Great place to chill and relax. The outside seating is very relaxing.  If you are looking to have a quiet night, perfect place to go.

Underwhelming and over priced! Not horrible, but not worth going back.

They have a cute outdoor patio, but unfortunately there was a HORRIBLE 90's alt rocker doing covers.

I stopped in here for lunch not knowing much about it.  I think the main thing Robano's has going for it is the nice patio.  I am sure it is a great spot for evening drinks when the lights are all lit.  It has a nice European feel.  Other than that, I am not really a fan.

I believe there was only one other party there (which should have been a sign) and the service still took forever.  The food was nothing too great either.  I had the bruscetta, since I was not especially hungry, and was overwhelmed by the crazy amount of garlic in it.  I seriously could not taste anything else!

And to top it all off they charged me a dollar more than the menu listed for the bruscetta.  Overall, not a great experience and I don't think I will return.

Okay I will be totally fair: THIS PLACE SUCKS! We came here hungry for lunch, and waited 30 minutes for our appetizer before we found out it hadn't even been started! We heard the cooks giggling, and got the sense they were on drugs. Then somehow our garlic bread was up in 60 seconds?? Well here is why: they threw some undercooked bread on a plate with some uneven sprinkles of garlic salt and NO BUTTER. It wasn't even toasted! It was DISGUSTING! It also took 3x for them to get our softdrink orders correct. The unclassy waitress didn't even apologize, but then desperately begged us to "give them another chance" when we got up to finally leave. I would NOT recommend this place. We went to an Italian place next to Von's that was very good with normal service and quality food.

I'm usually never in Toluca Lake, but I had to pick up a package the other day and was a little early. With time to spare, I began wandering around to find somewhere to eat. And being a pizza lover, I entered Robano's as soon as I saw it.

It was dead empty and honestly, the pizza slice that I bought was akin to crappy movie drive-in pizza. But the service was nice.

Why one star? Because after I ate I went to the bathroom. And just as I got in, the cook walked out of the toilet stall and left.... WITHOUT WASHING HIS HANDS.

It was like that moment in Seinfeld when he catches Poppy do the exact same thing before making his meal. Except I caught the guy after I ate. (-_-) Yeah...

I actually really like this place.

Good location, great food, full bar, sports TV, occasional band/performers.  The patio is awesome, they got outside couches, and all sorts of plants.  I don't think it has the Italy vibe to it, but it definitely has a good vibe.  I loove hanging out here, the problem is no one else hangs out here.  Either I go by myself to socialize and eat, which is pretty sad, OR when i DO bring my friends, we are the only people there.  Maybe I'm just hitting them at the wrong time, but I come here quite often.  The only other complaint I have is service gets a little too slow.  In napoli, from my experience, great pizza is shoved in the oven and cooked within minutes.  Here it feels like it takes 30 minutes for them to make one?  Not good if you're starving, which is the usual status for me.

ADVICE:  Come for happy hour for a sports event, and make sure to bring at least 3 of your friends in case it is empty again.
RELAX:  on the comfy couches on the left once you walk in!

I mostly like this place for it's decor... it feels like you are on a lil vaca with the nice llights and seating outside. On a warmer day this would have been much better. There was paintings all over the wall, definitely nice.

The waitress was attentive... came here for lunch the salad I had was good, but massive!, i would have preferred something smaller for less money. It had blue cheese or feta, sweet dressing, pear?... overall it was good, just a bit too sweet for me.

The water, it tasted a bit funny.

Ehh overall, the hanging out was a better experience.

However, for a fat slice of pizza it was only about $3-4 dollars, good deal.

I heard a rumor that the old Albano's on Melrose Ave was now called Robano's and located in Toluca Lake. WRONG. It's my fault for not consulting Yelp first. Albano's had the closest thing to NY style pizza in SoCal before they changed ownership.

We ordered a large pizza with half sausage and half pepperoni. The only thing NY style about it was the fact that it had a thin crust! The pizza was overly greasy and the crust tasted like cardboard. It took a full 25 minutes for us to get our order so we were starving by the time it arrived. Unfortunately, it reminded me of the pizza they served in the cafeteria of my elementary school.

