Category: Juice Bars [Edit]
2670 Mowry AvenueI love this place!!! I was such a Jamba Juice whore and then when I discovered this place, it was all over. It's always less crowded and their smothies are DELIGHTFUL. Best cure for hangovers.

Wow. So I'll admit, I didn't know that Robek's was a Jamba Juice competitor until I actually went in there to give it a try after lunching at Panera.
I'm not even a Jamba fan to begin with. I like spending 50 cents on their sherbet but I don't even like the smoothies since they melt in 5 seconds. That may be due to SF's new rules of the Anti-Styrofoam campaign.
So I came into Robeks with no expectations... just thirst. My old roommate and I look at the menu and configure. He orders the Big Wednesday... I get the Passionfruit Cove. We took a bit of time with this decision but the girl patiently waited as she knew we were probably newbs. She even gave her 2 cents about what tasted good.
So she makes our Junior smooties and pours them out and hands them to us.. and then she asks, do you want me to pour the left over in a sample cup so you can try what each of you got? and we obviously went along...
So she pours the rest into the little sample cups and i try my roommates... he tries mine.. we make mm sounds.. Then we try our own choice...
"I like yours..."
"i like yours.."
OK LET'S SWITCH!
All thanks to the help of whoever she is.. for letting us sample each other's concoctions.. Thanks! So the smooties are nice.. no piecey fruit chunks that get stuck in the straw.. not too watery not too think.. just perfect for a nice and sunny Sunday.
This review is SOLELY on the Robek's located in Fremont. The only other one i know of locally is the one in Newark on Jarvis St.
The customer service at THIS particular store SUCKS major A$$. I think the owner also works behind the counter with the kids.
the first time i went in was a little after they opened. The owner (middle aged man) took my order and the other orders of the people in line after me. The gal starts making my smoothie and i guess she added an incorrect something and the man barks at her "Don't you know how to READ??"
Ew! What a jerk! the gal working couldn't have been more than a jr or sr. in high school. I asked her, "did he just say to you what i think he said?"
She says, "uh, yea... he's always like that"
WTF? Has he heard of the Dept of Labor and hostile work environment rules?? JERK OFF.
So i go back another time, and I have to admit, i like Robek's smoothies a lot more than Jamba's. They taste less "frothy" or something, more like something i would make at home, and i really like their acai berry one... (hmm, morals or satisfy craving...?...)
This time they didn't have the sign for their green tea smoothie and i wasn't sure what they used in it so i asked the guy (same annoying owner -man) "what do you put in your green tea smoothie"
he says, "green tea". WTF -- of course there's green tea a$$hole, i want to know WHAT ELSE do you use?? like, soy milk, yogurt or ice?? or ??
anyway, so i leave with my smoothie b/c i just had a dentist appt. and couldn't eat, gotta drink sumthin...
anyway, so this last time i was determined to write this review to let y'all know that this man is a jerk and if you hear him say something to his workers, say something. I regret not saying something to his face that first time.
By contrast, the Newark store is waaaay nicer, dunno if it's franchised but it looks like only workers work there and they actually seem to enjoy themselves.
Tasted powdery for some reason. But the real critic of the day was my mom who wanted some carrot juice. Don't know why she likes carrot juice but never get in the way of a momma wanting her carrot juice. Service was a bit odd, though. Non-communicative, seemingly confused, and mentally preoccupied baristas. My mom wanted a cold junior size carrot juice, but one scoop of ice didn't even make it worth her while. She says she will give it another chance, but me and the Strawnana smoothie was a bit under par compared to the crazy concoctions I would make at my former employer's juice bar at Jamba Juice. Didn't get a chance to look at the menu in depth because I wanted to get in line before the party of 8 behind me beat me to it. I'll stick with my homemade smoothies and my Magic Bullet I bought on TV just to show off to the people in the room that I am a man of my word. -Matt

Good variety and good choices available here. I like their chai and banana smoothie---never thought the flavor of banana AND cinnamon could be so present yet not overpower each other.
