Since I started having my hair done by Rod, the owner, a legion of friends have become true believers. Maybe for the first year I was a client, I rarely paid full price due to all the refer-a-friend bonuses I received.
You can talk up a restaurant all you want, but people don't really know until they taste for themselves. But with your hair, the pudding, so to speak, is right there on top of your head for every one to see. The fact that so many people I know looked at my hair and ended up there is the best review I can offer.
My wife's hairdresser (Lyle) moved to another place, so I can't in good faith, claim to know anything about this place.

Back when I lived in Kansas City, I got my haircut here by Lyle. So did my roommate. We loved Lyle. She got her hair colored by him as well. I was going through a more natural phase (I have sinced moved to LA, as you might imagine, I've changed).
Roca Salon is in a converted house, and it's very cosy (but spacious). Everyone is really friendly, it's clean, etc. Haircuts with Lyle cost around $40. I gather Roca does a lot more than hair, but that's what I've always had done there.
The salon is really pleasant--a bit on the earthy side, but then, they also do a lot of extensions, so, it's not exactly granola.
Anyway, I strongly recommend Lyle at Roca Salon should you need a KC stylist.
I'm in Kansas City for a few months, and boy was I happy to find Janelle at Roca!! My curls are still adjusting to the weather (and the heater) I can't exactly air dry the way I do I California. =) Anyway, Janelle gave me an excellent cut, trimmed my bangs -- and my frizz is gone. I highly recommend this salon.
I have gone to Roca three times for facials. I am very pleased with the service I have received. My facials we're done professionally and in a very calming manner. The room for the facials is upstairs in the haircutting room so its REALLY NOISY, but thats not the esthetician's fault. I think the management should say something to the stylists while the esthetician's are working... I think its rude... and they're not even talking to clients, they're yelling at each other. This has occurred during my three facials. This is not a place I go to get a relaxing day at the spa, its a place I go to get my extractions, face scrubs and clarifying treatments. If i wanted a day of relaxation, I go to Shine Spa.

History
Established in 1981
Voted "Top 5 Best Salons in K.C.", ROCA Salon & Spa was created by two Vidal Sassoon-trained hair experts, Rod and Rhonda Cavner. First established as Blondie's in 1976 at 51st & Main, it was an immediate huge success and was literally the talk of the town. In 1981 Blondie's relocated to a transitioned house in the now "artsy" district of 39th Street known as "Restaurant Row" (view map). Rhonda joined Rod in 1986 and wed two years later. Together they operated the full-service salon until they took a hiatus to Hawaii in 1999.
Hawaii offered a spiritual awakening and a rejuvenating lifestyle. However, the reality of life in paradise began to overshadow the fantasy. In 2003 they returned from Hawaii, bringing fresh, exciting ideas and exotic products and practices with them. You'll notice their Hawaiian influence from the exotic bamboo flooring to the pampering Lomi-lomi pedicure. The salon went through a total makeover, including its focus as well as design; ROCA Salon & Spa was born.