The server was very friendly but she was the only server and had to be bartender too. I think my husband and I were the only ones eating, everyone else was there for drinks on the patio and to watch the football game.

It was definitely not worth the drive and definitely not worth visiting...ever.

Went there tonight on a Living Social coupon (I LOVE YOU LIVING SOCIAL!)

Anyhoo, we were greeted by an elderly gentleman (Robano perhaps?) and told us to sit anywhere...we took a table next to him....glad we did, it was entertaining to listen to a group of crabby old New Yorkers bitch and moan...and smoke.

Anyhoo, we had a very nice waitress that was prompt and did not roll her eyes about when I said we were rocking a coupon.

BF wanted to get a Sicilian style pizza but we compromised on the thin crust (Glad we did with the brick oven)

Here is where they lose a star...the man likes meat...I don't.  We ordered a pizza with meat on one side and veggies on the entire pie,,,no jalapenos, add green pepper.  Easy enough right??  I had to tell our waitress several times...might have been me that was not explaining it right (She was very sweet though)

We got a pizza with veggies on the entire pizza, sausage on half, pepperoni on all...whateves...I just picked them off and gave them to the carnivore.

We also ordered chicken wings $7.95 for 6 (again I did not partake but bf said the sauce was good)  They looked pretty wimpy to me...a little steep for the size of them

The side salad was $4.95-again on the small side for the price.  The Italian dressing was a little tart.

Overall I really liked the staff there, super attentive (bus by came by several times to take dirty plates which is awesome b/c that shit drives me bonkers)

Pizza (although they did not get it right) was tasty.

Our bill was $39.95---a little steep for a pizza dinner in my opinion but with our coupon it was $9.95.  Deal.

I probably would not come back here at full price, but that is only because I am a cheapass.

I wrote this long review while I was sitting at Robano's but it took so long to get our pizzas that my iphone software became outdated and deleted the review.

Three hours after we sat down we got our second pizza. It took so long we started making bets on when the pizza would finally come. At 10:20 I went across the street and bought a pie. I came back- still no pizza. My boyfriend was eating parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes.

    Best part of the night?
    MARIE CALLENDER'S CHOCOLATE MOUSSE PIE.

    Worst part?
    Being at Robano's.

Ah Ronnie Rome :) I love this Italian guy. I don't know if I come to see him or to eat here... probably both. He's friendly and if he's in the mood, he'd give you a couple of interesting hollywood stories and maybe even some discount if you are paying with cash.

I always order think crust pizza with tomato sauce and lots of meat. Yum. So addictive! I love what's on the top, but crust is the reason I come here for. It's a bit oily, yes. Just consider it "juicy". I've also tried pesto with chicken once, and it was also good. I was going to take home to eat it, but I finished 1/2 in the car... I was glad I had a box of baby wipe in my car that day!

I don't know what it is about Robano's pizza, but my body handles its oil very well. I've never got sick after eating pizza from here and I'm grateful for it!

OMG, where to begin.  We were meeting a large group of people and were sitting outside in the sofa pits.  Myself and two friends arrived and were seated together.

After 10 minutes of twiddling my thumbs I am able to order a lemon drop.  Due to making them on a regular basis for myself at home I know exactly what goes in them, lemon juice, simple syrup and vodka.  Very easy.  What they served me was sweet and sour with vodka and frankly tasted horrible.  Finally 20 minutes into the visit, I am able to order dinner.  After the martini I thought I would have a Tangueray and tonic, I know they can't mess that up, right?  Wrong, I know what Tangueray is like, and what was in the glass did not taste right.  Do you know what ridiculous price they charged me for those two drinks, $20!  Not only did they taste bad they were overpriced.

Dinner starts arriving, since we got there a little later than everyone else I did not expect us to be served with the rest of the group.  I was mistaken however, as one of the three of us was, the other two waited an additional 25 minutes!  Since when do you serve one person without serving the others?  I really started getting ticked.

