I came here after watching a hockey game at the Staples Center. Place is really comfy and the decor is really homy and comforting. Warm colors, wood paneling, i liked.
I ordered the grilled Mahi Mahi, with grilled vegetables and sweet potato fries. All I can say, is mmmm.. Mahi Mahi was grilled to perfection. Not overdone where its dry. The grilled veggies were excellent, and consisted of mushrooms, red onions, squash, and bell peppers. The sweet potato fries were mmm, delicous.
Also as an appetizer, we tried there crab cakes, which were really good as well.
My friend had the seafood jambalaya. Oh, man, the taste was extraordinary. If I ever go back, Ill be sure to get that.
Bar area was nice, and they had some pretty good lookin' shirts for sale.
I would definitely go back if Im ever in the area.
We came here for an early dinner before the SC/Ucla game. A number of other SC fans had the same idea. It was interesting there were no Bruins there - probably all at the more budget friendly Pantry down the street. Sorry, I digress.
There were some hits and near misses but overall was very respectable. Our favorite was the oak grilled artichoke. The 'choke was meaty and had a very enjoyable smokey garlic flavor. I had the Kapalua rib-eye, which is teriyaki flavored. I thought the teri-flavor over powered the steak a bit but the meat was very tender, generously portioned but a tad fatty. We also tried the steamers, which is served w/ andoule sausages and adorned with 2 decadent pieces of garlic toast. The broth was flavorful but we could have done without the sausages. Wife had the oak grilled salmon. I had a taste and it seemed pretty pedestrian. The service was attentive and friendly and the price was very reasonable.
This is obviously a popular spot before Staples/LA Live events as the restaurant was nearly filled w/ Kings fans by the time we were checking out.
I came here last night to watch the World Series and get a bite to eat. I sat at the bar and ordered a Navy Grog which is kind of like a Mai Tai but a bit stronger and I ordered the grilled artichoke (my SO ordered the chicken cashew salad).
It was really busy because it was right before the Laker game so they warned me the kitchen was backed up but it really didn't take as long as I was expecting.
I LOVED LOVED LOVED my artichoke. It was garlicky and had a great dipping sauce and I ate half of my SO salad minus the chix (it was huge). It was really a oriental chix salad but was very very yummy.
I use to go to RNF when I lived in the South Bay and they seem to be very similar.
True I haven't had the seafood yet but some people I met that live down here said that it is very good.
Just a warning. If you plan to come here look at Staples Center schedule because if there is a big venue the place will be packed.
I've read mixed reviews about this place and thought I should just try it myself. Prior to coming to the restaurant, I already checked out the menus on-line to see if something catches my eye. We were already running late and might have called the restaurant twice to make sure they don't give our tables away. As soon as we walked in to the restaurant, we were greeted with friendly hostesses and seated immediately. Our server arrived promptly to our table & welcomed us with a smile.
While everyone was looking at the menus [since i already looked on-line] I was already checking the place out. It reminded me of an old victorian style only with a touch of modern contemporary furnish. This place is definitely perfect for business meetings, casual and dating scene even.
Anyway, going back to the food quality and the whole nine yards. My friend had ordered fresh shucked oysters and alaskan king crab legs, absolutely delish! I had mahi mahi with spinach and rice and it surely did fill me up. I'll have to say, even though I didn't have much of the Cioppino which my other friend had ordered - it's definitely something I would go back and order for myself next time. Perfect for winter or rainy days.
If you're ever in dtown LA, make sure you order San Francisco Style Cioppino. the order comes in a large cast iron pot, with clams, fresh fish, and shrimp simmered in a broth of vegetables, tomatoes, and herbs. The best part is, it's garnished with a King crab leg and garlic cheese toast..just enough to satisfy your carb fix!
Standard sea food place at LA live prices.
(Shortest, most concise review by me so far)
I seen da show w/travis barker
Rockstar mentality
I'm jumpin in the crowd
Just to see if they would carry me...to ROCK N FISH! - Shop Boyz (Party like a rock star)
Dang I made reservations at this place and boy was it necessary...NOT! Haha its not like this plaza has any other seafood restaurant, its so weird. Even with the area around here you would imagine it being more filled but i guess that's not the case here. We had the rock 'n crabcakes which was pretty average (i had more fun eating the vegetables) and the seafood jambalaya which was pretty good actually (not super spicy like they said but thats good cuz i was still able to enjoy it). Pretty dark quiet atmosphere with a full bar service. Service was good - nothing to complain about here in regards to that. I don't know, price/value wise the food doesn't measure up, even knowing the the prices are hiked up given the area.
