I don't come to Woodside often, maybe twice a year to eat at Buck's. I have occasionally wandered across the street to Roberts Market to see what this venerable landmark offers. Today I actually bought something from the deli for the first time - buckets of couscous salad. I also bought a couple of bottles of port wine from a brand I haven't seen at Trader Joe's.
What really impressed me was the variety of sausage at the meat counter. I should have picked up some of the Hawaiian sausage on display. Come to think of it, the blackened tri-tip looked good too. Now I have a reason to return to Woodside, besides Buck's. More of these local markets will have the chance to thrive as America devolves to a lower-entropy form of social organization. They just won't be as well-stocked with exotic foodstuffs as Roberts.Comment from christine r. of Roberts Market 1/3/2012

On occasion I go in, but always call in my sandwich order ahead of time. I did just that today. I walk in and as I walk up to the deli counter, several customers come shortly after I arrive. We're all standing there and I start laughing as the minutes tick by since I cannot believe no one will even look up or acknowledge us! Finally, after about 5 minutes, a woman behind the counter says in a low husky rushed voice, "we'll be with you in a minute". We all look around at each other as if it's some sort of joke. I start laughing again. This can't be real I thought.
Everyone is too busy to even look up, make eye contact with us and acknowledge us?? Really? I wait another 2-3 minutes and interrupt one of them as they "hurry" around and tell them I'm merely here to pick up a sandwich. I feel like they almost tossed it over the counter to me, as if I was bothering them.
I really wanted to find a manager at that moment and explain that at least a simple greeting the customer would help.
Sadly, this usually happens EVERY time I go in, but I've never had to wait THIS long. -

Wow, did this place make me angry. So angry in fact, i had to wait awhile to write this review.
Since we were in the area, we decided to check this place out and purchase salmon and steak to cook at home.
I asked the man working the fish/meat counter if he could debone my salmon, he hesitated, and then said only if he could remove the skin. Duh, i LOVE the skin, it's one of my favorite things about salmon, (especially the way my husband grills it.) I told him not to bother, i would do it myself at home.
I was annoyed by this since i always ask for my salmon to be deboned, and have NEVER gotten that answer.
I then asked him if they had any dungeness crab, and he told me the season was over. I was surprised to hear this, since another local fish market told me the season was until the end of June this year.
I mentioned this to him, and he told me all other markets and fishmongers are either lying to me or they are illegally poaching. Really? You want to make accusations like that about other stores/owners? How nasty and rude can you be???
Upon returning home i did a little research, and the previous info i had gotten was correct. The season ends in June. I also happened to be shopping at a local fish market on Saturday, and asked where the fish came from, and was once again assured they were local.
The man we dealt with at Robert's was so unpleasant, so obnoxious, and had such an attitude i will NEVER step foot in there again. I was so mad, i have even considered contacting management about this worker's behavior.
In the end, i figured they don't need my business, and probably won't care what i have to say. -

I'd give it three and a HALF stars. It's a nice little grocery store with good prices and a good selection. I stopped here with a friend on the way to our picnic, and it was a perfect place to grab some stuff to go.
Smoothies, freshly prepared sandwiches, way too many single-serving baked goods, sushi, and a salad bar; all kinds of quick, inexpensive options. I wouldn't go out of my way for Roberts, but it's a nice stop in the area. -

As a former employee of this place and still occasional customer, I felt it was time I reviewed Robert's.
I worked at Robert's during my summers off in high school/part of college. I started in the deli and eventually moved to being a checker. A lot of people complain about the service in the deli but I feel that people should really consider what those in the deli have to deal with on a daily basis. Customer service is not an easy job and customer service to the wealthy is even harder. Not to mention the management could probably treat the employees a little better...
That being said Robert's has a great selection of meats, produce and wine. The quality here is unmatched. Sure the place is pricey when it comes to grocery staples but if you're looking for a quality cut of meat or wine recommendation, this is the place to go. -
Review from Xue H.
This place is ok. They take forever to do sandwiches/coffee (and sometimes wrong). I'd avoid the sandwich area, the lunchmeat was really tasteless (Boar's Head tritip). Their bbq chicken is sometimes ok, and sometimes really dry and not even salted. Everything is pretty expensive here. Those .99 cent gallon jugs of water are $1.49 here, as an example. However, their meat section is pretty awesome. Their marinated meats are ridiculously good and addictive (marinated skirt steak especially, and the cowboy steak. rosemary lamb is good too). Seafood is fresh (scallops looked really fresh and shrimp was good).

