5 reviews for Rock Bass Grill
To start off - this is one of the better seafood restaurants in Harrisburg. Sorry to all the locals, but I have not been impressed by the restaurants in Harrisburg save a few. Rock Bass is in the small list of my "soon to be favorites" restaurants of Harrisburg :)
We went there for dinner on a Friday Summer evening - the place was quite full and we were lucky to get a table outside by the water.
Service was good and our waitress was attentive and suggested good stuff off the menu. I always like to know what are the popular dishes in the restaurant and most times I get the standard response "It's all good here". That to me means that either the waiter staff has no clue of the food served or they dont care to find out what's good in the restaurant they work at. i have seen this at attitude at more restaurants than not :(
But Rock Bass was different - our waitress suggested we get Seafood Skins for appetizers and she was right - it did taste good even though it had a bit too much cheese than my liking but I'm not complaining.
We wanted to order Mahi Mahi for main course but they were sold out so we ordered Grouper which was yummy - great seasoning on the fish :)
I had the full lobster which was delicious too.
For sides we had corn on the cob (good), baked potatoes (done just right) and sweet potatoes (bit much of cinnamon for my liking)
The portions are big so we could have skipped appetizers.
Had Key Lime pie for dessert and it was to my liking - real lime and not just chemicals!
Will definitely return...
Although I am not a fan of the decor, the layout of the restaurant is great. The views of Harrisburg are beautiful, especially at night. The food was good and we loved our waitress...Nora. She was knowledgeable but also very friendly and fun.
Dinner was more expensive for the area, $100 for three dinners and a few drinks, but its just the price you pay for the experience...
If this is the place to go for seafood in Harrisburg, we are in serious trouble. I haven't been to a place so renowned for seafood and then actually experienced a third rate atmosphere and food like this before. The restaurant itself looks cheaply done and almost tacky. I would not call this place upscale at all although it seems to be one of the few places to go to "impress" people. The main thing it has going for it is the view of the river.
The food, I can sum up in two words. Bland. Simple. Very little seasoning, very little to it. You get exactly the item you order as if you cooked it yourself. I wouldn't have thought the food I got was restaurant quality at all, let alone pay $15 minimum for an entree. I was pretty hyped to check this place out because of the word of mouth from others and the extensive menu. Unfortunately it seems Harrisburg has few alternatives for seafood so this place gets the default business. Seems like Passage to India syndrome to me.
This place seems like it is trying to recreate the 94th Aerosquadron in College Park, MD but has failed miserably.
Tried the place closer to when it first opened and was quite pleased with the food and service. Prices are a little higher than the neighbors but the food is a big step up from neighboring Duke's and Dockside willies. They don't really have any deck to speak of but they do have large windows with great river views and the interior of the restaurant is pretty nice.
pricey, but good food and a nice atmosphere. great view.