Food: 3 stars --- Atmosphere: 2.5 stars --- Service: 4.5 stars --- Price(value): 2 stars
went here for lunch with family. this is located at LA Live/Nokia Center. i was surprised there weren't more people here for lunch.
i ordered the seared ahi tuna and was not very impressed with the preparation and taste. the description in the menu sounded much more appetizing. additionally, the soups that were ordered were all luke warm and needed to be heated again ... surprising considering there weren't many other customers to keep the food waiting.
some dishes do have both lunch servings and dinner servings. the dinner servings are larger and cost a bit more.
needless to say, this is not high on my "go to" list..
Rock'n? No.
This is like a fancy Cheesecake Factory, but more expensive.
Artichoke - soggy. Better at the Newsroom
Ceasar Salad (fork and knife) - ok. Hard to screw this one up.
Crab Cake Sandwich (they usually don't serve sandwiches or half salads after 4:30pm) - was average.
Filet Mignon - totally tasteless cut of meat. No seasoning, nothing special about it. We used a half bottle of Worcestershire trying to get the meat down.
Sauteed Spinach - absolutely no flavor - at all.
Sweet potato fries - lackluster. Nothing special there.
Overall, I would say that if you like bland chain restaurant food, it's for you. If you have a taste bud in your mouth, skip it and go somewhere else (Trader Vic's, Yard House, The Farm.... even ESPN zone....)
Total waste of calories.
While my experience with Rock N Fish has been based on "dranks" and apps before concerts, I feel like it's a decent spot before you head into Staples or Nokia and The Yard House is too busy.
Normally, I would give it 3 stars because the service can be really slow when they get busy and the food is just ok, but with the location, it's just so extreme because it gets freakin packed! When you get a rush of people like they do before the Britney concert (when I went), it's going to be really tough to manage when you already have the dinner crowd in there. However, I'm adding one star because I definitely left my credit card there and they got it for me and didn't charge me any kind of silly "holding fees" for collecting it when I came by the next day.
So thank you, Rock N Fish staff for grabbing my credit card on the only time I've ever forgotten it somewhere! If I knew all places would be so nice and honest about this, I would leave my card in more places.
After hitting the Grammy Museum on Saturday, we took a walk around the corner and were instanly hit by the smell of delicious seafood. We got a table on the patio and had a perfect view to people watch while we ate a FANTASTIC meal! We had the Salmon on Pasta with Pesto sauce. AND.....The martinis were perfect! We can't wait to try other dishes on the menu!
Torn between readers who want stories about national topics and those who want to know what's going on in the very happening Downtown LA always presents a conundrum for this writer. Balance being the key to most things in life and the fact that I've been desirous of writing about Rock 'N Fish LA Live for a long time now--this one is for my people in my hometown The City of Angels. And for those readers abroad, you're going to come to Los Angeles one day, so make a note: eat at Rock 'N Fish LA live, you're going to like it.
For the ultra faithful it could tickle your AEG bone that I'm writing about a dining establishment in the heart of LA Live given our stormy relationship, but this place is too good to throw out with the bathwater. And given that I've taken to eating at Rock 'N Fish several days a week I wouldn't want a Stan sighting to send the observer of such into shock. I should mention here that while most of the restaurants at LA Live are big corporate owned entities, Rock 'N Fish is one of a chain of two, the original being a beach legend down in the South Bay.
So of all the restaurants in all of the places that I travel...It all started months ago when I ran into Eric / manager of Rock 'N Fish...I'm leaving out the part about the hot publicist, but the story really begins with me sitting on the very nice patio, one of the best in Downtown, listening to some great rock 'n roll, thus the name Rock 'N Fish, and eating almost everything on the menu--not one thing that I wouldn't order again. But before talking about the food I have to digress for a moment and say that Rock 'N Fish LA Live is about more than food, Rock 'N Fish LA Live is about community. All of LA Live combined has not made an effort equal to that of Rock 'N Fish to be part of what's going on Downtown and downtownster is all about supporting those that support us.