On Saturday night I was heading to a dinner when party I realized I hadn't brought anything. Ugh I felt so uncivilized, am I really the type of brute that shows up at someone's house empty handed? Definitely not.
Since I was driving and I only practice safe text, I called a friend and expert Yelper to help me craft a solution. We realized that Roberts was more or less along my chosen route and we (conference) called their wine department to verify they had what I needed. Bob (no relation to the Roberts namesake) set aside a couple nice bottles and I was in and out of the store within a few minutes.
Great experience, great service, great save. Thanks Bob and Roberts! -

A nice market that may be pricey but it's got about anything you could want from a grocery store and then some.

The top extreme of my grocery shopping spectrum (the bottom extreme being Grocery Outlet). I'm not here that often, but when I want the absolute top-grade meat or fish I know where to find it. The quality just blows my mind. Many thanks to my former coworker Shari for turning me on to Roberts many years ago.
Small but fresh and vibrant produce section, amazing deli cases full of temptation. Lots of interesting food and beverage products hard to find elsewhere. Meat and deli counter service is top-notch!
Yesterday's visit exemplified what Roberts is all about. A woman was demo'ing fair-trade profits-to-charity company olive oil. The two virgin-cold-press oil varieties were from a species indigenous to Palestine and a more potent Italian variety. Complementing the oils was a tray of herbs in which to dip the bread cubes after they'd been dipped in the oil. Everything was delicious and I didn't dare ask how much they cost.
My $35 haul: bag of spring greens, tub of Niman Ranch pulled pork in BBQ sauce, Santa Cruz Baking Co. cracked sourdough loaf, 8-oz tub of rice crackers that I've demolished, a "seductive" French cheese with a stripe of ash in the center, Tate's chocolate chip cookies, and two bags of Have'a Chips.
The rich really do live in a very different world than you and I. -

Can we say retar**? No? Okay, then I won't say it.
I had class Saturday at Canada College. Roberts Market is close so I thought for lunch I would call in a sandwich and pick it up. I don't like going there and ordering bc they take FOREVER! Most of the time there's more people working there than customers ordering and for some reason they still take a very long time. I called and they told me I can call it in but I can't pick it up until 1 (I called at 11:45). I asked why and they told me bc Mr. Roberts said so, it's his new policy. They continued to say that he wants employees on the floor and not on the phone taking orders... well obviously they are going to be on the phone writing down the order?! I'm confused. I told them that's unfortunate and they had lost a costumer.
Come on, is it that hard to have 1 person running the call ins and the rest working the floor? I see tons of people working there, is it that hard?
And as I read other yelp reviews I feel they only gave them high stars only because it's in a nice neighborhood and extremely expensive. If I'm going to be paying an arm and a leg, I want better service! After reading Jen W.'s review it looks like they have a hard time keeping stuff clean.
Too bad with all the money they take in from ripping people off they can't buy a brain. -

Woodside is like the nexus of all bike routes in the Peninsula. At least that's what it seemed like with all the cyclists pouring in at lunchtime on a recent weekend. There weren't many places to grab food - either Roberts Market, a grocery store with deli, or the bakery. Roberts Market is a very nice small grocery store with all your basics and a good selection of fresh fruit and veg. However, I was a little disappointed by their deli selection. The salads didn't look very interesting and though the sandwiches were good, you don't get much for $8. If I had a choice, next time I'd buy a sandwich somewhere else and just bring it with me.

