It really is a shame this place is located in Baltimore. Not because Baltimore isn't a cool city, but because I don't live in Baltimore. On the other hand, it's probably for the best: if Rock Candy were any closer to my home, I would practically live there. As it is, I will drive all the way up to Baltimore just to hang out at Rock Candy (no, seriously). The candy selection is outstanding. Bacon chocolate bars, banana coconut white chocolate cluster things, a whole wall of bulk candy, salted peanut butter bon bons. Literally every shelf of every display has something truly exciting to try. Then there's the concession room, which is stocked with the usual candy bar selection (all good). Occasionally, this little room is also stocked with a group of small children playing with toys all over the floor. Then there's the movie theater. This is where Rock Candy makes the leap from "hey, if I'm ever in Baltimore, I'm going to that candy place" to "hey, I'm calling out of work today and driving up to Baltimore to spend six hours in the candy store."
The theater only sits about 20-25 people. They have a DVD projector hanging from the ceiling, and every time I've popped my head in they've been showing some cool thing or another. The last two times I was up, one of the owners was jamming out on Rock Band on the big screen. (Can you feel it? You feel it making the leap. You're starting to plan it into your weekend right now.) I jumped on the guitar and he hit the drums, and for the next 30 minutes or so, we jammed out on Weezer and Radiohead tunes. I even have a create-a-band.
I'm not kidding when I say this place has it all, and I'd be there every weekend, if not every day, if it were a bit closer to home. For me, it's worth a trip p to Baltimore just to stop in. And if you do go, don't be shy. The people that run the place are pretty friendly. If you want to jam out, I say just ask 'em. The dude asked me, so it's obvious they want you to stay and play.

This is, hands down, the coolest place in the entire Mid-Atlantic region. There's always great music playing; the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and warm; the candy selection is mind-blowing. Check out the front room for most of the amazing candy options, but the concession room features some mainstream stuff like Reece's Peanut Butter cups and so forth. Why is there a concession room? Because there's a freaking movie theater in the back. Where they'll occasionally hook up some video games on the FREAKING MOVIE THEATER SCREEN. If this doesn't sound like the coolest damn thing in the whole world, it's because you aren't alive. That's really all there is to it. If you're anywhere near Baltimore, you owe it to yourself to check this place out, just so that in ten years when this place is a friggin' legendary institution of the Eastern Seaboard, you can say you went there back when they first opened and everyone will be all, "Holy crap, you must be the coolest person I know."
Go there. Go there soon.
