Rock Hard has a lot going for it. The staff are, without exception, the friendliest and most helpful of any store in the Castro. They are very helpful, have an excellent selection of both vids and toys - and certainly have the best lube prices, anywhere! I'm a regular shopper and very happy with them.

Went in on a Monday, mid day looking like hell, asking for a specialty item. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful. They made sure I knew what I was doing with potentially dangerous equipment and gave me good resources for safety information. Prices were reasonable.

My friend works here so I must confess my bias.... plus "I'm visiting my friend" is a good excuse to go into such a "naughty" place.
Rock Hard has the usual toys, videos, and devices you would expect from such an establishment (so I am told) but it also has something else: great customer service! The sales people are ever eager to help you find just the right items (and will cheerfully describe all the naaaasty ways you can enjoy such items).
RH also has great sunglasses, wallets, bags, calendars, and other fun gifts! So you can pretend that is the only reason you came in....
After my visit I left with a plain brown bag stuffed with all sorts of goodies!!! Now, if I can only figure out what to DO with it all.... Go to Rock Hard and have FUN! -

I don't frequent adult stores much, but Rock Hard is my store of choice. Hands down.
Joe who works there is one of the friendliest, most approachable person I've ever met. I brought my friend here, who had never been to an adult store before and Joe very patiently and genuinely answered all the questions one might have on their first trip to this kind of store. My friend also noticed a bracelet that he liked, but it was priced a little bit out of his range. Joe offered him a discount, but he still had to think about it.
On a subsequent visit (maybe a month?), Joe remembered both our names and the bracelet that my friend wanted. We were there for my friends birthday and he straight up gave my friend the bracelet. Who does that?
There are plenty of adult stores in the area, but its the personnel that will keep me coming back to this place.
Oh, and if I'm ever in the market for a 10" dildo with an adjustable fist attachment, I know where I'm going! -

I took a friend here and as with all items of consumtpion, shop around in terms of pricing (videos, prophylactics, toys, table top items for conversation starters, you get the picture). This store had an item that was $4 cheaper than the competing store down the block, hence our return.
In addition, I have no problem perusing and pointing out specific items to my rather naive friend but a good variety of prophylactics. It was made even better when a couple of guys chimed in with their recommendations and we ended up laughing over some of the larger items of butt fun.
The counter help is pleasant and leave you to your own devices, all good when I'm flipping over videos and thinking, OMFG (^_^)
I also recommend this place as a friendly establishment in providing the community with methods of safe sex practices and to my rather more conservative friend, an eye opener in some regards.Listed in: Smart List

Very nice staff, adequate leather goods and toys. This is another place I like to browse and see if I'm shocked at what I discover.
Our friend found a great leather belt and I have to hand it to them that their belt selection is nice.

I walked into the store and saw one sales person on the phone and the other looking off into space oblivious to who just walked in. I said hi to them and they just stared blankly back at me. The same thing happened when I said bye upon leaving. Do they care about selling stuff or do they just want to look like bitches?
And tell me why a jar of Stroke 29 costs 19.99 here but costs only 14.99 at Phantom two doors down? -

Went here with my girlfriend and a mutual friend of ours when said friend was looking for a little something-something to take along on an extended weekend trip to visit his girlfriend.
For what's basically a gay porn/sex toy shop it was remarkably accepting of our excessive straight-ocity and a lot less intimidating/creepy than the name "ROCK HARD" made it sound. If it wasn't for the plasma TVs in the back showing clips of totally cut military-looking dudes furiously pounding eachother and the incredible selection of cock rings this place could totally pass itself off as a more cramped version of Good Vibrations. -

While Rock Hard does what it does really well, that is sell porn and sex toys and sex ephemera and sexual innuendo t-shirts, it disappoints in that it used to be something very different from what it is now.
When Rock Hard opened it's signage rang true. They actually solicited and sold "erotic art." Emphasis on art. For the most part. Art meaning someone you might actually meet or know made the art. And not just the predictable prints or originals of B&W male nude photography that seems to pass for "gay art" now. But painting and sculpture and what not. Where, oh where, has the erotic art gone?
I'm all for porn and paraphilia accouterments, believe me. And Lord knows we need that stuff in the otherwise homogenized pasteurized and processed Castro. But maybe they might change their sign to read, simply, Rock Hard. The over-sized Titan and Hot House and Raging Stallion posters just inside the plate glass window are "art" enough for this purveyor of porn. -

I walked into Rock Hard wanting to peruse some of their items, but little did I know they had more of what I was looking for than I originally thought. The staff was extremely friendly and offered assistance if I needed any. Although the store is a bit small, they have a wide variety of things from which to choose.
The one sad thing I realized, however, is that my Diesel bracelet looks an awful lot like some of the leather cock rings. I wonder if that was done on purpose.
Anyway, a great selection and great staff. With a wide selection of lube and cock rings, you should be in for a long night. Oh, and if you're wanting to buy some Gear Essentials, they have them here in stock so you can actually see them instead of ordering them from a website. -

This place was the shiznit. SOoooo much fun to browse, crazy fun books, and little trinket accessories. They had tons of (gay) porn, c'mon..it IS the Castro...but there were vibrators/dildos in the back for the ladies as well. The sales guy was totally cool with us laughing, giggling and even showed us a picture of some unnatural horsecock (not really a horse, but some dood with a really long gross schlong) tied up in a friggin' KNOT! WTF?!
on the side wall, tons of lube, of all kinds, paddles, whips, floggers, chains, cuffs, beads, etc. etc. you name it, they probably have it. and def the 1st place i've seen that carries "lube shooter" a cute little syringe lookin' thing...goes perfectly with the GALLON of lube they sell for $94.99!

The store clerks were soooooooooooooooooo nice and all those hot mermen dolls.:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P It's great having such a fun "adult store" in the Castro. All that hot porn about the guys!!!!! I honesty cannot remember which experiences I had here and which ones at Phantom... I bet that is common! It is SO weird that they are almost next door. I would honestly just go back and forth and price check! Usually stuff like this is cheaper online, but they do have a great range of stuff and it is available right away. Bought a "something" here. Saw it at the other adult place a couple spots over, but it was WAY MORE EXPENSIVE. Went back and purchased it at Rock Hard. Staff didn't really greet or say bye or thanks, I just payed and left. Two stars for the lower pricing on the "something" I bought.
