They have a bellydance booth at this store. I love.
I hear they also have classes there too, but I have never taken one.
I bought a very jingly brass coin belt there. It looks hot and makes a lot of noise when I shimmy, so I'm a happy girl.
The rest of the store is cute as well. There are some interesting handmade jewelery items, and other nic-nacky type things.
But what I really love is that Roots is right next door. Bellydance shopping + good Vegan food = happy Drea. -

You can't invoke Ocean Beach without invoking the word "hippie." I know, I know, I'm perpetuating a stereotype, but come on. Ocean Beach is crawling with hippies and the stores lining Newport Avenue have responded. Where there's demand, there will be supply.
Rock Paper Scissors is one of those hippie suppliers, but it's more of a World Market than it is a straight-up hippie den. They've got goods from Africa, Asia and jewelry from around the world.
The best thing about RPS is the tiny gelato store tucked in the corner. Man, do I love gelato. -

I ran into this place on my brief trip to San Diego. Newport Ave was the coolest street, it reminded me of Hawthorne St in Portland, OR, especially since it was a Wednesday and the Farmer's Market was up and running. I wouldn't really call it a Farmer's Market, though, more of an "Open Market" as there weren't a whole lot of farmers present but instead an interesting collection of local businesses.
RPS is definitely a world market type as Kinsee said. They have amazing things (to look at, at least, maybe even buy) from all over the world, a lot of free trade stuff as well. They also had a dance class going on in a back room with beautiful decor.
Also, the gelato place next to it is AWESOME. They use biodegradable cups made out of corn starch to serve their delectable treats. A++ for them, though I can't recall their name at the moment. -

I love going in this store, even if its just to look around. There is so much to check out. Lots of variety! Oooh, shiny...sparkly...all the colors...oooh....
The staff was super helpful when I was trying to do some Christmas shopping while on crutches. They are always very knowledgeable when it comes to what's in their store, and very helpful when it comes to finding that perfect gift for someone. -

They carry my very favorite accessory item...wood rings! There is so much to do and see here. Different artisans working their crafts and selling them through the store, such a good idea! The variety here is superb. I can find a gift for almost everyone I know in here. Every time I go into get another ring, I always get transfixed by the pretty sparkle extravaganza display of jewelry, belly dance accessories, lights, ohhhh, shiny! I am like a magpie, anything colored glass, sparkles, or shiny and I'm sold.

Definitely worth a peek if you are gift shopping! Quite a variety of items from around the world... Not a place to find a bargain, but most items seem reasonable priced. Enjoyable, comfortable atmosphere and the staff was friendly. I hate when you walk into a store and feel as if you are being watched: none of that here! A lot of the items for sale can also be found at the OB Farmer's Market, though I cannot comment on the price differences if any. All in all, an enjoyable place to shop! There is even a dance studio in the back!

Uh, oh, the sad economy has struck RPS. It is closing its doors. I find it sad because they had a lot of fun things in here.

I wandered in here by accident and didn't walk out for an hour. There are so many decorative arts and crafts knick knacks for your window shopping pleasure: little paintings, handmade jewelry, candle holders, etc. It's all the cool stuff you'd find at a street fair, but in a permanent set up. Go when you're not looking for anything in particular, I'm sure you'll come across something unique and nifty.

I love this place! My boyfriend and I stayed in here for about an hour. Some of the best accessories from all over! Drop by, there's also art, clothing, home decor... and an eatery over in the left corner. So much to shop, we're definitely coming back again (:
