the people working at the register are cranky and seem like they are hating their life.

However, I am still completely obsessed with their bagels, I can't get enough and nothing can deter me from visiting their at least 3x a week. Good drinks, really good tea, and a great selection of beer and wine.

Rocket Bakery is the heat and everyone in Spokane should go there for their breakfast and lunch needs.

Nerd alert # 2... Or perhaps it should be, "must review while in establisment, or will forget name and other important details"

It's a cold Sunday morning in Spokane, and after failing to go back to sleep, I decided a stroll to Rocket Bakery would be good.

The place is quite big, yet feels cozy.  Young and old alike sit in mismatched tables and chairs.  Not feeling coffee? There's beer, wine, ice cream in the back, to satisfy your little heart's desire.

I'm about to attack my breakfast sandwich, the perfect cure after a long night of drinking

There are plenty of Rockets in Spokane to visit.  Most of them carry the same pastries (depending on availability) and all of them serve the same great Caffe Vita coffee beans.  True, some baristas are better than others, but for the most part, every Rocket is great.

My personal favorite, however, is the Rocket on Cedar and 1st.  This is the old home of Fitzbillies Bagels, a Spokane favorite with unbeatable bagels.  Then, the Rocket bought the joint and now THEY make the best bagels in town.  The baristas here are spot on, it's been at least 3 years since I've had a beverage there that needed improving.  They have a hug selections of baked goods: scones, cakes, cinnamon rolls, muffins, bars, breads, and cookies of all kinds.  (You've seen the pink cookie, you know you love it.) They have a very reasonably priced breakfast bagel that is absolutely addictive.  Try it with an asiago cheese bagel and have them go light on the turkey ham.  It's delectable.

If you're not in a baked goodie/coffee mood, they have soups, salads, sandwiches, and a large beer and wine selection.  You could meet anyone here at any time and everyone would find something they liked and were in the mood for.  If you're a Spokanite, you can't walk in here without seeing at least two people you know.  At least, I never can.

Like other well-loved downtown establishments, The Rocket on First has great outdoor seating.  It's a great place to walk from Browne's Addition and enjoy your morning coffee with your four-legged friends.

If you're from out of town and you're looking for great coffee, you won't be let down here.  It's easy access on and off the freeway, and most people don't know that there's free parking in the lot just west of the building. Enjoy!

Coming from out of town on 2 separate trips to Spokane, this place is great. Lots of seating, corner location in historic looking building, and tasty eats. Even convenient off the highway, easy parking, and free wifi.

I like their sweet baked goods, tho a savory scone was a bit too lumpy and moist for me. Sandwiches are good and huge, but the choice is a bit limited. I liked the eggy cheesy crusty quiche too. Get some "day olds" to save a little dough. Friendly staff.

Cool place to hang out and read or work, with nice and kitchsy cafe decor. Seems to be a wine shop in the back.

Walked by this place by accident while killing time in Spokane.  I ended up going back everyday I was in town and discovered they had excellent bagels as well as pretty good pastries and pasta salads.  Recommended!

One of the better cups of coffee in Spokane.

They are just around the corner from Frank's Diner and closed to the Brown's Addition on the West side of town.

The vibe is like an old mom & pop grocery store complete with viny flooring.

They have a wide selection of beer and wine as well as a full deli and they make their own pastries (assumingly not at this location).

Great baristas; no fuss, using Cafe Vita beans from Seattle. They mean business!!

My favorite Rocket Bakery location. I walk up the stairs from Peaceful Valley and *BAM!* there it is. I'm currently doing penance because I just now found out about this place. It's the closest food/drink place to my house, and I've been at my current location for 7 months...I can be quite the village idiot sometimes.

    Notables:
    - Nice little patio section (I probably wouldn't have mentioned this normally, but the weather was perfect when I stopped by this morning)

    - As others have wisely noted, interior is both spacious and cozy. It is the jumbo shrimp of indoor spaces.

    - BEER SELECTION! As one of Spokane's council of 12 beer geeks I feel like a fool for not knowing about this place. Lots of good bottled beer to drink there or take some to-go. (I don't advocate discretely drinking a micro-brewed ale in a park on a beautiful day and recycling it...that's against the law of course)

    - For all you wine people out there, the wine selection looked to be pretty decent as well.

    - The roast beef bagel sandwich. It has HORSERADISH! And the horsey hasn't been neutered/guilded either, it actually packs some nose-fume punch, kudos for not nerfing the horseradish guys!

    - Baked goods: it IS a bakery after all. I'm not much into baked goods/sweets, however there were many to be had here, and they were effing YUGE! Is it just me or have only the biggest and baddest of carrot cakes been passing on their genes resulting in bigger-than-a-breadbox personal carrot cakes? (this applies to most all baked goods. Muffins, I'm lookin' at you too)

    So why not 5 stars?

I've been feeling like a whore lately, I give 'em up too easily.

    and

I'm kind of cheap. $8 for a bagel sandwich and coffee to go just doesn't feel quite right to me. (as another reviewer pointed out though, these are easily the best bagels in town)

This one is my favorite Rocket. I like the downtown location. Parking is metered, but there's almost always a few spots open on the block. Nice place for breakfast or lunch. The bagels and pastries are great, but they don't put much meat on the sandwiches. They serve Cafe Vita coffee, which sure beats Starbucks but I wish they'd use a local roaster like Craven's, Thomas Hammer, or DOMA. Service is never bad, but as some other reviewers say, the staff is a little grouchy sometimes.

Shortcomings aside, Rocket Bakery is my favorite cheap, quick breakfast place in town. The bagels and pastries can't be beat in Spokane.

I like this place.  I'll have to come back to see if the quality holds up for more than a very honest, homemade, tasty pastrami sandwich.  Looks like they have good coffee and homemade baked goods.  Nice selection of wines by the bottle for take home.   Comfortable to hang out.  Good and nice service.

My one gripe:  Only one electrical outlet in the whole sitting area.  Man, I hate these old buildings.

Cool old building, nice selection of pastries, bagles, light meal items.   I enjoyed a huge half tuna sandwich that was delicious.  Coffee could be a little stronger, but I'd rather be here than Starbucks any day.

Been coming back here every time in Spokane, speedy wifi connection and great bagels, coffee.

Only went here once, but it was nice a nice place to pick up a coffee, and get a very tasty toasted bagel and cream cheese.  This place was also pretty hopping with a bit of a line--also a good sign of a nice place.

Greatest breakfast bagel sandwiches in town. Especially with the jalapeno bagel, or everything bagel if you're a little bit timid like my puppy. Great coffee. Can get a little busy on the weekend mornings, but usually service is fast.

Great place to pick up a cup of Americano or beverage of your choice, but unfortunately their pastries were lacking umph.  For me, I like it when coffee shops offer good pastries and a good cup of joe...those two go together like peanut butter and jelly.
