3 reviews for Robert E Ryan Community Park
A park with a view. See the photos.
And you'd better like hills and stairs 'cause this piece of land is on the hillside, overlooking the ocean, with a Catalina view. There are flat areas, but the inclines are so steep in places that my legs got a workout just trekking around to take the pictures.
Ryan is an Irish name, right? And today is St. Pat's Day. So I am reviewing an Irish park on this day. haha!
Is this a lucky day? I hope so.
OK, so if you take PV Drive W to Hawthorne and go up, you will see the park as you round a big curve. There is a smallish parking lot when you enter on Ryan Park and also you can park on Hawthorne. Set your emergency brake! haha it's one hell of a slope.
So, in addition to killer views, the park has a basketball court, a clubhouse, a baseball field with some little bleachers, two large playground areas, open flat grassy areas, nice shade trees, & picnic areas where you can barbeque.
It borders Los Verdes golf course.
Bring your camera and wear athletic shoes.

The basketball court here is very well-maintained, an unusual find in a public park. It's kind of nice when there's not just a backboard and a rim, but also a net...great place to run around and shoot some hoops, provided the one court's not in use.

This is a wonderful park for families and children. Lots of playground equipment to choose from, and a very large grassy area for the kids to run around. Views of the ocean and a nice breeze on most days. Only negative is that the park is on a pretty steep slope, so lots of stairs to get to the park from the parking lot. The park looks great, is well maintained, and there is staff on site. Check it out.