The food: Rock 'N Fish much like another favorite restaurant of mine, Bottega Louie, delivers on three fronts. First, the food is good. Second, the food is a great value for what you get. Third, the atmosphere is excellent. And in the case of Rock 'N Fish the serving sizes aren't just adequate--they're large!!! So far so good--here's the twist that got me at hello, almost every dish prepared at Rock 'N Fish is prepared over an oak grill. Not to be confused with some oak chips thrown over some lava rock--REAL OAK GRILL. This is almost impossible to find anywhere in the city let alone in an upscale restaurant. Why? Because it takes a lot of room to store wood by the cord and it takes even more work to keep it burning just right to cook on consistently. And then there is the added cost of ventilation to accommodate such an effort. Hats off for making this effort...
Back to Eric and the table full of food. Start with a Navy Grog, it's the house drink. They have a huge bar, but when in the Navy drink what the Navy Grogs drink--or not, but I did. You must, must, must get the oak grilled artichoke; it is the best take on this dish anywhere, period. If you have room for another appetizer the spicy tuna roll is better than most sushi restaurants and although I have not tried the crispy calamari my friends have all told me that it rocks, pun intended. When contemplating your main course, the fish is all brought in fresh daily and again this is where the oak grilling really shines. I've never had a better ahi tuna--I recommend it rare and if you're doing lunch the salmon sandwich has no rival anywhere in the city. If you prefer a lighter flakey fish the halibut is served both gilled and blackened...Blackened is always tempting, but again it's a crime to do anything that diminishes the oak flavor, so grilled and rare. Sides, get the mac 'n cheese and it's a tossup between the sautéed spinach and grilled vegetables.
Mac 'n cheese moment. The mac 'n cheese at Rock 'N Fish is spiced up with some cayenne pepper, which rocks! I take mac seriously and only Pete's Café and Nickel Diner can compete with this tasty concoction.
Note: for land-lubbers Rock 'N Fish has a serious selection of meat--don't be fooled by the name of the place. I famously don't eat meat, but like the calamari, my friends more than vouch for it.
And then there is fish 'n chips. In a previous hunt for some good fish 'n chips I derided the poor excuse for such a delicacy served up at both Chaya and Fleming's. The only slack I cut these two restaurants was that high expectations were not merited given neither establishment claimed fish as a specialty. Well how about a fish restaurant that specializes in oak grilling fish? It turns out Rock 'N Fish can bring home the fish and fry it up too. I wouldn't suggest this dish on the first visit as it's not a signature, but when the need for some good old comfort food is strong--place your order and enjoy!
It's been a while since I went to town on a local restaurant review, and although this one put a few pound on me, I'm glad that I did.
Eleven of my bestest buddies and I met at Rock N Fish this eve to celebrate the homecoming of our nearest and dearest friend!
It was a gorgeous evening to sit outside, and so we did! I cannot comment on the interior decor, I never saw it. The courtyard views of the tweens and 20 somethings who were going to see the Jonas Brothers made for great fodder! Seriously, we are children of the 80's, and many of the "outfits" we saw were the same things we wore in 9th grade! We did it first and we did it better, bitches!
Aaaaanyway...I will bottom-line this review by saying that everyone was really happy with their orders! Considering the size of our party, the service was very good.
We staggered in 2 by 2 for over an hour. Some ordered appetizers, others went straight to entrees. We had a couple fish haters with us, but there was plenty on the menu to satisfy every palate. Our dinners ranged from the rib-eye to the tri-tip, the crabcakes, chicken cashew salad, jambalaya...we all enjoyed our meals and on accounta we are sharers, sampled a taste of everyone else's!
One big disappointment was the fact that they don't serve their sandwiches past 4:30pm. Huh? Wha? It's the same components as the main courses...oh...okay. I get it. Charge the "dinner crowd" more. Gotcha.
It was a great meal shared between great friends! I am sure we will be back!
Very, Very Happy... The ambiance was great, it was nice and clean, and most importantly, the food was scrumptious.
We went last night after I got out of work. I found it on http://OpenTable.com. It was close to work, and I've been dying for good seafood.
Happy Hour is from 3-6 PM. They had a $2 off drafts, $5 off certain wines, well drinks, and $5 off selected appetizer specials.
