This is a weird place. But then again very nice. You have to do lots of walking around. Not to mention uphill and downhill.
But its worth the visit. You have look out mountain where you can see 7 states on a clear day. (It's not separated like in a map, you basically look in the direction they tell you and take their word of what your seeing) Unless your familiar with the area, it pretty much all looks like the same state.
You have a lot of caves to walk through, with weird decorations of trolls. Very nice water falls and beautiful gardens. There is also a small zoo.
They have a couple of gifts shops right at the entrance. But I would suggested to hit them on the way out, unless you want to carry an extra bag or run all the way back to your car.
One more thing, it gets really hot and humid here in the summer.
So much beauty. So much green. Sooooooooo much uber creepiness! (fairyland caverns) check out the pics. It might be the weirdest place on earth!
Free parking. Wonderful mountainside drive. See 7 states from one spot. Swinging bridge. 2 hours well spent!
The view is beautiful, the walk through is also pretty but once you ask questions (which I am always prone to do) about the waterfalls then you find out that the source of the majestic falls are pumps. The water gets pumped in. But because I like Chattanooga, I won't be mad. Do what you have to do to entice the people. I'll support you; the economy's bad and your folks need jobs. I'll buy it. Please they have white deer. That's a plus.
Wow!
This place is just amazing, as soon as we got among all of those huge boulders and rocks it felt like we were in a Costa Rican rain forest - it was truly breathtaking. Really enjoyed the suspension bridge and our 3 year old had to play Indiana Jones half a dozen times running across it.
Lover's Leap is a great place to stop for lunch or to enjoy the view; it does go a bit downhill from there. The "Fairyland" exhibit can probably be skipped. The exhibits looks like the are from the 1950s and the carpet in them has been there at least that long and mildewed in the "cave" they are in.
It is so creepy down there you would not be surprised if you came along a little cave with Buffalo Bill breeding Death-heads Moths. The Mother Goose exhibit is creepy as well.
Great place, skip Fairyland and you will have a great time. Nice to do after exploring the depths down the mountain at Ruby Falls.

WOW, all I can say is WOW! This place is gorgeous, definitely not what I had expected. An Annual Membership is a must for any local, and when the flowers are in bloom, March-May the City comes to life with colors beyond belief. This place is not for the fatties(no offense), some walkways are less than 2ft wide. Even my tiny self was walking sideways through them. I highly recommend a camera, and a full day here. So much beauty, so natural!
Rock City Gardens have a fascinating history: http://en.wikipedia.or.... You've probably seen the barn roof ads if you've ever driven through rural areas of the United States at any point in your life.
The outdoor gardens and trails are stunning, and the kid-friendly cave portions of the garden hike--Mother Goose, fairy tale displays--are pretty cool as well. Staring down from Lover's Leap, the sight will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Set in a beautiful location with vast views off the eastern rim of Lookout Mountain, the very cool rock formations are terribly marred by the relentlessly cheesy displays of fairytale figures, annoying music blaring from poorly-hidden speakers, and fakey installations like the artificial climbing wall (amidst great natural walls!) and a fake waterfall. Most appropriate for children ages 2-7, but far too costly. Those wanting to appreciate the beauty of Lookout Mountain are better off visiting Point Park at the north end.
This was just as magical at 40 as it was when I was a kid (went a couple of times and then in my teens on a class trip too.) Ok, yes hokey, but in a really good way. My daughter, 5 now, loved it. We went at Christmas actually and it was not crowded in the daytime (schools were still in session) and then back at night when it was lit. It was crowded then but not bad at all. There were activities for the kids and the lights were great. This is Americana at its best.
See Rock City!!! I love this place! I have been here twice and would go back again and again. There is so much to see here. There is no other place like this anywhere. Walking through a maze of enormous rock formations and gardens is breath taking to say the least. There are great picture opts and beautiful scenery. When you reach the top - your heart will stop as you take in the beauty and richness of everything around you. The end of the maze is kind of hokey - but cute if you have small children. Don't plan on going if your obese - seriously, some of those rock formation crevices are quite narrow. Sorry fat people! So follow the signs to Rock City off the highway - it's really worth it!