Finally, 65 minutes into my visit my food arrives.  I had ordered Pasta Alfredo with chicken and I asked for them to put some spinach in it to make it Florentine.  Then I asked for some shredded parmesan on the side not the canned stuff they have in the table shakers.  I was told no problem.  What showed up 45 minutes later was a gooey mess (I probably could have lifted the whole mass up on a fork and snapped a picture.) with minimal chicken, no spinach and no parmesan. I asked about the missing parmesan and she said "it was cooked into it."  I love it when cooks decide to do something other than what the customer requested.  Informing her of the missing spinach, she said she could take it back and have it redone to which I said I was not willing to wait another 45 minutes.  I did however ask for the parmesan.  She must have thought people are clueless for what she brought me was in fact shredded mozzarella not parmesan.  No wonder my pasta was a sticky mess if they cooked that into it.  Gads!

Then to top it all off we had to wait another 40 minutes to get our bill.

By the way, one of the pepperoni pizzas delivered had so much grease floating on top of it that it had to be blotted with paper napkins (they were soaked) before it could be eaten.

I really enjoyed meeting our group of people there, I will make sure however to eat before I go.  I will order red wine and only if I see the bottle it is being poured out of.  Its either that or I instruct the bartender how to actually make a lemon drop.

Ok,  this review is actually more like 2.5 stars, but the food has the potential to be a 3 or 4, so I decided to be generous today.

Dropped in last night to have a few quick slices before going to a play.  I know, by just getting slices of pizza, we are taking our chances.

We walk and and are greeted by an older gentleman who tells to to sit wherever we want.

The place has a nice patio and a few tables inside.  We sat outside becaus there was a nice breeze.  The patio is a weird mix of couches, outdoor patio tables and larger tables.  It makes you feel more like you are in your relatives backyard then a restaurant.

Our waitress arrives, and we place our order,  a house salad and 2 pieces of pizza each.  I opted for a slice of cheese and a slice of eggplant. My dining companion gets 2 cheese.

The salad comes out and the waitress had the kitchen split it onto 2 plates for us so we don't have to do that ourselves.  The salad is a nice mix of butter lettuce, iceburn and a few other types, some chopped tomatoes and olives.  Today I realize I think it was supposed to have parmesan cheese, but didn't.    Not even halfway through our salad, the pizza comes out and the waitress sets them down saying, this way they have time to cool so we dont' burn ourselves.  WTF?  Ummm, 2 pieces of pizza on a cold plate does not take that long to cool.  I decide to move to the pizza before it gets cold.  I don't like room temp or cold pizza.

The cheese slice is ok, I see its potential in the thin crust and nicely flavored cheese, but this slice has clearly suffered upon reheating.   My eggplant slice on the other hand was miles better!   I was surprised that the eggplant was cut into small pieces and sprinkled on top instead of being incorporated into the pizza, but I really liked it.  The eggplant was not greasy and had good eggplant flavor.  My dining companion declared one slice of cheese was better than the other.  The whole pizzas are definitely the way to go, we so those being brought to other tables and they looked delicious.

The service however, was severely lacking.  Our waitress disappared for the entire meal after plopping down our pizza.  When she finally came back when we were done, she finally offered me a refill on my drink.  I'm done, what does it matter now (BTW,  this is a pet peeve of mine, yes I consume lots of liquid while eating, keep my glass full or at least don't let it get less than halfway) .  She mumbles something about how she's sorry and she had business to take care of.  Ummm, you got my table, I'm your business.  If you had more pressing issues than me, get someone to check on us.

We asked about dessert for future reference, she said they don't have any, yet the specials board on the way in says they have cannoli.  She then tells us about another Italian restaurant that has good cheesecake.  I can understanding recommending a bakery or something, but you are basically steering me toward the competition, which I thought as odd and unprofessional.

She brings the check, we put down a card to pay,   ages go by and she finally comes and takes it.  Our quick pizza slice dinner took over an hour.

On the way out the older gentleman asks how everything was, I told him we'd be back, I liked the eggplant alot and want to try the  eggplant rolatini.  He thanks us for coming and off we go.  Had we had longer I would have told him service wasn't good, but we needed to go or risk being late for the play.

I will go back for the food, this may be one of those places that you just know the service is going to be subpar.  I hope not, I hope I can report next time that service was better.

I didn't see anyone really overseeing the operation, they would benefit from having a manager to check on things during the meal and oversee the restaurant.  The restrooms also needed some attending to.

You can see pictures of my pizza slices under the pictures.

This is my first review for this website. I felt compelled to write it because I feel sick.  Sick to my stomach.

    Why?

    Robanos.  2 slices of cheese.

They were soggy and the dough was barely cooked.  They were overly greasy and lukewarm.  I didnt even finish them, they were so disgusting.

    Fowl.
    Gnarly.
    Gross.
    Unappealing.

Its a shame because their old place in Hollywood, Albanos, was good.

    What the hell happened?

The furniture is dirty-- the place is filled with nasty old couches.

The server took 10 minutes to notice me.  Once she did she was promt and very nice.  She told me there was "a lot of confusion in the back."
Confused about what?  About how to respect the tradition of pizza?  It's sad, really.

I have been to this place about three times now and it has gotten worse each time.
    3 stars....2 stars...One.

I've been twice in the last week alone. Both times I ordered the special spinach pizza by the slice. I don't even like ricotta cheese (or so I thought) but I love this pizza and it's covered in ricotta. The generously sized slice is cooked in the wood-fired oven and you can taste it in the crust, in the cheese and in the sauce. The pizza is infused with flavor from the oven and it's oh so good!

Now you would think that putting that much spinach on a slice would make it all wet and drippy with spinach water, but that is not the case at all. I folded the slice in half and took a bite and nothing dripped out.

The first time I went I also tried the eggplant rolitini.  You get two eggplant rolls stuffed with more of that amazing Polly-O ricotta and mozzarella cheese baked with marinara sauce. The portion is just right for two to share without feeling like a total pig.

On the second visit we had the same waitress and she recognized us from the first trip - I guess we are officially regulars.

The outdoor patio is huge with lots of seating and heat lamps for the cool evenings.

I saw lots of salads coming out of the kitchen and they looked amazing, I also remember the bruschetta pie called "The Sonny D" from the old Melrose location, I must try that again soon! The eggplant rolitini was so good I'm also looking forward to trying the eggplant parmesan.

There is limited parking in the back, be sure to check the signs, otherwise there is plenty of street parking especially around dinnertime.

Go now before they get too crazy busy and there is a line around the block, you won't be disappointed!

This place used to be 5 stars when it was in Studio City... When it re-opened we were all so pumped.. and I gotta admit the 1st time back was great, but since then, its been getting worse. Last week we went and it was the worst ever... Its almost like they forgot how to make pizza. The crust was like a saltine cracker (and I like thin crust), the waitress clearly forgot to place out order (ever hear of a 35 minute pizza in an empty place?), and brought the wrong drinks... even the salad was tired and brown on the edges. I hate to say it but STAY AWAY... not what it used to be....

If you are willing to drive hit up Mulberry or my new fav Il Capriccio on Hollywood Blvd. in Los Feliz - get the sausage.

I organize a couple of monthly social gathering thru http://meetup.com. After our regular venue went out of business we where searching for a new venue, and after trying 3 or 4 new places we settled on Rabano's as our new home.

Robano's is a very good venue for informal social gatherings.

The patio area is comfortable - even on some of the recent near freezing nights, we've been able to sit on the patio in comfort. The two sofa areas on the patio are prefect for groups of 5 to 10 people. The U-shaped layout makes it easier for people in large groups to socialize -without being being isolated at ends of long tables.

The staff is friendly and doesn't object to doing split checks when we have 10-15 people attending.

They have a full bar and a good selection of beers on tap.

And they is PLENTY of parking. Plenty of FREE parking.

The menu is kind of limited. I wish they had more appetizer that where suitable for large groups (big plate of fries, chips and salsa, etc... yeah I know that is not Italian).

Edit: I have noticed some problems with the service - but I have to chalk that up to economic issues - Great service staff depend on tips - restaurant biz is down everywhere, and most places can't support a full level of staffing or can't keep great staff if there are no customers.

    Edit # July 2010
I see a lot of reviews about the quality of the pizza. I really recommend trying the Calzone instead of the pizza. One Calzone will feed 2-3 people, and they taste great.

Also they are offering a significant discount right now (10% if you pay with cash).

Oh, is he ever back! Long time fans of what we had deemed "The Best Pizza in L.A.," my husband and I were so sad when Albano's on Melrose closed down without notice last winter. Even after the short-lived Valley location of Albano's closed, we'd trek over to Melrose and then circle for parking because it was THAT good.

A little over a week ago when debating which not-so-great pizza place to order from, we did one more search on what was up with Albano's and stumbled across info that Anthony Albano had reopened as Robano's in Toluca Lake. We dropped everything and hopped in the car to drive to the restaurant located only 1 mile from our house.

Now, I can say with confidence that the "Best Pizza in L.A." is at Robano's in Toluca Lake. We've been there three times since we learned they were open, including tonight for the first night of their Grand Opening. We've spoken with Anthony, who was delighted to have loyal Albano's customers find him. We've also seen him working hard in the kitchen, making that secret sauce that makes his pizza stand out above all others.

I can not review anything besides the pizza, but there are appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and pasta dishes also. Anthony admitted to being wary of the built-in wood burning pizza ovens in the new location, but I'd say the cooks have gotten the hang of it and are making delicious pies!

So, if you are a transplant from the Northeast and are looking for great Brooklyn style pizza that you can fold, I definitely recommend Robano's. And, if you are someone from anywhere else who wants great pizza, friendly service, and a nice relaxed atmosphere, I definitely recommend Robano's.

Service was good, but the food left much to be desired.  I should have known better since we were the only diners there on a late Saturday afternoon.  We started with the antipasta salad and it was, to be honest, the worst antipasta salad I ever had.  We also tried the garlic bread based on another reviewers recommendation.  The garlic bread also sucked and I rarely pass up garlic bread.  The pizza we ordered, a large pepperoni & mushroom, was also bad.  They really skimp on the toppings.  I've had better frozen pizza.  The only reason I am giving Robano's 2 stars is because the service was very good and fast.
I absolutely love Italian food, but I will not be returning again to Robano's.

Oh my gosh what happened to this place?! What happened to the lasagna slice that I loved so much?! What happened to the huge slices of authentic NY style pizza that I loved?! Gone, all of it gone! Did the ownership change? I don't know. The pizza is okay but I don't care about okay thin crust pizza, I want the huge gigantic slices that you have to fold and that make me feel like I'm back in NYC.

I went to Robanos last night with my Mah Jongg group.  Since it had been such a nice day, we sat out on the patio -- which is lovely and definitely this restaurant's greatest asset.  They have several TVs out there and the Laker game was on.  Two of the ladies I was with are regulars and know the owner, Ronnie, by name.  The food is just okay (my boyfriend refuses to ever go back after trying their pizza) and the service is lackluster.

Anyway, a guy showed up after we'd been there awhile and lit up a cigar.  Ugh.  I'm definitely one of those people thrilled with the new law that prohibits smoking on outdoor dining areas.  I pointed the man out to a waitress who agreed that the cigar smelled awful but said I'd have to talk to Ronnie because he lets people smoke on the patio.  I tried to be patient and waited until the Laker game ended and the man eventually stopped smoking to eat dinner.  But as soon as he was done, he lit the cigar up again.

I asked to speak to Ronnie.  And boy did his attitude suck.  He rolled his eyes and said that the guy was a regular -- there every night.  What did I want him to do, ask the guy to leave?  I said no, just ask him to put the cigar out, smoking on patio is illegal.  Ronnie told me that it wasn't as long as the smokers are 20 feet from restaurant doors (not true).  He said he would just move the guy and walked away grumbling about trying to make a living -- which really pissed me off.  Clearly my business (we were a party of five) wasn't valuable.

The guy did move but we still smelled smoke for the remainder of the evening.  Needless to say, I will never go back.

3 stars if restrooms were clean.