We sat at the bar, ordered a Pear Cider Ale and a Long Board. Very tasty. I couldn't resist the dozen oysters on a half shell. So crisp, light and clean. I asked Kevin the bartender where they buy their fish from. He said to my delight, "Santa Monica Fish Co." I knew dinner was going to be enjoyable. Next we had the crab cakes. They were 2 lightly breaded Louisiana crab cakes served with spicy rémoulade and tartar sauce. For dinner my husband had the beer battered fish and chips. Honestly, you couldn't tell the fish was cod. It was firm, and savory. I had the Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi. It came with this delightful pineapple beurre blanc.
We were pressed for time and didn't get to stay for dessert. Our total bill was approx $85. They validated our parking for us, so that was nice. I would love to come back again for happy hour and just drink beers and eat appetizers.
Cheers!
Rock'N Fish was not Rock'N for me.
My buddy went with the 1.5 pds of Crab legs and I went with the Crab Louie salad.
My salad was wilted and doused with dressing (I think in an attempt to hide the week old lettuce). Any salad should be crisp, given the prices here, the salad should be Rock'N crisp.....not even close. Couple this with the weak portion of crab and I really felt this was a poor attempt at trying to be an upscale restaurant.
My buddy said his crab was "OK".
I know average food when I eat it, my experience here was less then average.
OK so after browsing the reviews before going, I'll admit I was a tad bit leery about coming here to dine, but I trusted my dining companion's judgement so off we were! Plus I'd been wanting to go to "LA Live" for a long time now considering I've lived in downtown since Sept. and had yet to go...
First off, I liked the ambiance, it was pleasant. Our table was nice and spacious. Our waiter was cordial with a pinch of sass: better than boring!
And I know it's going to sound a little interesting but my next stop was the bathroom as I like to wash my hands before eating. Though the sign indicating the ladies' room as "she-shells" was cute, the bathroom itself was a bit annoying due to the lack of paper towels and an automated soap dispenser but manual faucet--am I the only one that seems weird to? The dyson hand-dryer thingy was kinda cool though.
Next, the bread is some amazing hot crusty deliciousness...I haven't received bread that hot, fresh and yummy in a long time, really!!
As for dinner, I ordered the shrimp and garlic brochettes with grilled vegetables (kebobs!!) and mashed potatoes as my sides. I also had a passion iced tea which came in a HUGE glass. My dining companion got the gumbo--hold the rice--and a side of sauteed spinach.
My brochettes had plenty of nice plump oak-smokey shrimp. The mashed potatoes were decent and the kebobs were mostly good except for some bitter squash or zucchini, couldn't tell which but after that bite I didn't eat more of them. The grilled veggie kebobs also had red onion, whole mushrooms, and red bell pepper...pretty yummy except for that aforementioned bitter part!
As for the gumbo, not my bag but my dining companion sure enjoyed it... in fact, I think he referred to it as "spicy goodness"! He also said it reminded him a little bit of the awesome food in New Orleans. He also seemed to enjoy my food, particularly the potatoes. I, however, don't much like spicy food and not sure what an authentic gumbo is supposed to taste like (but I did remember they have a roux as a base--thank you Top Chef!!), so I can't really rate it. The spinach was so-so, kind of under-seasoned for my tastes.
Because my food was yummy, the bread was AWESOME and the ambiance pretty cool, I'm giving it 4 stars--even in the face of such not-so-great reviews. Try the shrimp brochettes, y'all!
The food was overpriced and not all that great. But what lost them an extra star was that my friend wanted a side of chicken strips. The only chicken strips that they had were on the children's menu, but that's not usually a problem. When it comes down to it, either you sell some chicken strips and make the customer happy, or you don't sell them and make the customer mad. The waitress refused to bring us a side of chicken strips, saying she might get in trouble. We stayed hungry, they lost $6 and I got fussy. We almost asked the family sitting next to us to order them and pass them over, but I was afraid to see the kind of trouble we'd get into for that.
It's an overpriced Hard Rock wannabe with staff that made me fussy. There's 100 restaurants within a block of this place, so try a different one.
I really like their Manhattan Beach location, but this one here at LA Live just doesn't feel right. It was pretty empty during the week, which is a stark contrast to the much busier beachside location.
