This place is right up the street from Phillipe's so its a good place to get a drink after a Dodger's game. We marched up the stairs and right into ropes n bouncers. We were hit with a $5 cover, which we dodged and got in free. Sweet!
This place caters to a 18 older crowd; though if it's that's the minimum, you know there are kids there younger than that. I know I'm supposed to believe I can fly, but since R Kelly didn't, I won't try. The best dealio is that on Fri/Sat's they have a one dollar taco stand. So if your in Chinatown, and craving a Mexican fix, traiga su apetito!
Came here for the goth/industrial club known as Eternal/Eterno, which apparently happens on the 2nd Sat of the month. I'd been kind of turned off at the idea of going to Chinatown for a club but I found that the club was easy to find, just a little bit off the 110 freeway. There was plenty of street parking and the area was quite safe, with no questionable peeps hidden in the shadows of the street. I was pleasantly surprised.
The club itself is quite roomy, with a large outside patio area and two decent sized dance areas. It was nice to actually go somewhere that has plenty of adequate seating if you just want to sit and sip on some wine before getting your dance on. The club was clean and I was pleased with the ambiance of the place. I was also impressed with the bar, which was both reasonable in price (especially compared to those bullshit Hollywood drink prices) and impressive in selection. I had a good White from a freshly opened bottle. I can't tell you how many times I've been served a glass to vinegarized swill at The Ruby so points to Roberto's for giving me the freshness. A good-sized Vodka and Red Bull (12 oz or so) cost me $6. Not bad.
The only reason I'm not giving the venue a full 5 stars is because the bathrooms are woefully inadequate. For a club that large, two stalls ain't doing it for me. A line formed of girls doing the pee-pee dance, all dying to get into those two measly stalls. No good.
I should also mention that Eternal/Eterno ended up being a good ol' time. The music, although Siouxsie heavy (which happens so often at zee goth clubs), was really good and an eclectic mix of retro with a little newer stuff sprinkled in for good measure. The industrial room was a little more hardcore than I prefer but I still got my dance on here and there, mostly to some good EBM type of stuff. All in all, good times were had.
This place looked like a renovated restaurant/apparel store. Clubbing in chinatown? Fortunately it wasn't as weird as typing that out. Located on the second floor I left the house at 11pm on a Friday night and arrived to face a $10 entrance fee. There are two dance rooms; There's a room with a dj spinning hiphop/90s/r&b and another spinning rock/80s. The hip hop room gets hot quick and the Mediumgantic sized fan tried its best but the heat won this round. The rock room was where it's most packed ... when the cover band wasn't playing. I appreciate the effort, bandfolks, but 7+ songs - too much. 3 songs instead and you'll hit the audience appreciation climax for you to leave and be leaving a legend. The rooms are divided by a patio to lounge and smoke. Populating these rooms are rock hipsters rocking mohawks and black anything. Even though located in chinatown the crowd was mostly hispanic and it was refreshing for me to not face another asian night. Good, friendly people. I went with 6 other guys and my intentions were to get my dance on. Sadly it's not the best place to get your other groove on - slim pickings. $10 watered down cocktails that will make an alcoholic thirsty - stick with the beer if you want the buzz. I'll definitely come back again but I'll bring girls with me next time.