Roberts Market (in Woodside) is basically a local Bristol Farms. While Roberts Market is not that big and has a casual neighborhood feel to it, the store is actually quite upscale.
They had a nice selection of beef and seafood. Prices were a little on the high side (about in the price range of a Bristol Farms), but everything looked good (especially the wild sea scallops). There was also a big selection of wine to go with the meats and fish.
I had to hop on a plane so I went to the snack food aisle to shop for in-flight food to go with my complimentary beverage. There was a good selection. They had some mainstream national brands of snacks and candy as well as some more upscale brands like Vosges. I liked though that I found some smaller brands I haven't seen before.
I got some Nunes Farms pistachios (in their shells) that were very good. Crisp with a good flavor and nicely salted. I also got some gourmet organic gummy pandas (though really just bears) from a brand called Bissinger's. The flavor was blueberry acai. I preferred the nuts though these were fine. Very strong flavor and quite potent. A little went a long way.
The snacks/sweets were a little on the pricey side, but they were definitely healthier than the snacks found at airport terminal shops. Those airport snacks are often overpriced so I may not have paid too much more.
Service was good and friendly.
Woodside is a pretty nice area and Roberts Market fits in quite well. If I lived here, I would definitely want to check out the quality of their beef and seafood (and I might even become a regular). If you are in the area and like quaint grocery stores or are looking for a good snack, Roberts Market would definitely be worth a stop.
Parking is free in the lot that supports Roberts Market. I liked the lot too. Occasionally nice and loose gravel crunching beneath my feet--a welcomed sound and feel when compared to the standard hard concrete parking lots in most big cities. -

I get lost easily without GPS. My iphone was leading me astray and into dead end roads. I spotted my BFF's car and knew I'd be ok!
Great meeting spot if you plan on hitting the trails around Woodside.
They have a wonderful deli with full selection of all the ingredients for a picnic at last minute or those BBQ needs for the wonderful weather we've been having.
Clean restrooms are upstairs in the back. One at a time for the bikers who seem to make this place a regular pit-stop on their ride along the curvy roads in the area.
Parking lot wraps around the building and I felt safe in the area. Didn't even lock my car!

Plus for being pretty close to my house
Another plus for having an awesome deli and uber yummy sandwiches
Plus for fresh produce
Plus for carrying gourmet chocolates
Minus for being overpriced. Bread found in other grocery stores cost at least a dollar more here
Minus for always being crowded
Overall, Robert's is nice to visit on occasion. They offer wonderful deli items that are just divine.
I only wish that they were a little cheaper. To date, they are more expensive than Wholefoods. -

I've been told so many times that this place was a must stop. Yet every time I am taking a drive in this area, for some reason I always miss it or perhaps I just never knew where it was to begin with.
After some exploratory driving around in the Pescardero area which ended up on 84 towards Woodside, I finally saw this supermarket on the side of the road and had to stop by. I clearly recall the blackjack being a favorite for BBQing and since I was planning on BBQing ... I had to take a chance. $25 later, it was probably the best marinated tri-tip I've had to date AND I didn't even cook it correctly so if I did I think it would be even more delicious!
This is a small market, definitely gives you the gourmet feel as everything here looks clean, appetizing and very, very organized. They have a great selection of cheeses (mmmm) and crackers for an afternoon picnic or snack. They also have quite a good wine collection boasting many wines from Ridge Winery as well as other well known names.
They have an espresso / coffee station as well as a deli area. The bf got espresso and said it was actually surprisingly good and their delis looked  although I was mainly there for their marinated meats. Great place, I will TOTALLY be back and this time my tri-tip is going to be medium rare! -

We stopped by here to pick up a couple sandwiches before our hike last sat. I had the corned beef sandwich and Rob had the turkey sandwich. Both were reasonably priced and delicious. Yummy Deli food.

Roberts Market is such a welcome sight here in Woodside.
Before I headed up to the trails, I had to make a stop at Roberts to grab a sammy. The roasted turkey is perfect -- moist turkey, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, mayo and mustard in a crunchy sourdough roll. Not bad for $6.50. Don't forget to grab a number, if they're busy, you may be standing there for awhile.
If you're here to pick up picnic essentials, they have a good selection of cheese (some of which come in mini-sizes, which is perfect if you don't want buy a big chunk or wish to have variety), bread, pastries, produce and wine.
My tummy is fed and it's now time to hit the trails! -

As of Dec 29, 2009 Roberts Market in Woodside received a poor rating from the county health inspector. This is one of only a small handful of places in all of San Mateo County.
To get a poor rating you need to have some of the following criteria met: insect infestations and structural problems, such as not having hot water and ect.
So maybe the sandwich is good. I have had it before, nothing great but the poor rating scares me. And the prices are insane. -