Drinks: Nice selection of about a dozen beers on tap (though it's dwarfed by the neighboring Yard House), and their 23 oz schooners for $8 is not a bad deal at a nice dinner.
Food: I've always liked their crab cakes, fresh fish specials, and their jambalaya. There is no difference in food quality between the two locations from what I could tell. Also, there's no other real comparable seafood restaurant in the area, so if you're hankering for fish this is the spot. Oak grilled fish is their specialty.
The service is very good. I was thoroughly pleased with how quick, friendly, and attentive they were the whole course of the meal. Also, there's a very pretty blonde server here who is super sweet, if that were something to sway your mind on a restaurant.
Okay, so that just leaves me to talk about the price. I always feel that at Rock N Fish, you end up shelling out a lot of dough for a product that isn't worth it. My visiting friend got a 1/2 pound burger for $13. It's a lot for a burger unless it's up to par with Umami, The Counter, or Father's Office (doubtful).
A dish, appetizer/dessert, and a drink here runs a total of about $40, and I never really was wowed throughout the meal. On my walk back to my building I thought I should have paid less for it, and I NEVER like feeling disappointed after a meal, whatever the reason may be. Lunch prices are discounted, I should add. But since the servings are so big I did get to take half of my dish home, so there's some silver lining. I'll be happy to have some good leftovers to eat instead of top ramen at work tomorrow.
I cannot get excited about this place. The service was impeccable to start off [ it was pregame at Staples]. I got the calamari and the spinach and artichoke starter. The starter combo was strange; the dip was good; it was accompanied by carrots, celery, then the strange part with salsa and chips. Why the salsa and chips - I really have no idea - they do not compliment the dip; the salsa was spicy so it took away from tasting the artichoke at all. Kinda bizarre. I'm concluding the place is a "catchall" for tourists and everyone visiting LA Live. It's going to be interesting who remains as a fixture after a full year at this venue. The service evaporated as about 15 tables were seated by 7.30. Most of the tables appeared occupied by people attending a convention down the street.
LA Live is all around kinda "meh." It's like one big advertisement and corporate sponsorship (who owns a Nokia any more?)...and the Rock N Fish here is not nearly as cute as the original in Manhattan Beach. But I'll tell you what I do like...$5 happy hour cocktails (HH starts at 3!) at a place that can totally get away with selling crap drinks for an arm and a leg.
I had a navy grog which was quite strong, and my fellow American Idolaters found their drinks to be sufficiently strong...and we're all heavy boozers. So cheers to that!
I have been in the Rock n' Fish twice. The first time we sat our booties down, ate lots of oysters and drank decent wine and good beer. This time we came in to sit at the bar, eat oysters, drink wine & beer and watch teh Lakers but the bartender was so overwhelmed he never even said hello to us. I am a patient woman. No worrries. I could wait it out while he did the dishes and helped the servers. Someone clearly called in sick. But as I looked down the very long bar, many many people had empty drinks and plates in front of them which led me to believe he had been and would be overwhelmed for some time. So we bailed.
I will go back again later on in the bball season. I am sure we will get better service and Rock n' Fish will get a better write up.
I've overlooked Rock N Fish a few times in favor of Yardhouse or Flemings (both also yummy LA Live restaurants) but finally decided to have a late lunch here.
The atmosphere is nice and relaxed with seating available out on the patio as well. The host, server and even the manager were very friendly, nice and attentive. We were served hot and fresh bread while we waited for our orders of fish and chips (something they say they're known for). It came out fairly quickly and was delicious. Not overcooked or overly breaded but just right. It was served with a side of fries and the typical cocktail sauce and tartar sauce.
Overall, just a nice and tasty dish in a mellow place. I'll definitely come back to try some of their other dishes.
Went here over the weekend, since a friend was denied entry to Lucky strike. when did a bowling/lounge bar start having a dress code, downtown trying to be all Hollywood. Whack.
Anways, we managed to find ourselves down stairs at Rock n Fish. I got the typical standard Fish and Chips platter and substituted for sweet potato fries. (fathers office has better sweet potato fries) The dinner plate was Ok, their cole slaw was pretty good. Battered Cod was Ok, not crunchy and light enough. Felt it was a bit heavy on the coating. We also ordered calamari it was fairly decent portion size, but got cold quick. Clam Chowder was decent, (had bacon or ham in it) nothing in comparison to Boudin in SF.
