Consistently excellent. The sushi is fresh and the pieces are large. The wait time is always quick, and the staff is friendly and attentive.

The only complaint I've ever had is that sometimes when you order delivery, they put the container of sushi on top of a hot dish container in the bag, which makes the sushi hot.

Robongi .. it has been a great ride. You have served me well .. but after last Friday I am afraid our relationship is on a "break." I will continue to order out from you but I can NO longer be a victim to your obnoxiously loud music and over crowded restaurant on a Friday or Saturday night. And NO .. everyone does not want to hear fist pumping techno while eating raw fish!!

When I first moved to Hoboken I became enamored with Robongi and eat there once a week - take out mainly. Then I had some friends in from out of town .. I wanted to treat them to an amazing sushi dinner. Robongi was our destination. We went at 8:30 on a Friday .. we had to wait about 20 minutes and then we were seated. The music was unbelievably loud and when I asked to have it turned down they told me ... "People come here for the club like atmosphere" ... really they do?

We made it through the meal and left with some slight hearing damage.. but I decided to give them another Friday night try. BIG mistake .. same issue and same answer.

Long story short.. if you want to impress your date or friends do NOT take them here on a Friday or Saturday night. They are a great take out or weekday spot .. but avoid them at all costs on the weekend.

I don't see nothing wrong, with a little bump and grind baby.  I also don't see nothing wrong with a lunch menu that is nothing, but affordable awesomeness.  Two sushi rolls and a soup or salad for $8 or $9 is a steal.  I also must mention that there were many different rolls to choose from on the lunch menu, which I find seldom at most establishments.  And you can order from the lunch menu on a Sunday!  Get out of her. I also ordered the hamachi roll with jalapenos, which was excellent.  In fact all my rolls were excellent.

I had great service and they gave us complimentary ice cream.  I definitely will come back.

Just remember that this place is BYOB with a minimum of $15 purchase.

Japanese restaurant with a bit of pirate-ship vibe. The food was okay -- not ultra-great, but pretty good. For the quality, thought it was a bit overpriced, but again, not too bad.

While visiting some friends in New Jersey we decided to find a good sushi restaurant and make an evening of it.

We walked to Robongi after reading a few previous Yelper reviews... I was pleased with my fellow yelpers as usual.

We arrived and the place was bumping... music and a laid back crowd made this place different from most sushi restaurants in Miami... then we began to order...

I started with the Robongi roll... a very fresh creation of tuna, cucumber and a house sauce that was delicious.

My friends all ordered different things..

A soso calamari roll
Good enough Chicken Terriyaki
A great yaki noodle soup

I myself was struggling with the choices, the waiter noticed this and decided to ask me some probing questions to help me make a choice. He suggested the dragon heart roll which was very satisfying.

I'd recommend this place to anyone if I knew they'd be in this area.

I have heard about this place for awhile and just tried it a few days ago...and it was as good as I had hoped it would be.  The fish was fresh the service was great and well BYOB is always a bonus!

The only slight downside is that it is very crowded and the tables are packed in together pretty tight...so much so that I felt like I should introduce my self to the people next to us...but that can be overlooked cause YES the food was that good!

As you walk through the door, you will be greeted by the restaurant staff and Maître d', who knows all the regulars by their first name. The walls are decorated with (gauti?) sailor décor. But I find it charming . Once you are seated, you are brought free edamame. The sushi/sashimi is super fresh and the daily special rolls are FANTASTIC! If you come here during lunch, the restaurant is usually more quite. Lunch is a fair deal and you get soup or a salad. Although the daily special rolls are a little bit more expensive than the regular special rolls arenot that pricey. As an ex-Park Sloper, I have paid more at some sushi places there. I would have to agree about the unreasonably loud music in the evening. But other than that, everything is PERFECT!

I heart Robongi!

Happy dinning! Cheers!

Well first off, I'm from Brooklyn and am used to eating rolls for $2.50 or $3.  Actually I'm more into all you can eat sushi.
So I came here after a canoeing trip.  The place was crowded and the scenery was quite dark.  The music was pumping like it was a club.  Well I'm pretty sure people come here before they hit up the bars and clubs.  This place is definitely more expensive than the sushi joints in BK.  The bento box was 21 bucks and the rolls ranged from $3- alot more.  I had the chicken katsu.  I asked the waiter if I could get that in a bento box and he said no.  No special requests for the paying customer?? The chicken katsu was just your average bbq chicken.
The service was alright except the waiter didn't even know today's special.  He had to look back at his notepad and read it to us LOL.

I wouldn't come back to this place to eat but I would come back to Hoboken.  What a nice neighborhood to visit!

When I'm here, I feel like I'm on a Japanese game show. Some of the staff members are VERY enthusiastic, but hey, I dig it.

Most importantly, the food is delicious. Some say this place has too much of an American twist on it, but I personally feel good food is good food.

Normally I pick out individual sushi/sashimi pieces, but the beef bento box is very nice, especially the crispy shumai.

If they see your face a few times, they definitely will throw some freebies your way. Many a time, I have went into Robongi, expecting a quiet meal with a friend or 2, and left several hours later completely frazzled (What can I say? How do you say no to free sake?).

BYOB ftw.

If you're craving authentic Japanese cuisine in all of its greasy goodness (well, sometimes anyway), then Robongi is NOT the place you're look for. However, if you're looking for standard, but decently prepared, Japanese dishes to compliment an awesome night of bar hopping and such, or a good date place, then this is it.

I was unfortunate enough to visit Robongi a little before they closed. However, even then, the service was pretty nice and comforting. The interior of the restaurant is quite decorative with the typical Japanese fixtures seen at these kinds of places.

The food was pretty well-made, though it's not mind-blowing. Prices were mostly in-line with what you'd expect from a Hoboken restaurant.

RECOMMENDATION: This is a great place to check out, but not if you're looking for the real deal.

This place in located in the Ferry side of NJ.  What a hidden jewel.

I spent less than $10 for lunch and got some of the BEST sushi I have ever had. Can you believe sushi combo platter for less than $10?
We had green tea ice cream in some kind of dough deep fried with chocolate and that was absolutely delicious (haven't found this desert anywhere else). We sat at the bar and it was not crowded at all, however we were there lunch time during the week (Wednesday).  The dinner prices are of course higher than lunch.  You get a great view of the Hudson river because your right on the water.

You have to pay for parking during the day, because they think you are going on the ferry, but after 6pm there is free parking right in front.   The waitress service was excellent and my friend who commutes a lot there knows her and she is the manager and very friendly (and has my friend says nice to look at).

This sushi place is always packed.  It was recommended to me by a few friends who claimed this is the BEST sushi in Hoboken.  Well- thats not true.  The rolls were average, the music was blasting so loud you couldn't hear anyone at your table.  The room was so cramped that i ended up eating at someone else's table that was seated next to me.
I'm sure that as far as freshness for sashimi- this place is good. However, these are not the most delicious and creative sushi rolls that you will find around.  I believe sushi lounge was better (and even that was not amazing)

I am a regular here and I must say that I've tried all the other places in Hoboken, and Robongi is hands down the best.

You can't beat there price, BYO option, or their great specials.
Plus they will make almost anything you can think up.
I must stress that the specialty rolls are where its at. If your a California sushi eater, then you aren't much of a sushi eater. Dive into all the rolls here you've never heard of. Not sure how many people have tried Flirt Sushi in Allendale. But Robongi is like the poor mans Flirt. Very nice rolls, great selection, and the specials that you wish you could have every week.

Just yesterday the chef sent us over a white tuna roll that was rice-less.
Not only did everyone at my table enjoy their tasting piece, but they placed another order for the same dish, as well as requesting several of our other rolls rice-less. Not sure what the white sauce they drizzled over it was, but it was perfect. A soft flavor that didn't overpower the tuna. A hint of black caviar really bumped up the dish also.

If you plan on going back really express your love for this place. They take care of their regulars.

Try the:

Spicy Tuna and Salmon Salad (with crunchy)

Sex on the Beach Roll

All the Specialty rolls.

Robongi has excellent sashimi and very good sushi in general. The fish I've had has been the best quality in Hoboken and prepared without fault. You won't find as many exotic offerings, but for the real sushi lover that should not disappoint. Also, the decor matches this theme and so you will not find plush, hip, modern decor like many other sushi lounges in Hoboken. In fact, the decor could use a little help.Hoboken is home to many a sushi shop, but Robongi serves up the best. You will not find such fancy-schmancy concoctions as at the more nouveau venues, but you will still be impressed by Robongi's fresh, melt-in-your-mouth cuts of fish.

A friend of mine brought me to this place, since I never had sushi. The service was fast and the sushi was tasty. I really liked the fried tempura shrimp sushi roll and the roll that had salmon, avocado and cream cheese. That was good too. I'm still afraid to try the eel. Just taking baby steps. The patrons were loud and noisy. One group, directly behind me, had sake bombs and I was literally goin to scratch someone's face if any of the sake landed on my clothes. But luckily for them, it didnt. LOL!  Will definitely go there again.
Oh and from what I hear, you can B.Y.O.B. Nice!

While the sushi rolls are fresh and tasty the service is a little unbearable. Let me describe for you a typical meal here. The hostess seats you and within 2 minutes a waitress comes over and expects an order to be ready. Then once the order is placed the rolls come out in literally 5 minutes.