Over the past few months, we've learned to fully appreciate this quaint little grocery store that's located in the middle of nowhere. (It's Woodside.)
You'll find various groceries here. Fruits, veggies, seafood, meat, wine, cheese, snacks, drinks, pastries...basically everything.
We've been primarily going here for salads, sandwiches and a large selection of hot and cold deli foods. The ready made entrees are surprisingly fresh, even though they look like they've been sitting there for hours. Today we had the roasted chicken thighs, which were nicely moist and not too salty, and the roast beef, which was equally tasty and actually prepared medium rare. The Chinese chicken salad and the steamed veggies and pretty good, too. I also like the sandwiches here; they use really fresh veggies, including sprouts (my favorite).
To get there, all you need to do is get off on Woodside off 280 and head west for a few minutes. Not that inconvenient, though parking can be tough at times. -

Roberts is an institution. Sure, growing up in Woodside everyone called it "Rip Off Roberts", but it really isn't. Ok...the prices are a little higher than Safeway, but to be able to go to a store in the Bay Area and have everyone know you by name etc is priceless. Plus, when my grandma was alive...she had a charge acct there...not a card, you just fill out a form! Get THAT at Safeway...I dare you!
The Roberts family has been around forever. They have a wonderful store with amazing meat, produce and a great deli. I recommend the Tri-Tip with Pepper Jack sammich. Yummmm. The BlackJack steak is good but I'm still more partial to Fred's Steak.
Steer clear on weekends though, unless you like tripping on $5000 bikes and avoiding their riders in spandex (some things should really not be allowed!) and their little clipon bike shoes. Plus the traffic caused by some of these guys takng up the whole road can get rough. When you live there, you get a bit jaded after a bit. Sorry! :-) -

Some of the best choices can be made while in a cheese coma. Believe me. I know.
A beautiful California day, bread, cheese, chocolate cake, grapes, surf, wind, birds, fresh air.
What else does a person need?
Robert's has a good selection of supplies for a great day, not necessarily a everyday grocery store but definitely a tasty goodies store. Love the location as well as the selection. -

Wide range of items to choose from..didnt check out of much of their produce.
I was mainly eyeing their meats and sandwiches and marinated items.
This place did kind of remind me of a Bristol Farms but it wasnt all crowded and such. They also have labels of where certain items are from like the fish and produce. Also everything looked just so much more fresh than the other places.
Cant wait to go grab some of that Black Jack and grill it~ (its their marinated tri-tip) -

Chicken Cordon Blue Sandwich, Tri-Tip Sandwich.....I dream about these things for lunch. I love their personalized salads as well, but I am not such a fan of the rest of the deli selections.
The Groceries are to die for, but they are expensive. What do you expect for a Gourmet Woodside Grocery? Expansive selection of cheeses, wines and a great meat department. One of the only places in the Bay Area that I know of that would grind Steak Tartare for me (which is a big pain in the butt for them because it requires extensive cleaning for health reasons). Customer Service here shines!Listed in: Food Glorious Food

Amazing selection... from the wine and meats to the breads and produce. Prices are on the high-side but in most cases are worth it.
My first three trips to Robert's would have earned it four-stars. But, after the last trip, I realize that I've been consistently underwhelmed by the customer service at the deli. Not the meats or the wine (they seem super-helpful), but the deli staff disappoints me every time. Never friendly, never efficient and the last time I went in, they forgot our paninis on the press, we could smell them burning, other staffers smelled it, and the woman **still** wrapped them up and gave it to us. We wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt, went through with the purchase, only to open it up in the parking lot and realize they were both inedible. Burned to a cardboard consistency and just plain careless.
If you can manage to wrangle your selections from the well-stocked and impeccably-clean store without having to interact with the staff, Roberts is a great stop before you head out on your day's adventures. -

If I lived in Woodside I would shop here often. We stopped here Sat 6/23/07 because a friend wanted coffee across the street, I said I'd go check out this place.
It's a nice, clean, gourmet grocery store which I liked and found some things. If I had more time & money I'd buy more stuff.
There's a dessert station, fresh veggies/fruits, milk, deli (sandwiches $6), cheeses-saw local Cowgirl Creamery & Harley Goat Cheese, fish counter, meat counter, & saw Acme breads.
I got:
Cherry Tree Cherry juice $4.17 +CRV .08
Raynies Jasmine white tea $2.69 (sale price)
Paynies Premium Peony white tea $2.69 (sale price)
Clover Organic Fat Free Milk 1/2 gallon $2.29
Total $11.92. Nice paper bag w/ strong handles available. My friend said the bathrooms are upstairs, though I didn't use it. Credit cards taken. -