It was a pricey dinner, and lacking in pizzaz! very generic place that you can easily run up a tab over 100. The waitress was friendly and nice, and attentive. prob wont be going back unless it's someone's bday.
I ordered the fish and chips and it was okay. The fish was pretty decent but I don't think I would go to this place again. The food is a bit more on the pricey side. If I am paying for that much, I expect higher quality food. I have to say our waiter sucked. He wasn't that attentive to us because he was busy flirting with another waitress. We were trying so hard to get his attention. I was disappointed with the service.
This place was not impressive at all for taste, but you get a good portion for what you pay for. I ordered the spicy shrimp dish and got over ten pieces of large shrimp. I would recommend going to boiling crab or some other place if you want it for taste, but not the ambiance!
On a Sunday afternoon before the Laker game, this place was surprisingly empty. But thats okay, we liked the privacy and ability to be as loud as we wanted.
Although the menu seemed quite limited the Rock'n Crab Cakes with sweet potato fries and spicy Mac 'n Cheese was top notch! The schooners of Guiness are always right spot on as well.
Much better LA live experience than last time at ESPN.
I've been to the Rock n'Fish located in Manhattan Beach several times and although not floored by the food it was solid every visit. This has been quite sometime though and so for a friend's birthday we were invited to the one in DT at LALIVE. The place was very nice looking, but upon closer inspection you could see some parts were hastily put together.
The beers were fairly priced, actually I felt like I had gotten a deal on my twenty-two oz. Double Barrel Ale. That was where my warm and fuzzies ended. The appetizers were average at best. Calamari was of the Mrs. Friday's variety and the sauces were typical, boring. We had artichoke was bland, but I guess that's an artichoke so it was as unimpressive as it would be anywhere else I guess. The crab cakes were good, but small and overpriced, they were also accompanied by the same ole boring dressings.
I ordered a dozen oysters as my entrée and I liked the presentation and their size was typical of cold water pacific coast oysters but not impressive in taste. Kumomotos or Puget Sound not exactly sure what they were but they were a bit more briny and metallic than I like. My better half ordered the Salmon dinner which was way overcooked and there is nothing worse than an overcooked piece of fish, well maybe an old piece of overcooked fish. I would visit a dozen other Downtown restaurants before ever going back to the RNF. But I wouldn't have picked it in the first place.
This is definitely one of those big corporate owned restaurants, which aren't necessarily my favorite. Luckily, my parents were paying.
The artichoke appetizer, that they are famous for, had a delicious sauce and definitely lived up to my expectations.
My macadamia-crusted mahi was pretty good, the grilled vegetable side was bland but the spicy macaroni was delicious.
The place was crowded as hell but that's because it was full of teenage girls in cowboy boots heading to the Taylor Swift concert right after dinner at this LA live concert complex. We ate on the patio, listening to a loud radio announcer interview the crowds of prairie-dress wearing moms and daughters about how much fun they were having. Can you say annoying?
And the women's bathroom only had two stalls! Everyone in line was complaining.
I guess this restaurant would be best either for a night of drinks before going out, or an early lunch or dinner to beat the hectic crowds and loud ambiance (I guess weekends really fill this place up). Or just go grab the artichoke and dip :)
Went there on a Thursday night, during happy hour...needed to kill time prior to an event at the Staples Center. This was totally a random find.
Service - Fast, upbeat & friendly.
Drinks - Being the creature of habit that I am...I went for the lemon drop martini...and it was the one best presented Lemon Drops that I've had thus far...and trust me...I've had "plenty". It came with a sugar encrusted stir-er, so cute...and yummy.
I picked over a few of the appetizers, which were tasty...but I wasn't too hungry...so I didn't dive in too far.
Will I be a repeat customer? Absolutely!
I had lunch at Rock N Fish last weekend after visiting the Team LA store sale with my BFF. We were going to head to Grammy Museum to check out the MJ exhibit after shopping but NEEDED sustenance first...so we headed to Rock N Fish on the recommendation of a friend.
It was fairly empty only a dozen or so tables filled so thankfully there was no wait. We were immediately seated and started to peruse the menu.