So, for anyone who wants a quick meal this is the place to go. But, if you want to sit and have a meal that lasts longer than 30 minutes this is not the place for you. To make matters worse, the bus boys fill up your water after every sip. It seems nice at first, but when you literally have someone hovering over you every second of your meal it can be a little too much.

People in Hoboken love Robongi . . . I do not.

We stopped in for a "late" dinner (around 930) and had to wait almost an hour for a table . . . while couples, foursomes, and other "later" parties than us, were seated... but we were told repeatedly by the server that "he knew what he was doing."

For our wait, a nice bowl of Edamame..thanks for the $.25 courtesy.

As for the sushi... its a notch better than what you get in a plastic container from Garden of Eden  . . . although that's the case pretty much anywhere in Hoboken...catering to the palettes of 30-something white people. (let it be noted, I too am white, but not in my 30's)

One bright spot is that its byob, and if you are like me, enough alcohol will make any place tolerable.

Robongi is definitely packed - it is crowded, it is loud, it is BYOB....hmm, maybe this could work after all.

I would definitely reccomend it for big groups out on the town, maybe not TOO big of groups b/c of the noise, but 4-8 people should be able to haev a raucous conversation over some beer or wine.

Wouldn't want to go on a date here when its crowded, it would be too hard to have that witty banter...although the awkward silences might be easier to withstand.

I don't like sushi so I have the rice bowl with pork and egg sauce...it is amazing.

I either get delivery or eat at Robongi at least once a week.  It's extremely dependable and fast.  I highly recommend their special sushi rolls, which are unique and Robongi's fish is fresh.

One tip about ordering from Robongi: I would avoid getting any hot foods delivered, e.g. beef teriyaki, because it generally comes cold.  This is not to say that they're slow, I think it's just hard to keep smaller quantities of food hot, when it's combined with a delivery of sushi.

I have eaten many times at Robongi and have had varied experiences. For the most part the sushi is passable with large but moderate pieces.  The fish is not always the best but usually eatable.  I have tried to stay away because of the zombi like service and bad attitude. First of all they almost always make a error on the check in their favor - most dont check but they seem to substitute a higher priced item.  Tonight  I was dragged there and seated next to the kitchen - just about the time the food came (10pm) they started to clean the kitchen floor by dumping a few inch pool of ammonia on the floor - splashing me a bit and engulfing me with the worst fumes ever - a complaint answered 10 minutes later was met by indifference by the manager and a I take care of you later 0 he never did and old us to just pay and leave - he told me if i raised my voice he  would have me ejected. tOTALLY MISMANAGED AND RUINED MY $30 MEAL - THERE ARE A LOT OF SUSHI RESTAURANTS - IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A GOOD TIME GO ANYWHERE ELSE.

May I first say: cheap sushi.  AND it was good.
So this place is unconventional for sure.  It's decorated more like a Floridian lobster shop, but I suppose I can appreciate the not-so-expected atmosphere.  Long and narrow, the space holds a decent amount of tables.  Sashimi is very good here, lunch box specials are super cheap with tons of food, and there are a lot of options on the menu.  And, because I'm not cool, the wait staff explained to me which fish on my plate was which.  Thanks, dude.

Decent sushi - nothing all that memorable but not bad either.  The edamame was typical (but not much you can do to improve edamame).  I had the yellowtail scallion rolls and the Crazy Horse rolls.  They both had very fresh fish but the texture of the rolls was a bit mushy.  Bonus points for being BYOB and having outdoor seating.  Good service.

What a fun place for sushi! The first time I went there I was shocked at the loud hiphop music, but after a while it grows on you :) Service is great and attentive, though there are a few lingering waiters that are a little too pushy, always trying to clear the table before you've finished eating.

I love their assortment of specialty rolls, especially the changing weekly specials. They like to match their weekly specials to holidays or seasons. I always try them out. Sometimes I stop in after work for some take out and they are great about offering me a seat and water while I wait.

I would give them 5 stars if they had better appetizers and a classier ambience. Bumpin music is great for a party but not my preference for dinner, especialy after a long day of work. So I don't recommend this place fro a romantic date, but definitely for a laid back meal without breaing the bank.

Order Tips:
- Definitely try the Rock & Roll. Yoro roll is good too. And always try something new on their weekly specials!

Good, fresh sushi, and well-priced to boot.  Being BYO helps too.  The decor is, well, untraditional, for a sushi joint.  It's full of "crabby" decor and funny signs.  Doesn't exactly scream "Japanese restaurant."  Then again, who cares?  The one down side is that they pump really loud techno/dance/bad pop that makes it difficult to carry on a conversation.  All in all, good sushi, but not ideal of a date... unless you don't want to talk to them anyhow.

