Love this place.  Dawn is great.

The Spatzle was perfect.  I love the spatzle with the onions and tomatoes.

Sportscars... park to the lot just to the side.  Easier on the low bodywork. :)

Along Route 66, which my mom and I were both excited to take from Missouri to Texas.  The folks at the welcome center insisted that we stop here, we had decent food but in a great environment!  It was a highlight of the trip to be surrounded by some much memorabilia on the walls.  Disney and Pixar (as one of the cars in the movie Cars was named after the owner of this place).  The waitress was new and did screw up my mom's order, but we're carefree, and the bill got fixed accordingly at the end of the meal.  Would go again if we were traveling with someone else, but if we end up on 66 again, I'll want to try a different place along the trail for some food.

My opinion is based on what I actually thought, even though I know Dawn, the owner personally and have since grade school.
I had the two-egg breakfast and it was excellent. Cooked exactly the way I wanted..crisp bacon, over medium eggs, with hashbrowns and toast.
Service is excellent but even Dawn admitted it becomes a longer wait when they are packed, and most time, they are EXTREMELY packed! Go for the history, and go for the meal. It's easy to find in Stroud and well-worth the trip!
    Thanks Dawn!

A must eat at place. I'm sure if you live in Stroud then there is no need to tell you the food is great, in a small town word gets around.
But if you like me traveling route 66, this is a must stop. Great service, great food, and I had a great time there as well. The owner even came out to greet us sence we drove so far and turned us on to some other local treasures. Who knew OK made wine? I wish i had a place like this near home. I ordered the Germen dish off the dinner menu. "Jagerschnitzel " yum yum! If you like chicken fried steak you'll love this breaded pork cutlet covered in a brown gravy and a dumpling side. By the way this place was featured on DDD with Guy Fieri. I have been to many on this show and this was on top of my list for food and staff. Well done Dawn.

There's not much else going on in Stroud, but at least there's some good food.

The Rock Cafe is just a small dining room, and the service is primarily locals, but there's some serious cooking chops in the kitchen, and that was even evident in the simple breakfast I ordered - a ham and cheese crepe with hashbrowns and a side of bacon. Though the dishes are not complex, the refinement with which each item was prepared is what impressed me - the hashbrowns had a crispy exterior and soft interior, the bacon had a premium fat distribution and was cooked with a weight on top so the strips would be perfectly flat, and the buttery crepe worked well with the cheddar cheese and ham. Complicated food is not necessarily better food, and Rock Cafe proves this well.

At first glance, it seems like your everyday divey diner, but the food was a step above regular greasy fare. We stayed in Stroud with the intention of coming here for breakfast, since it comes up on every Route 66 list. We started with coffee, which was a godsend after sleeping in the car the last two nights. Boyfriend ordered a small order of beignets (homemade donuts), which arrived fresh, piping hot, and with a healthy dusting of powdered sugar. They were awesome and even better dunked in my refreshing coffee. A side of fruit jelly or syrup would have spiced them up a bit but  I leave with no regrets.

I had the sausage and cheese crepes which were exactly as described. The sausage was really tasty. It came with hash browns and a thick, fluffy slice of Texas toast that was clearly toasted on the grill. Yum.

Boyfriend confirmed his southwestern omelet was also delicious. The grits were just ok - in my opinion, all grits should be cheesy grits but I'm from Wisconsin.

Our waitress was about 14, which felt just right for this small-town dive.

Outstanding Route 66 Diner with history dating back to 1926.  A newspaper like menu with historic articles is available for 50 cents.  If travelling thru Okla on I-44 take the Stroud exit.

Good service, excellent food, recently expanded dining area.  Try the Schnitzle, best I've tasted since leaving Germany.  Home made onion rings are a great appetizer.

Agree with most of the other reviews here. This is a worth a stop not only for a slice of Route 66 nostalgia but for some really good food. Had a wonderful veggie omelet. Everyone else in our group loved their breakfast as well. The waitress was very friendly and asked us to sign the guest book that included patrons from as far away as France and Denmark. I also loved the fact that there two old coots holding court over cups of coffee like you see in most small-town cafes.

Sorry to say, I was totally underwhelmed with The Rock Cafe. Unless you are driving down Route 66, and happen to be in Stroud, OK, I would scratch this stop from the itinerary. Otherwise stop by for a meal because the food is good--not great.

The food was good, but server seemed disinterested, and the location--other than the historical facts--is a complete mess. Park on dirt, and the building is about 30ftX20ft with maybe seating for 25-30. However, very clean.

I realize the historical aura associated with the Rock Cafe, and appreciate the significance of the continued existence, but it did not live up to my expectations.

I had the chicken fried steak and can recommend it as a choice when you are hungry.

Keep in mind that you are going in for a trip down Route 66. The food is pretty decent if not very good. Have eaten here twice, once before the last fire happened about 2 years ago and just this past week. I have only eaten the Buffalo Burger which was tatsy each time. I little on the high end Burger, Fires and Drink ran around $10.50. The owner is very nice, her persona was the inspiration for 'Sally" in the movie cars. She was able to save some of the memrobila from the movie after the fire. The outside is a rock building and the inside is a decent dining room with local flavor thrown in. This is a sleeply little town with a main street that has seen better days, but at the end is this nice little place for a good meal. The menu has many choices that look very tatsy. Check out the bathrooms if you get a chance! It is well worth a hour out of your time to get off the turnpike and check it out.

What a great little place to eat on Route 66! As far as little diners go, this place is great! Very clean, staff was so nice and welcoming. The food was SOOOO GOOD! There was so much history with this place. The menus were like newspapers. Very cool! The place burned down a year ago and just recently reopened. Its very nice and clean. I thought this place was top notch for small diners!

Can't believe it took me this long to write my review!  We stopped by the Rock Cafe as part of a scouting trip for a group we'll be taking along Route 66 later this year.  My boss is a LONG TIME fan of the place and friend of the owner.  Food was great, service was better, atmosphere is exactly what you'd want it to be.

    Thanks for a great stop!

A real experience...we visit every time we're passing through for the ambiance as much as the food.  Too bad so much of the history was lost in the recent fire.