I decided on the Blackened Halibut. The fish is seasoned with cajun spices, slightly spicy, blackened, tender and flaky. It was accompanied by an avocado aioli which, I thought, was a unique partner, but perfect! The cool creaminess of the aioli played off the slight spiciness from the fish and wasn't too heavy or overly creamy Yum! The dish was served with two sides- I opted for the spicy mac 'n' cheese and sweet potato fries (I'm a such a carb girl!). The mac 'n' cheese was decent and not spicy. I think they bake them individually before serving so the dish was a bit clumped together and a little on the dry side, not the usual ooey, gooey cheesey goodness I've come to appreciate about mac 'n' cheeses. While I was too stuffed to finish the side I probably wouldn't have because as I ate towards the bottom of the ramekin I saw oils collecting (from the cheeses, etc?) and it did not look appetizing. I did however finish off my sweet potato fries- they were crisp, sweet and delicious.
The service was great (our server was fantastic!) prompt, friendly and attentive. We were served our food quickly and checked on regularly. Perhaps if the place was busier it may have been different, but this experience definitely will bring me back. The food and service was good, the prices were great for seafood and the amount served. I'll definitely be back!
Seafood + Huge portions + $$$ - Flavor = ROCK'NFISH
(Sweet potato fries exempt from equation above.)
Late lunch here with the co-workers during a convention. Place was empty on a Sunday afternoon at LA Live so we were seated right away. Great waiter. Good food - I had the crab cakes with 2 sides, I chose the coleslaw, which was very good (being the coleslaw snob I am) and spicy mac n cheese. Had a schooner of cold beer and wine selection by the bottle was very good. Deserts didn't thrill me. Prices typical of DT & LA Live area. Beautiful, warm feeling restaurant. Bathroom has the cool Dyson hand dryers! Everyone with me was pleased with their food.
i've had better seafood. the spinach artichoke dip sucked. the side of rice for the main dish sucked too, because it was white sticky rice. the garlic mashed potatoes weren't good, either. the fish was great, though. i guess that's what's most important in a seafood restaurant.
the prices are a bit high. my main course was $25. add parking to that ($7-$20) depending on how far your park, and your quick dinner could end up costing a lot.
Never eaten here before, but visiting my daughter who lives around the corner within walking distance. It was a quiet Saturday evening, no events going on, so it was low key and nice to walk around LA Live. And the restaurant wasn't too busy.
Our service was quick and our food was really delicious. Probably the best fish n' chips I've had in ages. The cod was moist and flaky just perfectly cooked. And the fries hot and salty with alittle potato skin on them.....mmmmm. Of course it was way too much to eat for me....but oh soooo fabulous. My daughter had a huge salad with grilled salmon, and her boyfriend had crab cakes that I tried (wonderful) all fresh and cooked perfect.
And then we did a volcano cake with vanilla cream for dessert shared three ways.....check out my pics. A great meal, I'd go back for the fish n' chips definitely.
Oh extra note: Awesome Dyson automatic hand dryers in the bathroom...wowwiewow...these babies dry your hands in record speed, it was worth a trip to the bathroom just to wash one's hands to check it out! Ok I'm not weird, just never seem them before....:-)
Pssst, the food is average and the decor is well if you forget to iron anything you will be fine, lol. The secret here is the Stick Toffee Pudding, it is divine and naughty, got to have it!
Well, where should I start. We thought we would enjoy a nice evening out and have a great meal. This place was recommended by a friend, so we decided to give it a shot. We did not make reservations, but when we got there, we were told the wait was approximately 45 minutes. At that time, the hostess handed us a pager and asked for my driver's license, which in turn I handed it to her. After waiting for an hour at the bar, spending $53.00 for two drinks and Rock'n crab, I went up front to check if the pager was working. At that time, I was handed my driver's license and said "is this you?" The driver's license had a picture of an African American male. By the way, I am as white as can be with gray hair and glasses. I was told that they had given my license to someone else without even looking at the pictures. This was the first time that I have had to hand my license in order to get a pager and wait to be called. So how do you think my dinner went? Oh, I don't know. After spending 30 minutes discussing the situation with the manager, another 30 minutes at the police station filing a report, we went home starving and disaapointed with the management. Even though the manager was very apologetic, no offers were made to reimburse or offer us anything in return, not that I was asking for it. If management is reading this, I think your policy of handing license for a pager is ridiculous. Sorry, can't review the food since we lost our appetite after the incident and did not eat.
great aoili with the roasted artichoke, crab cocktail was fresh, mac n cheese was good
service is the fault of the 3 star rating
we ordered sweet potato fries and it took forever - they ran out and gave us the last 15 pieces of it while we waited for the rest to cook
by then it was too late - we already finished our meal
however, they did give us a cimplimentary dessert which was really good! get the kona pie!!
location and atmostphere was boring
then again we did come here on a sunday afternoon...