I WOULD NEVER GO BACK HERE!
Went back this past Saturday for dinner with my friend. We got there got there around 8 and had no reservation. It was packed and the hostess (I think?) told us to come back at 8:20. We went to another bar where my friend chugged a glass of wine and I left mine unfinished (because I am not that gansta) to get back in time. When we got back it was even more crowded, like no room to even step inside the restaurant. We waited until 8:45 while some other guy sat everyone else except us. A couple even walked in and was sat right away while the new host winked at them. My friend was getting really angry and started arguing with the original hostess who told us she had nothing to do with seating. I knew it was time to leave when my friend got loud because I didn't want spit in my sushi.
We went next door to Wild Ginger where we were sat right away. I guess Robangi does not want new customers!

Robongi is a delicious Japanese restaurant, but the food is much better when you dine in versus ordering delivery.  The restaurant has a sea theme with marine decor.  The sushi is fresh and light and the terryaki is tangy and flavorful.

My friend and I ordered delivery the other night and were impressed.  The delivery came within 30 minutes on a cold Saturday night when I am sure there were tons of other orders.  I got the Grilled Salmon Terryaki, which consisted of two large pieces of salmon with a thin layer of sauce.  It came with a few steamed carrots and broccoli pieces.  It also included a choice of side salad or miso soup and a large portion of white rice.  I started with the salad, which was topped with thick ginger dressing.  The iceberg lettuce leaves were a bit too large and could have been cut smaller.  My friend ordered the spicy maki dinner, which included spicy California, tuna, and salmon rolls.  The pieces were small, but the sushi was fresh and crisp.  Since it was an entree, she also recieved a choice of soup or salad.  She tried the soup an denjoyed it.

This is definitely one of the best sushi places in the area.

The Sushi regular combo was AWESOME. Tons of great sushi for a great price. Best of all, the people that took us are regulars, so the wait staff brought us a free desert -- Mango sorbet in a mango shell, with a scoop of lychee sorbet and two cigar cookies. Yum!

The outdoor dining and crowded tables attracted me to this hot spot. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Although it's busy, the space is comfortable. Good for duo meals or groups. Extensive menu of delicious Japanese cuisine. Affordable. The Nasu, baked eggplant w/ miso sauce appetizer, was amazing. Subtle yet tasty.
However, I was not a fan of the Chicken roll appetizer. We also ordered 1 spicy tuna hand roll and the shrimp tempura roll. I did not try the shrimp tempura but I was told it was good. The spicy tuna wasn't very spicy... a little disappointing. Overall, this place was a fun atmosphere and had good sushi. I would return again.

I was only going to give this place 3 stars because of the fact that the food was average, but the service went above and beyond.  I came here with my in-laws on Christmas Eve.  Not only were they one of the few places that was open that night, but they also were so helpful with all our crazy questions, and requests.  My sister-in-law doesn't really like fish, so she requested some vegetarian rolls that weren't on the menu and they accommodated us, no sweat.  They gave us great suggestions, and were very friendly.  I would go back there again just because I love places that value customer service.  The food came out fast, but we weren't pushed out the door or anything.  And tho the food was good -- I wouldn't call it great or fantastic or anything -- pretty good sushi.

Love this place!!!  The food was excellent and the wait staff was quite friendly.  We got there around 9ish and left at closing time which was 11:30.  Local laws prevented us from sitting outside after 11 so the staff moved us inside and told us we could leave whenever.  Pretty sweet.

We ordered the seaweed salad as an appetizer and capped the night with another seaweed salad.  For our main meal, we got 3 different hand rolls (Sakura, Spicy California, and Crazy Horse) plus the sashimi platter.  The Sakura roll was especially delicious and highly recommended.  The place is also BYOB with no bottle charge.  Awesome!!!  We picked up 4 bottles of sake from a small market a block away.  I think 4 girls finished off 4 bottles of sake in 3 hours...no worries...sake doesn't cause bad hangovers the next day.  I'm living proof...teehee.

The place gets quite busy during dinner, but the wait is not too bad.  I highly recommend this place if you're in the Hoboken area and craving yummy japanese.  Kampai!!!

I just have to add an update here as it never fails to impress. Came here today for lunch and ordered my normal sushi lunch for one. Sushi made to perfection. Quick and friendly service. Find me a better sushi place in Hoboken. I dare you :)

The fish here is excellent, and they have rolls that can be made without rice, wrapped in cucumber.  This was especially surprising to find in New Jersey.

I have been told that it's the best sushi/sashimi in Hoboken... so I've never tried any of the other sushi bars.  After eating at Robongi once, though, and loving it, I don't see why I should bother trying any of the others... I mean, once you've found good sashimi, why go someplace else?

The decor may seem a little confusing at first (am I at Joe's Crab Shack or a sushi restaurant?). However, the sushi and sashimi is fresh and better than most restaurants in Hoboken. Plus its BYOB... no complaints there!