Went there Saturday evening with a family, plenty of seating outdoor. Outdoor seating is nice, plenty of heat lamps and water fountain. Smoking allowed on patio.  A DJ starting playing old school music. Kid and pet friendly.
Service was good pizza was good. We ordered the Lopez which was good, and the BBQ Chicken Pizza, a little to much BBQ sauce as base . The crust is thin NY style.
B rated health inspection sign in window, men's rooms was dirty,  no paper towels and low on dial soap.
we walked to the joint , nice neighborhood. Over all OK. decent 'hood joint.

    Ron is the man!

If you are looking for good NY style pizza and you want to have access to a full bar, then this is your place!  The service is great!  They pizza is made in a wood fired oven and comes out great.  Thin crust with the perfect about of cheese and sauce.  We always order a large cheese pie and it never has oil dripping all over the place!

I love sitting outside and enjoying good food and good company.  There is plenty of seating inside and out so you'll never have to wait for a table.

I love the fact that there's tons of parking in the back so I never have to worry about getting a spot.

Thanks Ron, you make us feel like family every time we come in!

Oh Albano's how I've missed you. I've totally given up on Il Capricio and even Mozza let me down this last time. I was so happy when my wife found Robano's online. The Pizza is the same, if not a little better. Oh and the service is so good... it's hard to believe it's related to Albano's. The location has parking, lots of seating, and is just better in every way. Well it's in the Valley, which I generally try to avoid, but... Oh well I'm rambling. The point is that that you will find no better pizza in LA.

Have always liked the set-up of the patio for sports/event viewing since it was Sebastian's (ugh) and it stayed pretty much the same, but the service has carried over from the former and the pizza and wings did not live up to the hype from coworkers and locals that swore it was bombay.   And, the ace chef is bailing anyway as I throw this up so that spot is still plagued with malcontents.

Pizza was mediocre at best and I've had way better.  D'Amores and Joe Peeps still top.  The wings were straight out of the freezer to being nuked in the microwave for rubbery goodness.  That, and there were only 6 for a little over 6 bucks.  Stick to Hoagies and Wings people.

Aside of a brew for a game, I don't plan on returning for the service or the food.

No reson to return. Two beers a glass of wine and a medium pizza plus a salad equals over $50.00 with a tip.
The real problem is the pizza. If your going to toute a New York style pizza then make one! I don't get it.
Also we asked for anchoives as it was a choice on the menu.About 15 minutes went by and the waitress returns and says "no anchoives, were out".A comp alturnite choice would have gotten an additional star but "NO" nothing, only a dull stare was given.

The service was alright. I knew the girl who was the waitress but when we first got there we did not really know where to go to be seated.  The owner was there and was talking us into staying cause we were not in the mood for pizza. We sat outside, tables were dirty. Ended up getting chicken marsala and it was yummy with mushrooms. The chicken was kind of over cooked it was turning to mush. Other then that it tasted great and it is in walking distance from my place.

This place has quickly become a favorite of mine. Thier pizza is awesome, thier outdoor patio is awesome, thier Damaged TV is awesome. I have tried a few pasta dishes and it was pretty good.  The service really sucks now. I am sure it will be better in the future. The owners are always walking around and helping and they seem very sincere but  It seems like the rest of the staff just does not care, or get it yet. Once that issue is corrected I am sure there will be a lot of 5 stars for this place.

Mmm, Robano's.  Pretty good.  It was the wood-burning part I think that made it so good.  Pplus, the staff was friendly.  This place used to be a horrible place that was featured on Hell's Kitchen.  Now that this new place is in, the place is hopping, and the pizza is good.  Yay!

Great setting.. decent food... friendly owners... but INCREDIBLY SLOW service. Ordered two pizzas with a group of 10 people. First of all, the waitress never came to take our order. A member of our party had to go inside and give the order to the owner personally. It took about an hour for the first pizza to come out and about 45 minutes for the second pizza. I had been here before but was never really bothered by the slow service. I will never go again after this last experience.

Great pizza in the Burbank Area.  The owner is awesome.  A really nice, friendly Italian fellow.  Pasta dishes are just average.. the pizza really rocks.

Been there a bunch of times because I work in the area and the main issue is that the service is usually very slow.  Makes it hard to go there during lunch when you need to be in and out.