DINERS BEWARE!!!!
This restaurant only opened a few days ago- but they surely have problems they BETTER fix ASAP or it' going to end up being shut down by the Department of Health. The waitress was very friendly so they earned one star for her service. It all went down hill from there. I ordered an appetizer of smoked Artichoke which was yummy. I ate one- and was about to pick up my unused knife when I noticed that there were TWO MOUSE DROPPINGS on the handle of my knife. Seriously.
I almost threw up right then and there... I would have left, but I was out with my bf's mom who was in town for a conference, and didn't want to make a scene. The food took FOREVER to come (and the restaurant was pretty empty). When my food finally arrived and my waitress came around to ask how everything was, I politely showed her the mouse droppings on my knife. She quickly denied it, and said that it was "smoke from the arichokes" but I knew better- how do you ask? Because I'm from New York City- I've seen a lot of mouse droppings in my life time- thats how. Now I'm no expert, but I'm a city girl, and I know what I'm talking about Brah!!!
Everyone continued to eat the meal, and they said it was just okay. I nibbled my food here and there, because I was starving. The Clam Chowder was too thick, the Crab Cakes were just okay, and the Halibut was waaaay overcooked. I wouldn't come here again. I'd rather have the All You Can Eat Soup and Salad combo at Olive Garden!!!
The manager came out and tried to use the same excuse- but keep in mind that I had not used my knife, and it was wrapped in the napkin, so the mouse droppings were obviously there BEFORE i received my entree. Although he didn't have to- he comped the appetizer, but it still wasn't enough. I will tell this story to everyone I know- and I will NEVER return here.
I understand that restaurants have problems sometimes, but to have a mouse problem when you've only been open a few days is ABSURD and a health hazard. This place should get a C rating-
DISGUSTING.
Stay AWAY!!!!! You've been warned.
I went back for dinner before a Lakers game and got the Shrimp and Crab Louie salad. It's huge! The fish and chips were also yummy. Very moist and flaky on the inside, crispy on the outside, deep-fried to a golden brown perfection.

I'd like to start by saying how awesome it is to see many of my favorite restaurants in one place,… Read more »
First of all I would like to say that this place was a good place to eat. However, the parking is expensive ($20 and $15 with validation) since the restaurant is located at L.A. Live. Nice ambiance and a pretty nice bar area.
I went on a Friday night with a large party, and they seated us right away at a banquet table. Pretty impressive since it was after work on a Friday night! The waiter (Darryl) immediately came to our table to introduce himself and get us drinks. He was very friendly and checked on our table frequently. I always recommend a restaurant with great service, so you will definitely want to check it out.
We began with appetizers, which were ok, but nothing special. We ordered the fried calamari, artichokes and spinach dip with chips. The appetizers will run you between $12 and $15.
We also ordered drinks. I got the french vanilla martini and a mojito. Both of which were very good.
The good thing is that this restaurant serves huge portions when it comes to entree's, and most come with 2 sides. The average entree will run you about $30. I ordered the king crab legs with sides of sauteed spinach and spicy macaroni and cheese. I can certainly overlook the fact that by the end of the night my hands were dyed blue from the crab legs, but they were fabulous!! The sauteed spinach was...ok...but the spicy macaroni was the best I have ever had. That would be the only reason I would eat at this spot again. Usually you can only find fantastic macaroni at good soul food restaurants, but I have to say, I was pretty impressed.
Most of my party ordered steaks and ribs. Everyone was really enjoying their meals, so I would definitely give this spot a thumbs up!!
Again, I can't stress just how good the spicy macaroni is...melt in your mouth...YUMMMMM!!! If your in the area, make sure and try it!
Bonne Appetit!
I was happy with what I ordered as well as my friends. We had to eat quick and the service was awesome! i did notice they had some great happy hour menu which I hope to try soon!