This place is a great place to shop when you're looking to splurge and maybe impress some company. Everything you would want and need for entertaining -- the best of wines, cheeses, meats, prepared foods, bakery, etc.
If you're on a budget, spare yourself and don't even tempt yourself by going there. If you're not on a budget, let 'er rip. Pre-made deli sandwiches are especially great.
Best parking is on the West side of the market. Look out for cyclists, as previously noted.Listed in: If money were no object ...

A nice upscale market with great deli sandwiches. They make it to order. Smoothies are also excellent. but once in a while you get real bad service (some unhappy campers) behind the counter making those smoothies.
I often stop in there to get a sandwich for lunch before or after a hike in the Peninsula. The price is fairly reasonable, around $7 / $8 dollars for sandwiches. Smoothies are around $4 -

I almost prematurely reviewed Roberts Market a couple of years ago but I'm glad that I waited.
In the past, I stopped-in after work for a nice, main dinner dish or for something to compliment the main course, but a little while back, I picked-up a few sandwiches for lunch.
My fave sandwiches so far are the Philly and the Tomato & Mozzarella. My sister and friends seemed to enjoy them as well and asked about the great deli.
Sometimes the customer service can be hit or miss but lately, the deli staff has been affable and very courteous. In fact, whenever I was waiting for my sandwiches (not a long wait at all), at least 1-2 people asked if I had been helped or if there was anything else that I needed. Nice!
On top of the great sandwiches that day, I excitedly picked-up some white wine that I never see at Safeway. Yes Safeway, it's but a few minutes from my home. Anyhow, nothing beats a deep, barrel-aged chardonnay! Did I describe that right? Ha ha, let's just say that I like buttery chardonnays (along with yummy champagne). My friends enjoyed that bottle too! ;-)
Roberts Market is great and worth at least a trial run! I hear that there's one in Portola Valley now too if that is closer for you. Lunardi's serves us Belmont residents well but if Roberts Market ever moved nearby, there might be some serious competition. -

How do you rate a place that is in most respects quite good, but, falls down in one category so severely that you won't be able to shop there?
This is a real nice local neightborhood supermarket. Convenient, friendly, maybe a little more pricey than the major chains but overall worth the convenience. I particularly like the dedicated wine staff.
ANYWAY, when I shop for food I generally buy a roasted whole chicken. it's good for several meals over several days, AND healthy if you omit most of the skin.
Roberts does not roast the fresh chicken that they receive in their own meat department. Instead they get a special chicken that is prepared for deli departments. ALAS, it is either injected or simply soaked with a lot of extremely salty, vile brine. It is unpleasant fresh and completely inedible the following day cold.
Do you like a little chicken with your salt? Yeah, it's like that.
Check out the roasted chickens at Whole Foods. I do. Excellent. And then, I end up doing the rest of my shopping there too, even that it's a lot less convenient for me.
I think that all Roberts actually needs to do is roast chickens from their own meat department and they would be fine.
I discussed this with the deli department manager.
Dream on.
Sigh. -

Tucked away in Woodside is the most delectable New York style pastrami sandwich - large enough for two to share. Make sure to get it grilled, with the cole slaw (trust me on this one despite your apprehension) and have the tomato and lettuce added after it's grilled. Heaven wrapped in white paper I tell you!
Roberts also has a huge selection of meat (marinated and not) along with many other gourmet goodies from fresh pastries to numerous types of hummus and prepared foods like couscous salad and lasagna.
FYI, Roberts is a great spot to meet if you're looking for a pretty halfway point between SF and SJ. -

Good gentrified market in the town center of Woodside. The sandwiches are ample, and you can munch on the bread they provide over by the hot soup.
Also, little known fact: here you can buy the focaccia they bake and serve at the Woodside Bakery across the street. Littler known fact: in addition to buying it you can mail it to me.
